2014 - Best and Biggest LEGO Year Ever?
Ojik replied to TheBrickPal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
To me, every new year seems better than the previous one, thus looks like the best one ever. It's logical - the times are changing and while kids in 1980s had to play with only a few themes and sets, today, we have hundreds of sets to choose from, lots of them based on many different popular licenses, ranging from films and TV shows to comics. This year is a little bit exceptional with The LEGO Movie, but the principle is still the same - new cool sets, minifigures, themes and so on in large quantities, customers are satisified. But there are a few points I don't like about this, and since most of them have already been stated, I'm just gonna react on it. As I nowadays collect mostly licensed themes (which is not okay, more on this later), I agree with first two points. Too many themes, too much money. I must make hard decisions, since there are too many sets, and with additional costs here in Europe, I would be broke really soon if I bought everything I like. And what's worse, I like a lot, if not most, of the licensed sets only because of the minifigures. The builds itself are often very mediocre and the sets are centered around the characters, with weird structures bashed together around these figures. I can second all of this. I too don't care about these "mythological sci-fi" themes, but you must admit they are LEGO's own IP and although I find these themed very wild, with lots of crazy characters, vehicles, buildings and stories, all seemingly taken from many different eras and themes and leave a little to imagine, they are something original. Albeit being a fan of quite a few licenses, I must say it's not okay to base so many sets on them. We had The Lone Ranger theme which offered some nice new elements that would look great if reused in a new Western theme. Too bad, TLG doesn't seem to be doing one, even the new moulds (guns, hats) are about to fall in oblivion. Same with the animals you mention. The one-and-gone themes are also another convenient thing in this problem - themes like Ninjago continue and get more and more weird each year, but these little funny lines such as Monster Fighters die after one year. And licensed sets take their place, only to offer bland overpriced sets with good-looking figures, much to annoyance of many fans. As you say at the end, it's not much about imagination anymore. LEGO should slow down and make more basic sets. I think the increase of price is because of the license, not the moulds. Each CMF line has about 16 new moulds, usually one new per a minifigure, this time, they are only a part of the minifigure itself. Other than that, you are right about the diversity and lack of imagination, I feel the same. Long story short, the biggest doesn't mean the best. There are many cool things, but there's still much to be improved. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Ojik replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yes, you may hear it, but it's not too practical to stop vacuuming immediately and open up a bag full of dust in the room you are just cleaning. It's not a problem anymore though. This happened back in times I put Lego all over the floor and played with it. This way I often overlooked a part while cleaning the mess and it was later vacuumed. Nowadays, I handle Lego only when building a new set, so this can't happen. Thinking about it, it's rather sad actually. I'm starting to look like The Man Upstairs, I only build sets and then display them. Maybe I should play with them sometimes, or even better, start MOCing.- 2,626 replies

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Ojik replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
And that's why I love my dad so much. Every time he collects my garbage off of my can, he sorts it all, so if something like this happened, he would find out and tell me. And when the dust bag in the hoover gets full, he opens it and goes patiently through all the dust and rubbish to see is there's something that's not supposed to be there. He's been doing this since my childhood only because of my Lego hobby and didn't even stop while I was in my dark ages. He has saved a lot of parts I would otherwise lose. By the way. I have finally seen the film today and loved it. What sets did you get yourself? I was keeping my judgment after I see it and I don't know now. All the scenes were great, but I can't say the same about the sets. If I liked them that much, I would buy them without waiting to see the film. I have always wanted Cloud Cuckoo Land for Unikitty, but I can't decide about any more sets.- 2,626 replies

I'm not sure. I mean, when I first heard about upcoming GOTG sets, which was before playing the videogame, I thought he should be a new single-part mould, something like Salacious B. Crumb. Then I saw the game version and quite liked it. I understand it's improtant he has regular hands so he can grab and hold things, but with short legs he looks too human. And he's also too tall. So it would be perfect to have a compromise in the form of an anthropomorphous creature similar to Gollum. Yes, I know and I'm fine with it, my point is that while attached to a regular minifig, albeit with short legs, it doesn't look like Rocket Raccoon, but like a child disguised as Rocket Raccoon.

God, Groot looks really bad. Why isn't he all brown? This is it! They should have made him this way. Big-fig would be too bulky and a regular minifig with longer legs and arms with a new headpiece looks like a perfect solution. Also, Rocket could have been new mould, something like Gollum - the articulation of the limbs would be kept and he could hold a weapon in his hands, and yet he wouldn't look like a child with a raccoon mask,

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary CUUSOO set Discussion
Ojik replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm really shocked to see pictures so soon after the announcement. It looks like the whole Cuusoo concept is getting faster. Let's hope this is not an exception and the review stage and the developing process are really getting shorter. One day, we might be getting pictures and all the set information at once together with the announcement. -
Glad to finally see some pictures, but I must say I'm not completely sold on these GOTG sets. Groot is too big and I hate to see at least three colours on him - beside the regular brown, he's got what appears to be black arms and light bley joints. He looks like mecha Ent. X-jet is not bad, I'm surprised it's blue and not black and I quite like the Sentinel. Does anyone know what the price is? It better not be 50 dollars for 336 parts and 4 minifigs!

Yes, finally a photo of the CMF series! Regular Homer looks great, I'm surprised they haven't made a new mould for the donut, but it looks great nonetheless, this still-new-for-me round tile has got some really big potential, and it's showing more and more! Nice to have a remote control as the other accessory, I though they may include one. And you know what makes me really happy? That belly curve line, making him his infamous fat body feature. That was something the House version really lacked, regardless the great detailed printing of the tie and ID badge. Now bring more!

Got mine yesterday in the morning, what a nice surprise and way to start a new day! I heard a postbox rattling, so I ran downstairs expecting a "You can claim your package at local post office" sheet from a postwoman too lazy to ring the bell, and found a lovely and funny hen-themed box instead. You have some really nice post package boxes in Sweden. I assembled the figures today and although I don't know who they are, I really like them, especially that cute blue alien. Thank you CopMike and everyone involved in this raffle for the prize and the whole competion. It was fun to participate and it's nice to have a last Christmas present a month later.

I know, of course. That's why I'm so excited. To me, it sounds more like beginning of February, not beginning in February.

This was posted a few minutes ago on The Simpsons Facebook page: Does it mean the CMF line might after all come next month along with the house?

Collectable Minifigures Series 13 - The Simpsons: Guessing Game
Ojik replied to Ojik's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I've been waiting long enough and you didn't start the topic, so I finally did it myself, it was about time. It's not stealing, much more like keeping the tradition alive. I was so tempted to write this too, but it is unlikely. Not that iconic as Santa's Little Helper, which I hope will appear. On the other hand, there's not much to give him - some food or drink (hence why I wrote Squishee) or a comic. Oh no, I was really looking forward for a proper slingshot. Another bizzare ban. If that's true, skateboard sounds more likely now. The House is an expensive set and many people will want Bart's skate without spending that much.- 34 replies

Hello everyone! It looks to me there's not enough buzz about this upcoming series of CMF. We barely have any information and it was officially confirmed only a few days ago. And yet it looks like an extraordinary series - it's gonna be the first licensed CMF line ever, based on a widely-popular cartoon, and after 11 regular series (TLM series is an exception to me, something like Team GB series) we were used to looks very unsual and promising, regarding the future of this theme. However, there's not much going on in the discussion thread, and even the guessing game is missing. I'm really excited about this series, soooo... Let's fix it and try to foresee what minifigs will appear in this line! Attention - this is not a "Minifigures you would like to see" kind of thread. Be rational, thus no obscure guesses. Intent to think like a LEGO designer and try to write down all sixteen. Have fun! I'll start: 1) Homer - regular appearance, including a normal facial expression. Donut and a mug. 2) Marge - same as above. Some kitchen instrument as an accessory, such as frying pan. 3) Bart - same as above. Slingshot and Santa's Little Helper! 4) Lisa - same as above. Saxophone and Snowball II! 5) Maggie - same as above. Teddy bear. 6) Ned Flanders - same as above. Some gardening instrument as an accesory, maybe a watering can. 7) Grampa - fake teeth! Really, I can't think about any other accessories and this would be hilarious. 8) Milhouse - Squishee - could be a reprinted coffee mug. 9) Apu - dollar bill and a sausage. 10) Mr Burns - plutonium rod. 11) Principal Skinner - tile with printed exam. 12) Moe - regular appearance with apron. Grumpy face. Mug. 13) Itchy - axe and club. 14) Scratchy - sword and dynamite. 15) Chief Wiggum - must be fat. Else a head/belly combo (see Bombur) or a belly piece alone. New coffee mug and a baton. 16) Comic Book Guy - same solution as Wiggum. Two comics (printed tiles).

Oh, haven't realized that! I hope you are right, I want proper ABS figs. The crappy material totally ruins the experience of CMFs, which is in other way good. I can't understand why they make all these great new accesories and whole figures from crappy plastic.

What a surprise, this official unveiling! It truly looks much better now and it's growing on me. Still, the price is too steep. Will have a hard thinking about this one. Now bring us CMF series!
-
I was excited to see this news. However, I'm a tad disappointed. It doesn't look quite right to me, the color is off and even the minifigs doesn't look that good in that picture. The interiors looks promising, though, but somehow small and not exactly like in the show. I'll wait for better pictures (someone said the official unveiling will be at January 11, right?) and hold my judgement till then. But since I'm not amazed from the very first moment which I really didn't expect and the prize will be surely high, I guess I will stick to the CMF. Also, looks like you won our little bet, just2good. I must admit I'm shocked to see them making Maggie really minifigure-sized. And disappointed as well. It looks off-size to me. Also, why didn't you tell us you bought her? Better show us some pictures!

LEGO Minifigures series 12 will not be available until Oct 2014
Ojik replied to JeagerEX's topic in Special LEGO Themes
How do you know? Yes, I'm sure it will be more expensive due the license, but it seems you have read something I haven't. -
The first two - especially the second one - are great! As always, Oky.

Electro looks even better in HD, trike even worse. Judging on the piece count we finally know it may be really 10$ price range. Which would be good. Truck is truly great but I'm still not convinced by the minifigs. Spider-Copter doesn't look that bad after all and with 299 piece count the price may be 30$ (or 35$, it's still a licensed set), however I'm afarid 40$ is more likely. Still plausible, I was expecting 50$. Hydra tank is really awful but I love the figs. AIM lab looks significantly much better and so do the figs. If I can get this one for fair price, I won't regret buying it. Speaking of the price, it's the same situation as with the Spider-Copter. With a pinch of luck it could be 40$ but LEGO seems to be charging extra 10 bucks for big figs. The picture is shrunken, it's the same size as other 20$ sets. In fact, it's a typical Super Heroes 20$ set: 3 figs, a vehicle and a bit of accessory.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
Ojik replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
For everyone still mourning over not being able to get Iron Patriot, I have a heads up for you, folks. The day before yesterday I bought a PC version of the game with Iron Patriot included. It was in Tesco and they even had it in sale - I paid 599 CZK (that's about 30$) instead of regular 799 CZK. I must admit I was super happy and thrilled and can't wait to finally get a new laptop to play the game. Christmas came early. -
Yay, I really won! Not much a fan of Star Wars, so if someone would fancy a trade, shoot me a PM, but still, that feeling of being a winner is priceless. And hey, it's free Lego! Thank you so much CopMike for organising this raffle! It was fun to participate.

A few thoughts: 76014 - Im' surprised to see they changed their minds and instead of the classic Electro made this Ultimate version. Which is good, because I'm really digging this figure. But Jesus, that Spider-Trike is awful. I hope the price will be 10$ so it will affordable here. 76015 - What happened to the Spidey variant from preliminary picture?! I was hoping for a blend of ASM2 and Superior Spider-man costumes. Too bad. Which means we will never see SDCC Spidey again. So, that's Spider-man. What's next? Aha, a random driver. Another wasted slot. It's great to see Doc Ock from the game, but he alone is not enough. And I already have the old version. I must admit the truck is superb, however. Unfortunately, a car and one fig isn't enough for me to buy it. 76016 - The real helicopter looks much better than in the prelim picture and the fig selection is good, yet with the price tag of 50$ (thus about 70$ here), it's a pass for me. 76017 - I can't believe we won't have any CA:TWS sets because of this. The tank is absolutely ugly. I'm still gonna buy it though, because the figs are fine. I don't have Cap yet, missed the Avengers one because of the steep price, and although this one is different, I like him. Red Skull and Hydra goon are win, too. 76018 - The most controversial set from this wave for me. Main reason to buy it is naturally Hulk. The set 6868 was really expensive and contained absolutely nothing, just a few lab section bashed together, plus three totally common figs. This is basically the same - another lab, same size, presumably same price, too. Only much better figs. And I need Hulk finally. Not a fan of comic (AA) Falcon and Thor, but I guess I'll buy it. Quite a mediocre line. And to everyone who keeps talking about switched set names: look at the text under Captain America in the bottom figure line.

So, these three new figs have designs from AA, correct? I like them, and if so, then they are quite close to their movie versions from the first Captain America movie.
