Tiger Widow - Show version
DraikNova replied to DraikNova's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's 483 pieces, a lot of which is just the little horn-spikes and 1x1 round tiles with holes in them. I'm surprised you like the eyes; that's the part of which that I find the least pleasing. Not sure how a googly-eyed spider with a dopey mouth isn't cute, though.- 3 replies

I wouldn't bother with the bat mobile. There are so many other, better sets out there. And even if you don't like any of them at the moment, new ones will be along in about six months, some of which are bound to catch your eye. Any other themes that you're interested in at the moment?

Yeah, the new batmobile is far smaller and less impressive. Jay's dragon has great parts, a beautiful and creative build and actually has a presence. For reference, the batmobile has 306 parts, most of which are rather small, while the dragon has 350 parts, most of which are at least double the size. Personally, I'd say the new $30 batmobile is one of the worst batmobile versions LEGO has made, looking more like a beefed-up polybag than anything else, yet Jay's Dragon is one of the best dragons Ninjago has featured.

A show-accurate version of Ninjago's Tiger Widow. I felt the set version was very underwhelming, so I decided to give this cute creature an upgrade. Why they call a six-legged animal a spider is beyond me, but luckily nature has something that fits: ant mimic spiders. The sideways fangs would then be modified versions of faux antennae, which are in turn modified legs. It even explains why it almost, but not really, has three body segments rather than two. Front view: Side view: As far as I know, all the parts are easily available via Bricklink. The spider's legs can move sideways and up and down at the base and up and down at the knees and claw tips. The head, pincers and mouth can also move, for a total of 29 points of articulation. Gallery (will add more pictures soon) .lxf file

Yeah, that's always the case. Really too bad they didn't bother to give it more detail. One of those 3x6 half-hexagon plates would have matched the cartoon's head perfectly. And then they could use studs to give it the cute eyes it had in the show while remaining in-scale. I'm thinking of making a MOC of it, to be honest.

Lego Nexo Knights TV Series Discussion

It's not a plot hole. Aaron was the only one to avoid actually getting hit by the whip, as he caught it. -

Lego Nexo Knights TV Series Discussion
DraikNova replied to DuckBricks's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Interesting that Whiparella, based on the sound she makes when she moves, is not only snake-like, but somewhat slug-like as well. Kinda dissapointed she didn't think of using fear of boredom against Aaron. Helplessness and inability to do anything kind of hurts if you're an adrenaline junkie. And it's pretty obvious. She claims to be able to make nightmares true, yet she doesn't think to use something that is the core of most nightmares? -
Tips For Getting Back Into Ninjago
DraikNova replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
If you can still get them, I'd suggest either going for Possession sets or waiting for the next wave. The summer wave is always better. The only set I'd suggest getting from the Skybound wave is Jay's dragon. -
Lego Nexo Knights TV Series Discussion
DraikNova replied to DuckBricks's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
We'll probably see all 20 before the summer wave is even released, albeit with a several month break between the first ten or so and the last ten. And I'm pretty sure the other monsters will show up once the BoM consumes enough books.I just got the chance to see the episodes, and so far, I'm loving them. Apparently Klaatu Barada Nikto is a meme even in the Nexo Knights world. I'm really glad that Jestro and the BoM actually get a chance to destroy a few places without being stopped by the protagonists, unlike in NInjago. It makes villains a lot more impressive if, you know, they can actually do something. And our secondary characters get characterization too! Plus, the Techcalibur isn't just a random named sword, but has actual significance. Little details, like the mosaic actually being made of LEGO, are just everywhere. At this point, I think I like it more than Ninjago. And it'll probably improve even more when the other evil minions, like Lavaria, show up. -
Yup. HF was a million times better . Seriously though, the worst HF did was Scarox. The worst Bionicle has done is Skull Scorpio and the Uniter chestpiece. I think my point is clear.

Just noticed that Umarak's MoC upper jaw piece is assymetrical. Maybe it gets his symbol embossed on it? Plus, I think Umarak uses a tr. neon green version of the longest kind of bone. Hoping his XL torso also ends up as a recolor. I love that piece.

I kind of hope that Umarak isn't mindless or possessed in his Destroyer form. The contrast between his hulking brute look and a fairly normal (or, for maximum comedy points, pretentious and stuck-up) personality would be a good source of humor.
-
Eegh, now that you mention it, I can see exactly what parts are involved there and the result is pretty much an even worse version of what's going on with Kopaka's shoulders.

Loving Umarak the Destroyer and Quake beast, but good god do I hope they change a lot of things with the others. Ekimu's mask would be nice to have in tr. blue but will probably be changed. The use of the same head mold across the beasts is nice. I like generic, easy to MOC with heads, and these seem almost as good as the IfB ones. Also, Storm Beast of all things should be capable of flying. Lava Beast's helicopter-claws are atrocious. I have to agree with Bigger Fish, though. A lot of these look to be in the same prototype stage and of the same quality as the prelim Dragon Bolt we saw, and that turned out to be one of the best sets. Really hoping that what look like mace halves are new shell pieces. Annoyed that we didn't get mixes of toa colorschemes for the beasts. And I wish Umarak had stuck with his tr. bright green (or apple green or whatever it's called), rather than defaulting to gold or tr. neon green. Nice huge version of the Mask of Control, and I can kind of forgive them for making the normal version look like an elephant if it was to enable that. Also, if that's supposed to be a mask on that stand next to Umarak, I'm going to officially dub it the Mask of Spiny Caterpillars. What's with LEGO's obsession with making everything stand on two legs? Quadrupeds are so much more interesting than the same humanoid build over and over. Hell, why can't we have a snake. No legs to stand on there! I also find the new Beast masks to be far more like actual animals than the ones the creatures have, but that comes at the price of looking really adorable. Or is that just me? And why does Ekimu need to get bigger than the Toa if he's capable of defeating Skull Grinder on his own without the MoCr? He knows there's going to be trouble, and he has the space between two plotlines to build something, and the best he can do is get stilts and armor? I'd also like to note that the Beasts' lower jaws look very similar to those of the IfB beasts, to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if they reused the part. I'd love to have more IfB compatible heads to work with, and silver or gunmetal would be a reasonable alternative to the more natural-looking bley. EDIT: Now that I think of it, I'm going to have to mod at least one of them into something Bohrok-esque. Probably Storm Beast, since the closest thing to a Bohrok that exists in real life is a kind of wasp, which would solve my issues with its flightlessness.

Probably just a show-to-set discrepancy of scale. Also, I'd like to note that the Tiger Widow's fangs look a lot less like spider fangs and more like those found on ants. But I should probably stop concocting weird fan theories here.
-
That's why I said it. Actually, the set description calls it a spider.

Maybe a brick-built projectile? Or it could still fire a technic projectile as the main arrow, but also fire an array of spring-loaded missiles from the wings.
-
More general than just applying to Ninjago, but I just came up with an excuse for all the six-legged spiders in LEGO sets: they're all ant mimic spiders.
-
I have to agree with you. It's kind of strange to say (what's not pure about fire? It's defined as an oxidation reaction. How exactly do you have impurities there?), and brings to mind yellow snow. I don't think spoiler tags are necessary with speculation. Anyway, I like that idea. It's a nice way to subvert the "absorbs too much power and explodes" trope.
-
Going to be honest with you; I prefer the Ordeal of Fire add-ons, and the blade seems like an over-the-top version of Furno's original weapons, etched with random lines of acid.

[MOC] Aquasharks "Spurdog" Fast Attack Submarine
DraikNova replied to Pimbo's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The color scheme of the Stingrays seems quite simple to me: grey, tr. neon green and black, with red accents. Maybe you could make a version of the Stingray Stormer that actually looks like a stingray? Which is to say, flatter with a longer thinner tail. -
The new Mixies have some great parts and a large amount of parts from the look of it, but really, my advice is to buy whatever color you use or like the most. Whichever you get will have great parts and be fun to mess around with

Yeah, it really annoys me too. Also the constant theme of the bad guy's reason for opposing the ninja being so wishy-washy that any villain that shows up has a 50% chance of turning good by the end of their plot arc. Really, if they have to apply those to any character, why not give the Great Devourer another go? It'd make a perfect way to dispose of dangerous artifacts and powerful enemies.
