Dawn of Ages: Chapter 1 Pt.3-Petrean Market
Kai NRG replied to PenPlays's topic in Guilds of Historica
I wonder why Owlan is visiting me... Nice build, the two stalls look neat and the fig posing is great! It's nice how much of a story you tell through the different scenes! -
Thanks MK! Thanks, yeah, it's quite interesting how the building-to-minifig scale can be all wrong but still look fine! Thanks again!

And day three is here already! -
On the third day of the tour, we'll be taking you to the snowy solitude of the Lone Mountain - just to discover it's not so lonely after all! So please, buckle your seat-belts, set your trays in full upright and locked position, and get those ear muffs and mittens ready! Are you tired of the breezy winds of the Withered Wood and the tropical heat of the Jungles of Gorr? Then take a break at the Lone Mountain, where even the coldest snow lovers will feel at home again! Enjoy the bright and varied birds that make the mountain's echos ring again with their warbling songs! The Red Bellied Strutter, so named because of... well, it's red belly and a tendency to strut: The Black Billed Warbler, a blue and dark blue bird that is a native only of Kaliphlin: The Plimigen, one of the most common birds in all snowy areas, and found in flocks in the Lone Mountain and its environs: And that ends our tour for today! Stay tuned for tomorrow's visit to another landmark of Kaliphlin! If you've missed them, be sure to check out: Kayne's Inside Kaliphlin: Day 1 The Withered Woods Masa of Kaliphlin's Inside Kaliphin: Day 2 Jungles of Gorr And don't be late for the bus again! C&C are welcome! I hope one and all have been enjoying their trip through Kaliphlin so far!

Congrats, that's amazing! I'd sell it, though I might use it in the mean time. Like str0ngbad said, there's just too many fun things to do with $500... though Bricklink would probably be a better place to sell than ebay. -
Awesome job, fantastic vegetation and flowers! Looks like we've got someone...

Just so the spies don't notice... Really though, I've replaced the photo, but it doesn't seem to replace it on the forum as well. -

Yikes! That wall is huge... do we really have to go that high (there's no way I could!)? Wasn't this supposed to be a low spot in the Escarpment?! As far as a map/pattern since we're Kaliphlin I like the suggestion of leaving it pretty open at least until we've got a few builds. -
You're welcome to borrow! (Just give it back with interest... ) Thanks! Yes, you're right, it has very little room to drive. I actually came within about four studs of making the entire thing too small (again), but was able to add on to the road. The only problem is that if I had made it any longer I wouldn't have had enough rock! (At least no more small pieces, though I did have a good bit of the bigger bricks left over.)

Thanks!

Great build! In particular the Kaliphlin shield area looks great, and the idea of a board game is excellent *cough, cough*. I also love that chair design. I hope you don't mind if I steal borrow? Actually, it's just because of the game mechanics, which make it absolutely (and I'm not exaggerating) impossible for the red to win if black has the smallest idea of what they're doing, at least in the smaller version! So of course DM got stuck with the totally impossible red side...

1. To a certain extent it depends on what guild you join. Kaliphlin is probably the most diverse, you can get away with quite a few types of structures there. Both Avalonia and Mitgardia are more traditional castle, so light bley is really important there (of course it doesn't hurt to have light bley in Kaliphlin either!). Nocturnus seems to admit the most variety in color and shape... if you wan't to build purple and red spiraling towers go for it! In general though, light bley bricks and specialized elements (eg. slopes, jumpers, 1x1 round plates, and headlight bricks), brown plates, tiles and specialized elements (logs and 1x1 round bricks are quite useful), tan and dark tan plates (and I find that tan 1x1 round plates, green (foliage, plates, and a few bricks), dark grey (mostly slopes, but also a few bricks and specialized elements), and a fair amount of blue (plates and bricks both) will be your best friends. Depending on how much and what kind of water you use, trans clear, trans light blue, and trans blue 1x1 round plates and cheese slopes can be useful (red can also come in handy). In fact in general cheese slopes are very useful. White bricks, plates, and slopes are also good for snow especially in Mitgardia and the Kaliphlin mountains. That's about all I can come up with off the top of my head. As far as where and how to get them... I would suggest you start pretty small and MOC a bit, you'll soon get the idea of what kind of bricks you're missing most. Then Bricklink is probably your best bet, but several LEGO sets are quite nice as "parts packs" and you get the figures there too! (I can't really answer your second question - I've never manged to get enough foliage myself!) 3. I'm not quite familiar with the picture quality from a phone, but I personally use a Sony T90 that cost me about $300. Nothing fancy but if you photograph in good resolution and use good even lighting it works quite well! Plus I generally touch-up a bit on the computer. 4. I'm not sure it's necessary to sell your SW just so you can get castle, as LEGO pieces are can adapt into different themes quite well. Of course, the kind of bricks that could build a SW space ship aren't necessarily going to make the best castles, but there's a lot of other Medieval type structures and landscaping as well that those sort of pieces might be good for. And if you ever wanted to build Sci-Fi, you might regret selling the SW. Of course not necessarily. I've never got any SW so I certainly don't speak from experience!

Gideon, yes stone rather than wood makes sense. I like that better than just an "normal" city idea as a city would be a bit too close of a copy of the other guilds, and I would rather not see that happen. Plus it would mean a more set pattern, whereas Kaliphlin has always been (to me) the guild where you can do what you want (more or less), and it would be nice to conserve that even in a community build. -

I like the name Fort Dextrus but the idea of a fort might be too modern? Knight's Climb is also a great one. Like Nightstalker suggested, something on the order of Mitgardia's Walls of Valholl and Avalonia's Albion Plots might be nice. Perhaps something of a large (mostly wood) fort like structure, somewhat ramshackle but still a good defense. I'm thinking something like a long (really long) row of logs and spikes, etc. forming a wall from one side of the unfortified place to the other. That is, say the Great Escarpment levels out for a bit, then juts back up forming a natural barrier (on both the east and west sides). Then, all along the dip would be this wooden palisade. I bet that could very pretty broadly... shorter stakes here where the dunes rise, jutting out there according to terrain, a stone tower here or there, and elevated platform for, say, smoke signals to Queenscross, etc. On the inside could be a sort of nomadic town, nothing too permanent or fancy, since we're well into the Badlands here! The entire adding fortifications idea would fit in well with the next chapters guild to guild combat or at least stressed feelings and/or the Nocty split-up. Of course if we did what I'm suggesting/something like it, we would have to make sure the name fits! -
Thanks! I love driftwood! Thanks! Why don't you try it out!

Perhaps because they're all... futuristic? No that's not exactly the word. I mean like, the Welder could (maybe) weld the parts of a rocket/shuttle together (er, theoretically), the Female Robot is clearly not an everyday thing, the Yeti looks like he could be from some ice planet, the Scientist would of course be the brains behind the whole expedition, and the evil robot... well, he's probably the menace they're going to fight. Yeah, I know... But really though, it's a good question. There doesn't seem to be a logical explanation... not too logical, that is!
