Down on the coast of southern Kaliphlin temperatures are perfect for growing grapes, and thanks to how out-of-the-way the spot is, it has been left relatively untouched by the civil war that tore the rest of the guild apart. Since Ageven's home town isn't too far away, he payed the owner of one of the largest vinyards in the sector a visit, and convinced him to ship a few much-desired loads of grapes into the interior of Kaliphlin. Picking grapes in the hot sun can be hot work! As the grapes are picked, sorted, and packed, they're being loaded onto carts for transportation. The wealthy owner has a fairly elaborate country mansion on the site. From the elevated second story Ageven and he can get a good view of the operations! I've been wanting to build one of these for quite a while and Soccerkid's contest was the perfect opportunity! I really enjoyed the vine part even though it got a bit tedious. Quite please with how it turned out on the whole although I do think the pictures could be better (but I always think that!). Also, I now have a lot more respect for those of you who do crazy roofs. That corner took me foreeeever! Comments and criticism are welcome! Thanks for looking!

Very nice little vig, I'm really liking the greenhouse and the trees too! The use of those fences is spot on as well!

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Kai NRG replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Still 4. We do seem to in general have rather few active Kaliphlinians though. However, I at least make a point of reviewing every build that asks for credit if I see it (can't promise that I've never missed any though!) although occasionally I don't comment, usually because I don't feel it's good enough to get a +1 but I don't want to be the bad guy and give it a negative, especially if other Kaliphlinians have already passed it (now, if I accidentally miss your build, don't automatically assume that I thought it was lousy! ). On another note... just finished my husbandry entry. Personally, I kinda think it's my best build yet! -
"Wow!" or "Did you build that yourself?!" is the usual reaction I get, at least, whenever there happens to be an MOC built (rather than in the process of being built or of being destroyed) to display. I don't hide my LEGO, certainly, but because I MOC a lot I don't keep anything particularly large available for viewing (so some people are probably under impressed). Mom's with kids that are/used to be interested in LEGO usually complement me on my orderliness and complain about the pieces all over the floor that their kids leave. (And my gut reaction is, what a waste of pieces! ) Most visitors don't actually "play" unless you yourself invite them to. They might shoot off a spring loader or two, but they'd probably be embarrassed to zoom the car along the floor or swish a spaceship around the room. And of course, unless you actually get out your minifigure collection and ask them to build some figures, they're not going to just delve in! Most people do seem to enjoy building figs though, if they get into it. No one has really looked at me as immature because of my hobby, though as I get older, I might have that problem more. But I do try to keep it within bounds.

Very nice trio of ships! I'm especially enjoying the way you did the sterns! I think I'll have to choose the Continental as my favorite; great use of sheilds and I really like the curves you drew with 1x1 gold round studs!

Very nice build, the smooth lines are spot on and I really like all the details like the plant in a pot and the way you stuck the round 2x2s on top of the gas machines! Also for some reason the understud on the top of the S looks really awesome to me! Great work!

What are some good ways to create towers?
Kai NRG replied to ShastaSerpentine's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Some builders also use slopes to good effect: Ol' Poggards' Mill by David Hensel, on Flickr or Zelpunra's Tower by Halhi141, on Flickr Of course, behind that, is this... so you might want to stick with something a wee bit simpler! But while were on the parts-intensive stuff, here's another technique for ya! curvy pattern by Katie Walker, on Flickr Or this, but of course, this one would make one big tower: Curved wall, 1x3 plates by Katie Walker, on Flickr Or, if you should happen to be interested in a really, really, really big tower, the brickbending technique I used for the border here would get you a tower with about 48 studs of diameter. That's all I can think of to add to Brickcurve's very thorough help! -
Thanks rodiziorobs! The Octan logo is indeed pretty sweet, I'll probably be using it quite frequently! Thanks Pombe! I'm really glad you liked it that much! And go right ahead with the Octan symbol! Thanks David!

Very nice floor, I really like the subtle tilt! Also all those sand green bricks never fail to amaze. Nice work with the table too! As for the painting, perhaps if you had tried to incorporate some cheese slopes it would have helped to lessen the pixelated effect?

Thanks SpacerSteve! That round 'brickbending' technique is very useful; though I wouldn't recommend leaving it built for too long, it's sure to put a lot of stress on the bricks! Thanks!

Super cool buggy! I really like the shape and the color transition on the stream of fire is great too!

Very nice work here Gideon! The dam in particular is excellent and I like your attention to detail in including a plank to get across (though I would just jump ). Personally I'm not a huge fan of the tree (it doesn't seem quite sturdy enough) though the canopy looks really good! And I see you already have quite a pileful of olive stalks... +1 for the UoP credits!

Husbandry Challenge: If you pay peanuts...

Excellent use of the plant guy's head! Great pumpkin patch too! Wouldn't want to be that intruder! -

I'll echo several of the previous comments and say - great roof! Very nice work with the texturing! I spy a gap or two that might could be done away with, but apart from those, I really like it. Also good job on the road texturing! -
Thanks everyone! Yes, quite a cool color! I actually managed to run out of 2x1s in that color though! Thanks! Thanks Kodan! It's definitely very parts intensive - took quite a while to destroy!

Location: G04 Tags: Civil, Building, Vehicle, Airplane, Land Vehicle [motorcycle], Exploration Good morning, Fractor V! Good morning, Pink lotus! And good morning... um... black and blue plant... or whatever your name is. I so love my tree-house! A view of Guy's get-around vehicle. And his motorcycle! That was a lot of 2x1 plates. C&C welcome! Personally I think this is probably my best AG build yet, so I hope you like it!

Thanks! That's one nice thing about building Sci-fi - you get use out of pieces that before seemed pretty worthless! Thanks Umbra!

Very nice miniature trees and some neat posing! The detective shot is very clever!

I'd like to purchase the Wolverine's Bone please!

Really nice technique for the water here! I don't envy you the stacking though. The path and windmill are also really nice, and I like the clothesline - nice addition! If I may offer a critique though - I think that given the low toned colors of the build, taking it on a bright background might have helped a bit. Colored flowers (instead of white) would also probably have livened the scene up. Other than those minor things however, very nice build!

Excellent micro, lots of really neat piece use like those wedges in the building and the domes for the greenhouse (I've got a couple of those and always wondered how to use 'em!).

Thanks Garmadon! The hand was sort of a last minute addition. I figured it needed something to spiff it up! Thanks! I actually started off with that windshield and pretty much built the rest around it. Thanks! Thanks judges!

My little signature thing doesn't seem to be showing the refund yet... ? (Does that mean the decision has changed in favor of me getting the tag? ...I wish... )
