Pretty much. It's just cut and paste boilerplate made to sound as if it was a specific response. And they always love whatever it is you are asking about.

TLG always uses three colors more because that's how color design works. It's not limited to Lego. 2 complimentary colors and an accent. It's all color wheel and color theory stuff. You actually choose what colors to paint your kitchen the same way. When they design a set or a theme it will be based on 3 color color pallets. Now they will typically always have more than three colors in a set. Largely in order to make the build sane and fun. They have to use color to differentiate between similar small parts or the builder would go nuts. Also Lego instructions get pretty heinous when they are monochrome.

I agree those gears added so much texture to the original. I think Mark said that the problem was all technic gears are color locked so the builder can easily identify them, rather than counting teeth. And the current locked tan color just looked horrid on the mech.

The bow, which is probably the trickiest part, looks like it is 4 sub assemblies. The bottom deck is a straight up 2 stud wide brick build with the studs facing forward. It is shaped using standard slopes and bows. There are probably a few clips or connectors hidden along its upper facing surface. The other three bow parts are each just a flat build of a series of black small stepped plates, (it looks like 2x3 and 2x2's mainly), that are then topped off with bows and tiles to give the rounded shape. These are then attached to the clips at the vertical angles to give that rounded bow look. You can't really see which clips and connectors he used in the MOC, (the black just doesn't show well in the pictures) but there are a number of ways to do that without too much fuss. Probably the main parts used to get the bow shape are these. http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?itemType=P&catString=438

It's just the standard formula response.

There is no perfect way to store Lego. The color change, particularly in white parts come from the flame retardants used in the plastic. Mostly Bromides of some type. The exact flame retardants used and the specific mixes change and evolve all of the time. In part because the underlying government regulations change. So different batches of plastic may have different mixes. But Lego does not differentiate by batch when they store parts in the warehouse. Parts of the same type all get mixed together. So color changes over time may occur differently even among the same parts in the same sets. This is not unique to Lego. That "nicotine yellowing" that vintage computers and console video games get is the same thing. The Fire Retardant changes color within the plastic. Exposure to heat and UV light will speed this or make it worse, but nothing will stop it. Not even leaving a set sealed in its factory packaging.

Todd McFarlane tries to make "construction" toys.

So they look like preprinted plastic models? Where's the fun in that? Although the fencing and those towers might be useful for tabletop war gamers.- 35 replies

I don't know about you all. But I'm breathless in anticipation for "60068 Shelter Fraudster". Police colors do shift and change over time. If you look police in most of the older sets drove classic Black and White vehicles. C'mon! You know you all were thinking it... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095882/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_43

Mark Stafford the Lego set designer who converted Peter Reid's project design into the final product, has actually given a pretty good explanation for the barrels. Both the part usage and the color. Over on Redit. Here's the key quote explaining the barrels. http://www.reddit.com/user/Lego_Nabii?count=50&after=t1_cipamwb

At this point I can see it easily being more profitable for them to dive into a more full blown Castle theme. As weird as it would sound, maybe, given the current popularity of Game of Thrones, something like a more Knights Kingdom II faction based thing. With a broader spectrum of colored factions fighting for the crown, each having a distinct look. Kind of Chima, but without the carnivorous Fabuland undertone.

No rumors yet. My guess is she is in a "place" set, not a ship, to better highlight her graffiti.

I'm not sure that there is a completely clear cut answer to that. Remember Lego factories may do one of or both parts of two core things. They produce parts. and they produce sets. The Mexico factory produces sets exclusively for the North American market. (which makes sense that market uses unique packaging.) But part production may not be as cut and dry. I think in most cases TLG prefers to use the more "local to need" factories. It's much cheaper to ship the needed mold to Mexico and run off a batch of parts there, than it is to ship containers of parts. But it is likely not a strict rule, and due to limited molds and simple rules of inventory management I am sure they find some situations where shipping a load of bricks from factory A to factory B in order to meet schedules is the faster cheaper and more efficient option. Especially the farther you go from basic bricks. Although I suspect that the Mexico factory is overall more of a net recipient of bricks from elsewhere than it is a producer of bricks for other locations.

I like it! Thanks for the great review. The set looks interesting. Much better than I was expecting given that they had to convert Pete's status and fragile sculpture into a playable and jointed action Mecha. I don't think we could have reasonably asked for much more. The barrels really don't bother me that much. I never really understood the seeming hatred of that piece in some quarters. I have no problem with Mark Staffords explanation of why he used it. It's hollow and hides a connection transition. Now more importantly, where can we find T shirts like the one Peter Reid is wearing? (Also am I correct in guessing that "Yve" is pronounced "Ivy"?)

Those are gorgeous. I'm jealous of all the Trans neon green. I especially love th eevil space pirates having a Pizza party.

I hate to tell you this, but that project is more of a wish list than a project proposal. It's some basic bricks slapped together in LDD and a request that Lego figure out how to light it. And unless it can be done with existing PF parts and components, it will not happen via Ideas. Electronics requires a whole new level of testing. You would pretty much have to use Mindstorms sensors and a Mindstorms control brick to do any sort of block detection and signaling.

Ok that is just stunning. What is equally amazing is it seems to be both solidly minifig scale, and of reasonable size. Built on standard Lego hull pieces. And it looks amazing with full gun decks and packed with detail and life.

All of the Rogues would be very easy and inexpensive to do except Mirror Master. He's the only one with a weird headpiece that does not match something already in Lego's inventory. Capt cold just needs the Parka hood. Piper would use a CMF elf hat or Santa hat recolor. Zoom just uses a recolor of Flashs cowl. Captain Boomerang uses the CMF butchers hat in blue. Etc.

The red Octagon is most likely from http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=6776-1, just guessing as that set would also have that trans red piece. Although not the White finger hinge tile it's attached to. The blue canopy with finger hinges is most likely from an Exploriens set, assuming the white finger hinge plate goes with it. Otherwise it could be any number of classic space, alpha Team or other sets. The Explorians Starship is one set that would have both the blue pointed canopy and the two white finger hinge pieces. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=6982-1 The tan car interior and the front grill are from one of the adventurers Dessert sets http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=S&catString=53.247 Those parts were common to almost all of them. For that grey tire, maybe Droid Developer Kit? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=9748-1

I think Chris Tolkien is the main block to licensing further works. And he's in his 90's. The younger kids will see licensing the Silmarrilion into a 12 movie arc will be the only way for them to get a huge piece of the pie. Although chances are they won't go near Warner Brothers or New Line or Peter Jackson.

Except in years where there is a Star Wars movie out. At which point SW beats everything even city. That's the thing. That current movie tie in is such an astronomical boost to sales (or can be, but not always, see ; PoP) Ninjago, Chima and the Lego Movie themes are odd ducks. They are essentially licensed themes, and behave more as such. Except that Lego is the principle owner of the IP. They are better compared with Hasbro's Transformers or Mattels He-Man series.

That may be right. Remember the Tolkien stuff seems to work the opposite of the SW stuff. For SW Europe seems to get the sets 2 months before North America. For Hobbit and LotR we have been getting them 2 months before Europe. So October US release, December Euro may be how it goes.

Of those I would say Ultra Agents HQ and by far Arkham Asylum are the better and far more interesting builds. Jabba's Sail barge is some utterly fantastic figures melded to a meh build that doesn't feel anywhere near as satisfying as the original. Hurricane Heist is a strange set. I have it sitting on my desk now. It's oddly fascinating, yet I can't quite decide if I actually like it? It's a very odd set. Very Swooshable, yet really don't know what it is or is supposed to be. Like one of those weird old Jack Kirby comic super vehicles that make no sense whatsoever.
