I understand what you are saying about the negative space. But the alternative honestly always seems much worse. Have you ever looked at the Paradisa female torso's? They are distinctively female print torso a but without the negative space waists and the printed breasts or cleavage. And the eye perceives them almost universally as prepubescent girls. Not matter what scene or setting all of your female Minifigs seem to be 8 years old. It doesn't matter which legs you use. Short, normal, extra long toy story. It's honestly kind of creepy. About the only customized use for the things I can figure is to slap some bearded heads on them and call it a Monty Python MOC.

The best and gentlest cleaner I ever found for things like that is a commercial product called "Goo Gone". It can be found at most household retailers and supermarkets. Target typically even has a tiny bottle of the stuff in their $1 aisle.

I kind of think Black Panther would work better as an introduction in someone else's movie. IM4 or something. That way you can cut right to T'Challa's action. Because I just can't see any way that his actual full origin and backstory doesn't end up looking pretty much exactly like Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall's "Comming to America".

[Review] Rebels Ghost (75053) and Phantom (75048)
Faefrost replied to Scott-S6's topic in LEGO Star Wars
So I finally built this one last night. Not a bad build, but not a perfect set. Pro's; Great Fig's Lot's of Space. The Ghost easily has room for the full main cast to sit or stand inside looks good (if overly colorful) Con's My only major con is that holding it and swishing it is more than a bit awkward for me, with big adult sized hands. The ship is thick, with lots of odd angle plates not held on by much. So the grab points are few and far between. What points there are invariably run afoul of the spring shooter missiles should you have them loaded. -
Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Faefrost replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Pretty much. And once again they have no shades of grey. No middle ground. No "more efficient use of better technologies". And absolutely no idea of the worldwide political consequences of their crusades. Case in point. The downing of the Malaysian airliner this week. Not something that you would blame on Greenpeace, but there is a clear unintended impact of their actions that led directly to it. And one that really should worry our European friends more than a bit. Greenpeace has been staging a decades long campaign of attacking and shaming Western and particularly European Energy companies out of the public space. Completely oblivious to the simple basic and core fact that regardless of Greenpeace's beliefs the people do still need energy to make it through the winter. So Energy providors such as Shell and BP are pulling back. New domestic European energy projects are lobbied against or blocked. Refineries, facilities etc. NIMBY ("Not In My Back Yard") rules the day. So at the end of the day all of Europe is dependent on Russia to make it through the Winter without freezing to death, or to keep the lights on. (remember GP's initial cause was nukes, so they are bad and worse than oil). So now we today find ourselves where Europe's political will is now totally thwarted because of their dependence on Russian Energy. They cannot or are hesitant to act to prevent or end a war on their doorstep because they have lobbied away their self reliance today in the name of the distant theoretical tomorrow. Rather than adapting, evolving and increasing efficiency. In the end, when looking at "good causes" and "good ideas" remember these basic associations Environment = Economics, they are joined at the hip Economics = Energy Energy = Civilization A civilization cannot go cold turkey from its dominant energy source. Attempts to do so without transitioning organically to a new lead to a breakdown in civil order and war. This is the root cause of most wars. (The American Civil War and WW2 particularly in the Pacific being the textbook examples).- 214 replies

Hopefully it's a red one so the blood isn't so obvious :) What? Why are you looking at me like that? Be honest if you were a 9 year old boy the first thing that sucker will be throwing is dismembered minifig parts, like a scene out of Fargo. Lego City is a dangerous place to live. That's why they have all of the overwhelming Police and Fire services. (Although one can't escape the feeling that Lego City lacks the tax base to support them all. ) Hmmm? Thinking on it some more "Lego City" + "City Motors" = "Lego Motor City"! Dear gods Lego City IS Detroit! Those aren't huskies in the new sets... They're Rabid Wolves!

It has to be soon. Jangbricks has a hands on review of the production version up on YouTube. So some review copies must be out there.

We're just jealous you got your hands on it first :) Oh and am I mistaken or does it look like the 2 new Ideas sets will be out practically on top of each other? Interesting.

Probably, if they have updated the cowl mold. Wasn't there some report that they are retiring the headband Bruce Wayne approach in favor of the "Wolverine Goggles" way of dealing with the eye slits?

Hey! I guessed right! And honestly it's an almost perfect choice. It's an extremely obscure variant character. Something like Adam West would have been far more painful. So the end result is that most of the 4 seem reasonably harmless this year. The only truly distinct standout one that would mess with the regular fans is the Collector. And there is something disturbingly meta about the collector being the rare collectable. The other three fall in the realm of "nice to have but not critical". I mean a Hobbit character in a different colored coat, Unikitty with a different facial expression and a Batman variant that is so obscure that only really recent readers would know or those few who might have read that one Silver Age issue but haven't succumbed to dementia yet. Yeah Zur En Arrh is not exactly in the pop culture uber mind. This is a huge improvement over ones like Spider-Woman, Pheonix, Shazam, Green Lantern and Arrow, and Black suit Spider-Man.

Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Faefrost replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What does it matter what Lego does or does not do? Notice Greenpeace is taking on Shell via an uninvolved third party in all of this, Lego? What heroics. However control over the arctic is not monolithic and it is much contested. All talking Shell out of it does is leave it uncontested for Gazprom to exploit and allows it to fund and fuel Putins regime. Or did nobody put those pieces together? The saddest thing about Greenpeace is it is entirely based on good and noble seeming ideas, with little actual thought through to real world geopolitic and unintended consequences.- 214 replies

They do a little bit. Build a Star Wars UCS set and it is obvious that the set is not made to stand up to play the way the system ones are. But that is a world of difference from the truly flimsy static model that the Exo Suit was. The model has to be able to survive some mild handling and swooshing. Besides how pissed would most of us been if the ExoSuit had no poseability? Just that one static pose from the original pictures? I'm thinking that would have pissed us all off far more than the changes that happened.

Gorgeous detail and wonderful use of color.

Besides being a great figure ina nd of himself, Infearno is oneof the best "parts pack" figs we have seen in years. The firey headpiece that can be used in soo many Super Hero MOC's and customs. His head alone is a great general use piece that works well in SciFi or Horror. He has wonderfully colored Torso and Legs (would make a great Sith) and that Galaxy Patrol trooper heavy armor piece in red Yeah that goes nicely with some GS red team squads to make some heavy troops.

Earth tones are nice to actually have in your pool of parts. But they don't grab the attention and sell the sets typically. At least not in anything outside the AFOL focused D2C advanced lines. Kids like a bit of color. It doesn't have to be the classic primary colors. But some splash to make the boxes stand out on the shelves is nice. That's why the Castle sets use things like blue or red trim. The LotR sets have suffered a bit from a distinct lack of accent color, or anything to make any of the sets really pop into the passerby's attention while they are still on the shelf. It's not the fault of Lego. This was the art direction of the film, and it works perfectly for that. And they stayed very faithful to it.

I love it! The ADU was one of my favorite sub themes of a sub theme (loved the ADU was meh on the aliens). I love their color scheme and suits.

That is one of the Exosuit creator, Peter Reid's custom figs in one of his dioramas. You could reasonably view it as the inspiration or prototype of the new green ones we are getting with the Exosuit.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Faefrost replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think the Haunted House is already pretty much gone. Neither of my local Lego stores has anymore. They will not be getting more. I think like GE S@H is just running out the last of the store stock as they get it returned to online warehouse inventory. -
What Marvel/DC Characters Will NEVER Get Minifigures?
Faefrost replied to Suspsy's topic in LEGO Licensed
Ones we will never see? A surprisingly deep pool of Captain America villains. I think it is safe to say we will NEVER EVER see minifigs of; The Hate Monger (with removable hood showing that it's Hitler!) Master Man (Aryan Super Nazi. Yeah that's not gonna happen) Baron Blood (Vampire Nazi! It just gets better!) Flag Smasher The "50's" crazy racist Captain America Americop (Super police officer who goes crazy and starts killing criminals and minorities. Yay!) Black Talon (any of them, there have been 3 each more deliciously horribly racist than the last. From "white guy turning evil because he's given the hand of a black serial killer" to bad Voodoo caricatures wearing chicken head masks.) M.O.D.A.M. (Yep it's "Ms MODOK" Ugh!) Red Guardian (I'm just gonna hazard a guess that "Soviet Super Hero" probably will not be on TLG's to do list anytime soon.) Super Patriot (Flat topped 80's fascist. Although I could easily see a fig of his other later identity. The far more mainstream super hero US Agent) Watchdogs (The KKK in super battle armor) The Yellow Klaw (because casual 50's racist Chinese caricatures hold up so well over time.) -
I don't know. I can easily see Thanos putting one gem in play for the strategy of shaking loose or gaining another. He plays a long game. And I suspect that he already holds the reality gem, so what happens to the other 5 are superfluous so long as he knows where to find them when he needs them. Remember Avengers was not about Thanos seeking to collect the Cube. He apparently knew where it was. Loki could have grabbed it and ran. Thanos was seeking to use the Cube for a purpose. Ideally if written properly Thanos is not Cobra Commander. It's not a fast scavenger hunt to recover the pieces for the weather machine right away. Thanos is wheels within wheels within wheels. Oh and for those that missed it, a new extended trailer for GotG. This one is awesome as it gives pretty much the full back stories of all of the main cast. Plus lots of chatty Racoon goodness. http://youtu.be/EzI-U1Fh9zc In a word AWESOME! Is anyone else getting the impression that for a movie based on a very obscure Marvel comic series, this one appears to have more direct Marvel Universe comic references than all of the previous movies combined? (Oh and apparently Marvel must be thinking so as well. They've already green lit GotG 2, given it to ?James Gunn to direct, and apparently made it a core tent pole for Phase 3, being the main transition between Avengers 2 and 3. Not bad from a comic book no one had ever heard of, directed by a guy who used to work for Troma!)

If you look carefully there is the faint hint of something sticking up just slightly from the middle of that downward slope behind the cockpit. There may be an Astromech back there, and you can only just barely see the tip of it. The story may or may not be awful. We may be outraged in ways we cannot yet comprehend. But the shear emphasis they seem to be putting on practical physical effects and classic model making leave me hope that at a minimum we will be seeing some great ships, and Lego sets of great ships, for years to come.

One of the designers recently gave a bit of insight into it (I think Mark Stafford in that long Redit thread). Part of the problem with printed pieces is that they are extremely labor intensive. Unlike minifig printing which is very automated, printing on other parts typically requires special jigs and rigging and almost always requires manual feeding of the machine by somebody. Whereas stickers literally are "send batch job to printer. Pick up output a few minutes later". I think they can also do more colors at better detail levels with stickers these days.

The only proof we have is anecdotal. But it did seem to get cleared out at deep deep discounts by all of the major sellers. For a longer than normal period of time. Honestly just from eyeballing it, it felt like it was a shelf warmer at list price. One of the biggest problems with the LotR line has honestly been its overall earth tones and subdued color scheme. Yeah it is great for us AFOL's, but the sets were very drab and unattractive to the bulk of the child audience.
