What exactly constitutes a "real" Castle theme?
The_Creator replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I came here to say this.😂 I buy sets for parts, even sets I like and display always end up getting broken into parts. So, for me, what I care about is a medieval/castle theme providing an abundance of cheap building parts and minifigures. I'm not into fantasy at all, but if there is going to be fantasy I'd prefer elves and dwarfs since I can turn them into human factons fairly easily. I also like space themes quite a bit, in that case new space (mostly Star Wars for now) sets I purchase are almost exclusively for parts. My biggest issue with Nexo knights is besides providing a couple good canopy pieces and a few minifigure parts it was almost completely useless for medieval/castle or the style of space I prefer. Now that I've gotten back into LEGO full time after a 7/8 year grey ages I just want any castle/medieval theme so I can buy those parts and minifigures in bulk. I was too young to do it during Kingdoms and the minifigures are too expensive now, and the new BFs need to appear in some more sets so they're available longer than an hour on BAP.😅 -
[Moc] Blacksmith with a classic base
The_Creator replied to pantelis's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This is actually a neat blending of old and new - and as someone who generally hates raised baseplates I quite like this. Great adaptation! -
As miffed as I am that the licensed Ideas sets seem to get more new molds than say MB or POBB, this explanation makes the most sense. Also, if this new Ideas Pooh set sells well (I can't imagine it won't - I even want it now with the final redesigned product) I bet we will see more Disney Pooh sets in the future, and TLG and Disney are likely planning on that.

I'd rather have a new civilian, there are lots of Lion knight minifigures available on the market for reasonable prices, with a vast variety. It's also likely we will get Lion knights as a new theme faction again in the near future since we seem to get one to two Lion factions for every span of a decade since the '80s. Also, for me personally, I like to have shields, barding, and a variety of torso prints for a faction. Just one new torso print isn't /that/ useful, especially without a shield. Not to say I won't end up buying a dozen or two new BFs. Lol
-
That's good news, as others have noted we desperately need more medieval/castle civilians.
-
I'm probably just daft but I can't find the picture(s) anywhere online - anyone want to PM me a link?😅 EDIT: Never-mind, I thought there were pictures. Found the description. I wish it was more than 3 minifigures, but I'll take anything I can get. At the least it should have the new Black Falcons and hopefully that will increase the supply of them. Hopefully the civilian torso print is new - but I just got out of a 6/8 year grey ages and not sure if Creator sets ever get new torso prints?

Out of curiosity.... are kids these days even interested in a non-fantasy castle/medieval TV show with tie-in products? That seems to be a niche market. I agree with the previous posts about what happens when you have a theme based on an IP and you end up with 50 variants of the same character. That's no good to me, I hate wasted minifigures. Nothing like having a dozen Darth Vaders and Harry Potters in your collection. Like others I too buy licenced sets (in-house or otherwise) for parts. To fill my space theme void I started buying Star Wars sets with damaged boxes and minifigures with good resale value to get cheap parts packs. I might do the same with HP sets too in the future if we don't get a proper castle/medieval theme in the next year or two. However, I still think the best marketing strategy is for LEGO to have a castle/medieval theme with a range of sets that appeal to all FOLs. Like a Kingdoms range but with more MMV (which still seems more Kingdoms than Castle to me) and Joust sets (and Blacksmith style too) in the $100-200 range. You can get traffic from each spectrum of the theme to the other with this strategy. The KFOLs ask for expensive sets for Christmas to match with the smaller sets they got during the year, and the AFOLs buy the small sets to tie in with the large sets they purchase and to army build. Sounds like a win-win to me. No need to kiddify the designs either, lots of kids have Harry Potter and Star Wars sets with muted color scemes and detailed realistic minifigure printing - no reason castle/medieval can't do the same.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
The_Creator replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
You wouldn't happen to have a list of the part numbers for the items you purchased would you? There's a few items in there I'd like to add to my first B&P order. -
I honestly thought Kingdoms did a good job on all but the one Dragon Knights torso in being attractive to kids and useful to adults - having sets from a basic Knights Showdown to the Joust. KKII was very KFOL, the 2008 Castle good guys were fairly KFOL in torso designs, and the 2015 Castle was far more KFOL oriented than Kingdoms. I don't see why TLG can't create modern castle factions that elude to past ones (Black Falcons, Forestmen, Wolfpack, ect.) and sell a range of sets that appeal to KFOLs/TFOLs/AFOLs. AFOLs can purchase as nostalgic and parts packs, and kids can purchase them because they like them. It's literally a win-win and taps into two markets at once, but I don't work for TLG and I don't know their marketing research. Lol

Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
The_Creator replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree with timing. I wish Marvel would create an X-Men animated TV Series since it's been so long but I haven't heard any rumors of that (Wolverine and the X-Men was way too short lived). That would help garner interest, as would new live action films or TV Series. The anniversary may help, but I have a feeling we will need new popular TV or film media for an X-Mansion to be made - and that may be a couple years out, but I'd be happy to be surprised otherwise. -
Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
The_Creator replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I just want a X-Mansion based on classic style costumes (think 6866: Wolverine/Deadpool/Magneto set). Besides, if people will pay $150 for that $20 set these days why wouldn't they pay $300 for an X-Mansion with lots of same styled minifigures? I would! Then again, an MCU set would be good for my wallet since I wouldn't be inclined to purchase it. -
We need Hawkman and/or Hawkgirl next, then Green Arrow, Black Canary, Dr. Fate, ect. As far as the whole boot printing topic - I think that TLG will eventually give us boot printing for Superman, Flash, ect. and that by putting the 'boot-ed' minifigures in new sets they sell more sets due to people buying the set because of said boot printing, and the appeal is still there for new fans of Superheros who didn't get the first incarnation. Sounds like a win-win for TLG to me.

Heh, I'm 10 days late but oh well. Awesome to see Martin Manhunter, too bad it's New 52 and you have to spend $75 on LEGO.com to get him…, guess it'll be a pass then. Excited for NYCC though, should be getting some GotG pictures.

SDCC exclusives are generally annoying, so if TLG was to do like they did with Sups and Azog that'd be great. A GL minifigure is awesome news! All I'll have to do is switch out the head and hair for War Machine's head, since John Stewart doesn't wear a green mask-thingy and vala I have John Stewart.

Thanks. Well, Since Bats vs Sups was postponed till '16, and the sets moved a year I'm hoping for a great DC wave in '15, hopefully a few new characters. Yeah, that suit is awesome…, maybe a polybag will be made. From what I've read it sounds like AoS is going to and has recently improved a lot, although I'm a few episodes behind at the moment so I'm not sure. I wonder if there's any chance if a set or two off of the Netflix series this fall…

Totally agree, the DCAU would have made the best source material for DC LEGO sets ever. I wonder if DC will ever reboot the DCAU with the same animation look and some of the same voice talent… meh, I can dream can't I? As far as Super Heroes becoming an evergreen theme - great thing as no matter how much Spidy and Bats there is there will probably be a couple good sets, increasing in number as the theme gets older, and as long as I eventually get Green Lantern, Hawkman/Hawkgirl, Martin Manhunter, Green Arrow, and Black Canary. But, I'd also love to get Dr. Fate, Huntress, The Question, Gorilla Grodd, Brainic, Darkseid, brick…, I'll take anything new on the DC side besides the Bat family, even though Bat-excess does save me money… As far as Marvel goes, as long as Marvel and TLG get their act together and make sets off of all MCU movies and hopefully eventually TV shows then I'll be happy. Even though the X-Men are my favorite Marvel team I'm not big on a lot of the suit variations, but I rather liked the ones on X-Men: Evolution, so if future X-Men suits were styled akin to those or Wolverine and the X-Men I'd be happy, and the ones in the Civil War series were good. Once again, evergreen theme is good because there's a greater chance of getting aforementioned characters/outfits.
