  1. Good morning gang, I recently recieved a batch of parts from bricklink and would like some feedback if possible regarding the EN. I currently have my EN built with an XL motor in he engine and an additional small pf motor in the tender. This setup has work for dealing with uneven track and the EN getting stuck. I would like to re do the design and remove the small motor in the tender and use the PF train bogie on the tender instead. My question is how will this affect the XL motor with the pf train bogie on the tender. I am considering removing the XL motor all together and just using the PF bogie instead. The XL motor is loud and slow. Let me know what everyone thinks as this will be my weekend rebuild starting tonight. Ed
  2. great ideas!!!! I would love to do something along the lines of an auto carrier.
  3. Hey gang, So I have several extra yellow train bases. These are the same bases that come with the Maersk Container Cars. I made a ondola using these but it doesnt look right. I tried a flat bed car and that as well did not look as planned. Sooooo, Im looking for design ideas.
  4. Hey gang, So several people have recently posted some really good looking projects focusing on the TTX modular train cars. I wanted to share with everyone my build based on ideas from everyone elses amazing work. I used the pieces from my Original Lego TTX cars to build most of these. I wanted to keep to the original design but be able to acomidate a larger truck trailer. Enjoy and please provide feedback. I have gone ahead and order lots of supplemental pieces from bricklink to build several of these and run a train of just modular container cars :-)
  5. Wow! Thank you for the .lxf Obviously I built mine in error and you have addressed he issuses above. Great design and great build! Keep up the inspiration for us!
  6. I love the design. You inspired me this weekend to redo my old original Lego TTX cars for a more modern style to equip the larger more lifelike containers. Suprisingly alot of the old parts from the old cars were able to be used in my new design. I will post pics but I wanted to thank you for the inspiration. On a sidenote I built a model just like the one you posted above. I loved your design but the wheels are restricted and can not turn left or right due to the ladder. The design programs do not take this into affect. I also noticed that the cars have a slight bow to them in the middle and require additional support when adding containers to them. Keep up the good work and inspiration. :)
  7. Love the suggestions! Guess I know what I'll be working on this weekend :)
  8. Thank you for the suggestions! I am going to work on the tender and incorporate a motor in it so i can drive this MOC. I wanna do rods, any suggestions. Make technic pieces seem to be either to short or to long :(
  9. OMG I love the design! I need to go home and dig through my parts bins and build this! Thank you for the feedback!
  10. So I was not happy with Lego's design for their official ghost train. I went back and rebuilt mine with a few extras to create more detail. Check it out and let me know what you guys think.
  11. Hey gang, I started to work on a bridge for my trains and would like some feedback or advice. I have taken pics of what I have so far. I would like advice on colum and pillar design to support this bridge. Honestly I don't want to go to high from the ground because I run the trains on the ground and building an elevation higher up gets too long and tacky. Thanks for looking....
  12. Good advice everyone! I did not add too much detail as I was trying to keep to the official Lego detail and want the car to blend in. I agree about the doors and have been trying to come up with a double door design. I like how this is v1.0 so with the advice I will have to tweak the design. Thanks again, new pics to come when I get the chance
  13. Here is my own design for a baggage car to add to my emerald night train. Feedback is always welcome. Sorry for the fuzzy first couple pics.
  14. This is exactly what I was looking for. I did not have any of those multi hole pieces in my collection so it's no wonder that I couldn't figure out a way to do this before. Thank you for posting details!!!
  15. where is this set available? I have been looking around locally but no one has it...
  16. Just wanted to share my MOC Train station. As always it seems to be a never ending work in progress but here are some pics of what I've done so far :-) http://www.flickr.com/photos/edsmith0075/sets/72157632609123761
  17. My concern is incorrect voltage. I asked because I don't want to fry or damage anything.
  18. Another Battery question, I know, sorry. Anyway, I have rechargable batteries in my PF battery boxes and am wondering if there is a way that I can recharge them without removing them from the battery holder. The six batteries inside can be a PIA to get out so I'm curious if there is any other options other than upgrading to the Lego rechargable battery box.
  19. Greetings crew, I am curious if anyone has ever hooked up two battery boxes on the same PF train setup. I would like to get a bit longer/more juice out of my trains and am wondering if two PF battery boxes can be wired together? Any advice will be appreciated. Ed
  20. Looks good! I want to add lights to mine so that will be the next mod. Oh and with the extra motor this train will move and at full throttle is capable of derailing on a tight turn!
  21. This may have been posted already but I have come across other people searching for a remedy to adding an extra PF boogie to there existing setup. Having one PF motor will work for short length lightweight trains but most people like to run lots of rolling stock and the designs are becoming heavier with the more details being added to the design. So we need more power! You can simply add another PF Boogie, Right?! Yes and No. The additional boogie in most cases will face the opposite direction of the already installed one. This means the boogies pull in opposite directions! the simple solution to this is a switch to change polarity of the current on the new boogie. I picked up the part at Toys-R-Us. It was the Power Functions starter kit, came with a switch lights and small motor. I did this project on my latest locomotive and was pleased with the results. Fortunatly there was plenty of space in the frame to hide the switch and having the additional powered boogie allows me to hook up additional cars with little to no signs of strain or wheel slippage. Below are pics and you can refer to my Flickr page for additional pics. Feel free to add feedback or ideas to this tip. Previously I was splicing wires and soldering connections to fix this problem. This is much easier and cosmetically appealing.
  22. Greetings gang, I have decided to post a modification that I have made to my Emerald Night Locomotive that may help others. The problem I was having was with the PF XL motor and rigid train frame the EN would get stuck on dips and rises throught the track surface. This was primarily an issue going over switches or minor grades changes. So my initial plan was to remove the XL motor and build a passenger car that was equipped with motors to push the engine. I changed my mind on this one and challenged myself to incorporate the XL motor in the engine and then an additional motor in the tender along with the battery. So after the assistance of fellow enthusiast on this site and the Railbricks magazine, I created a boogie/truck to mount on the tender with minor modifications to the original tender design. Keep in mind this is still a work in progress but what I have completed thus far has made a huge difference and resolved alot of traction issues with this particular locomotive. Pictures are below feel free to copy and I am always looking for additional feedback to better a design :-) http://flic.kr/p/e7AJX7 Check out my Flickr page for more pics. I also added the modification to the front rod which fixed the locking up issue and smoothed out the engines driveline. As you can see I only geared one axle on the boogie, this is due to me running out of gears and not having enough to gear the other axle. I have ordered the additional parts from bricklink and will update accordingly. I have tested this design and even with only the one axle powered it helps a whole lot. Does anyone have advice for adding weight to the tender or even the engine to further improve the traction?
  23. I feel like I'm digging up a sore topis as many people are advising me not to use the lego brand track due to sensetivity to extreme temps and U/V exposure. So..... With that said I am pretty headstrong on planning out a garden railroad of lego. The trains will not be left outside and the only pieces exposed to the elements will be the track. I began thinking that if I was able to protect the track for U/V light it will last longer! Hasanyone here had any experience or know of any spray on U/V plastic protectants? I found a lot of stuff to treat car headlights that have yellowed over time from exposure but am looking for feedback. On a side note I plan to began testing of my own track and prolonged exposure to the sun, extremes and weather. I will start a new thread with monthly pics of the exposed track. I figure this will be a great start to this project for not just me but the many others dreaming of doing the same :-)
  24. Thank you for the link and info. I am going to go ahead with the instructions linked above and then modify and tweak the design as needed. Thanks again
  25. I love this train! I have checked the resources on this site and also railfan but can not find directions or a parts list.... Any advice? Here is another train I would love to buy or build if I can just get the parts sheet and directions! C40-8W http://www.flickr.co...duff/7076845031 http://i.ebayimg.com...IbcQ~~60_12.JPG
