  1. I am currently looking for feedback on how to incorporate 2 xl motors or even 1 xl motor into a 6 wide locomotive. I want to incorporate them into my GE ES44AC. I used the building directions from railbricks and have completed the model. Now I would like to incorporate 2 xl PF motors into this train. Any suggestions? I just ordered two of the PF L Motors and would be open to feedback on incorporating those as well. Thanks in advance Ed
  2. WOW!!!! Your awesome! thank you for providing that!!!
  3. Thanks for the inspiration pics. I have a completed bogie as instructed from the railbricks article. I am at work and unable to gather a pic of what I have but it looks identical to the one they give instructions on building.

  5. I have recently decided to build a 3 truck boogie but am having trouble figuring out the sides. I used the design from railbrick with the sliding mid axle. This design is used on the "Katy". I built it to specification but am having a hard time trying to figure out how to attach the side pieces. The ones that cover the wheels. I see them in the picture but they do not give instructions on this final element.
  6. Looks great ! Could you show us how you wire 2 batteries a 2 pf recievers together?
  7. Hey crew, As my lego train hobby has grown as too has the length of my trains. I am currently in need of adding two more PF Train motors to the already 2 train motors on the primary loco. Is there a way I can set this up. Right now I have to use an extra loco with 2 PF train motors with the reciever set to the same frequency as the primary loco. This works ok, but I would like to only use one Ir reciever. Thanks in advance for any advice. I plan to build my outdoor setup in the spring, in order to run efficiently I will need more power for these trains and able to run multiple locos to pull the cars. Ed
  8. Greetings crew, Something that has always bothered me about the LEGO Maersk locomotive is that it is an SD-40 but only has 2 axles per drive. In real life they have 3 axels per drive unit. I would like some advice on modifying this to match the real life loco. I plan to bump out the front and back and make the steps a little thinner. The challenge arrives with keeping the PF motors but adding an additional axel to the setup. So what I need help with are design ideas that can take a 2 axle PF motor and adding a 3rd axle. I have been browing flickr for ideas but figured this crew knows more resources and experience. Thanks in advance Ed
  9. Hey gang, I am planning a garden setup starting in the spring and stumbled onto this site. They gave some good advice and experience using plastic track. While I know it's Lego it's still plastic and in the "toy" family. The lego track will hold up to the cold and hot. I plan to coat all track in UV protectant clear coat to ensure protection. The website that I linked to recomends UV coating as well. Hope this helps everyone that is pondering a Lego garden setup. http://www.familygardentrains.com/primer/shoe_string/toy_trains.htm
  10. My parts for this project hav started to arrive. Now I need to find the time to put it all together.
  11. I got mine in the mail yesterday, I tried out a test piece and they hold well on lego bricks. I plan to do my MOC GP38 in Norfolk Southern with the decals when I get a chance. I'm excited because MOC Trains look so blah without decals. I'll post pics as I go along for others to see.
  12. Hey Gang, I just wanted to pass on some info about a geat decal company that I have ordered my MOC train decals from. http://www.microscale.com/ these guys are reasonibly priced and have just about every logo and sticker needed to detail our trains. They pre cut, well made, and even come with a picture diagram of where they go on the train. I ordered the O-Gauge decals and they fit perfect on my trains. I plan to post pics but have been super busy with other projects and waiting for BL orders to arrive.
  13. I started the project last night, need to post pics. Anyway, I plan to make the engine window less. I am going to keep the windows the way they are originally. I like the Horizon sideway windows more but am trying to keep some of the original elements for this train. I don't want to make a duplicate just similar. The extended passenger cars make a HUGE difference in this kits appearance. My wife even noticed the difference calling the longer cars "sexy" lol. Time to get on bricklink and order supplies to build 3 more cars!
  14. I was thinking about the extension with a technic plate for the boogie. Has anyone else done ths or have pics available?
  15. I recently scored a partially complete 7897 kit from ebay. I would like to build the passenger cars out to match the current TGV lego train kit dimensions. I can only find the white bases in shorter sizes, none at 28 studs or equvialant to TGV length. Any advice on how to work around this? I saw a picture of someone who modified their 7897 kit in a similar way but can not find the photos online. Soooo... Any suggestions? I like this kit but the cars are far to short in length for my taste.
  16. THANK YOU!!! I spent all night trying to get this right but I was missing the 2x1. Cant wait to get home and work on this! Thanks again :-)
  17. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/292615 I am currently trying to build the stairs that are seen on this GP38. I have been trying different setups but have not been able to get it right. Can anyone give me advice or guidance as too how this design is done. Thanks in advance
  18. Thank you soooo much for this info! I apperantly was looking at the wrong parts and after your suggestion realized the error. I think I will try to utilize the other techniques in other locomotive builds. Thanks again
  19. Thats a good one! off to homedepot. An others?
  20. Greetings crew, I need info/advice regarding the black handrails on the Lego Trains. I noticed that the parts are flexible. I looked the part up on BL and there are none in the US and the few that are out there are very expensive and rare. Is there something I can use in place of this part. It does not have to be lego brand. I was going to stop at a craft store and roam the aisles looking for something similar. Thanks in advance :-)
  21. Thanks for the feedback! These cars are not as common as they use to be back in the 90's. Now you see the cargo container cars. Which I love build also. I might build another of these but my next project is boxcars, just looking for advice to start on these. I want more realistic boxcars, The lego ones are to short, I love the high cube boxcars!
  22. Yeah, I remeber train watching as a child and this type of overhead signal system was common. Working off an image in my head of the real thing on amtrack lines and similar.
  23. Working on the modern TTX Piggy back car. I loved seeing a "Pig" train growing up so I wanted to try and recreate one for my lego trains. Feedback always appreciated :-) IMG_1187[1] by Edsmith0075, on Flickr IMG_1188[1] by Edsmith0075, on Flickr IMG_1189[1] by Edsmith0075, on Flickr IMG_1190[1] by Edsmith0075, on Flickr
  24. Just a few pics of my overhead signal... Advice is always welcome. I built this from left over pieces I have around. 25. I am currently running 2 pf motors with no problems, if anything at full power it derails on turns. If you do decide to use 4 motors let us know how you wire that up as I have only been able to wire a max of 2 pf motors per ir receiver.
