  1. Many users from outside the Pirate forum believe it is already too big and defies the true "spirit" of Eurobricks. Putting a second Pirate forum at root level may be healthier for the Pirate forum but we must also take into consideration how the rest of Eurobricks would feel about it. Going by the current reaction to the Pirate forum I don't think some users would like it at all. Why do you think it would be better for the entire Eurobricks forum? Would it not seem like the pirate forum was trying to invade Eurobricks?
  2. Yes, you're right Bonaparte, it would be better if the MOC sub-forum was on the same level as the discussion forum but obviously as part of Eurobricks we can't really do that. Well we could but I don't think it would go down to well... However, what we can do is have a homepage with news flashes and links to tutorials and reviews. That's what I was referring to in my previous post.
  3. Even though you're joking I won't say I'm amused by it because you can easily view my post count on my profile. Which for the Pirate forum is 2,224 posts leaving 11,987 posts by other users. So yes I agree I do have a high post count but that's to be expected as an administrator. I suppose when I register the domain and get some webspace a HTML interface can be used to better index all the information. The information will still be contained within the forum but the HTML interface will have better organisation. Then maybe one day someone with programming skills could come along and integrate the HTML and forum. I agree the overhaul of the Pirate forum is not the most ideal structure but its the best that can be done for now. Eventually the forum will evolve to become more organised and less forum orientated like in your suggestions but only so long as it keeps growing. Early in the new year I hope to set about registering that domain and once that happens things can move forward.
  4. 8-o For a minute there I thought it was a floating Eldorado Fortress!
  5. And so the thread was moved...
  6. So is that 21 cannons left over? Or 21 cannons in total? If so that means 21 - 14 = 7 remaining.
  7. The design of Baron Sat's capstan looks a lit less complicated than Mr Phred's! However, I'm assuming that Baron Sat's design is limited to brown because I'm not aware of ships wheel's being different colours. Mr Phred's on the other hand offer much more colour flexibility.
  8. >8-) Ah yes, so he did... How many months though?
  9. Dark coloured backgrounds require more lighting however because they absorb light. If its too dark then you've got to contend with accidentally keying out the black too. However, I'm no expert in this area, I just know keying with software available to the average user is a very fiddly process getting it to work properly.
  10. "When the pirate community grows that big?" that's an interesting way of looking at things. It might not get any bigger, it doesn't seem to be getting any bigger than it was 3 months ago when it was at its peak. Users seem to come and go, but we don't really seem to increase the number of users who post every day. Although, the Pirate forum still receives a healthy following, when we started back in July we had about 4600 posts and now we're nearing 14,600 post. So that's nearly 10,000 in under 6 months which is better performance than any other Eurobrick's forum. So things aren't bad by any means.
  11. Yep, that's the Yahoo smiley. However, I can't put the winking smileys back because they're different sized images. The reason I modified them was to make all the smileys a consistent size, although I think the the details in the winking simleys seemed too cramped. It does take time to design a smiley and so we must bare in mind I can't go changing all the smileys based on one opinion otherwise I'd be changing them for every user. Your feedback was good but I'm not looking for perfection so maybe it was a bit nitpicky. I'll make some modifications to the smileys I think need more work (I.e. :( ), but if any of the other smileys need changing then it will take the requests several users to make it worthwhile. Otherwise it'll be a full time job just perfecting these smileys. However if someone else wants to work on them, then by all means go ahead because I'm no master at designing smileys.
  12. There is no plan. We just gradually get bigger and bigger and if one day we find ourselves an independent website then so be it. But that's not going to happen in the foreseeable future.
  13. And whenever you're dealing with pale coloured objects which are extremely that are close to the background you're going to encounter spillage - unless the camera is brilliant and the lighting has been setup properly.
  14. How do you afford all these Bonaparte? Every week you seem to be spending hundreds of dollars on these Imperial Guards, do you have a very nice job?
  15. How are you going to do anything without a camera? Will you acquire one to do this project? You'll need a constant blue background with very little variation in colour and to achieve that you'll probably need artificial lighting. It will also mean you can't use similar shades of blue (I.e. Imperial Solder torso) otherwise they'll be keyed out too, although depending on the program you use you can limit the keying area. But another problem you'll no doubt encounter is spillage where the the haze from the blue background shines onto the LEGO. Its very difficult to set up.
  16. Mr Norro, what do you mean by I can watch my piece count grow?
  17. That's easier said than done! Have you ever tried to build a MOC with a design The LEGO Company would use? I have and its a challenge, nevertheless look at Puerto Brico as an example of what can be done. Yes of course. I wouldn't register the name without permission only to have it taken way 6 months later because The LEGO Company disapproves. This will all stay as a forum unless someone with programming skills wants to implement a different system. I don't have any programming skills so its beyond my ability. But all most users need to know is the main Pirate forum and the Pirate MOC forum, the rest are just archives which will be dealt with later. We already have several discussions in regards to are the bluecoats British or French and I don't see how an independent website would change that.
  18. Mouth to low::'-) :( Agreed Eyes to far: 8-o I'm satisfied with this. Eyes to close: ;-) If they're moved then they'll be too far appart. Eyes to small: :-O Its going to be hard to make them larger. Eyes to big: :-$ :-/ :-/ This is what would happen in I made the above smiley's eyes bigger. Eyes not level: X-D :) I agree for the second, but for the first the eye can't be raised otherwise it conflicts with the eye brow. Mouth too long :S Yeah, it needs revision. looks plain weird: :skel1: Not sure how this :skel1: looks any weirder than this Ripping off that Yahoo Smiley was a bad idea X-D Good work on the feedback. Not sure when I'll get round to updating them though. All the smileys are supposed to be there if you click "Show All" but it seems to bring up the default smileys instead. I'll have to ask the Root Admins how to change this.
  19. Then this thread is pending relocation! Where's the best place to put it?
  20. Didn't Baron Sat build a capstan in his Ship Vignette using brown parts?
  21. 8-o Don't be absurd! Its called the "Unpredictable" because we can't predict how many cannons Mr Tiber has remaining!
  22. Yes, www.classic-pirate.com is probably the most viable option but I'd still attempt for www.pirate-lego.com. :-/ I don't really see how www.classic-pirate.com is going to generate more traffic. Those who aren't currently in the "online AFOL loop" may not realise its a LEGO website and move along. Part of my marketing strategy is rope in AFOLs that aren't aware of online communities like Eurobricks, Classic Castle & Space, Lugnet, etc. And I doubt someone who has an interest in Pirate LEGO will see www.pirate-lego.com and think "Hmmm... Better avoid that website since its not 'classic pirate'"
