Request Pirate Lego - what future sets would you like?
Mister Phes replied to Norro's topic in LEGO Pirates
Just checking that you're aware that either yourself or someone else will need to post that at Lugnet? Excellent work Mr Norro! Although there were links in that post which are imperative for it to make sense, otherwise someone reading it will think "What the is that buffoon referring to?" So could you please edit the post with the below text which is in Lugnet format: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Greetings I am Mister Phes the administrator of the Pirate LEGO Forum and I'm here to represent a vast number of Pirate LEGO fanatics at the forum. For a "dream" Pirate LEGO set I'd be willing to pay up to US$150 so long as the set was large and well designed. Briefly I shall reveal what I (and many at the Pirate LEGO Forum) would love to see, although some users have ideas which I won't mentioned as they may wish to do so themselves. 1) A large fortress (preferably Imperial Armada) using the the 48 x 32 baseplate. 2) Small ship(s) with brick built hulls like the "Cutter" from [6277 Imperial Trading Post]. No need to make all ships use large hull pieces! 3) A non pirate or non military ship(s) and building(s). During the Golden Age of Piracy there were hundreds of colonies and settlements throughout the Caribbean so sets based on that concept would be good. Particularly if they were sets that could be built individually but also placed adjacent one another to form a large village. <http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6037 View Puerto Brico> for an example 4) Mini-figure packs/army builders. There are never enough Imperial Armada or Imperial Guards mini-figures! Perhaps something like <http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4190 Imperial Ground Forces> would be interesting. 5) A military War Galleon or Frigate. In other words a large ship like [6265 Black Seas Barracuda] only for the Imperial Guards or Imperial Armada. What's important is any dream Pirate set would have to retain a similar design style to the original SYSTEM Pirate theme yet it could incorporate newer LEGO elements, just so long as it didn't look too far removed from the original pirate sets (I.e. Knights Kingdom 2 vs Classic Castle). Puerto Brico has established a brilliant equilibrium between old style design while incorporating recent LEGO pieces so something along the lines would be excellent. Pirates in general seem to be more popular than ever amongst children and its a wonder The LEGO Company hasn't taken logical steps to capitalise on this. Obviously the SYSTEM Pirate theme isn't as popular as Classic Castle, but after nearly a decade of absence its no surprise, its not fresh in minds of the LEGO world. However, we at the Pirate LEGO forum are building momentum and will continue to remind the rest of LEGO world how great this theme is! (And how profitable it could be to The LEGO Company should new Pirate sets be released) -
And there's also the spill or matte lines which is noticeable on the lighter colours like the white of the helmet or the yellow of the heads. Do you have a link to this animation Mr ImperialScouts?

I agree it is very very very nice to open a brand new LEGO set with the pristine pieces and that "new" LEGO smell. But as I have come to appreciate the value of rare items I'd never open a MISB LEGO set (even non Pirate sets) that was no longer in production. Preserving these rare items is more important than experiencing initial high of opening and building a set. Exactly how long does that last anyway? A couple of hours? The pieces lose their "newness" within a couple of days and then its just another "used" LEGO set. No longer special. I'd feel very selfish "killing" a MISB set just so I could experience that high, it would be like killing an elephant just for the thrill of the hunt.
-
All thanks to people like Mr Sting! X-D
-
It could be depending upon how you look at it, but it seems the MISB phenomena can have an influence over how some people determine what is a prized set.

A red & white and blue & white what standing next to each other?

Which is your favourite base in the Pirate LEGO theme?
Mister Phes replied to Tully's topic in LEGO Pirates
I can add a poll if Mr Tully wants this to be a poll... :) -
That's an interesting measure meant system and it seems rather plausible. And remember folks 1 feet = 30.48 centimetres. ;-)
-
You mean and There's something you should know...
-
Check out Brickset Brickset seems to agree with the City Mayor... No you don't. It was released in 1999.
-
And there's another packaging difference, sets like Rock Island Refuge released in 1991 had the yellow border with "LEGOLAND" written diagonally in the top left hand corner. However, the packaging was changed in 1992 to the purple border with "SYSTEM" written next to the LEGO Logo. So some Rock Island Refuges have the LEGOLAND style boxes while the later sets have the SYSTEM style boxes. Then there's all the regional variations. I.e. In some places (particular the USA I think) had the name of the set written on the box while other places didn't. And some had a sub-theme logo in the top right hand corner - I think that might have also been the USA. Not sure about other locations.
-
Exactly how did they get it right in Rock Island Refuge?
-
Actually 5 feet is 152.4 centimetres :-D But aye carumba! 1.52 metres is long for a LEGO ship! What has inspired you to make a ship this big?
-
Are those two cylinders supposed to be the "mini-rotating cannon"?
-
Hmmm... Rupi or Jipay That's where my focus is at the moment...

Black Seas Barracuda vs Skull's Eye Schooner
Mister Phes replied to ukdevilz's topic in LEGO Pirates
The Skulls Eye Schooner has done a lot of catching up. At the time of writing it has 6 votes while the Black Seas Barracuda has 8, and bare in mind I still haven't casted my vote yet. -
Request Pirate Lego - what future sets would you like?
Mister Phes replied to Norro's topic in LEGO Pirates
I think I might take you up on that Mr Norro. I've had enough of Lugnets uninformative error Emails. To create mystique of course! -
And if you agree LEGO these days isn't "All That" then you probably should visit the Request Pirate Lego - what future sets would you like? and do something about it!
