  1. Could you please tell us which tags or Instagram accounts you were following in order to see this? This information could be beneficial when promoting other pirate creations on LEGO Ideas.
  2. The Paradisa theme from 1992 also did this to better represent swimwear.
  3. I disagree with that statement as each tribal culture, or in some cases, individual tribe, has its own style and motifs. In my opinion, King Kahuka's mask differs quite significantly from the examples you've provided, most notably because of the ornamentation protruding like horns, as well as, the rather flamboyant plumage sprouting from the centre. That said, it would also be good to inject more images into these discussions to stimulate some visual interest and provide reference for those who aren't familiar with what we're referring to. So here is King Kahuka in all his glory...
  4. I don't have the permissions to authorize attachment space but I can attach them for you. Are these the images you're referring to? http://www.miniland.nl/lego world shows/1991 NL.htm http://www.miniland.nl/lego world shows/1994 NL.htm
  5. You don't happen to have photos you could share with us, by any chance?
  6. At the end of 1993 I went into my Dark Age™ so I was not collecting LEGO sets by the time the Indigo Islanders were released. However, I was still aware of them and I thought it was a cool direction to take the Pirate theme. In fact, in the couple of years prior to their release, I'd postulated how an indigenous sub-theme could be introduced to Pirates, so maybe that's why I was so amicable to their release. BUT! The Indigo Islanders were quite different to what I'd imagined - they were a lot more colorful with all the red, whereas I imagined a more earthly colour scheme. Also, they display a more Polynesian aesthetic whereas I'd envisioned a Mesoamerican decor.
  7. Thanks for sharing that interesting tidbit of information - although I'll admit I was too busy looking out for the pirate scenes.
  8. Eurobricks member, Paokus (or Bricky_Brick as he's known on LEGO Ideas) brings us the first pirated theme submission to gain 10,000 votes - get excited because the project is now officially under review! For more images or updates on the review, visit the Pirate Bay thread in the LEGO Pirates Forum.
  9. Hey, isn't this the first pirate-themed submission to LEGO Ideas to get 10,000 votes? I'm probably a few months months too late (I was busy with work) but this creation is worthy of the Eurobricks frontpage!
  10. I'm unable to view the image, instead I'm seeing a very stretched and pixellated placeholder image reading "Cookies must be enabled" image (see below)- but cookies are enabled in all my browsers. Is it possible to host the intended image elsewhere? <img alt="2" class="ipsImage" height="877" src="http://belay.peeron.com/scans/1563-1/2/" width="621">
  11. I'm not aware of any official confirmation regarding the identity of this minifigure however I assumed it was meant to be Anne, or rather the author of the books based the Anne character on the original pirate wench minifigure. And for those who aren't familiar with what we're referring to, here are some photos/scans.
  12. This is a great way to make yourself look more fearsome to your enemies!
  13. I was not aware you had a LEGO pirates fansite - this is great! I've only had a quick look but it seems "The Golden Sovereign" is not among the names on the list.
  14. An image for the back cover is not present but the Pirates Training Camp image file was incorrectly named, it just "camp" not "campr" so that's been fixed.
  15. Also interesting to note, the comic was also titled "The Golden Sovereign"
  16. Adding to this... Leader of the Imperial Guard (Red Coats) was Admiral Woodhouse. Leader of the Indigo Islanders was King Kahuka. Captain Ironhook appeared as rival captain in 1993. Governor Broadside's niece is named Camilla. The character debuted in the comic 6255 The Golden Medallion but didn't receive a minifigure until 10210 Imperial Flagship. Although there is some conjecture resulting from the similar minifigure in the 2009 set, 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty which some claim is the Admiral's daughter, however, the LEGO Battles video game also names this figure as "Camilla". The Governor minifigure appearing in the 2015 set 70412 Soldiers Fort is not Broadside! The LEGO website gave this figure's name as "Governor Hacienda", although this webpage has been removed, Brickpedia has a page on the figure which retains the information that was available on LEGO.com. Ok, maybe that information doesn't strictly adhere to the "(1989-1990 line)" aspect of the topic title but it's hardly worth creating a new topic for that information.
  17. I do not have any Toy Fair catalogues. But check the first post of this thread, what you seek is now there.
  18. I'll take a look! Except, being 14 years old, the resulting scanned images probably aren't particularly high quality or resolution.
  19. That person may be long gone...
  20. Suddenly this topic becomes relevant again...
  21. Good work for doing this research, @kelceycoe! For those who aren't aware, Brickset has a scan of this booklet. 14 years ago we did have scans of the 1993 Prates souvenir book but it seems the images have long since been removed...
  22. Thank you for providing that information, it may be beneficial to incorporate this into the first post of this thread.
  23. I was unaware fans of classic themes required sympathy... Personally, I have enough LEGO pirate products and quite content if there aren't any future releases. However, like any consumable, consumers are under no obligation to favour the manufacturer's current output and have the liberty to express their opinion, whether that be an in-depth essay or simple reaction.
  24. These scans are fantastic quality! The graphic designer on Reddit reserve a lot of credit and thank you for sharing!
