  1. I had that same thought but it does not appear to be the case. While I do not own that set, from what I can see in inventories and instructions scans, the set is built using an assemblage of Technic parts and does not use the tepee support element at all. So again, I’m at a loss to explain an apparent reddish brown version of the element.
  2. I’m a bit neurotic when it comes to my sets having parts in the correct colors and I’m trying to figure out if the tepee support pole element was only made in old brown or if it was also made in reddish brown… I have four of these pieces. One is definitely old brown. The other three look much more like reddish brown. Every source I can find says that the element was only included in 4 sets and all of these sets predate the introduction of reddish brown. Is this just a dramatic case of color variation and/or discoloration/aging plastic? Or was the element made in reddish brown, and if so, in which set(s)? Any clarification anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
  3. I do try to rotate my B-wing from one side to the other every now and again exactly because I feared warping. I'm not pleased to hear I wasn't just being paranoid. Not a fan of the idea that I'm going to own some expensive warped bricks.
  4. I was surprised to find S16 in a Toys R Us today (Milwaukee, WI area). They only had about a dozen left on the pegs.
  5. That Next Gen set is not new, it's at least a decade old. The new TOS sets look impressive though.
  6. This is definitely my favorite Chima set. I love that it has plenty of places for minifigs to sit (enough for the whole pack) and I love the detaching vehicles. It reminds me of many of the larger G.I. Joe vehicles from back in the day and it's just fun to fidget with. I think the Chima line was under appreciated. It was goofy but fun which is what toys are supposed to be about.
  7. @greg3 The printing on yours is definitely sharper. Thanks for the comparison shot.
  8. I just opened my Phantom set and was dismayed to see that the printing on Chopper's dome is really wonky. The orange line is really uneven (see pic). I tried looking at photos elsewhere on the web and many of those seemed to have off-kilter printing as well. Now I know that Chopper is a bit of a patchwork astromech but is this printing intentional? Is it on every Chopper? I know I could probably get LEGO to send me a replacement part (they've been great about that in the past when printing issues occurred) but I won't bother if the issue is intentional or widespread. I've never had issues with other astromechs although this is my first with this type of dome. Can anyone shed any light on this regarding their own specimens of Chopper? Thanks!
  9. Yes, both the sharks in the photo are old dark gray with pointed noses and no gill slits.
  10. I was just looking through my old LEGO sharks and noticed that there's a variation on the bottom side. I couldn't find anything about this variation on the usual reference sites. Was this a running change to the mold? Did all sharks get changed in a certain year? Can anyone shed any light on this difference?
  11. I found the spider poly at a Meijer in Illinois back in May.
  12. I finally broke down and bought the set last month. Spinlyn is an awesome figure and I do like the rhino bike but the rest of the set is nothing special IMO (and I already had the other two minifigs). Nice parts in nice colors though. I guess it depends on how much you're willing to pay for Spinlyn and if you can find the set on sale (or just buy Spinlyn on BrickLink).
  13. Totally agree with you. I was so excited when the prehistoric tribes were announced and then SO disappointed when the first images appeared. The bone in the trunk is just plain stupid and I also dislike the zombie approach. The only member of the Hunter Tribes I've picked up is Vardy because he has no decay on his head, what's on his torso is covered by his armor and there's just one small spot on his leg. I've swapped his trans blue arm for a regular gray one and also swapped the trans blue armor. I like him much better this way. He doesn't look like a zombie and fits in with the other earlier figures. On a different note, I picked up the LOC Character Encyclopedia and I'm loving the Firox minifig (the book is nice, too).
  14. I went with a sea turtle for my entry: Additional photos here.
  15. Salvagers are a great idea, look forward to seeing them.
  16. Here's my entry for the Tiles or Studs Custom Space Faction Contest: I tried to think of a space theme that hadn't really been done and I came up with construction and thus the Constructonauts were born... The vignette: The MNT-1 Transport delivering beams to the construction site... The minifigs: Two Constructonauts and a construction droid... The MNT-1: Another view of the MNT-1 showing the speeder separating from the carriage... Additional photos here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjZtMV7T
  17. Why are there bones coming out of the mammoths' trunks. Trunks don't contain any bones and it's kind of weirding me out. I'm also not so sure about the random trans parts on the figs. I like the idea of these new tribes but I'm not wowed by what I've just seen.
  18. Although blurry those pics definitely have me interested. Love the idea of the mammoth bigfigs. I'm looking forward to the high quality pics even more now. I think the fire and ice theme is a bit lame but I'm all for some interesting new tribes.
  19. Great idea on the hat. Very novel solution. And I agree about hairless hat figures. I'm glad that LEGO is starting to make hair/hat combo pieces lately. Some characters would just look odd with their trademark hat but without hair.
  20. Very nicely done! I've tried to replicate this ship at a small scale but haven't managed to come up with anything nearly this gorgeous. I absolutely love it. Any chance of instructions?
  21. ianmrid - Love the torso for Molly! (I'm still waiting for LEGO to make the perfect hat, or at least a good hair/hat combo piece for her. Likewise for some official purple hair for Gert.) And nice call on the Chima pieces for Chase's fistigons. That never occurred to me and now I need some. Great work all around!
  22. That is a curious detail and one I don't have an answer for. I don't have the King's Castle and didn't realize it was on a baseplate and therefore not at the right height for the additions. All the castle sets I own from that era are on regular plates (like the Knight's Castle). Nice find though (jealous, I want that King's Castle).
  23. Thanks to all for the comments. I'm glad you think it looks like it belongs in the classic castle theme. I've always wanted that set but never thought I'd get one. I found almost everything minus the minifigs and a few pieces that were easily pulled out of my spare parts collection. I was definitely thrilled to get my hands on it and can understand why it's considered one of the best classic castle sets. I love the little cart, too, and think it really makes the set.
  24. I got really lucky a few weeks back and found an almost complete Guarded Inn at a local thrift store. Finding that set inspired me to build my first classic castle MOC. With all of the horses in the theme there really needs to be a stable, so that's what I built. I tried to work within the constraints of the original sets using only colors and parts that would have been used at the time... Front view without minifigs... Side and back views... And, since it's modular like all good classic castle sets, here it is connected to the Guarded Inn...
