For the Glory of Corrington! An Enduring Free Build Challenge
Bregir replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
It's clearly large enough, you have now joined the faction, and it seems to meet the subject matter. So I do not see why it wouldn't qualify You would need to figure out where to place it. There is a wealth of options, but can you perhaps describe whether it is frontier like or more established colony in style? And where do you want to start your journey? Builds are generally more fun and interesting when they play into your/our larger story. Perhaps start in Arlinsport on Tiberia, our very first and most Western colony?- 191 replies

While I would not wish to step on anyone's toes, might we not point to the following threads: Otherwise I fear we will end up with too many pinned threads?

Welcome to the Colonies, Peter Nash! An architect will be an excellent addition to our ranks, perhaps add a little more style to our colonial buildings! (And since I do not think we have seen an architect before, I would say it is perfectly creative! ) -
I love brick built birds, and this heron is excellent! On top of that, a new approach to the prospecting build - very clever! As to the background, I am undecided. It's better than white, but seems to give some strangeish reflections. Looks a bit like the static backgrounds in older video games!

José's Inn - Ye Olde BoBS Drinking Hole
Bregir replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
All the best for 623, fellow Brick Sea'ers Was considering a new years build, and I think L'Olius may finally have an occasion for a speech, so I can get my big Westface build out there! -
I don't know how I missed this, sorry. Has this been resolved? The crown will be happy to make individual agreements for ships larger than the 6th class.

Interesting thread and great inspiration. Always found rafts rather hard to make look nice. I have made a few myself. Not sure if this exactly counts as a raft. And here a more traditional raft: https://flic.kr/p/21fDZos

Oh no, you didn't... Seems like we may need to have a contest of who can have the most flashy buildings along the waterfront Lovely and active build - the two buildings are very different, but still fit together nicely. -

Another lurking veteran returns, and what a return! First up, a definite GoC from me. She is a well-shaped ship with lovely curves (sheer and tumblehome!) and as someone else said, some very good transitions from hull-pieces to the upper hull, and details like the chains for the rudder, the ornaments above the cabin, and your hatches completes her well. For improvements, you could consider introducing the third split of the mast. Currently, your masts are in two pieces. This would be correct for your mizzen (with the current rig), but the full-rigged masts would have consisted of a lower mast, topmast, and topgallant. Overall, though, the rigging is quite well done, so I am really nitpicking. On the other hand, while I cannot absolutely confirm it, I believe this may be the very first barque ever in BoBS! Introducing an unused sail plan at this point is quite an achievement! -
Happy to see some more science being covered in the world of BOBS. Know that the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy is watching these developments closely, and will be happy to hear more of these discoveries.

If "NPU" was a build... -
"The Labyrinth"? I am intrigued - do we have some Knossos style stuff going on here? Nice battle scene - great fig posing, and as Capt. Wolf says, NPU! I would have loved to see a little more description of what is going on. Is this a small skirmish, recon in force, or the beginning of a big battle?

Lovely little vignette and fun story! I've come to enjoy the shenanigans of the WTC, so while I am not IC happy with you guys at any rate, OOC, certainly happy to have you onboard!

Mesabi, this is excellent. The build in isolation my *only* be very good, but you journey is what makes it excellent. In the past, you have gotten feedback that your ground was too bland, your walls too flat, the build overall too simple. And then you come back with excellent wallwork, irregular base, and some good landscaping. On top of that, you manage to write a genuinely amusing story, playing well into the history of the count, and that without stepping on anyone's toes. Bloody great work, sir. PS. Happy to see the irregulars get a spot in the spotlight too!

She is a beauty. I particularly like the way you have made s custom hull while integrating the prefab bow piece. Really well done! She's got beautiful curves too, both tumblehome and sheer, and as usual the rigging is excellent. I would place her as a rather late period vessel, although she carries that rather old-fashioned lateen on her mizzen. Any thoughts behind this? Also really happy to see a well-written story that places her well within the world of bobs. Would like to see some more details described, and as always, some minifig life, but overall, this is excellent. Also cool squadron view at the end! -

Given that we are fairly strict on the size requirements for a royal, any shortcomings could easily be addressed by one or more smaller additional builds from other builders. -

Good to have you back, sir! And thanks for the call-out to BoBS! If some day, we could have a BoBS collab at one of these conventions, that would be great fun! -

The Seawatch Campaign - Coordination Thread
Bregir replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Irregular light infantry on patrol around Seawatch, looking for the Lotii forces. -
The relieving force sent to Seawatch consisted of many regiments, including some irregular auxiliary troops recruited amongst the frontiersmen of the colonies. As civilisation creeps further and further East, some look for ways to follow the ever-shifting boundary of the known world. One of these ways is to serve in the irregular light infantry attached to line regiments. As light infantry forces are often in short supply and an essential capability in frontier warfare, these auxiliary companies has become a way for regular regiments of the line to shore up their recon and screening forces. One such company is currently patrolling the hinterland of Seawatch, looking for signs of the enemy, ways to confound his plans, and potentially to harass his lines of supply and communication.

Excellent looking bomb-ship! You do wonders with the bricks in terms of hull shaping, combining sheer, tumblehome, etc. Many nice deck details too, such as the skylight, hatches, and of course the bombard itself. One thing that looks nice but may not be entirely accurate is the three part masts. I do not think a ketch would in reality have topgallant masts (but instead have two-part schooner masts), but this is really nitpicking. The only real criticism I have is the lack of minifigs aboard. It ends up looking more like a schematic, than a real life scene, which is a bit of a shame. Excellent vessel all around, though! -
Lovely tree, particularly the rope thingy that gives the impression of some vines or similar overgrowing it. And the gun is excellent, with the added bonus that it is actually stuck - excellently depicted!
-
As always, your use of colour is just superb. The lavender flowers, bright green tree and dark blue roof gives a really nice contrast to the more earthen colours of the house and landscape. A definite from me for GoC. And good to see some screen time for the RSNP too. I remember once starting a domed observatory, but couldn't really make it work and gave up. I think I will need to give it another go at some time.
-
Excellent looking trees, in particular the pine. The stream is well built too, although some of the stream blends a bit too much into the shore, with transparent pieces on both sides of the dirt. The good major also seems to have lost his company somewhere The landscaping is nice too. I like the snot work.
