Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
No money will come out of thin air. Example: Trador may have a trade value of 200, and a raid may be calculated to loot 150 of these. In your accounts is 0, which is then brought down to -150. The question is then who is to cover it, because in BoBs, an account is not allowed to be negative. Either the expenses must be cut, or someone has to pay the difference. By the rules, we may decide this is to be paid by the faction if not covered elsewhere, but internally, the faction may well decide to require the mayor to cover it, for not protecting the settlement properly, for instance. You are assuming we design the rules so they can be gamed. We will do our best to avoid this, and anyone found to be acting against the spirit of the rules will be politely (at first ;) ) asked to correct their behaviour. All of this is still being developed, but what I have outlined above seems a very obvious way to avoid the sort of manipulation you are suggesting. -

That only a certain number counts for the EGS is not the same as saying that there are not residences for all residents. You are the one saying our player built additions are only part of a whole, so why do you insist on a literal reading in this specific spot? ;) The court made a ruling here. Bringing it up again is pointless, so please refrain from this. Good point. I tend to agree, and will suggest we raise the price somewhat (although probably not to full Royal price). Hmm, to me it is all the same, but you do have a point. Not if raid value is determined by for instance trade value, and not by how much is in the account. -

I think Legostone and/or Genaro and/or prhed can help you, so if you send a lcommon pm to them, I am sure they will be obliging. -

I think if it is residential, covers 10000 studs, and is of sufficient quality, it would qualify. -
You are welcome :)

I am actually not sure how raid gains are calculated currently, as the rules are somewhat in a limbo. But it is meant to be a significant cost. On the other hand, we do not want to encourage too many forts (hence the price increase) - so it is a complex balance. As you should. We will of course review this, and no faction should be left undefended. -

It is most specifically not coming out of thin air. It is taken from the raided faction. :) So it seems there is a misunderstanding here or that something is unclear? Look at the bright side: Everyone will have to pay for fortresses. We in fact made this rule to make fortresses less attractive, so it would be easier to raid. Neither me, nor the court is out to get you or the SR. I suggest you ask your leadership to bring it up in court, so we can discuss this issue. I can find the exact specification for this, but I believe it is the Royal Wagonway on Cocovia and another royal collab. The BoC is basically just a tool to handle a shared property, and the income is distributed to player accounts in the bank. But case in point, no one has taken money out of the bank since it was established, more or less, because no one has had a need for it. I am not a fan of this - seems a bit like pay-to-win improved ammunition bought in some computer games. When two ships meet, and cannonballs are flying left and right, the rich and poor are truly equals. And it should stay that way, I think. -

This will hopefully limit the number of forts generally, making it more feasible to conduct raids. If the Sea Rats, or any other faction are having problems paying, we will of course look at this, but it hasn't been mentioned in court. There are a lot of money in game overall, but it is true that the SR might not be as wealthy as others. The income from properties and trading are the same for the SR, though, so there is a chance to build up some income. And there are ongoing efforts to make piracy more feasible. To the settlement account. There is a lot of confusion around town banks vs. settlement accounts, it seems. A settlement has an account like every player, and this is not changed. We are changing some of the "free money" generated for a settlement. Raids have not been removed, and raid spoils are now specifically taken from the faction raided instead of out of thin air. You are more than welcome to set up taxes for your ports like OL, ESL, and TER has done. But we want this to be money taken from somewhere, not created out of nothing, adding to inflation. Yes, twice as expensive. There is no economic reward. But there is value in the requirement to level up a city. And yes, we have slashed income - there are generally too much money in game. You may not experience it yourself, but how long did it take to find funding for yours? I didn't see a request reach me, at least. ;) If everyone is rich enough to do everything, we might just as well remove the concept of a currency entirely. There may well be imbalances in how the money is distributed, which I think is more to the point, but again, we are working on a general balancing act and it is a work in progress. We need time both to develop new things, and to see the impact of the things we implement, so we need you guys to have a little patience with us. Interesting suggestion, but keep in mind that we are highly focused on avoiding complicating the rules too much. One thing is the time and infrastructure to handle it, another is making the game accessible for us as players. While the rules you propose in themselves are not super complex, they add to a already very large ruleset. -

As I see it, all your suggestions will simply lead to more income in the long run? And personally, I am directly against non-built assets in a Lego building commmunity. From who? You can trade all the settlements you want (if anyone wants to sell. But see above about non-build assets. We could introduce a price to establish a settlement. Initial investments that needs to come out of the game. I think I will suggest that, but it is a very rare sink, that will only affect few people, and rarely at that. *If* the court decides to take away fictional money for the betterment of the game in some way, I hope and expect that all players will accept it. *If* a faction decides to confiscate your money, you have plenty of IC ways to conduct politics or even use force to oppose them. Two very different scenarios... ;) For the record, in game prizes are already being paid out of existing cash. I seem to remember this has been in place all of era II. While the suggestion definitely have merits, it will not (alone) solve the problem. If many players generally have thousands of dbs, or quickly earn enough to reach /(and stay at) that cap, money are still largely irrelevant, if you ask me. Hence why we are considering how to make it make sense. But the issue is of course that if we allow a return that somehow generates more cash in the long run, we have not solved the problem. ______________________________ It is a complex matter, that we are constantly discussing in court, and something that will be sought addressed over several iterations, as we try to attain a balance. Personally, and something that will probably never be implemented, I think we would all have more fun if all money was removed, and our income slashed, and we had to start from scratch where money was much harder to come by. ;) -

... However, to the stock of money will have to be addressed somehow, and I will stand by this. It is one of my main concerns with the game, and hence also part of my agenda in court. (Which everyone in there will know) But we are also looking at ways to make such a measure meaningful, and perhaps even to some degree voluntary. Examples could be a large expense for the factions that would require the levy of taxes, or anything between confiscation and donation, probably to be determined by the faction. But more on that whenever we know more. -

Agreed. We are constantly working on adjusting the balance of risk and reward in the MRCA, and it has been too profitable. This takes time, and some things may have to be reworked. And yes, hereby I am also saying that it will likely be the trade that will be adjusted. While I am not sure I agree it will be harder for new players to build up, be assured that we are also considering the "stock" of money, not just the "flow". Thanks :) -

The rules are in place as of now when it comes to our actions as players, but it will take some time for the automation team to implement them. We expect it to be in place before the next MRCA. Yes, for now. One way to see it is like a "wonder" in AoE or Civilisation, for instance. It is something built for prestige, and should be considered more of a challenge than an investment. (And a necessity for settlement levelling) But we will be looking into other functions of royals at a later date to give them other non-monetary benefits. Now everything can be balanced evenly, as everything is turn based rather than a mix of turn based and time based. Now you have to look at turns rather than calendar time, regardless of whether you look at troops, ships, or properties. The idea is also that costs for warfare, for instance, is all linked to turns, so so should income. I think those are the new corrected values - and the typo is that 500 has been written instead of 600 in the "by land" topic ;) @Ayrlego No settlements change status based on this. But if a settlement wants to progress to the next level, it has to meet the requirement of that level. So this has no impact on ML before it is about to progress to "Capital City", which is when it will next have to meet these requirements. -

Builds can be licensed in the old world. As location, you give the country it is licensed in. I believe there is a decreased income from these. I see no issue in a lotii presence in Measbi Landing. They are already established as having a quarter in Port Raleigh. What we know so far is that they are chinese inspired, and that they are skirmishing or perhaps even warring with Carno somewhere in the New Haven seas. -
For the record, I am not asking for confessions, just asking you all to be careful in the future ;)

Dear all, A polite request from the MRCA committee. Since the tMRCA lives it life within the wondrous world of spreadsheets, there is a big need for input quality. Each month, perhaps half the time spent on running the MRCA is taken up by correcting input. In short, the computer cannot interpret results, so we have to spend time doing so. A few examples below: If you have named your ship "das Boot", but enter "Boot" in the forms, it will not recognise the ship. (Similarly the other way around) If you have named your ships "Bregir's Ship", but enter "Bregirs Ship" it will not recognise it. If you add extra spaces or signs, or remove them, they will not be recognised. If the ship is a sistership and named "Ship II", "Ship" alone will not register correctly. If a port is named "King's Harbour" and you send in "Kings Harbour", "King's Harbor", "King's Harbour", etc. it will not recognise it. In all of the above and similar cases, we need to make manual adjustments, which of course takes time. So we humbly request that you spend a few more minutes each time making sure your spelling is correct, perhaps looking in the accounts sheets if you are in doubt of spelling or what you actually named your vessel. That way, we can minimise the time we need to spend on running the MRCA's. Of course, some errors will happen, but the fewer, the easier. There are also some who have entered orders to go to ports not in the list above or on the list of hideouts, some even possibly outside the current sea zones. We will contact those players in question for a clarification. On the upside, we are already looking at this months calculations, and with a little luck, you will see them fairly soon (tm). Remember, if you have any stories that you feel should be mentioned in the KPA, send a pm to our favourite editor @Capt Wolf. You can either point out events, and we will word it, or go the extra mile and make a suggested write-up yourself. Just keep in mind the general bias and editorial style of the KPA. Thank you in advance Best regards Bregir

Several ships have been licensed and the fleet list updated. -
One is tempted to say: "Go ahead, make my day... Punk!" But I won't - as that would be tempting fate! I get your point, but having run the MRCA a few times, tried many different stats, and experienced many different results, I really do not believe you can win the MRCA by "programming". Yes, you should be considering whether a small income ($) is worth the cost in firepower (g) for instance, but I actually believe we have managed a very fine balance with the current stats and their impact on results. (I should, though, having championed the system, so I am hardly impartial... )

[SR - FB 1 - Jan 619] The Red Dragon
Bregir replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Seeing this, I am ashamed by my first ship after the dark ages! Very nice shaping - while the inspiration from Destiny's Bounty is clear, it is also obvious that this is a constructionally very different vessel! The colour choices are a bit exotic, but not overly so, and I really like what I am seeing. Considering it is a 9 year old... You have a good advisor at hand for your own ship building! I am hoping to see better pictures of this, and wish it all the best of luck in the Brick Seas. And I think you and your son should think up a story for it too, something I am unfortunately missing on quite a few ships posted here. I must prefer ships with a story and description, and with that and new pictures here, you will lift this post considerably -
It is in our sign up and discussion thread, the post about the navy. There are so many different ships, and you never know which one you will meet, nor which combat tactic will be used. So I see no way to "design" your way out of it/program your stats to optimise results. I think the stats are well balanced, and some ships are better at some things, worse at others. HOWEVER, I brought it up in court, and there was support for keeping them secret.
-
I suggest that stats are simply made public in the account sheet so we all only have 1 place we need to go to?

REVIEW: 80101 Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner
Bregir replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Very nice review and lovely set. I am very sad about the exclusivity of this and other regional sets, though. I would buy this in a heartbeat at anything like normal lego prices - I am not sure I understand Lego's decision here. Maybe we should start a petition to make them available for the lego shop online? ME WANTZ THIS! -
The HMS Badger (currently held in Lavalette, I believe) is no longer in the Corrington fleet list, so I can't help you, but I think you should be able to see it in the SR list? (Not sure how the SR handle availability of that list though)

After seeking out the Olean consul, Montoya now had to find conveyance back to King's Harbour and had made his way to the Jameston docks, where he had found a midshipman of a Royal Navy vessel. "Aye sir, we're off a brig lying in the roads, which will be going west as soon as we've watered and resupplied" the midshipman reported. "And unless new orders have arrived, we are indeed heading for King's Harbour" Turning to a sailor, he barked: "Take care with those barrels, Johnson - we don't want them spilling good rum now, do we?" and back to Montoya: "Beggin' yer pardon, sir. Requirements of the service and all that... We can find room for you, your assistant and limited dunnage in the boat. I am sure the capt'n 'll accommodate you shipboard, sir." "Just be back here this at 2 this afternoon, and I'll take you out" __________________________________________________________ Overall shot of the build. I think this warehouse/dock will be licensed as a commerce in Jameston, while I might license the boat as a class 1. C&C is, as always, welcome.
