  1. @Ayrlego I think you already have plenty of my characters, and they'd be happy to attend
  2. Absolutely stellar work all around, and kudos to @Darnok for organising!
  3. I may try to build something, but can't commit to anything as of now. If I get it done, consider it a back-up build :) Any size restrictions? (min/max)
  4. Another sloop for the Royal Navy, the HMS Silverthorne.
  5. Captain, I get your sentiment, and agree indeed, but let's keep rl politics out of BoBs all we can :) Also, the views of c(o)unt Mesabi is his own, and does not (necessarily) reflect the official policy of Corrington in any way! :P
  6. Big task to organize, but sounds fun. Back-up builds may be good to have handy. A stronger common theme, or potentially story could be worth considering. Merry Christmas Forthcoming
  7. @Bodi, @Captain Genaro Westface Terraversa Oct. 620 AE To the representatives of His Most Sacred Majesty, King Philip I It is my solemn duty to inform you that Corrington now considers itself at colonial war with Oleon. In September 620, off Nola Mar, Terraversa, an Olean squadron under flagship La Recouvrance offered battle to the Royal Navy squadron (flagship HMS Greyhound) conducting legitimate inspections in search of a missing, presumed captured, Royal Navy Captain. Later, it has become blatantly obvious that the subterfuge and revolting rabble in Nola Mar was by the hand of King Philip I, and that the squadron was part of this outrageous endeavour to overthrow the independence of the free, neutral nation of Terraversa, adding insult to injury, Let it be known that Her Majesty's Royal Navy cannot accept such interference with its legitimate operations, and that such acts of war has left Her Majesty with no choice but to take direct action. Hence, captains and army commanders will by now be opening secret orders all across the Brick Seas, detailing this development and instructing them to take actions accordingly, including, but not limited to, to take, sink, or burn any Olean vessels, prepare for defensive and offensive action, and render any possible aid to the Terraversan cause. Further, I am instructed to convey Her Majesty's, and Her Government's, most intense protests against the dastardly, unprovoked assault upon the free, neutral nation of Terraversa. Attacking without a declaration of war, without a legitimate casus belli, and without provocation, acting only in narrow national interest, is a dishonourable act worthy of nothing but disdain. In respect of now dormant mutual diplomatic efforts to establish lasting peace between our nations after a history of warfare, no hostilities will be initiated in the old world, although all units are on high alert and will oppose any incursions into Corlander Territory. In Her Majesty's Service, don Isaac Montoya Consul, Terra Nova __________________________ Iacta alia est - IC we are outraged - OOC this could be fairly exciting!
  8. Say W0000000t - are you declaring war on every nation in the Brick Seas! Nice build, NOD, and good to have a volunteer for TV. There are some learnings from this as to what is the expected approach, but for the first defense build, and for an NPC, it is a very good start.
  9. It's always a question about whether the source talks of length of hull, keel, gundeck, or overall. wikipedia isn't all too consistent either. Definitely something to keep in mind.
  10. They do seem bit chubby, but what you will find if you look up dimensions of the age of sail is that they are typically between 1:3 and 1:4 in beam vs. length, with the smaller vessels often trending towards the chubbier end of the spectrum. (Also depending on type of vessel of course - see below on the cutty sark) That said, these do look like they have been "toyified" a bit, but it is really hard to make out from the pictures, as it may just be thwarted perspectives. I don't think you would go too wrong basing something off these, although if in doubt, you may want to err on the side of length, rather than width. I typically go for about 1:4. How do you figure this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Bonhomme_Richard_(1765) Length: 46 m (or 152 fahrenheit, if you like to drink your stupid juice by the imperial gallon ) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Victory Length: 69 m (186ft) Those two are from roughly the same period. (In fact build the same year) It seems like we may be talking about two different ships? From what I can see on wikipedia, it seems like a perfectly normal distribution of armament for a frigate equivalent? Cutty Sark and the other later clipper ships are quite different, as they were build for one purpose alone: Speed, and lots of it. They were carrying high value cargo, and being the first to reach home would be awarded with enourmous profits. This means sleek hulls, (relatively) low weight, and loads of sail area. So there are not really representative of the ships, particularly not the warships, of the period. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutty_Sark Her ratio is a rather extreme 1:5.9 Even HMS Endymion, the fastest frigate of the time, clogged in at 1:3.7
  11. Thank you all for the fine words! The sleekness of the hull is exactly what fascinates me with the Mediterranean ship types - they are so very flimsy in a very elegant way, compared to the opulence of Spanish ships, the practicality of British ships, and the elegance of the French. I think is one if one of my finer examples of the bend bricks technique, as the tartan hull allowed me to make it with only three sides, so to speak. And the bowsprit integration worked very well too, something than can sometimes be hard to achieve. Why, thank you sir! Generally, with my building cadence and my attachment to my vessels, they end up being in the works for very long, and then survive a great deal of time afterwards too. Generally, most of the bend is based on 2x1 and 3x1 plates, which means it only gives a moderate stress to individual bricks, as most of the bend is in the joints. (In reality similar to the 2x1 brick, 1x1 round brick round tower technique) I have some larger ships in the works with bent sides, but again it is distributed. The challenge is really making the overall structural integrity high enough. I know Legostone made some tests in some very heavily bent bricks, and just like me, he didn't find much lasting damage. It may from time to time cost a 1 by X plate or two, but in general I find that form and clutch power is maintained. Thanks. I think you are thinking of "binnacle"? I see your point - hadn't thought of it that way. Consider the tan the tarpaulin under the grating... :P
  12. Perfect example of "less is more" - this scene really conveys to me the emotions involved in sending someone off to war. Reminds me of leaving for my own tour of duty, even if that was a lot less dangerous than an invasion of my homeland!
  13. It seems Oleon has made us all panic with their sneaky, ungentlemenlike and backhanded assault on Terraversa!
  14. Unit Name: 3rd Regiment of Life Guards 'The Winged Cuirassiers' Unit Type: Heavy Cavalry Picture: Description: The Winged Cuirassiers is is one of the three Life Guard Cavalry Regiment of Corrington, and serves as protectors of the Crown, both as lifeguards and as extended arms of the regent. The Winged Cuirassiers recruit solely from gentlemen and part of their service time consists of classical education. Often, former cuirassiers will go on to become prominent public servants. As a military unit, the Winged Cuirassiers is a heavy cavalry regiment, and their charge is a fearsome sight to behold, and few can stand the onslaught of heavily armed and armoured men on heavy destriers reminiscent of the age of knights in full armour. Armed with heavy lances doubling as great battle axes, greatswords, and carbines, they are at home on the charge. Nonetheless, these soldiers are also trained and able to fight as heavy infantry when called upon. Links (optional): Raising troops in King's Harbour Barracks in King's Harbour NB: I will see about removing the background on the picture at a later time.
  15. Task 1: Redcoats rule: 3rd Regiment of Life Guards 'The Winged Cuirassiers' Cavalry Just realised it does not meet the 20x20 minimum :)

This is a build for the redcoats rule,(just realised it does not meet the 20x20 minimum) for the compendium of troops, and a troop raising build for 90 new cuirassiers in King's Harbour. With all the war going on, Cocovia must be defended!
  17. Tailor's shop (small artisan) opened in King's Harbour.
  18. King's Harbour, being one of the early Corlander colonies, is civilising by the day. And as civilisation creeps in, the finer crafts find their place, amongst these this high-end tailors recently opened. In the shop, an interesting new invention, a so-called sewing machine helps the tailor make consistent, high quality seems with high efficiency. Fitting rooms, rolls of cloth in various colours, and other implements are part of the trade. This small artisan should bring King's Harbour to large city. Not my finest build, but the sewing machine came out nice, and I quite like the exterior too.
  19. I think Corrington will happily support the expedition with a contingent of scientists, and trade routes for mutual benefits sounds perfectly reasonable. How such a bonus is manifested in the EGS I am sure we can figure out base don what the outcome and exploits of the expedition ends up being. As for the Tam administration, I am perfectly overjoyed with your depiction. There seems to be a bit of confusion as to some locations, though - we consider this island the isle of Tam, while Yeldo is placed on an island much farther east, north of Mardier. Have I missed some source material, perhaps? Or may you have misunderstood something?
  20. Task 3: The Merchant Marine - Hydra tartan Exotic rigging type, class 4.
  21. It has been long since al'Sayeed arrrived in his homeland of Pan, and little is known of his exploits. However, recently a vessel has arrived in King's Harbour captained by one of the Papadopoulos brothers and bearing news from the lands far away. The vessel is a large tartan (class 4) of Paniote origin and can best be described as a mix between a warship and a trader. For most Paniote sailors, the line between corsair and merchant is defined very loosely and depends mainly on the relative strength of a sighted ship. Armed with 10 4-pounders it has the firepower of a small navy sloop, and the rather dangerous looking crew is likely to stand up to the shenanigans of any minor privateer. Hassana, Pan September, 620 AE To Consul don Montoya, Honourable master. I can only apologize for my long absence, and hope you shall forgive me. Matters of the most critical nature as pertaining to my family business detains me yet in my homeland, but I trust that the Hydra shall serve as a small compensation in my stead. It has long served my father, and after having been appropriated by my thieving, scheming step brother, I have managed to reclaim her by... means I shall not discuss here. May she serve the estate well. At your service Ibn al'Sayeed ________________________________ An entry for the GoC task 3: The Merchant Marine. It is a class 4, and should tick the box for "historical or exotic rigging type", and will not be given to the crown.
  22. Atwi guerillas are attacking Olean patrols on Terraversa.
  23. Having escaped from his captivity under allegations of spying, Cooke has started making his way back to Westface and his squadron. Dodging fights between the Olean invaders and Terraversan defenders, he has managed to get into the hinterland, where he made contact with (or rather, was surprised by...) a group of Atwi guerillas. The Atwi guerillas agreed to help him onwards towards Westface, although insisting that he first assist them with a small task involving an Olean Patrol. Luckily, there is going to be no witnesses to tell the tale of a Corlander naval officer attacking forces of Oleon...
  24. The build does not have to show the strategy per se. It could be a tent with some officers discussing it, and then a description of said strategy. We are not looking for great heavy builds. There is typically a two-week deadline on a defence build, and we don't want land combat to be too cumbersome. A build is necessary though. Hoep that answers - sorry for not coming back earlier, but your tag didn't work properly. Is your friend planning a build? I think we can be a bit lenient on the deadline this time, as the rules are new. But we can discuss this with your friend.
