    I always thought of 4360 as a space bazooka as a kid. 3839a looked like a sensor or antenna to me on the classic space sets, but like guns on the Blacktron II cockpits and other sets later on.

    Classic Space was actually kind of militaristic after the initial wave with sets like 6950, 6940, 6983, etc. It was like Lego's interpretation of Star Wars.

    Nice model, but the US price is ridiculous and the same as the tow truck. It would have been a good set for $80-90, not $150. The dark gray cylinders are neat though and I can see several uses for them in space models where the yellow would not fit in.

    Yes there are a lot of random colors on the inside, although I find it doesn't detract from the build. It's worse in Technic sets where the colors are visible from the outside.

    Is one copy of the set enough to build both of the smaller models, or do you need two of them?

    I just finished building this. It's a fantastic build in so many ways and the ramp design is especially clever. I love all the printed parts that evoke different classic prints, especially the Blacktron signal on the radar. The only thing I don't like is the new MABS plastic for windscreens and trans parts. It looks and feels quite different from PC, and scratches more easily. Still, I plan to pick up a couple more copies of the set for parts. It's pretty cheap for how much you get with it.

    I'm a digital native too and don't mind electronic instructions. I think at some point they will stop making printed instructions altogether, except for UCS/architecture/etc. sets where the instructions are part of the experience. However, they should be accessible without apps (which often don't work forever) and be good quality scans. The pdf instructions on the Lego site have always been low quality, maybe to prevent copying.

    Agreed, tiles are generally more useful than printed slopes or bricks, especially since you can always set them at an angle to get the same look as slopes. I hope they offer that tile on Bricks and Pieces (or whatever it's called now), so we can get them in decent quantity.

    Part of it is that Lego as an adult hobby is way more mainstream and popular today than it was 10-20 years ago, and the company explicitly targets adults with a lot of sets now. All the social media channels, youtubers, Lego Masters, etc. have also contributed to the popularity of Lego. I would guess there are maybe 100-1000x as many AFOLs worldwide today compared to back then, and it's a great thing in my view, regardless of whether they are more into sets or mocs. I've been in a couple of LUGs and they have had their share of infighting (like any social group), but all were oriented towards mocs and shows. I just ignore the politics and engage with the people I like. The free Lego stuff is nice but not what I'm there for, I can easily afford any Lego I want. I used to collect sets in the past too, and bought a lot of vintage MISB sets off ebay back in the day. I would buy more with all the great sets they are releasing now, but only have so much time for the hobby. I have always had a bunch of sets I bought but never built, and my collection is already too big and hard to manage, especially since I tend to move every few years for work. I still buy 2 or 3 large sets and several small ones every year.

    Agreed, this is a great year for space fans. I plan to only get the Galaxy Explorer and Lightyear ship, but the city space sets are great in their own right too.

    I don't see how they can ban what others do after they buy the product. Are they trying to make it like a software license where you only license the right to use the minifig in predefined ways? I doubt that would hold up in any court.

    I actually got more into mocs as I got older. New sets are nice but I've seen a lot over the years in terms of sets, and new sets rarely excite me. The mocs are what keep me engaged in the hobby. As for other social media communities, I'm on Flickr and a couple of Discords (and Lugnet way back in the day), but never used FB/Instagram or Tiktok. I prefer forums over any of those social media sites that track your behavior. Lego social media has always been fragmented across several different places. At least with Flickr, people who are not registered there can see the mocs.

    The tires don't really degrade, but leave a slimy residue on other parts in the bags them come in. I've seen it on tires from roughly 1995 or 2010 or so. You can remove this stuff using alcohol. Some 1980s tires are made of a different material and are harder and not slimy, but eat into baseplates if left on them for a long time, just like in that picture above. I've seen that happen on a few sets, but not all of them.

    They do appear to be printed. That 2x4 tile looks awesome. I agree about the tail wing, something about it looks out of place. It's too flat compared to the rest of the ship.

    Looks great, I like how you used that death star piece It does look kind of Blacktron-ish with the legs though, and might be even better in full Blacktron colors.

    Yes, this has just the right level of detail. The exo suit was good but didn't feel like a classic space set, but this one really does. I would have liked to see the ground base though, even if they don't have baseplates.

    All the 6-wide windscreens generally allow for that. I did it in this moc and the Speed Champions sets do it too.

    That looks beautiful, I'm definitely getting one or two of them. They even have that robot from the XT-5 and Droid set, and I see a bunch of the classic printed compters in it. I was kind of hoping we would get a new trans windscreen though.

    I love that swashplate design. It's the first time they have ever had a full cyclic+collective one, although the parts for building it yourself have existed for a long time. I did it on one of my mocs. I'm not a fan of the look either. The cockpit looks way too small compared to the rest of it. 9396 and its alternate model (which is the better model IMO) look much nicer.

    Great thread. I keep an eye out for these parts too. I picked up the Lightyear ship partly for that windscreen. It's a clear shout out to classic space fans. Those trans neon green windows and the trans red windscreens are fantastic. I'll get some as soon as they show up on Bricklink. The hardest color to find these days is trans-green. The other colors all appear occasionally in sets, but large pieces in trans-green largely disappeared after 2000.

    This looks better than any of the previous cars IMO, due to the larger wheels. The wheels always looked too small on the older cars, but here they look nicely proportioned. I actually really like these cars and think they are a worthy addition to Technic. However, they are just too similar to each other in terms of mechanics. I have the Chiron and love it, but don't see myself getting more of them unless they add substantial new functions. Something like working brakes would be a great addition. I don't see the point of the new gears though. They add nothing over the existing double bevel gears, and don't even look as strong as those.
