  1. I'm normally not a Star Wars MOCer, but the Podracer contest over on FBTB was just too fun to resist. So, I thought I would combine a podracer with one of my favorite themes: Pirates, and this came out. Speeding in from the tropical islands comes the Coconut Pod, ready for the big race! More pictures in the Flickr set. Thanks!
  2. Great MOC Talon Karrde. I really love the broken-down dock, and the little shacks at the back. Good work with the water as well. I also find that I don't really have sufficient blue tiles to make large expanses of water. The SNOT style allows big bricks to be used, thus covering larger areas with few pieces.
  3. Hearty congrats LuxorV! You're doing a top-notch job here.
  4. I have to disagree with you there. I think the Granite Grinder is an excellent set. It's certainly not fragile, and the design in my opinion is almost the best in the Power Miners line. It has some good parts too. For a City set, I would go for the Coast Guard Heli, or the Combine Harvester. Both are great looking sets with some nice play features.
  5. Nice entry idea Xbor. One of my favorite parts is the shark hanging on the wall. It really stands out. The monkey jumping down is also fun. Lastly, good work with the barrel shelf. It seems to have a very nice design. Improvement Suggestions: 1) Very minor point, but I'm not a big fan of the pony tail on the pirate walking down the stairs. Perhaps something more "manly" would be better. 2) I think adding a fireplace somewhere would be a great idea, so the pirates can have some baked fish and keep their toesies warm. 3) Placing some goblets on the floor with a plume coming out the side to give the effect of spilled drink would be nice. 4) Instead of that little brown table in the center, maybe something a bit larger would be nice. Then you could even put some turkey legs, sausage, some other food items there. ============================================ You have started this quite nicely, and with a few touch-ups here and there it'll be even better! Good work, and best of luck to you in the contest!
  6. Stunning work Hinck! I really like the new website as well. I wish you the best of luck in future projects! May I ask what exactly the certified builder program is?
  7. He got rid of it Broadside. That looks much better Infomaniac. It seems much more "finished" now. The chandelier looks excellent, and the added tiles on top clean that part up nicely. Improvement Ideas: 1) I think tiling the sides of the SNOT areas would suit the rest of the smoothness well. 2) A little budle of wood next to the fire would be a nice detail ==================================== Excellent work improving your entry. Good luck!
  8. I thought it resembled a head of some sort, but I still feel plain would fit in better.
  9. Very nice entry Infomaniac! You've packed in lots of nice detail, for example that lovely globe, the shelf with books, and the fireplace. Good job with the SNOT deck, it looks very smooth and the colors are very appropriate. My favorite part though is the uptight officers planning their battle. Great torso and head choices, especially using Henry Jones Sr.'s outfit. Improvement ideas: 1) Just a minor thing, but that rat on the side is just a bit odd. But I think he would look great somewhere on the lower level. 2) With the current pictures you have, there aren't any that really show the lower level. I would include one that shows that important part of your entry. 3) The top part just seems a bit unfinished to me with the inverted slopes showing and such. I would maybe build the walls up one more brick, which would probably make it look a bit neater. Then you could even tile it if you want. 4) I can't help but feel that the brown whips and triangle clip on top of the fireplace look a bit out of place. I think just leaving the black parts of the fire would be better. ============================================== That's all for the upper section. I can give you some more feedback on the lower part when we see a clear picture of it. Excellent work on this, and best of luck to you!
  10. Good job with the deeplinking and resizing! You could have them up to 800 x 600, but this size is fine as well. Your entry looks pretty nice! There are some nice details like the crossed swords over the map and the sinister-looking skull and crossbones on the wall( good idea there). Good job tiling the floor, it makes your entry a lot smoother. The plume acting as liquid spilling out looks excellent as well. Non-MOC related improvement suggestions: 1) Firstly, I would recommend writing a little backstory, so that viewers know what's going on in your entry. Just something short would be fine, as long as it explains the basic concept. 2) For your pictures, taking them against a white background (some large pieces of white paper or posterboard work great) and using the macro feature on your camera if you have it should make your pictures much sharper and brighter. MOC-related improvement suggestions: 1) The pirates don't really look like they care too much that the soldiers are stealing their loot. Perhaps using some angry, concerned faces would work better. The Power Miners sets have some good ones. 2) You could possibly make your entry a bit larger, so there's more room for design elements and details, but that's up to you. 3) A torch or lantern might look nice on one of the walls. You could use a design like in the pirate sets, a trans-yellow round 1 x 1 brick inside a black palm tree holder, with a dish on top. ===================================================== That's about it for now. You have a nice start on this, and with some better pictures and perhaps a little change here and there, it'll turn out great! Good luck for the contest! EDIT: It looks like you've added a story now, so don't pay attention to suggestion number 1.
  11. Lovely work! It really puts me in a good mood when I see it, nice and cheery.
  12. Make sure you re-size them first. Preferably to 800 x 600. If they're larger than 800 x 600 you will be DQ'ed, so make sure to get that in order.
  13. Probably, but you should still make sure to deep-link them with that tutorial.
  14. The screwdriver idea sounds quite good. I'll have to try that out sometime. Thanks for your helpful tidbits!
  15. Ah, that makes a bit more sense. That sometimes happens to me, and then I break out my old friend Google. Since the candelabra's candles are upside-down, I wasn't sure what piece should use. In the end I just left it. Any suggestions?
  16. Thanks Fluyt and 74louloute! It is quite stable 74louloute, but when I keep it up on display I put a small support in the corner just in case. Fluyt, with the lower wall hanging, I used the pieces I did sort of to tie in the black and white stripes from the rug and bed upstairs with the zebra print, and the gold frame to match the other gold pieces I had used for detail. I rather like it, but to each his own. Many thanks for your great feedback!
  17. That is hysterical! "It's odd actually, everything seems to fit in my hand perfectly!" "Oh yeah, I've built a lot of stuff, an imperial flagship, a monorail space transport." That was awesome.
  18. That's nothing short of brilliant. Great crisp animation, good lighting and a fun idea. The best brickfilm I've ever seen. You sir, get a .
  19. Broadside, I would recommend giving your entry some sort of name, to stir up more interest. CC entry doesn't really excite the eye much. Of course, it's your choice.
  20. Thanks for the great feedback SlyOwl, I enjoyed seeing your ideas. I'll try to respond to as many as I can, there are so many. I just wanted it to hide under the rug, because that seemed to be a great place to hide a door. Like I said to Guss, I wanted to do just the round 2 x 2s, but I ran out. I'm still rather fond of the different types, I feel it adds some contrast, but I see your point for sure. For this MOC, I checked the realism at the door. Good ideas though. I like the idea of more space, but I have to say I like the barrel design. I wanted to have 2 different styles of barrel. I definitely agree with this. I got a bit obsessed with using that hair. There are wicks, the black lever tops... Yeah, I agree that they aren't perfect, but I didn't have dark green ones and I though tan looked better than black or red. Good point, but I don't think it's a huge deal. I wanted him to give his full physique to the camera. There's not enough jewels for you already? Thanks for all of the feedback, I'll be sure to keep them in mind for the future.
  21. This is the section of the rules on description. I look forward to seeing your entry!
  22. Nice interview guys! I think this is a great idea, and I would love to see more in the future.
  23. I look forward to seeing some reviews from you Guss!
  24. Ah, I see what you mean. That was actually my original plan, just the round 2 x 2's, but unfortunately I didn't have enough, so I improvised a bit. In a way it makes it look more interesting with not so much repetition. Thanks for your feedback!
  25. Thanks so much guys! I'm glad you like it. Thanks GA! I left most of the furniture untiled so that either minifigs could sit on them (like the chair) or the table so things like the plates would stay on better. I also though it might be nice to have a few studs for some contrast, Glad you like it Cap'n. Like I said, I left the table untiled so things could stay on it better. Many thanks buddy! I'll let you in on a little secret, only 1 of the torsos is actually just yellow. The other ones are all old pirate tank tops turned backwards. Don't tell anyone! While I agree with you on the roof point, I wanted to tile it so it matched the rest of the tiles. If they want a roof on top they'll have to manage. Thanks for your comments Guss. May I ask what you don't like about the walls? Just for future reference. Anyway, thanks again everyone for your comments!
