LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 poll
Etzel replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I voted for the Gladiator, I'm a fan of historical minifigs and it looks like a really good minifig with detailed prints and helmet. And the gladius short-sword is a really nice new piece. Runner ups for me was the British Guard, the army builder of this series, and the Egyptian Queen/Cleopatra, another great historical minifig that will fit great with the S2 Pharaoh. My least favourite is the Dwarf, too similar to the Fantasy Era dwarves, and the Mafia guy, only the violin case is interesting to me (and I would much rather have a violin! ). Overall this series is really good. I like most of the minifigs but there aren't many that I want multiples of (which is good for my wallet). I would rank this series third overall(from first to last: S4, S2, S5, S1, S3). 4 complete series for me, and I plan to continue to collect these minifigs. I think they are the best idea TLG has produced during this decade. Edit: WF, my vote changed when you put in the "0 complete series"-option. I fixed my vote but I think AoNZ's changed too, from 2 to 1. -

Yes, as you said, the plastic can appear a bit different in the legs mainly. But that's no quality issue as I see it. It's hardly noticeable and doesn't effect the building experience. I don't worry at all about the durability, nothing so far has suggested that the Chinese made minifigs are less durable and I don't see any reason why to worry if we haven't even got a clue about it. -

The "girly" theme has been discussed for quite a while in the town sub-forum: link. I suggest you continue there -

I think it's the same as the sumo wrestlers trophy, that bronze colour that Bricklink calls Copper. But it's hard to see, in some pictures it looks like medium dark flesh/medium nougat (as the Spartan's shield) and in some it looks almost like dark tan. But the bronze colour feels like the most plausible to me, and the one I personally think would work best. -

yeah, I know there are lot of different materials. I meant that ABS is what is used for all LEGO minifigs (not including hairpieces and such like). The discussion was about however the Chinese-made minifigs were of ABS or not and I wanted to make clear that they are. Anyway, if people got problems about the quality of their CMs they should take that with TLG's customer service. This topic is about the fifth series so we can't really make comments about the quality in that one yet, right? -

Seriously people, take some time to think over and check your statements before posting them. 1. the black marking on the torsos neck has nothing to do about getting the head to stick on better. It's a remain from the time it was needed to identify the front of a torso for the machines that put arms on the torsos. If you have a collectible minifig that has a loose head it's because of individual variation, that happens also among other minifigs. 2. The collectible minifigs are also made of ABS, it's the same type of plastic for all LEGO. The small, small differences that sometimes has been spotted is probably caused by some variation in colour pigments or the molds (causing a different surface that reflects the light different). I find the talk about inferior Chinese-made products quite prejudiced and niggling. This far I still haven't seen anything that suggests that the CMs are inferior in quality. Small exceptions can be found but that's not exclusive to the CMs. So, quality-wise I have nothing against TLG producing in China. -
oh crap, that's reddish brown! I thought it looked like dark brown on the earlier photos I don't think there will be any Cars sets for me, the dark brown was what sparked a tiny interest for me but now it's lost. Well, well, lesson learned.

Thanks Rufus, that was a great review! I really like the CREATOR houses, I got the three latest (not counting this) and I hope TLG keep them coming. This one however doesn't really do it for me. It's mostly the colour scheme that turns me off, white and red aren't colours I'm that interested in. And overall I feel like there are too many and too bright colours in this set. What I do like about this set is the 16x16 plates. Since TLG is putting less and less baseplates in sets nowadays (at least that's the feeling I got) it has become more common to build on normal plates. But if you want to build big it takes a lot of plates just to make a base for your build. These big plates will help a lot in this and I like that we get them in useful colours like green and grey. And I like to display my Collectible Minifigs on those 16x16 plates, one series fits good on one plate. So, a good set, certainly for kids and others who wants basic bricks to start MOCing. But I don't think I'm going to buy it, too many other good sets are coming out soon.

Ooh, is tow truck in dark brown? Then it's lots of new useful parts in that great colour! And that light green colour, is that a new one? Might be useful. I do hope for stickers instead of printed parts, more versatile in MOCing.

Well, there was this set too: Dragon Knights Battle Pack, but I think it sold out pretty fast (got one myself though).

+1 to Kenny Thanks for a good trade! -
The Sailor has been assigned to lookout duty with his friend. As the great steamship continues its journey across the Atlantic ocean during the cold night they together keep watch through their spyglasses. Suddenly the Sailor's friend gives up a cry! - Iceberg, straight ahead! Flickr link The ship is obviously designed after Titanic but I'm sure there are a lot of details missing or wrong so lets call it "Titanic-inspired" This is the one of my Series 4 MOC that I'm most pleased with, and it was a really fun build too. I hope you like it too Here are links to my previous Series 4 MOCs, please check them out: The Werewolf, the Gnome, the Viking and the Surfer Girl.

The team sports minifigs (baseball, football and hockey players) sure are interesting to get several of. I would count the Cheerleader in that category too. But you don't need unlimited numbers of them, a full team and maybe some supporters is usually enough. I didn't had much in getting a full team of Cheerleaders or Baseball players (I guess it's a bit too American for me) but now I'm working on getting a full football team (10, goalkeeper usually has different outfit) and hockey line (6 including goalie). So yeah, those are nice minifigs to have plenty of but maybe not hundreds like the Spartan... (I'm quite pleased with my 10 though). Good point! With 3rd parties pieces and customization you can get a very variable and awesome elf army. But I prefer to build with only LEGO's own products and in their original shape and colour. I personally find it more fun and challenging that way. And I find the Elf more personal and individual in its design, not only with the hair but also the torso print. It works well as a standard army too, but to me it looks more like an outfit for an alone ranger or small elite guard. That is of course just my personal thoughts and I understand completely all that thinks different but I think that is a trait that the Elf shares with the Forestman and the Musketeer. They aren't "common" enough for me, if you get what I mean. Therefore I prefer minifigs like the Spartan and the Samurai (but this one is hard finding good heads for) for large army building purposes.

The Surfer girl should definitely had chosen another beach. "Ehww, let's go somewhere else!" A smaller MOC this time. I was limited by the trans-medium blue 8x8 plates, they set the size of the MOC. But I promise to make up for it in the next one (it's going to be much bigger and better). Please check out my previous Series 4 MOCs: The Werewolf, the Gnome and the Viking
-
The Spartan. It's definitely the army builder minifig of all the series. IMO the Elf is too individual for army building purposes, everyone gets the same hair. But the Spartan it's easy to just change the head and you can got as many different soldiers as you got heads. And an army consisting of spearmen looks better then one of archers IMHO

Thanks! I haven't. Mostly because I don't have any PF stuff I did however think about adding strings and sticks to the dragon that would indicate that it was manually controlled by some off-stage crew, but it didn't turn out as I wanted so I skipped that. No, it's actually quite simple. The only hard part was the top of the "frame" where I had to come up with an unusual solution. Otherwise it's a fairly easy build and lots of short-cuts that can't be seen (the connection for the dragon wings are horrible ). But I'm happy you liked it and I hope everyone have learned a lesson (unless you already knew): Real Viking did not have horns on their helmets! That only happened on stage.
-
Tbanks for the comments! I'm afraid my next S4 MOC will wait a bit, I got some real life stuff to take care of first It's the promter's box, he's whispering the beginning of the phrase to the singers.
-
The Viking is obviously not a real viking. With that stupid horned helmet he must be part of some kind of Wagner opera along with other fantasy characters. Flickr link
