Keeping a 9V motor 10153/5300 in good condition
legotrainfan replied to legotrainfan's topic in LEGO Town
Guess why I opened this thread! When I lose one motor after the other due to old age, I'll also say YIKES! I cannot afford buying 12 motors just to have a replacement motor for every engine. Far too expensive, but I would do so if I won the lottery! The following sets I have all had a motor included: 3225 (got it in used condition), 4511, 4512, 4551 (got in used c.), 4563, 4564 (got in used but excellent c.), 4565, 10001. My oldest motor came with set 4563, which I got in my childhood. I can't say how long the motor of set 4551 has been in use since it was used. Other sets where I added a motor (got the sets all MISB): 2x 10020, 10133, 10173, 10183, 10205. ...plus the two 10153 motors that are still MISB equals 16. EDIT: Three or four years ago, I bought two 9V motors for 22 euro each. Some months later I bought two more motors from the same seller for 24 euro each. Those were good times to get a motor! I wish they were so cheap now! -

Thanks for all your comments! More ideas are still welcome though! Simonwillems, I doubt that 10153 motors bought in the US are cheaper. Of course, there is the exchange rate, which is good for European customers when they buy something in the US. But what about shipping costs to Europe and customs fees? I also have no ideas how to open a motor. At the moment I have 16 motors. 14 are in use and 2 are MISB. No motor I have has stopped working so far. Just want to make them work as long as I can. The battery box for the future power functions train is quite big. Quite hard to convert smaller locomotives. -
I wish you a happy birthday with tons of LEGO bricks!

Hi! I'm sure you'll feel comfortable here! Is t-o-f an abbreviation for something? What does it signify?

Welcome to eurobricks, Sugar! I just want to repeat what everyone else has been asking: what themes are you into? Where are you from?

The production of 9V motors 10153 has ended. The price for a new one has already risen on eBay and on bricklink they are not cheap either. So my question is what can be done to make them work as long as possible? I've got a motor from 1991 and it still works. The only thing I do is to remove the dust that usually gathers between the metallic wheels and the round plastic thing on the metallic wheels; the things that keep the metallic wheels in their places. I only use a clean and dry tissue to remove the dust. Does dust get into the motor itself as well? There seem to be no screws to open it. Any ideas how to keep a motor in good condition? I'd be glad to hear some ideas and experiences!

What?! 38.27 euro for the Solar Snooper?! I think that is a very good price for this set, MISB! ...and I would also have opened it!

Hi and welcome to our community! What are the LEGO themes you're most interested in?
-
I got it in one?! Normally I'm not so good at guessing; otherwise I would have won in the lottery a long time ago. But you've made me curious. I'm looking forward to seeing your avatar.

Welcome to eurobricks! You'll definitely feel comfortable here! Don't bother about zero1312's greenhorn comment! I'm sure he didn't want to offend you. Take it easy.

I would like to build a Dome Car for my Santa Fe Super Chief but I don't have all the necessary elements yet. For another projects some elements are missing too: I have 4511 with old grey bricks and 10157 with bley bricks. I want to substitute all bley bricks of 10157 with old grey bricks. I wouldn't bother about 10157 with bley bricks so much if 4511 had also come with bley. I simply want the two sets look the same since they form one unit.

What book are you reading right now?
legotrainfan replied to Norrington's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I'm reading Arthur Miller's The Death of a Salesman. -
I also like your buildings very much, especially the yellow and black one! Nice layout! One of the best things you can do when space is limited.

Hi and welcome to eurobricks! So you've become a victim of the charm of your bricks again? Has your name (Dufresne) been inspired by the movie The Shawshank Redemption? The protagonist's name is Andy Dufresne. I'm just curious to know. It's one of my favourite movies.

Actually I was hoping that the TLC was going to release such a wonderful harbour. But why waiting for the TLC when you can do it yourself?! Absolutely splendid MOC! Love looking at those pics! Quite many and nicely detailed buildings! Congrats! You did a great job indeed!

Welcome! You're interested in city? In this case you must also be interested in trains, I suppose!

Wonderful house with a good colour combination! I especially like one little detail: the eaves gutter.

Ok, Klaus-Dieter, in another thread you suggested providing a more detailed description of my ideas in this thread, and here it is: The indoor swimming pool: This is not an idea I developed myself. I simply came across a picture of a great indoor swimming pool here. Just click on the link! It looks absolutely brilliant! *wub* A computer shop: This shop could be integrated into a shopping centre. The shopping centre could be of the same size as Cafe Corner with the computer shop being on one floor and other shops on the other floors. Two guys trying to sell the computers would be good plus two or three customers. Maybe a van with the computer shop's logo on it would also be nice plus a driver. This van is needed to deliver computers to customers and/or it is the van of the service crew that go from house to house to repair computers (as long as there's still guarantee on them *wink* ). A car seller: A building with a lot of big glass windows because there are some cars on display inside. In the building there should be two ordinary cars and a SUV. Outside there can be four cars that are also for sale. There should also be a secretary's office in the building. Minifigs: the secretary, two car sellers, and three customers. ...it would be nice to have a garage and two mechanics as an addition to the car seller. The car seller's shop and the garage could have the same linking mechanism as Cafe Corner and Green Grocer. In addition to the two mechanics, there could be a tow truck and a car that is being repaired. Concerning the prices: all of the things mentioned above should be as cheap as possible, of course! *wink* *sweet*

I would love to see a school, a pharmacy, a university, a bakery, a car seller, a computer shop, a judo dojo, an indoor swimming pool (like this one), and a main bus stop with three buses and passengers. For trains I would find a dead-end station fantastic. This railway station should have three long railway tracks put next to each other. They should be long enough for an engine plus at least four passenger waggons.

Cutlass to foreshadow a return of the Pirate Theme?
legotrainfan replied to Siegfried's topic in LEGO Pirates
I voted "dunno". Maybe it means something, maybe it means nothing at all. Let's wait and see (which is the only thing we can do anyway). -
I wish you both a happy birthday! May your houses be filled with rattling presents!
