  1. I wish you a happy birthday!
  2. First of all: welcome to eurobricks! Your first post and it's really a tricky question. I've asked that myself as well. That's really difficult but you could ask that yourself with many things. A friend of mine doesn't like animals and thinks it's crazy to spend money for a vet when people are suffering and dying in the world. Just recently we've spent 60 euro to immunise our cat against two diseases. Would it be morally better to take the risk of our cat falling incurably ill? Should you just use the money for a charity organisation? Maybe. I don't know. But I'm not willing to risk our cat's health. If you have a pet, you are responsible for its well-being. The tragedy is that no one feels responsible for people starving in all parts of the world, but most of the time this is not the average man's fault. Most of the time it's a matter of politics. Dictators rule the country and eat the most delicious things whereas the average man and woman is dying. Countries spend millions on the development of nuclear bombs though that money could be used to ease the hunger of millions and to improve medical care. I don't want to keep you from buying fewer sets or no LEGO at all, so that you have more money which you can give to charity organisations. It's a good thing to do that. Apart from that, there are also other things you could do to help people. You can go donate blood, for instance. Or you work some hours a week for a charity organisation on a voluntariy basis. I mean every little bit can count. Just make up your mind what would be the best way to help others. Just to ease your conscience: there are people who spend a lot of money on their model train out, car(s), and other things. And what's the use of going on holiday in a four star hotel? Wouldn't it be better to give the money for the flight and the hotel to a charity organisation? These are questions of the same type. I think it's a good thing that you have raised this question. Many people don't even think about it, which is worst.
  3. The three classic town sets I'd like to have most are 6399 Airport Shuttle, 6394 Metro Park & Service Tower and 4554 Metro Station. There are some other classic town sets I'd like to have, but there are none that I'd like as much as those three.
  4. Wow, I'm heavily impressed! Were they all new when you bought them? You're absolutely devouted to Pirates!! And you must have the necessary financial means to be so tremendously devouted to it! I also like the way you have transformed the Caribbean Clipper into something bigger and amazing! Absolutely great that ship! And I'm looking forward to seeing your port! Don't hesitate to post it as soon as you have completed it!
  5. It's a great thing to see Pirates make a comeback!! I only have six pirates sets and this is going to be the ideal opportunity to change that! I need some more! I've also been wondering how much the pirate ship will be.

  7. Welcome to our community! It's good to leave the dark (Dark Ages) and step into the light of the LEGO world again!
  8. Welcome to eurobricks! I'm sure you'll enjoy it here.
  9. For me the Super Chief 10020 is the best out of these three. The BNSF is also great, but you cannot take the roof off to look at the motor. Actually it has no motor at all. And I agree that the Swiss crocodile is not sturdy enough; and I have no idea how to add a light unit to that engine. Sometimes I always expect the crocodile engine to lose its "snout" and "tail" because those two things aren't attached to the central part well; it hasn't happened though. But I added some plates to attach the wheels better to the rest of the locomotive to make everything more sturdy. And - but that is no real criticism just a matter of taste - I substituted the white bricks used for the Swiss cross with red bricks. Now the crocodile engine looks more Austrian than Swiss. The Austrian Federal Railways also had such crocodile engines in service.
  10. Hi and welcome to our forum!
  11. Welcome to our forum! I'm sure you will feel comfortable here.
  12. There shouldn't be so much of the light cable in the front section or "cockpit." Most of the cable should be in the central part of the train. Then it is not so crowded for the engine driver. I have never had a problem with the cable and the space available for it. The only problem I had was that the cable had a loose contact after some time. When the train went into a curve (can't remember if it was a left or right curve) the light went off. I have now got the same problem with the cable that I put into my Santa Fe Super Chief. Always when the engine turns into a right curve, the light goes off. My dad could repair the cable for the metroliner. Even though he is quite skilled at repairing electronic things, he found it very difficult to repair since there were no screws to open the electronic plate. It annoyed him a lot. So I've been asking myself if I should really bother him with a second cable with the same problem. The train set itself is outstanding (and that's what I voted for). I only have the legend 10001, but it's 99% identical to 4558. I also have club car 4547. I don't have the legend club car 10002. The reason for this is I always had the choice between one big LEGO set or several small ones for Christmas when I was a child. I always went for several small ones. Metroliner 4558 would have been a big train set, but I really wanted a passenger car. So I bought 4547 with my savings without having the metroliner. I was quite happy when the metroliner was re-released. I bought it with my own money. Then I could finally use the club car with the train it was created for.

  14. How warm does it get in the shed itself when it's 30 degrees centigrade outside? I think you should consider that. When you park a car in the sun for a while, in the car it usually becomes warmer than it is outside. It all depends on how well your shed is insulated.
  15. Eurobricks is the right place for you if you like moccing and if you like LEGO in general! Welcome! What name do you use for your brickshelf account? Or could you possibly post a link to your account?
  16. Hi and welcome to our forum!
  17. We once had a thread about the new buffers. I wanted to write the following there, but I was unable to find that thread despite using the search function. Sorry for opening a new topic. I hope this is not old news for you: the new train buffers are now available on Pick a Brick. Has somebody bought them? If yes, could someone possibly tell us if the new buffers are as good as the old ones or better/worse? I'm just curious to know. For the time being I stick to the old buffers ...as long as they are still available on bricklink and eBay.
  18. Happy birthday! I hope you got a pie made of bricks! ...and a second pie that you can really eat.
