  3. Hi and welcome to eurobricks!
  4. I think this discussion is mainly about old sets that are brand new and not used LEGO. I only knew one little shop where you could still find older and discontinued sets, but it closed many years ago. I think its owner retired. I'd love to set my foot into one of the shops in those countries you guys have mentioned with old LEGO sets that are still MISB.

  6. Hi and welcome to our forum! Nice to see that your girlfriend behaves as you want her to behave (i.e. buying LEGO castles for you)... well, you're a king. Disobeying your orders wouldn't be a good idea, would it?

  8. I have neither bought nor been given a castle set as a present for a looong time. The newest castle sets I have (actually they are my brother's) are the two legends 10039 and 10000. No other castle sets produced after those have found their way in my collection. And though I don't like the use of bley for castle sets, my resistance seems to have been destroyed by looking at those pictues of that brilliant set! Every time LEGO releases such a wonderful set, my desparation becomes more intense. I do not yet have Market Street, the Green Grocer, Cafe Corner, and Town Plan. I'd be very interested in buying the new pirate ship and the wind mill 4999 - if it will ever be released for the general public! I've already been waiting for the day when money falls from the sky, and now they release that wonderful castle set! Desperation continued.
  9. Eurobricks is the right place for you if you're interested in LEGO Star Wars... and other LEGO stuff and themes as well, of course! Welcome!
  10. Thanks for that information. I just checked the bricklink sellers within the EU, and no one has new pieces or a quantity of used pieces higher than 11. But I'll see what TLC will say, whether they have that element in red or not. If not, I'll simply use another colour.
  11. Thanks beatnik! I had to print the instructions for the two freight waggons immediately. But I have found out that the red panel 1x2x3 with hollow studs is not listed on peeron. I've just emailed TLC to ask if they have that panel in red nevertheless. I can't wait to build those two waggons!
  12. Guss, just look above. He's already posted a link to that creation. eti, I like your moc. Quite a lot of fantasy included in it. I especially like the tree on which carottes grow. Quite handy. You don't have to get the carottes out of the ground any more.
  13. I'd like to see your moc with the two wizards transforming donkeys into pigs! It sounds hilarious! By the way, welcome to our community!
  14. This is the BEST idea! Just take advantage of the reduced prices and buy some 9V stuff as long as you can! As for converting 9V trains to RC trains: if you plan on buying the Santa Fe Super Chief 10020 (you seem to be interested in purchasing that engine), you could use the RC baseplate as a B-unit. But I'm warning you! The Super Chief is a heavy train, especially with all waggons added, and I'm not sure if an RC motor is enough to move it; I think it is not.
  15. Same for me: too many parts that are not LEGO, but I can see you had some amazing and very creative ideas when you built it.
  16. When I was 16 (year 1997), I myself thought that I was too old for LEGO. So I manoeuvred myself into the Dark Ages without any sort of pressure being put on me, but I was not 100% convinced of my own decision. It was quite hard to stick to that opinion. The only interruption was train set 10001. I gave my brother the money for it and he bought it in Legoland Germany. I had always wanted the original metroliner, but I had missed it. So that was my chance to finally get it. That was in 2002, I believe. I just checked my eBay feedback and found out that I got my first feedback in September 2004. That was when I used eBay to find lost and broken parts like old shields for knights to complete old sets. But some time later LEGO got my love back and I started buying sets again, nearly always from eBay, used and new ones. Only much later did I find out about bricklink. Now I could kick my butt for spending money on Nintendo games! Oh, I could have bought so many LEGO sets with that money!

  18. Afer emailing them, I got the following reply from an employee of TLC on Sept. 27: Rough translation: Thanks for contacting us. Set 4999 is a custom product for the Vestas enterprise, which is giving it to its own employees as a present. Due to an agreement with Vestas, we are not allowed to produce this set for the general public. That is why the number of sets will almost certainly remain limited. Does not sound so good...
  19. I voted "no" because they are usually very expensive; I prefer spending my money on lots of smaller sets instead of one incredibly big one. I also voted "no" because of Hinckley's comment..... though I'd be very tempted to buy a LEGO version of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.... St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin would also be great, though I find Vienna's cathedral is much more impressive and beautiful as the one in Dublin. Ok, I admit as an Austrian I might be biased. My minifigs are atheists right now. They have no church.
  20. Great review, thanks! There is one more thing to criticise about the train: you cannot open the doors of the passenger car and the caboose fully. That's something that annoys me slightly. But hey! It's still a great set! For those who have that set: do you also use two motors to pull the whole thing? I've one motor in the tender of set 10173 itself. It is supported by a motorised steam locomotive 10205. I think that set 10205 matches well with 10173.
  21. I like that rock. I've been wondering how many grey pieces you must buy to create such a mountain. The rock's interior is also very nice and using magnets to connect the two halfs is a unique idea. What I find odd, however, is that the mast on the roof does not go through the roof. The roof would never be able to hold the mast. Well, I'm being realistic.
  22. Nice layout; the streets look a bit empty though. I would love to have as many houses as you have. My minifigs have to live in the passenger cars of my trains. I've noticed that we use the same road plates. I like the old grey ones with the bike lanes best.
  23. I voted above average. I find the locomotive is a bit too small. It could be longer. Anyway, I like the colour scheme of the train very much. I didn't get it half price off. I bought it for the orginal price. But I'm happy to own one! It's a pity that the 9V motor was not included.
