  1. Speed regulators are cheap and will be cheap for quite a while, I believe. They were available in every starter set and normally you don't need many of them. Indeed, certain AFOLs may need several speed regulators, but that's more the exception than the rule. I normally don't use more than two. Two more are unused and another two I bought MISB (and they still are MISB) when TLC sold them for 10 euros. As for curved tracks, they will also remain quite cheap since you usually got quite many in every starter set. Sometimes you can find MISB curved tracks for only 10 euros. What will definitely always be expensive and become even more expensive are straight tracks. Just recently I've bought two 4515 boxes, MISB, for ca. 28 euro on eBay. A bit pricey but I've seen more expensive MISB 4515s on bricklink. So I had to get them. Straight tracks are simply needed more often to extend your layout and to make your train go faster. A curvy layout is no good for your beloved high speed train. 9V motors are still quite affordable and their price hasn't increased considerably yet. However, I wouldn't be too happy about this fact. Their price is rising slowly, I suppose. So it's better to get your hands on some 9V motors now instead of buying one at a later point of time when they have become rare and expensive gems. Since it's difficult or impossible to upgrade smaller engines with PF - unless you want to use a tender - 9V motors are much wanted.
  2. I can only say NO to this idea. I'm also among those who don't want to see this forum being flooded with stupid, redundant, offensive, etc. posts. I really appreciate the work of the moderators, who are watchful and take care that this wonderful forum won't become something terrible.
  3. Done! That was one of my five various elements. The other votes were spruce tree big and small in white since they'd be wonderful for a winter landscape plus train windows in green and train windows in dark green. As for the basic elements, I have no idea what I should vote for.
  4. You're right and I know that. I didn't express myself well. I just wanted to indicate that there are indeed European engines with an engine output of 10,000 HP or even higher. I've just checked wikipedia: The Taurus engines with 2 pantographs are stronger than the ones with 4.
  5. I can only confirm your opinion. The Austrian Taurus's (serial number 1116) engine output is 10,000 HP. The Taurus type that has four pantographs (serial number 1216) might even be stronger than that. Engines of that type - though possibly with a different name - are also used in Germany and Hungary. Back to the actual topic: I like both American and European trains.
  6. Brickset.com has listed this ship in their database. A note has been added saying "PRIVATE promotional set for Maersk." Does this mean that only the employees of Maersk get their hands on it (as it was the case with the Vestas windmill, which I built by buying all bricks separately)? I hope not! Does anyone know more? PS. My 1111th post! Nice number!
  7. A very nice replica of an excellent 9V train station. It's a good idea to use the building as a dead-end station. This way you can make the platforms as long as you want. If the railway station were parallel to the tracks, it'd have to be very big and long to make it look realistic. But since it's a dead-end station, the impression of it being too small is cunningly avoided.
  8. I definitely like City sets the way they are. So a clear NO concerning the use of guns and/or depiction of violence in these sets. There's too much violence in the real world. It's nice to have none in the City sets.
  9. Look closely at the photos of the sets you want to buy. If you think there's something missing, inform the seller. I once bid on a used set and informed the seller that there were one or two pieces missing. He said he'd check and try to find them. Unfortunately, I didn't win the auction.
  10. Your waggons are simply amazing and they definitely look better than 10016! Great choice of colours! The modifications done to the chassis are also great and the way you've attached the ladders is also ingenious!
  11. Though it's simple it looks pretty good. Because of the colours you used I think I'd go well with set 4512.
  12. I especially like Creator houses. I've already got three of them. The Apple Tree House is on my wishlist. I sometimes buy other creator sets. These are mainly bulk brick sets to increase the amount of bricks I have.
  13. I put my instructions in folders. I usually put each instruction into a transparent envelope before they go into a folder. One big folder is already full. About two thirds of a second big folder are full. I also have a small folder for smaller instructions (Santa Fe engine and waggons, for example), but it's also already full. I also have instructions of older sets. I used to punch-hole them when I was a child, but now I don't do it any more. Punch-holed instructions are also in my folders.
  14. Whung, thanks for providing us with a picture! This is really a great set! A very nice addition to my Winter Toy Shop! And I love the minifig stuck in the snow by the frozen pond! It's hilarious! So let's see if there will be another winter set next year. I'd be great. Then we could build our own winter village.
  15. I'm disappointed. I expected it to be bigger. Actually I was hoping for something in near minifig scale. I should've known better. If it were bigger, it'd be incredibly big and too expensive. Still, I'm disappointed.
  16. Wow! Very nice redesign of a classic set! Your choice of colours is great and I especially like the much longer platform, where longer trains can stop! It's also a brilliant idea to create a railway station that you can open up.
  17. I try to use as few stickers as possible. Applied stickers make a disassembly of engines and waggons difficult. If they are applied, you cannot wash the bricks on which there are stickers. But some train stuff doesn't look good without stickers. So my Super Chief has all the stickers it came with on it. The same is true for my BNSF engine. When I was a child, I used to apply all stickers anyway. So the sets I got in my childhood have all stickers applied.
  18. Don't be too quick with your predictions, Holodoc! I'm not sure if you're a good oracle! I can remember the vet saying that pygmy rabbits become between four and eight years old. I have two and they're both older than the average maximum age. One rabbit is 12 years old, the other 11. No joke! For me it's a mystery why they have become so old. And I can guarantee they're really that old. I bought them when they were quite young. When I go to the vet with them, the vet is always very astonished about their age. So let's hope the best for Paul!
  19. All this media hype about him... I somehow pity Paul. I'm sure he'd be a happier kraken if he could live in his natural habitat instead of spending his life in an aquarium where he must predict the outcome of soccer matches. I suppose he'll predict the future again when the European soccer championship takes place in two years' time. What a life for such an animal.
  20. I love your well! I think it's little things as your well that can give a castle layout the necessary touch. Your creation should be an impulse set!
  21. Thanks for this comprehensive review! It's a nice set. I voted average. I think my vote shows my attitude towards islander sets. I find them quite ok but nothing special. However, I would never say no to a MISB islander set if I had the chance of getting one for a reasonable price. I once bid on Forbidden Cove in MISB condition on eBay but didn't get it. I wasn't willing to bid more.
  22. That's a really amazing waggon! It reminds me of a H0 waggon because it is so detailed! Great job! Really fantastic!
  23. Well, all those vehicles remind me of the My Own Train series, where you could have one and the same steam engine in different colours. Anyway, it's a great brickshelf find, and it's a cool idea to use the parts of specific themes to build theme specific Mega Core Magnetizers.
  24. I wouldn't sell such precious bricks and childhood memories either.
  25. Nice new version of an old set! Great mixture of older and newer pieces! And I think the tree even looks better in your version! The little spring next to where the female minifig is standing is also a very nice detail!
