  1. Thanks for your really quick answers, guys! I know how "awesome" it can be. Make one little mistake and you change a sentence's meaning completely. The following two sentences are nothing to which you have to reply. I know the difference. And no, it's not a mistake I myself made once. It just shows how careful you have to be with grammar. It's for your entertainment. A. Your dog looks like my brother. B. Your dog looks like my brother's. => If you forget the apostrophe and the S, your brother will always hate you for not being good at grammar.
  2. Hello, dear native speakers of English! A) Triplets can change the LIVES of their parents completely. B) Triplets can change the LIFE of their parents completely. Which one do you find better? I'd go for A because parents are two people. That's why I'd use LIVES. However, when you talk about a married couple (or two people who have a relationship), you can also talk about THEIR LIFE together. If you see it from that point of view, B might be OK too.
  3. Hello everyone! I'm washing some of my train sets because a lot of dust has gathered on them. My question is whether the train axle - here I'm talking about the type of axle that 9V and PF trains/waggons usually have (Element ID 4580964 for two of those axles on P@B) - can corrode or not? Is it made of chrome steel, which normally doesn't corrode? Of course, a bit of water and immediate drying will do the axles no harm. I'm just curious to know.
  4. I don't know if I will buy this one. I'd have to find some empty space where I could put it, and that's quite a challenge. I'm busy disassembling sets and putting them back into their boxes because I'm running out of space. That way I managed to create some space for the Pet Shop modular building. I don't know if I really need this Town Hall. It's a wonderful buidling and incredibly high, but I've already got a Town Hall as part of the Town Plan set. Of course, it is much smaller and not modular, but I don't think I need two Town Halls. I'd rather save the little bit of space I will have left after the disassembling of some sets for the modular building that comes after the Town Hall. I would love to see a bank.
  5. The building itself is already wonderful. I especially like that decorative arch above the upper windows. But the interior of the factory is absolutely breathtaking! You built some awesome and very detailed machines that look like real ones.
  6. Pet Shop 10218. I'm looking forward to receiving it!
  7. Wow, you're MOC is really breathtaking! And there are so many minute details! You don't have building instructions for it, I suppose? Well, I wouldn't know where to place such a big and wonderful gem anyway.
  8. I bought one pair of 9V switches (4531), MISB, on Bricklink.
  9. Hey guys, where are your precious answers?
  10. Thanks, prateek, for your last replies! And the "game" goes on: The waves at Tenerife are very high. => Is the preposition correct? If not, what would you say? The waves at the coast of...? The waves were very high in the storm. => Is the preposition OK or would you say "during the storm"? I didn't like the meal of yesterday. => I'd say: I didn't like the meal yesterday (or maybe also "yesterday's meal"). The "of" sounds too strange. Thanks in advance!
  11. Hi guys! Some more questions for you: Is this sentence correct? => I am going to sleep by mum and dad tonight. I suppose that the student who wrote that sentence wants to say that the kid is going to sleep in their parents' marital bed, as children sometimes love doing. If the writer wanted to say spending the night in the house of the parents, I'd say: I am going to sleep at my mum and dad's tonight. Is the tense correct? => Every day we were swimming in the lake. I'd say: "Every day we SWAM in the lake." I don't know if it is OK to use the past progressive for repeated actions in the past. What about this one: => We were in England with the car. Or should it be: We were in England by car. Are both of the following versions correct? I think they are. => We were by the river. => We were at the river. Thanks in advance for your comments!
  12. Happy birthday to you!
  13. Thanks for confirming my opinions, Pandora! What about this one: "We rode with the bikes to the next city." I'd say: We rode our bikes to the next city.
  14. I'm quite surprised that no one has offered any help yet.
  15. Native speakers of English, I need your help again! What do you say to the following sentences? In the next days we drove to Geneva. => My suggestion: Within the next few days we drove to Geneva. => I don't like the preposition "in" in connection with the past tense. I'd use it for the future: In the next few days we will go there. Or (past tense): On the next few days we decided to... It is a big city with a chemical industry. => Is it OK to say "A chemical industry." If no, what would be the correct version? We drove to Cologne, where a big cathedral stands. => I don't like "stands." I'd say "...where there is a big cathedral."
  16. I've detected that one of the technic gears hangs quite loosely on the technic axle. I knew this was a problem, because the original axle you find in the set isn't long enough. I used a longer one, but still it doesn't work properly. The power of the motor is transmitted to the axle well. The gear is the weak point. It won't rotate properly and does not pass on the power. If anybody has got a solution, I'm all ears!
  17. TheBrickster wrote: If you mean this, MightyMegs, I can assure you that it is not my problem. I didn't ignore this step of the instructions. I even removed the pushing rods completely but to no avail.
  18. I used the search function, but I couldn't find a post where problems with the Emerald Night were discussed (though I know they do exist). If a moderator finds one, feel free to merge this thread with an existing one! I don't know why but the power output of the motor is not transmitted to the wheels of my emerald night. I removed the pushing rods. The place with all the gears is fine, but everything moves quite slowly there. The motor works perfectly, but it sounds as if it spins without transmitting its full power to the wheels. First, it worked nicely, but later the train stopped suddenly. I thought the energy level of the battery box was low and recharged it, but it didn't help.
  19. Has anybody else experienced any problems with a motorised Emerald Night? A technic element must have become dislocated. This is just an assumption. The battery box is completely recharged. The motor moves, but the engine does not. First it moved nicely without any problems. Just the battery box didn't have enough energy. I also removed a locking problem caused by the pushing rods and one construction flaw (technic gear falling off), which were mentioned here, even before I motorised it. I hope it's nothing difficult to fix. I don't like disassembling complex sets just because of one simple problem.
  20. I've just realised that one orange knob is for the lights (switching them on and off) and the other one for regulating the train's speed. Interesting and fun! @AndyC: Just attach the motor to the other output of the receiver. (See mostlytechnic's post!) Then you'll be able to control 8 trains (or seven if you have the Emerald Night, because one channel is used for turning the lights on and off). I hope I've understood mostlytechnic's explanations correctly.
  21. Does anyone know what to do when the lights of your Emerald Night don't work? After installing all the necessary equipment to make it run, everything worked perfectly. Now the lights don't work anymore. I hope the lights don't have a loose connection, but then it'd go on and off all the time, which is not the case.
  22. Thank you very much!
  23. Hello everyone! I've recently bought IR Speed Remote Control 8879 plus all the other things you need to motorise your Emerald Night. However, I have no idea how this thing works. Where do you have to place the batteries? On the backside of it? Removing the screw? What are all the buttons there for? And how do you programme it if you have two trains that you want to control with it? Much to my surprise, an instruction manual was not included. Can you download one?
  24. I have just bought some parts to motorise my Emerald Night: 8878, 8887, 8882, 8884, 8870, 8879 plus Alien Conquest Jetpack 30141. The last one is a nice free little extra.
  25. With me the same set is concerned. It is also a MISB set.
