Think Elwood Blues' place from the Blues Brothers (before Carrie Fisher blew the building up) We call them Doss-houses in the UK, and Flop-houses over here in the US. They're low cost, offering little services except for a bed to transients, seasonal workers and travellers on an extreme budget. They're not normally in the best part of city - and so they had to make an appearance in my Lego town! Thanks for all the comments!

Posted my final version of the Soup Kitchen/Flop House I've been struggling with working on and off on for a couple of weeks. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=85890 Next I'm going to burn it down and show it derelict.....

It's the combination of a low sun angle almost at zero degrees to the wall - check out the loooooong shadow of the graffiti artist and the sheer thickness of the sticker. It's like a car decal and it's definitely got volume. Hence, the shadow.

LBR & S@H Product Discount Restriction (NORTH AMERICA ONLY)
eurotrash replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm wondering if it'll jack up the prices in BL. If there's an increase in prices at the supply end then those raises will get passed onto us the consumer. -
They put it in as a spacer to ensure you placed that 2x4 brick in the right place. I immediately put it in my pile of spares.

I'm on the other side of the state between Joplin and Kansas City. I try and build what I see - so I guess this is midwestern low income architecture. I'd like to be able to claim credit for it, but it was a freebie sticker when my wife bought a bigger sticker for her laptop. As soon as I saw it I knew what I was going to use it for and finally I had a building that I could use it on. The dumpster's been tagged as well with another random sticker I found on some second hand bricks. Not for a soup kitchen! Thanks for the comments....

Where's the skeletons?, the aliens?, the bloodshed? the chemical pollution? Who are you? and what have you done with the real Monsinjor? Seriously though this is a lovely looking MOC. Very rustic and rural.

I use my yellowing/smoke stained bricks (from Craiglist acquisitions)in my creations! They're perfect for my skeevy streets. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=84426 , http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=85890

LBR & S@H Product Discount Restriction (NORTH AMERICA ONLY)

I wonder if they cancelled this because there was some large scale abuse going on? And it's interesting that it only currently applies to USA/Canada. -
Discussion Topic: Should there be a 2 storey modulars series.
eurotrash replied to Legoofmyleg's topic in LEGO Town
Rather than number of stories being used to differentiate between the regular Modulars and this new subset maybe there's a better case to be made for 16-wide vs. 32-wide. Either way I'd be interested, but in any Modular (irrespective of number of stories or width) I want to see new techniques, new uses for old bricks, new colors..... -
My Lego Town is continuing it's economically downward trajectory with this addition of a Soup Kitchen/Flop House. It's in a run down part of town and it helps the locals who rely on it being open 24/7. Cheap wholesome food served hot! The facade is crumbling and there's some masonary in the sidewalk, the bricks are discolored (Yay for second hand bricks!), the drainpipes don't join in the middle, and the signwriters printer hasn't yet created a suitable sign ( ) From the rear Rickety steps leading up to the Flophouse entrance, the dumpster, and some graffiti artist admiring their work. Yep! It's a Banksy! Here's the ground floor Soda machine, bathroom, microwave, entrance lobby, bench seating, fully fitted kitchen - complete with big freezer, fridge, 6-ring burner, sink and storage. Wall mounted, large old-school TV tuned to a local station. Twin cup holders. Friendly service. The soda machine Upstairs the Flop House/Cheap Hotel Three bedrooms, one wash room, check in desk (complete with a dead rubber plant on top of some shelves). Here's the Soup Kitchen/Flop House next to my rundown Bar (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=79480) / Taco Truck (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=77566) I hope you like it and criticisms/suggestions/comments are welcome!

There's some lovely details hidden under the grayness. I particularly like the way you made the beds and the use of the tape machine(?) tiles for the top of the cooker in the kitchen was inspired. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Excellent job! I grew up around Hadrian's wall and this looks like an impressive reconstruction of one of the Milecastles. Thanks for sharing it. For those Forum members who haven't seen the Wall as it currently stands here's a picture from Wikipedia (with the ruins of one the Milecastles). It's worth visiting IRL...

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
eurotrash replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Great result The Jersey Brick Guy! You should be very proud for completing it - though we're going to need to see photographic proof. -
It's going to be a tall building, but it's going to look spectacular with a roof garden! Keep us posted with updates....
-
That's much better! There's some nice detailing in there. Do you have plans to brick it in real life?
-
That is superb! Besides the awesome engineering that you've used to make it pop up the detailing on the pages is really well done (I like the hands as candles) and the outside of the Book itself is very effective! Thanks for sharing it with us...

Not sure which horse design you're referring to but according to BL here's one that weighs 13.17 grams http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4493c01pb02

If this gets approval I hope they make it completely Modular compliant (if it's not already).
-
Wow! These are extremely well done. They look beautiful.

The MOC section kinda makes sense to me - inventories for components, links to instructions and all tied to BL shops. Although I think there'll be sticker shock for some of the newbies when they look at the embedded value of the larger MOCs
