MOC: The Mighty Atom2 - Wacky Building Challenge :)
Konrad replied to dundarach's topic in LEGO Train Tech
oh man i miss those old school yellow motors! -
I find that even real lego biodegrades after time, the plastic cracks, looses color, and even develops a smell. I can cetainly say that the old school lego made in europe from the 80s and back was by far much more robust and better quality then the current bricks. They are junk!

It can't, unless you use a 4.5v motor and the RC module. PF requires 4 wires, - + and two signal.... I am not sure how you would wire the signal to a 4.5v motor, unless you sacrifice a PF motor for parts...

I am not sure if TLG still makes those parts. That being said, O rings from a hardware store will be lightyears ahead of the translucent hard plastic TLG used on those wheels. Even the PF passenger train, a light set had crazy wheel slip with those. Since i upgraded the traction tires I can honestly say it picked up 40% more speed, even enough to derail in a corner on full throttle!

Guys this is exactly it for me, Its just plastic. I sold off one set before when i was 22. I thought i missed it terribly so i got a mint 7745 with cross over track, turnouts, the works. Then I ended up selling it too...I thought i would miss it terribly and....i dont. I guess at 27 now, my priorities have changed. I am tied down with all this stuff, when I want to travel, I want to see the world, I want to open up a business, etc. If in the future, once settled, I feel like buying it all back, I want to be able to financially afford it all, but to do that i need to invest time to find myself in this world right now. If the mood strikes, I want to be able to buy everything sealed in box and laugh at the cost. Its only plastic, its only money and at this point in my life I need to be free! PS , I still have my Marklin Z trains which take zero space, those i ll hang on to for a while still but the lego, I don t even have the time to build or the space it would be better used by people who do!! After all nothing lasts forever , and as we all know, sooner or later the plastics used in lego harden become brittle and perish. Thus!!! I want this stuff to be enjoyed!!!!

change the rubber traction tires on the rims. Do you remember the old lego soccer sets? they use to use those white rubber bands for the goalies etc? those are soft rubber and do wonders for traction on rc and pf motor rims ;)
