  1. I like the looks of it. I don't know much about lego trains, I've only got the recent Harry Potter and winter Village sets... But neither of those came with magnets. I thought lego stopped using magnets because swallowing them could be poisonous or something? (obviously accidental swallowing, not purposely eating them ) It's a shame about the Disney tax, but for what looks to be a decent train set and station, the price is still acceptable, just.. Will this be an exclusive or could it possibly be found on sale on amazon at a later date? Wondering whether its worth using my vip points against this or save them for the next modular/star wars ucs set which I typically never find on sale...
  2. I think the word you mean is 'infatuation' instead of 'fatigue', that might help clear up some misunderstandings...?
  3. I just had a thought... Not sure if it's been suggested (I expect it has in which case this is kinda irrelevant, but I couldn't find it). But I saw the ghost dog from hidden side, and started thinking... They don't do complete transparent minifigs because of brittleness and stiffness... But what if they dual moulded the neck piece on the torso, and the arm slots as normal abs? The rest being transparent...? Similar with the legs... The 'unseen pin connectors' that the legs slot onto, being abs while the rest being transparent? I'm not entirely sure how their physical process of dual moulding occurs, but perhaps that is a viable option to bring transparent minifigs?
  4. I'm also all for them making better ghost representations that imitate the AR versions. I do have to question the second paragraph though... (I separated for ease of reference). Do tell what a non fake/real ghost looks like? Because as far as I'm aware, no one anywhere in the entire world has solid visual hi res graphical proof. So, while you're entitled to your opinion that the ghost pieces look shit, I disagree and think they give a good variation that could easily be viewed as them being 'evil ghostly presences' that aren't tied to any particular body, just bad/evil energy in its natural form. The mini figs in the hidden side sets are again, a nice variation. The prints are good, the pieces are good. OK, would be nice to have trans bodies, but we know the issues why they're not used. I can only hope they'll get round it soon enough, perhaps, they actually have and is what may well be included in the second wave. The 'AR' bulls**t won't go away from this theme at all. It's TLG trying to branch out into the digital world again, but this time I think they've got it right. I believe this will be a hit with kids. If you don't like it, you entirely have to do nothing at all to not have anything to do with it too! But for those kids that do, they'll have a new, and let's face it, modern way of interacting with their lego. Because let's face it, technology is in everything. And if incorporating it this way helps bring us a new theme like this? I'm all for it. I also think you're looking at this entire theme waaaay too much from an adult perspective entirely ignoring the fact this is aimed at young kids. Your previous mention about how it's not spooky or scary etc (I forget the exact words), of course its not... To adults. To teenagers. But. To some kids, really young kids, it'll have the same/similar effect as the TV series 'goosebumps' / 'Round the twist' / 'are you afraid of the dark'. They're nothing. But they play on imagination. Where's your inner child gone? Dig him out again :)
  5. this is how I imagine you being Some people just don't learn no matter how many times you tell them...
  6. Ive supported sets before, like the ship in a bottle with the intention of getting it, then, not got it... This, I'd buy in a heart beat if they kept it very similar. I'd just hope they wouldn't make it open backed if it got chosen. And, I hope it gets chosen! This is an amazing all round pirate set that makes an awesome stand alone playset/display piece in its own right. This NEEDS to be made!!
  7. That is awesome! Does that use the actual lego coaster and its only the cdx track? I'll have to look into it, this is how tlg's roller-coaster should have been made! *edit* I've just gone and bought 2 of the expansion sets to have a go myself :) I see they have their own cart with what looks like sideways mounted wheels. I'm assuming TLGs version isn't compatible with the cdx block track?
  8. Ahhh how am I only just seeing this?! This is brilliant! It's such a clean build too, I could easily see this as an actual creator set! I like the smoothness that it drops and rises again, and that its automatic. The ride seating looks detailed too and spot on, it doesn't look at all like you've thrown something together for them to sit in. The little ticket office and stairways leading up and down are tidy too, everything about this just fits in perfectly!
  9. I'm gutted this didn't make it on Ideas. Will there be a file release or instructions/parts list for this? I'd love to have these!
  10. One thing which I'm kinda surprised about, after thinking about it, is the name of the theme. Say the name without any context and you have no clue what this theme could entail. Every other theme you can take a wild guess due to at least one of the words in the name and be not too far off. It just doesn't seem catchy in any way. Something like Ghost hunters/seekers, Hide 'n' Ghost-Seek or... I don't know, but 'hidden side' just gives nothing away to the theme other than something is hidden. Well, lots of sets in many themes have hidden play features, but it doesn't relate to some specific connection that separates this theme from any other though. Hopefully this doesn't detract any sales from what looks to be a promising in house theme.
  11. Looks like a good effort, it's smooth in shaping and generally looks pretty good to source as limited as it is, but one thing jumps out to me is the dish. Was that a compromise dueto not finding a better way of achieving the lopsided cone kinda shape? Also, some closer pics with a plain background (in addition to the ones seen above) would be nice to see too :)
  12. Regardless of the lack of physical ghost figs (which I think would have made an awesome addition-I understand why they didn't, but think perhaps they'd make a great addition for the next wave as people would have gained the connection with them by then) I think these sets are an awesome breath of fresh air. None of the other in-house themes really interest me except for the modulars and fairground sets. Star wars ucs is a let down for me this time round, and no fairground ride in sight, I feel they really done well in the design in all of these sets. Every single one has a lot of details, features and plenty of minifigs which are awesome in themselves. Definitely looking forward to getting all of these! I do hope they do more than one wave!
  13. I think there is enough fairground stuff this year to justify missing the creator expert set this year. The 3 in one has 3 excellent little builds, that I'll be buying 3 so I can have all 3 built at once. That'll do me right there. Let alone all the other fairground stuff going on! It also gives me a chance and motivation to have ago designing my own fairground ride. In all honesty, I think they've spoiled us with the roller-coaster, pirate coaster, this year's fairground related stuff/people pack, so I'm cool with them giving it a break!
  14. This is just excellence! I can't believe how seamless all the angles/curves are with minimal to no gaps! The waist line and curved hips are exceptional. There's an awful lot of snot work going on there to make it work, for you might be easy, but looks no easy thing to achieve! Did it take a lot of trial and error? The top of her staff is a nice feature too. Her lips, I can imagine would be difficult to achieve, and from a distance give the desired effect. But when I look up close, kinda makes me think of a red moustache instead but yet, I wouldn't know how to get a better result through your building style (or at all probably). The upper body shaping is spot on, although I wonder if they're 1 stud too high? Either way, the shaping and part usage is a great choice. I've seen a lot of your builds of people, but this stands out to me the most for its sleekness in curvatures. Almost forgot! The bottles and pouch with visible items is a nice subtle but effective touch!
  15. That's interesting, this is the exact set I have that I took apart and half the dark red pieces broke. Single plates, wedge plates, tiles, left half the part on the model and the other half in my fingers. Never noticed it happen with reddish brown though. If the pieces did break? I guess just phone up lego and ask if they can replace them. I haven't since I've not gotten round to rebuilding it so will bricklink them when I do, or maybe I will phone tlg up. Either way, I wouldn't let it stop you getting a set!
  16. I also came here because of the other thread. Figured I'd see where you're at. Straight away I like it because I used to play eve and instantly get the Amarr vibe. Interesting part usage of the tail section for the nose, although it's giving me a feeling that it closer resembles a high speed train front end you won't know unless you try though, so props for giving that part a go, and it has been implemented well, I just can't get high speed train thought out my head (and I'm not a train person either) but the rest of it, totally liking it. Makes me wonder what a brick built solution for the front would look like from you had you neglected the use of the tail part. I had started to design on LDD a smaller scale loosely based off the Amarr Harbinger (absolutely loved that ship and its style) but I suck at starting something from scratch and didn't know how to progress so it fell by the wayside... But this has made me want to carry on with it. While I might suck, and couldn't make something as clean as this, I feel the engine section looks too clean and may possibly benefit from even a little bit of greebles or tubing or something...?
  17. I believe there may have been a slight misunderstanding between you two? While I understand what you were alluding to Stash, and fully agree with you, you didn't correctly name the specific 'lego star wars set discussion 20**' thread as being the incorrect thread for the comments etc you referred to, but 'future released set' discussions being in the 2019 thread, of which, future released sets sounds like you're referring to the rumoured sets (because 'released')... Not the wishlisting which doesn't belong in the 2019 set discussion thread but the 'future star wars sets' thread. For someone that frequents the star wars forums, I get what you meant, but if leaf doesn't frequent them, adding the word 'released' could have been cause for misunderstanding?
  18. I feel this is rather exaggerating. If it is as bad as you're saying, it'd be glaringly obvious. But it's not. It's I've seen physical builds get no attention, I've seen ldd builds get no attention. Ldd gets less more often, but I believe that's simply due to many various reasons as already posted, absolutely none of which are to do with elitism.
  19. can we lose the incorrect assumption that it's childish? I see the word childish thrown around a shit ton when it's a simple case of human nature for some people to get angry and lose control of their emotions-something people do of ANY age, not just children, or not feel their work is valued and feel frustrated because of it. This can happen at any age, not just in children. The ability to hold it in is irrelevant to age.
  20. I disagree with your view on euro bricks, but agree with your view that it is tougher for recognition on digital builds. However, it isn't restricted to just digital builds either. The problem is, you're now doing digital builds for the wrong reasons. You're doing it hoping to get recognition others get, perhaps for even lesser real builds. Human nature is fickle, it always will be. I've seen it too. But seriously, do you really want 2+ pages of the same comments as I see happen so very often which is why I personally don't bother much adding my own in, as its mostly all been said before. If I see something unique that really hits me, I'll comment. Otherwise, I enjoy viewing it and will move on. One particular set of small builds was the fairground food stands in the shape of a drink container, fries box and a burger. Carried out to perfection. Yet I'll ignore larger more impressive builds. Why? I don't know. Its just the way I am. I've practically never ventured into the LDD area to be honest, but I may well do now, as I expect there's a lot there I've missed out on. Will I post lots of 'good build buddy!' posts? Nah, I will quietly appreciate them unless something greatly jumps out at me. I think part of the issue also, is nowadays, there are soooo many great builds out there, that a great build is now seen as the standard average, essentially the bar has been raised that something has to be spectacular for it to be seen as above average, and digital builds opens the doors for this even more so. Think of it as inflation You need to start designing builds for your own happiness, and allow it to stop at that, not caring about what happens next. Want to post it anyway? Sure, but post it with no expectations other than allowing others to view what you built. I dislike this 'like' culture, as it is pretty fake. But if you want recognition for your builds, join lego Facebook groups. If you're struggling to make ends meet, are you selling your ldd files of creations you've made? That would end up being thanks enough. Lots of people don't have the ability to design their own sets or see something they really like, but will happily fork out for instructions or ldd file. There would be your true thanks. I've designed a Haunted house based on two 10228s together. It's not amazing, but I think it's OK. I did it on LDD, and it's been finished for a few months now. Will I post it here? Not as LDD, as I'm already aware people prefer real builds. Do I care for that? Nah. I'll post it here once it's physically built. But I know there are people that appreciate it regardless of real or not. Do I still care what they think of the real build? Will I be hoping for people to comment on it? Nah. But if someone out there likes it enough to want to build it, I'll quietly be happy I've done something that brought a little joy into someone else's life. I care what I think of it. I'm happy with it and that's all that matters. This world has fast become superficial, and if you chase for recognition of others, it'll wear you down. Stop caring what others think of your builds, start caring about your own happiness. I'm pretty certain this thread was made in a final cherry on the cake moment of anger/frustration brought on initially by current real life circumstances hence the almost 180 and apology of potential offence caused. I do exactly the same, and have had my fair share of time in the 'time out' area because of it Take a breather and a step back. Do things that make *you* happy and stop right after.
  21. Does anyone know when these are set for release?
  22. They're not appealing 'solely' to us, they're appealing to the more mature audience that have no value in playsets but fully appreciate display sets. FYI, it'll be mostly adults that PAY for the more expensive sets, if not indirectly due to 'pocket money'/presents etc, and it'll likely draw them in to being more open to doing so (buying the more expensive sets) if for those older people that also like Lego have something they can connect with for themselves. Sure, there's also those that like to build with their children regardless what it is, but there is no doubt at all that there is a certain draw that is satisfactory and justified enough to do substantial display sets once or twice a year, when you have a £650 display set released a year and a half ago as an example. To take away something that a fair amount of the mature audience prefer (i say prefer, not 'must have instead of') so the wait is now yearly for a decent display set. It was hurting no one having two UCS sets a year, the lower age bracket people that prefer play sets have more than enough choice. It's a perfectly valid frustration when 2 choices per year is reduced to one for some. There is always going to be gripes in ANY age bracket. Kids gripes will be less picky undoubtedly, but there will always be gripes, so to throw what could easily be seen as a perfectly valid gripe, as 'wtf you gripe for' around is a bit tactless to say the least. Ugh... adult slots... it was a manner of expression, don't be pedantic, you get what my point was meant to be saying.
  23. Uhm, your 'no rerelease' point is kinda clutching at straws and isn't a point at all. As for the rest, so what? Not everyone reacts that way, it's pretty arrow minded to assume as such, or to assume as such that 'nearly everyone' or 'most of' or some other similar connotation. I'd also like to point out that TLG bring out an awful LOT of playsets in a single year. They also bring out pretty decent large and expensive playsets such as the millennium falcon, various ATAT walkers etc. Adults, you know, the majority of people who actually purchase the sets and who are also fans, for the past many years now, have had some sort of UCS set released either once or twice a year. That's fine, as they are typically expensive. So I see no reason why people should be subjugated to 'why you whining for' posts such as yours when there are already a crap ton of play sets meant for kids and adults slots are only twice a year, to have one of them be taken over by what is essentially a similarly priced-to-ucs play set. I could quite easily apply your own logic to your own opinion of wanting people to essentially I'm a moron and accept it's a playset... But, I understand people have different expectations due to longstanding traditions set by TLG themselves, tastes, opinions, etc.
  24. Well, looks like I'll be saving my money for something else... Just seems like the modular garage all over again back in the town forum. People wanted a ucs, I was hoping for something impressive, and they give us this trans-inbetweeny thing with a nose bigger than the wicked witch of the east. Wish they would make their mind up what direction they're trying to go...
  25. Looks to me like the designer took design cues from both of them. You can't argue it is one or the other but a mix of both so it's whatever you want to call it. F35 has one exhaust nozzle but standard shaped slanted forward tail fin while the F22 has w exhaust nozzles and the symmetrical sloped tail fin. Neither of which are specifically unique to the lego model which uses one thing from each. So it is both :)
