I've been thinking about that, but I"m not too sure about what color to use.... grey doesn't feel right and neither does brown....

Here's a small blacksmith show I built to go along with my castle and the village that I"ll build around it. There is room for a bed and a table inside as well as a small workshop. Off to the side there is a small roof over the entrance to the shop. blacksmith - corner view blacksmith - rear view blacksmith - forge blacksmith - top view

This is an amazing building!

Thanks for the move... somehow I had a feeling I would be in the wrong forum :) I'll have to hit Hobby Lobby as there is one around the corner from me :)

For starters, I hope I"m in the correct forum. Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone found someplace in US a store that carries the type of fabric that is used in the minifig capes? I went to JoAnn yesterday and I came up empty handed.... Any ideas as to what to use and where to get it? Thanks

9472 for $39 (plus tax) at Target :) Showed them Amazon listings, they did a price match and paid with my red card for additional 5% off :) I'm happy! It's a great little set.

Thanks! And likewise +1 for MattZitron. Great and easy transaction :) -
I have spent some time thinking about what to do about the front of the tower as it looked a little blah... also the way I had the roof supported made think of an easy-up so here's what came out all those thoughts updated front I have also moved the chimney on the "manor" to the side as I'm reworking the inside and the fireplace ended up in a corner.

I know what you mean... but at the moment I am all out of spice and full of blah ;) In all seriousness, I want to redo the top of the gate tower - the roof there feels more like an easy up than a red tiled roof ;) I also have the insides to finish up which will take a fair amount of work. When I"m done with that I'll look into adding spice ;)

As I was working on what I was calling a castle, I came to the conclusion that it really isn't one and to build one the right way I don't have enough bricks. Then I came across 4x1's at the local LEGO store PAB wall and I stocked up.... got home, ripped apart my creation in an attempt to build it bigger and .... I still didn't have enough bricks for a castle BUT I did have enough bricks to build a keep. Here's the two teaser shots (teaser as the inside isn't all finished yet) knights keep - front knights keep - side view Inside there is the Lord Kejtar's manor, knight and soldier quarters and a place for horses and of course.... kitchen :D

These are going fast... from a pile I"m down to few extras. Anyone else interested?

You are correct... was posting from phone and ended up having some "Droid" Issues... anyways, I'm in SoCal (USA) and here's a pic of the set. I have a few of them if anyone is interested.

Found some corner roof tiles so now there is an option 2 for the tower house gate house tower option 2
-
Thanks! Btw, this is what I"m thinking about doing to the front gate house optional tower gate house It protects the entrance to lower level from elements, gives the guards a place to hide out from the elements and protects the winch mechanism from direct enemy fire.
-
Did some more work - finished the roof on top of the lords chambers, and built a roof over the rear guard tower. Now I'm thinking about how to do a small stable (2 horse) inside and if I don't want to put a roofed structure on the front gate house (place where the guards can retreat during rain, etc rear view
-
Here's a bit of an update.... the roof is going to be modular/removeable so for now it's kinda of sitting on top of the second story of the Lord's rooms. Entry is from the ground level and there is steps up to the sleeping chambers which is the level with the windows visible here. lord's house

I've expanded/beefed up the gate tower updated gate tower gate tower top view This next one shows how the gatehouse looks with the top removed. I had to leave a section of top permanently mounted in order to reinforce the gate rails. gate tower, top removed
-
Thanks! Yup, the portcullis works and the winch is atop the gatehouse. I like your idea regarding making one of the towers rounded or hexagonal. Regarding the gatehouse: I might make it more rectangular rather then L shaped and make the back part a "guard shack" with beds for the guards. Yeah.. I wish I had more plates of other colors. I might replace what remains "visible" after I'm done populating the ground level. The part with windows is a walkway from the stairs on the lefts side (as you face the gate) to the ladder that's on the right side of the gate house. Also during siege you could place archers or crossbowman there as well. Oh yeah, part of the gatehouse removes (the left part of the L)

Here's an updated view of the front castle - front ] and an updated view of the interior castle interior Now I'm semi stumped as I don't know how to finish off the main level... I want to have a "stable" for about 2 horses, already have an area with a door and a window set aside for a kitchen (the area below the smaller rear tower)

In the base or the walls? The base is supposed to be "natuarl" rock/mountain/growth.
