If you are a tourist on a UK passport and you are planning to take it out of the country, you are exempt from sales tax. Depending on state and stores there are different ways that it is accomplished. It works the other way as well .. On a US passport in EU I'm exempt frompayong VAT though there the refund of VAT on items that I take out of the country is refunded at the exchange centers ay the last EU airport I'm in (if I have a connecting flight).

Here's the deal though - I carefully examined every bag before I grabbed it (pun intended!). I had some loose rules as to what made a bag worthy of purchase. I have seen though folks come in and grab them indiscriminately. At the end of the day you get what you pay for and the amount of effort exerted into choosing a bag was a big part of that payment. My wife would get sometimes kind of impatient with me as some stores we came across would have dozens of bags and I'd spend couple minutes examining each one. At other times she'd join the fun and she actually got pretty good when it came to selecting good bags. Having examined a lot of bags I can see where some disappointment would come from - sometimes the bags were worthless - and those I'd leave behind. Sometimes the bags were amazing (I scored 120 minifigs + extra minifig parts one time from 3 bags). I never was disappointed though with the ones I took home.

A BrickOwl order came in while we were in the hospital (baby Girl :) ) and now I can work on the castle only from time to time (keeping my wife company as she's feeding from 2330 till now .... and it's 2AM) Anyways, this is the updated roof (red on the manor to match the tower roof )

My original plan was that the manor house would be in one color and other structures would have a different color but I ran out of bricks....

Done a bit more work on the castle. Got two roofs nearly completed (one roof is missing a few tiles on the very top - just plumb run out...) and also still missing the rest of the lords tower. I'm deciding between 1 or 2 more levels that will either be topped off with a tall spiky roof or flat roof or... After that's done, then the courtyard needs work and the armory towers need finishing off. Courtyard will probably get a kitchen and a small smithy THOUGH I'm considering converting what I have as stable (lower level - straight up from the entry gate) into a kitchen and soldiers quarters..... Oh yeah, I wish that I had more of red roof tiles....

Still far from completion but I'm getting closer. In these pics you'll notice a lot of unfinished work (attic area above the stable does not have the tower walls and you can see into the attic)

Something to keep in the back of your head - how will you do stairs/ladders to upper levels in the gatehouse? I made the mistake of making just the front of the gatehouse when I started and now that I'm putting in access to higher levels I'm kicking myself for not making each side 2 studs wider......

I started working on the Manor House (or the Lords Quarters). I have two levels done with a stairwell from ground level to the second level. Got some of the windows in. As I'm trying to decide how tall to make that section I will work on the gatehouse.

After a bit of work - secret passage is complete. It will lead from the outside into the manor

Actually I think that I have an idea how to do it now :). Stay tuned for updates !
