Wow! And as I thought I'm almost done with my latest rebuild of the police station I see this.... impressive ;) gave me some ideas... My wife is already laughing at me quietly as I'm looking at the pictures ;)

It shouldn't be too bad as the outside wall shell is independent of everything. Also the next level stairs are not tied into the wall (yet :) )

The goal is to go 3 stories + attic (or a loft). House will be fully furnished with TV's, cabinets, beds, couches etc.... I already started furnishing a bathroom on the first floor. Regarding the windows, as you can see below, they are the least of my worries :) I need to start taking apart some of the creator houses that I have, as I'm short on some normal/matching building colors ;) I figure though that for starters I will get the layout and framework done and then I'll go after the proper colors (plus I might get lucky with a grab bag or some PAB stuff. Regarding the latter, I'm highly disappointed with the PAB contents recently. In last few days I visited four local lego stores (yup, I got four of them: one an hour or so away, another one about 40 minutes and two about 20 minutes from here) and wanted to take advantage of the buy big cup at the small cup prices and well... they had nothing from what I wanted....

So after being semi satisfied with the police station, I figured it's time to start building the actual city. This got me scratching my head as to what format I want my city to take and since I'm limited (for now) to a table space of 6ft by 2ft and change I figured I'll go with a narrow building style (something along the lines of San Francisco) where each floor is really a room and something and there are plenty floors ;) With that plan in mind I started my build and here's what I have so far As you look from the front you can see an elevated door (there will be a small staircase/entrance steps that lead to the door. You can also see a window to the basement to the left of it. Oh yeah... before anyone questions window color, that's what I had handy for that floor :) Looking from the top you can see the layout that includes a master bedroom (upper left) and a bathroom (lower right). There is also a small terrace/balcony that you can access from the bedroom. I have also left a small area free so that I can start my stairwell to go up to the next floor. The ground floor is going to have a living room area/main area at the entrance, stairway upstairs and a stairway downstairs to exit. Also small kitchen will be located in the upper left hand corner. Here is the back exit with the stairs leading down to it. And lastly here's the shot from the rear of the building. You can see the door being located at the "ground" level. Couple more notes, there are no windows on the "main side" walls as the building is meant to be sandwiched between other buildings.

So here's another revision.... I moved the helipad forward and raised it up a bit. I'm not happy with the tan plates I used to stiffen it up below.... might have to change them out for light gray. and top view... as you can see it's a post apocalyptic world ;)

I don't easily givup :) So since the challenge to the layout was thrown, here's an update :) I pulled out the cell area forward and moved the prisoners to the tip of the "U". Looking with the roof open, you can see in the lower left (which is the former toilet area) interview room (it's not furnished yet as the working crew just left and the paint is still drying). The cells are accessed through a short hallway. On "issue" that I have is the roof.... The area above the cell is so "bare". I'm considering raising the helo pad and moving it so that it overhangs the parking area a bit BUT that leaves a HUGE open roof area where it used to be... which also bugs me.... so I'm kinda stuck... Any suggestions? Oh yeah, here's my HVAC segment that goes over the main part of the building.
-
I know..... I have been toying with an idea to push out the jail portion so that the building is more U shaped than L shaped and then place a small interview room in the spot where the toilet is now..... Office space.. maybe that's what I'll place upstairs instead of a small gym space? hmmmm

Ugh.... 800x600? that's tiny..... oh well LOL the cops didn't get them either ;)

For whatever reason I wasn't too happy with my previous police station and it kept bugging me to the point that I ended up rebuilding it. Here's the result of the 90% (and I think that it will always be 90% as I keep changing things) completed one http://i41.tinypic.com/118nonm.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/180xuf.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/20gf76e.jpg Looking inside we have the required cell with a bunk bed, booking area (needs more work), "cage", reception area with the desk sgt (of course nearby a coffee pot and a water bottle and a restroom in the back. http://i43.tinypic.com/346l254.jpg Here's a closer look at the cage and the restroom (I know there is no toilet seats... but well... I"m short on parts :) ) http://i39.tinypic.com/642rv5.jpg The reception area is fairly simple http://i41.tinypic.com/2hyjtwh.jpg The cell has the bunk beds with a toilet and a sink http://i43.tinypic.com/2yxgpz7.jpg When we get to the next level things get a little bit bare.... There is a shower and a restroom with a small office spot. I'm thinking about fitting a small workout bench in the nook next to the stairs and a locker next to the door. Also I need to put a ladder in the "door area" so that the roof hatch can be accessed. http://i40.tinypic.com/f290g2.jpg Lt, out in front of the station http://i39.tinypic.com/s41655.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/wuhs8j.jpg So here's some dislikes that I have regarding the current build...... building s mostly white... but that's because I have lots of white bricks... so I think it will stay that way. I'm thinking about changing the bottom "base" from blue to black or dark gray. The transition between the floors is light gray because the wide gutters that I have are gray, plus I got plenty of the smooth light gray bricks. I'm thinking about changing the the base layer on the second floor to black or dark gray as well (to match the ground floor). I'm not too keen on how bare the roof is but I have no concept for how to build a rooftop HVAC and the like. I wish I had more parking up front (real stations have a huge parking lot more often then not for both the marked and unmarked units as well as for employee parking) but then if I got to the point I want it to be I think I'd be taking up too much real estate in the city.

For that there is the garden area outside ;) I'm planning to put a BBQ there and a table and some chairs... though you're right, they probably also need a big screen inside :)

B-PV-4C Every city needs a fire station. Here's my fourth try at it. I got some pics from the intermiediate steps ;) http://i44.tinypic.com/1584d90.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/5d2dxf.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/mi1mj4.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/2v0bjio.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/2ngu93c.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/2u4sls3.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2449xfa.jpg And here is the completed (for now) product: http://i44.tinypic.com/w8rmlt.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/14y8utt.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/23woh2h.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/dwqixz.jpg

I know.... they probably should be more SUV like then truck like but I'm personally more partial to trucks and I don't have a vision yet how to make them more SUV like ;)
-
LOL well... from my work I know how insides of a police station and their vehicle yards look like. To be accurate the wall should be taller and the gates should be "solid" sliding walls :) I always had a problem with their easy access designs of the police stations ... and fire departments as well. Btw, if it wasn't that I am temporarily confined to a 6 foot table with my city it'd be bigger :)

I goofed and didn't do the interior shots as I was building it and for the moment it's not as easy to "split it". I will try to remember to take shots next time I'm improving something ;) Interior is split into jail and "office" area. As you're looking forward there is a cell area behind the left vehicle with two beds and two detainees. From center to the right its all office area with a staircase in the back that leads to the second story (that's the reason for the sloped side of the building). Oh yeah, and the cars are modified Brickmaster sets (I modeled them a bit after the 7942 fire truck (I liked the way it looked) and the helicopter is a modified 7741 (I used the roof from 4436 for the chopper).

B-PV-4B It's been many years since I was as fascinated with Legos as I am now. My wife is laughing at me but is feeding my addiction with frequent visits to various Lego stores and is a perfect partner in crime when it comes to PAB or grab bags :) In any case, here's my 4th revision of a Police Station. I think I'm almost done (like we're ever done with our buildings). Most of the source material for it came from grab bags and PAB walls. One thing that I"m still hoping for is to pickup some material for the entry gates to get them to match to each other. http://i41.tinypic.com/1zh2lp1.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/16c9843.jpg Edit by Phred: Added down-sized image to post.

So... I have some old bricks that are somewhat discolored. The white ones for example have this yellowish tint to them. So I'm wondering if anyone has tried cleaning bricks with bleach or a similar product? Btw, toothpaste didn't seem to do anything :(

Definately cool looking!

What grade of an incline is best for the new train sets?
Ludzik replied to Ludzik's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks guys! So I'm almost there... it seems that with my 1 block then 5 cross pieces I"m at 1 plate too much ;) I also think I need a bigger table :) Or I need to add another table to make an L Shaped town with a track curving around ;) Cool! Great tip. I"ll try to get them today :) -
Ok, maybe not a full fledged Legoholic like some others here but I'm getting there..... When I was a kid some moons ago, I loved playing Legos. I had quite a few sets which I have in turn given to my sister so that my nephew could play with them (there is a 13 year difference between her and me and me and him). Anyways, I kept a few small sets for myself and with the exception of purchasing couple small star wars sets (just the micro vehicles) couple years ago I haven't given Lego's much thought. Recently though with other kids in my family getting to the Lego age, I have started looking at getting some for myself and well... in a matter of couple months I got a few of them ;) My main excuse was that everytime there was a buy one get one 50% off I'd get one for myself and one for a gift :D (I have q few gifts stashed ready for upcoming family events). Anyways, my pride and joy is a the red train right now as well as the DK Brickmaster City book :) I got others that are fun as well, but at the moment those are my two favourite ones. In the past, I haven't usually been much for keeping the models built according to the instructions though now I think I found a happy medium... I keep the ones I like close to what the instructions show and others I improve or use for parts :) Also it helps that I live near 5 Lego stores and that I travel on and off to places that have them as well... I think I mastered the ability to max out the 7.99 pick a brick cup with what I want and more :)

Hello, Recently I got hooked again on an old hobby/fascination and my wife started me right :) There was a train set (3677) waiting for me under the Christmas Tree :) It ran fine under the Christmas Tree but then after the holidays it was time to move it elsewhere.... since it didn't fit on my old bench I bought a table and now there is a dedicated Lego City area... anyways I digress. With the new "home" for my slowly starting Lego City I ran into an issue of building a train "overpass". I"m trying to raise the tracks so that in one spot vehicles can drive underneath the tracks. I've been playing with various inclines and now I'm at 1 full size brick height increase for every five cross beams on the tracks. It seems that it's almost a struggle for the train to climb that. Of course I could crank the speed but there is a turn involved there so I figured there must be a magic number someplace out there ;)
