Owners of Rivendell (or the minifigs at least) could you do me a favour and let me know if Aragorn/Boromir's hair piece fits over Gimli/Not Gloin's beard piece? Thanks.

Updating Your Lord of the Rings Minifigures
Seaber replied to Seaber's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Very nice! A few more updates figures. First up are the wizards Gandalf the White and Radagast the Brown, now with with Skirt Pieces to match Gandalf the Grey. I think Gandalf looks great, however Radagast looks even more plain than with his unprinted legs though. Next up are a couple of Hobbit figures of the same character. The 2012-14 sets gave Bain much too modern a haircut, and the Luke Skywalker piece in Dark Tan/Medium Dark Flesh looks much better in my opinion. The face still looks a bit too young though! I think 11/13 Dwarves in the Hobbit had great figures, but Kili had a very strange face and an inaccurate hairpiece (I think it was so he could wear a quiver) and Ori who was probably the worst figure. I gave Kili a better hairpiece in my last post but have updated him now with a better face, and for Ori he now has the Mid length legs, a molded slingshot, and a beard piece to make him look more Dwarfish. I think the Will hairpiece from Stranger Things in reddish brown would be an improvement, but so far it does not exist I that colour. -
Now Rivendell is out, I thought it was a good time to start this thread. There is already a similar one for Star Wars, Harry Potter, DC, MCU and Pirates of the Caribbean, so one for The Lord of the Rings (as well as The Hobbit and any other Middle Earth) figures seems appropriate. If you haven't looked at any of the threads for the other themes, it's a place to share and show off any updates to improve your LOTR figures. It will be a while before I get Rivendell, so here are some I have put together in the meantime. Tom Bombadil, with his famous yellow boots. He is based on his depiction in the video games, as well as probably the best known illustration. I'm quite happy with him, although a more detailed torso and brown legs with boots would be better. There is also his appearance on the cards which features one of the crew of LOTR dressed by weta as Tom. I think Bilbo's Lake Town garb would look good for this, but unfortunately I don't thi k there are any dark blue legs with yellow boots. Next, here is one I threw together quickly, some useful figures to help you populate Rivendell. Using the 2012-14 elf hair pieces and Princess Leia's old torso, CMF Elf and Centaur, the old Snape and some other torsos from the Hobbit sets Finally, here are some of Thorin's company with medium legs. Thankfully all legs colours for the Dwarfs are available, these are the only ones I had to hand. I also gave Kili a better looking hair piece, although he could also do with an updated face. I hope to have some more soon, it would be great to see others work!

I'd love a remake of El Dorado or the Trading Post, but I'd also really like a new faction over the Red/Blue coats from 2009-15. I know the flags cost a fair bit, but the red and blue torsos are readily available, cheap, and still look good. A new colour, like orange or white, or even green coats to represent Armada would be lovely to see. I hope its not too troubling to pair them with the classic Soldier/Guard locations No matter the faction, it'd be nice to see a Pirate raft trying to steal in and grab a treasure chest, with some lovely new torso designs.

Yes - that card game also names many of the participants at the Council of Elrond and has entries for characters like Tom Bombadil and Erkenbrand who did not make it into the films, as well as naming members at the Council of Elrond - some real like Erestor and Galdor and some fiction like a man from Lake Town and another from Dale . I think that while haired Dwarf was also portrayed by John Rhys Davies but not completely sure. Anyway, I don't think the card game is canon at all, but that design for Gloin has been used in the video game War in the North... ... as well as Lego's own LOTR game:

I've got plenty of 2022 sets to catch up on before I get any from this year so look forward to seeing people's thoughts when they have them in hand. All the talk of the GWP means I'll likely pick some 22/23 sets up as and when that comes out. Are we anticipating the Cho polybag and something from Gringotts and that's it?

I made a few rough edits using those brickset photos. I can only upload one at a time though 😁 Firstly, Legolas. I gave the old figure the new legs and the new one the old face to see if I plan to mix and match them. I like the blue on the 2012 undershirt, otherwise I think the new figure is better in all departments except the face. The belt almost lines up for the old figure though, so will be worth trying in person. I think the old face works well with the new hair and will be updating Elrond and Arwen to the old hair/head combo as they just look more Elven that way. For the other two Elves, perhaps the drunk butler from the Hobbit sets 🙂

The Hobbit should have been done in two films, one isn't long enough. The Return of the King would have benefitted from being split in two, despite being brilliant as it is. More LOTR stuff (ROP, Rohirrim, new films, the Gollum video game) can only be good news for Lego - keeping the franchise front and centre will hopefully increase more copies of Rivendell being sold and then further sets being developed.
-
The 2018 style Quidditch torsos ha e the robes printed on, I was never sure why lego paired them with cloth capes. Little fabric pieces to go on the minifigure legs would have been good though. The newer jumpers would look good with capes on, though.

Gimli carries five axes over the films, up until Moria it is only four, then as you say he picks up his double headed Axe in Balin's Tomb. His walking axe is the one included in the Rivendell set and has been done very well. The other three axes are less interesting. Two are throwing axes so are quite small (2-3 studs long would be about right) and his utility axe which looks quite like a Rohan axe, so if we ever got a new element for that, it could be reused for Gimli.

It's definitely Orthanc, but the map is cramped up anyway so nothing is really in the correct place. It's a nice idea but not quite worked. Has it been pointed out the elves in the ring creation mural have the 2012-14 elf hair piece?

The maraca piece (also used as a flask in Harry Potter) would work quite well I think.

Feels to me like a wired have been crossed somewhere. Why cancel one of the best selling lines when there is a new video game out this year (not for a minute saying there will be sets based on it, but it will keep HP/Hogwarts more in the spotlight than ever), there are so many locations, characters and varients to make without repeating (so no Star Wars Snowspeeders sets every 2 years), there is no big theme to replace the shelf space (IJ will have a few sets and perhaps LotR will get a wave, but not the quantity of HP sets which hang around for years), and the line is constantly praised and has some of the best sets the company has ever made?

Thanks for the confirmation 🙂 It would have been a bit funny if it was called Hogwarts:Battle of Hogwarts I guess 😁

76414 Expecto Patronum - Really not sure what to make of this. I missed the promobricks video, did they say it was a diorama like set, or only that it might be based on price? I know it's been raised before that is doesn't have 'Hogwarts' in the set name, so may not be a modular castle build, but if it was the set could take place in the Astronomy Classroom (where Harry trains) and Gryffindor Tower with the torn Fat Lady Portrait. With DADA, Divination and Hospital Wing sets are currently on shelves, those two rooms would pretty much complete the Hogwarts rooms from PoA and could be set up similar to last year's Dumbledore's Office, which combined the office and library. 76415 The Battle of Hogwarts - I imagine we'll see plenty of sets based on the BoH in future as there is plenty of action with multiple characters and locations (wooden bridge, viaduct, forbidden forest, boathouse, courtyard, etc) so hopefully people don't get upset if their favourite bit doesn't get included. To be honest there is enough material for a whole wave of BoH sets! My personal preference would include the wooden bridge or boat house. 76416 Quidditch Trunk - I'm looking forward to this. I hope it comes with the 2018-22 style of Quidditch robes which do not require the Cape, although fully expect them to have the new style. If we get 6 minifigs, one for each house, I hope Lee Jordan comes in some form as well as either Hooch or McGonnagall in her cold weather hat. 76417 Gringotts Bank - ahh, the big one for some on here. As long as it is compatible with Da, all is well. I'm sure the below ground features will be detachable so the bank can be displayed either with the street or with the vaults. I would hope some more shops would be included, but would rather keep Knockturn Alley and Leaky Cauldron for another day, and bundle in a few other shops with them so we can complete the street. 76419 The Knight Bus - I'm sure the set will look great, but as for figures I'm not sure the ones from 2019 can be improved too much. It could include Tom or Fudge I suppose. 76421 Dobby the House Elf - not too bothered, apart from I may well be interested in the figure it comes with and any stickers.

I hope there is a change in design for the Hogwarts sections, although I have enjoyed both the 2018-20 and 2021-present styles. Hopefully any changes in future can be best of both. 1. A return to exteriors based on how the buildings appear in the films and a return to grey roofs from the 18-20 sets would be preferable, with uniform window piece colours. For example, all window frames reddish brown and window panes black, rather than the mix we've had recently. 2. The interiors have really improved recently, so it would be good to keep getting sets with full interiors, unlike the 2018 Great Hall with its barren rooms in the tower. 3. Since the start being able to connect buildings in multiple places to other modules is great and should be continued, but the modular style of the 2021-present shouldn't be to the detraction of the first point. 4. There are still many parts of Hogwarts that have never had a proper set, like the Owlery, Bell Towers and Boathouse. Even though the Owlery is serperate from the castle, having it as a connectable module would be fine, the same for the Boathouse. Using a more recognisably shaped building like the Bell Towers would have been a good way of doing the 2023 Room of Requirement. Like the 2020 Astronomy Tower had the Viaduct Entrance as the location for Slughorn's Party, the new ROR could have replaced the miscellaneous exterior for something more pleasant. 5. Bridges! There are four very different looking bridges in Hogwarts, all could be constructed as a module between two buildings, allowing the longer Viaduct and Wooden Bridge to be extended with extra sets to the buyer's content. They're also a good way of getting height without using too many pieces. At least two of the bridges get destroyed too, so play features right there.

It's brilliant that Rita is coming out, an excellent character to include in a book too. Like Percy she's recognisable but not essential to many scenes that scream set potential. There are still four other variants of her, so she could show up again at some point if this theme is as evergreen as many say (and I hope) it is. Won't bother updating the list on here as only put it out a couple of days ago 😁 I also think a third CMS would be great and worthwhile, as well as easy to populate, but there is no indication we will get another at this time. I've never spent more than £4 on the book with figure, just be patient for a bargain is my advice :)

Unnamed yes. They look a like the characters but the list is just about who has definitely been named, so Borgin who was in the same pack has been ticked off I agree to an extent, but we're in a situation where Susan Bones and Hannah Abbot (who do not speak) have two figs each since 2018 and characters like Narcissa and Rita have 0, I think it's a case of fitting characters to the scene rather than building sets around major characters. I take you point, it's a list of unmade characters and not a wishlist. I'd also suggest there are some varients of existing characters more important than some of the new characters in the list. By the way, with the new Gryffindor Quidditch jumper I think that's the TWENTIETH different Gryffindor torso since 2018!
-
Yes it was, my point was Lego have made expensive sets on themes with far smaller catchments than LOTR.
-
When we got Sinistra in 2020 (and Pince the following year) I expanded the list to include absolutely every named character in the films that're from the books. I wasn't making a judgement on if they were much wanted or likely to be produced. For example, if we got a movie only character for example, say, Nigel at any point, I'd add Faye and Bem and Kellah to the list - not that I have much interest in them 😁
-
I'm afraid I agree with those saying LOTR's pull isn't as great as others on here may think. That's not to say kids don't like it (they do) or it isn't great (it is), but franchises like Star Wars, MCU, Harry Potter, Pokemon, the Simpson, Batman and other Disney stuff seem to be higher up the list of things parents buy for their children, and most of those have Lego themes to go along with them. However, the Muppets got a CMS, Avatar got a range of sets and Queer Eye got a large set, and LOTR would be more popular than those three I think.
-
Ahh, fair enough, both blond male Hufflepuff after all! The OotP and HBP games were very easy and focused on exploration more than adventures of the first three, but are so expensive now.

Now the full range of figures from the wave is known, time for the list of minifigure we're still missing from Harry Potter: PS: Lee Jordan, Tom the barman, Dedalus Diggle, Doris Crockford, Kings Cross Guard, Prof Vector, Bloody Baron, Fat Friar, Augusta Longbottom (9) COS: Millicent Bukstrode, Mr and Mrs Mason, Ernie Macmillain, Penelope Clearwater (6) POA: Aunt Marge (1) GOF: Roger Davies, Eloise Midgen, Rita Skeeter, Barry Crouch Senior, Prof Karkaroff, Amos Diggory, Frank Bryce (7) OOTP: Mrs Figg, Zacharias Smith, Madame Bones, John Dawlish, Antonin Dolohov, Prof Grubbly-Plank (6) HBP: Narcissa Malfoy, Alecto Carrow, Amycus Carrow, Thofinn Rowle, Romilda Vane, Leanne, Katie Bell, Cormac McLaggan, Marcus Belby (9) DH: Prof Burbage, Bill Weasley, Mundungus Fletcher, Elphius Doge, Scabior, Rufus Scrimgeour, Xenophilius Lovegood, Aunt Muriel, Bathilda Bagshot, Aberforth Dumbledore, Dirk Cresswell (11) In terms of creatures, we still need the Troll in the Dungeons, the Unicorn, Inferi, Giants and Fang. There are some dragons we need too - Norbert and the Ironbelly being the obvious two, I guess you could include the other three dragons from the first task. We've also not yet had Errol, Trevor, or Firenze as named characters, although we've had their species in sets. On the flip side, we've had Griphook but no other Goblins. By my count that's now fewer than 50 characters we need. I suppose some more could be added from the Gryffindor and Slytherin Quidditch teams though.

Unless next year they go for some sort of general Hogwarts banner, like the one that came in the 2021 Chamber of Secrets set, perhaps with a Great Hall interior, it's hard to see the banners getting a second wave. I guess they could do Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang? If not, I wonder if we'll return to Moments style sets, or something new for the winter wave gimmicky sets. Interesting that we get the Quidditch jumpers without the cloth capes in these sets, but the 2018 Quidditch Match and CMS Malfoy figure all got capes when they were not needed
