  1. this is a great review!! i like the train, really. it looks better than when i first saw it a while back. the only thing that's bugging me, is the roof just on top of the windscreen. and ah yes... the price will be bugging me too... i'm afraid...
  2. well actually, i was in my dark age when UFO was released, but I remember the display cases at the shopping mall. they were filled with UFO-spaceships and I really really really loved them. As it turned out , i needed 2 more years to break through my dark age, but succeeded in getting all of the sets later on... I never heard of a "controversy" though. Sure, UFO was kinda like "Space, on it's way down in a free fall", nothing close to classic space, blacktron or space police, but still, not that bad... besides, Lego as a company was going down as well, including most of the Lego themes... the bad things about UFO, imo: 1) horrible printing; 2) (too many?) huuuuge parts; 3) average minifigs (the head was dreadfull) 4) colors were not exciting
  3. what a great project! good to see you're finally dealing with men's stuff, instead of the kid's toys, like city, or star wars, or friends! welcome to the elite Lego fans, buddy! ok... i just had to say that... i think you could buy old gray parts, like the wedges, plates, in (fairly) new conditiion. the older ISD is a great parts source for that, i guess... what most of all strikes me, is the good condition of the white helmets. Most of mine are worn out, broken or damaged in whatever way the trans yellow parts look fairly good as well, as far as I can see.
  4. the worst, imo, is the Mars Mission trike set 7694. My god, what a horrible thing. I liked the first year of Mars Mission, but it went seriously down hill afterwards
  5. thanks for all the brilliant work on this, guys! hope everything goes smoothly
  6. too many minifigs?! you can never have enough figs in a set, imo! i think the train has some nice features, like the black windows, but i think the nose has too many sharp edges... that bit just doesn't look the way it's supposed to... still, a nice set
  7. insectoids... hm... sounds interesting, even though i never was a HUGE fan of the theme, i'm glad it's not going to be yet another "space police". we'll see
  8. ah... finaly it's there... i've been waiting for this review for a while now, great to read it at last when i first saw the series, i was quite happy. i think the printing of the figs is of high quality and there's some good variety within the series. Sure, there are "rehashes", we're, after all, at number 8, more than 100 figs have passed by now, i guess it's only natural to see some parts and themes return. I don't really care about that, honestly... some of the figs aren't all that exciting... true... but since i always get multiples, i'll just mix the parts with others and create variations of my own anyway... the conquistador is my favourite, but i don't think i'll get an army of those. no army-building figs this time... that's crap, but i'll live... kinda like the lederhosen-guy and the actor too
  9. congrats to you all! the Academy is most defenitely one of the major pilars of the community, something unique, the envy of many other internet communities! keep up the good work!
  10. Praiter Yed - 3 ACPin - 2
  11. now this is a really cool MOC! i like the WWII kinda feeling... however... from a millitary point of view, IMO, i would have to question the survivability of the design. it's incredibly vulnerable to Air-to-surface rockets or airplane guns. it has a massive backside that may be well armored but it's a serious blind spot and i guess it only takes a bigger gun to tear it apart... Attack this one from behind, i'd say, and they'll never know what hit him... It's also BIG! How is this thing going to hide for enemies? it's not as if you park this between a couple of trees and put a couple of leaves over it... i would also add some radar equipement, even though primitive, cos i do see this model as a support ship for infantry, but i don't see this as a scout. imo, it doens't have the means to do much scouting. i also have to question the "walker - option". many people just LOVE armed walkers (and actually, i like them too), but i just can't see the benefit of legs compared to wheels or tracked vehicles in general. why would this walker for instance, be easier and cheaper to produce and maintain, especially in the field, than tracked vehicles? I don't really see this walker do any better in the Ardennes, than the average tank, in terms of mobility and flexibilty... still, i'd love to see the next models. you should do some dioramas... makes it a bit less theoretical, and a bit more realistic...
  12. great review! ice planet... hm... i loved the theme, but not the sets... for some reason i never quite liked the color combination, especially the trans-red just didn't do it for me. For a small set, this wasn't bad at all though.
  13. this looks really great! i would add 1x1 trans-blue round plates to create a lader beam, coming from one of the canons, or both
  14. these are pretty sweet! love the colors and the over all design, however, i would drop the inverted slopes at the front of the rotors. they just don't look really well like that, imo
  15. not bad at all! you seem to have caught the spyrius spirit pretty well. Spyrius wasn't on my hot list either though...
  16. excellent review! well, what to say about this set? it's a masterpiece, probably the number 1 set of the nineties... it's got style, great colors, great design, smashing minifigs... maybe that's the only weaker spot: you only get classic smilies. Maybe this set could have been a good moment to launch printed minifig heads in "town"... oh well... enough to drool about anyway... ah yes... another spot: too rare and too expensive... at that time, i thought "ok... next year we'll get new monorail sets, like a different train, something cheaper, cos i can't afford this now..." ... still can't afford a new one, really... a shame that this is a "one off"... it would have been great to have had a set like "Lego's train engine shed, no 10027" for these monorails... oh well...
  17. actually, i have no idea what this theme is all about, but it looks reaaaally great! I would buy this stuff, no question! the fact that this is considered "space", is a huuuuge bonus for me...as a... as a space nerd
  18. you sum it up pretty well, imo...
  19. well the good thing is that they're doing a classic sw space ship again for a UCS. Not so sure about the cockpit design though. he's been very creative to get the round curves really well, i would have chosen different parts though...
  20. well done! congratulations!
  21. they look very cool! however, I wouldn't wanna call them "blacktron". imo, blacktron is associated with the colors black and yellow. Your mocs are great, but they're not Blacktron to me...
  22. they are pretty nice indeed! on a sidenote, I wonder why people always wanna "rebuild" classic space stuff, really. you don't really see people "rebuilding" yellow castle or an old firestation. it's almost a subtheme of the genre. Mind you, I don't mind at all, in fact, quite a few mocs are very good. still, I would prefer to build a new model that only follows the principles of classic space than an actual "rebuild" of an old classic space set...
  23. well i think both models look pretty nice, but there's no "wow-factor", i'm sorry to say. Yes it's great to have something different for a change, but this isn't Unimog-league imo... still, i'll get both at some point.
  24. well done!
  25. excellent review indeed! i saw the house in the shop today, but I didn't get it though. It sure looks like a great set to have. I like the colors and the creativity. If there's one down site, it's the fact that it only has one minifig, which is, imo, one short... kids will wanna play with the set and that usually requires a boy and a girl... so yes, playability (8/10) is a bit too high...
