As much as I am loving the Ninja Turtles line, I would not be shocked if we didn't get a second wave, just because these initial offerings have covered so much ground in the franchise. You got a sewer, you got turtle transportation, you got a killer robot, evil ninjas, alien brains... Plus every major character from the show has been covered. The line is a pretty concise snapshot of the Ninja Turtles. On the otherhand, they've invested enough in new and very specific parts (Kraangs and evil mutants and Turtle shells/heads) that I could see them expecting to get a lot more traction out of this theme.

Holy crap, this project's the best! I would buy all the Muppet Legos. Especially if there were a Muppet Theater. All the movie stars from other Lego licensed themes would host the show. "It's the Muppet Show, with our very special guest star, Johnny Depp...uh, still in his pirate make up...Yaaaaaaaaay!"

I want to add a modular street level, too. Just testing weight tolerance, to see how much I can securely fit.

That is Eric. The white Misfit hair is from Arealight Customs. The blue Misfit hair, along with Rio's purple hair, the drumsticks, and the pink and green guitars are Brickforge. And Synergy may have to be next year, lol.

ASK HERE MOC-stuck? Ask for general building advice here!
Hobbestimus replied to mrklaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would guess that Lego isn't going to scale exactly - it's stuck to the proportions of the bricks in a way the real world isn't. I would suggest using your own judgment as to what looks good. The other thing about scaling Lego, is that Lego is great for diorama tricks like forced perspective, which would introduce different "scales" in the same model. -

Hey! I don't know that I have any help to offer, but I'd be excited to see your eventual results. I guess you'll want to google Lego sets that are similar to what you want for your Joes - i.e., if you're looking for a winter battle scene, google Lego Hoth dioramas and such to see how snow is built up and all. Good luck on your quest. -
MOC: Merry Christmas to you all :)
Hobbestimus replied to LEGO Family's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great stuff! Merry Christmas, all! -
One of my wife's favorite things from childhood is Jem and the Holograms, so this Christmas I decided to make her a whole Lego line-up of her favorite cartoon. So, I bought a bunch of official Lego sets that were appropriate for the theme, I assembled the relevant bits from each set. Photographed the sets with custom minifigures of the show's cast. Then used those photos to create (reusable) "packaging" for each set. Then I disassembled every set piece-by-piece and placed it all into its custom package for her to assemble on Christmas morning. There's not much MOCing going on, since I wanted her to be able to follow the official instructions to build them herself, but here are my photoshops, followed by some pictures of the final packaging. This morning when she opened it, she briefly thought they were official Lego product. So I guess I did good.

At the very least I will probably upgrade my Lion-O. Maybe let him drive around in Lennox's Lion Buggy. I'm more interested in Chima for the gator options - Leatherhead, Killer Croc, etc...Thanks for the kind words! Glad you like the work.

Yeah, my camera can be hit and miss. It's an old Canon and I need an upgrade. Here's what it looks like in just basic room lighting: Any advice on what to look for in a new camera, with an eye towards photographing tiny Lego bits?

Thanks, guys! Crownie, the dojo floor is from this set.

UPDATED WITH FINAL BUILD HERE I think TLG did a great job with the details on the Turtle Lair Attack, but I wanted to take those details and open the set up a bit. So, using the pieces and designs from that set as a base, I built little vignettes for different areas in the Turtle Lair, which could be set end-to-end to make a more complete playset. First is the entrance from the street: Now the ladder going down is directly beneath the manhole opening. I used some non-TLG parts here, but they were too thematically perfect to ignore. Next is the Turtle's Kitchen, with a minifridge, improvised plumbing, and lots of counter space: That leads into the living room, where Donatello doesn't want to give up his seat next to April, even though Leo is missing and episode of Space Heroes: From there we head into the gym, complete with punching bag and kinda-screen accurate hanging Shredder dummy. The Turtle's have spray painted the wall with an affirmation of mutant power to inspire them during their workouts: That leads into Splinter's Dojo: And finally, at the end of it all, Don's workshop: Here's the whole sewer set up:

I was trying to light these for a dim "sewer" look. Not sure that was the best call, but here they are anyway: "Booyakasha!" by Hobbestimus, on Flickr "Can I get you a slice?" by Hobbestimus, on Flickr "This is my favorite show!" by Hobbestimus, on Flickr "Listen, my sons..." by Hobbestimus, on Flickr

I got the Sewer Lair yesterday. Built the official set right away, but I've already pulled it apart for some MOCing. It's full of great details, great pieces in unique colors, and really fantastic minifigs. But the final set just didn't do it for me. I'm trying to retain a lot of those awesome details in a new configuration.

Hmmmm...what's the easiest way to attach a green balloon to a Lego made glider?

He uses a COUPLE of Mega Blok parts, but he's 95% Lego...and 1% sticker.

Just grabbed the Lair from Lego Shop@Home! Soon...soon...

All great, but Woody's expression really sells the "New Toy" shot. Excellent work.
-
Great work! I like the T-Rex, but I have a habit of mixing my Lego with other toys, too.

My Toys R Us had what I would call a usual Lego markup on the TMNT sets, but the in-store prices were at least cheaper than TRU.com. Plus I got 10% off on the haul for opening the TRU credit card.

I don't have the Turtle Lair yet, unfortunately.
