Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Flipz replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Can we move forward to the battle? I'm not accepting the offer, but Arthur's not going to take the first aggressive action--thus why I've deliberately kept silent.- 500 replies

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Flipz replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Arthur sighs. "Lind, I've learned from...a certain night...that having too much respect for the enemy can be...dangerous." He looks to Hoke, then looks away in shame. He turns back to Lupine. "Mr. Lupine, I was hired, as a professional, to guard this house and specifically this wine, so that's what I'm going to do. I'd like to believe that the Shadeaux are more capable of good than most of the other Houses, but truth be told I've found that my seeing good in people generally precedes their imminent death...case in point, Donny and Violetta, who I helped to kill, and your Broker and little Cindy, who I also helped to kill. I offered each my full protection and aid if they turned from their path, and each chose to stand and fight instead. So I'm not going to hold my breath. In the end, it's a job, plain and simple, just like yours." "As for what I'm going to do when Heroica is done with me, well...they've already revoked my protection. And due to the decision that led to that action, either I'm going to 'die' when that happens, or else I'll 'live', live to see it, your grandson, his grandson, and his grandson all crumble to dust. Hel, I might even live after the world itself gets torn apart. Either way--I of all people don't need to worry about what I'm going to do with my life before I die--I've got all the time in the world to figure it out."- 500 replies

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Flipz replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
After some thought, I'd probably prefer the Decamon Sacrifice, Summon, and Decamodifying Expert; like the old version of a Black Knight's Mortal Hit, few people would actually use the skill, and when they did it would more than likely prove more disadvantageous than helpful. I also think that, while I prefer the randomness of the "[#] random monsters" setup, the "card's level times [#]" setup is more necessary for the cards to have any practical use at all; a Level 30 Evoker's monsters dish out 30-60 damage (depending on elemental weakness), while with the random summoning aspect the highest Level any summon could be would be 10-20--and even with the level-multiplier setup, a Level 10 card (which is SUPREMELY rare) would do a max of 50-100 damage (again, depending on element), and that number could never be upgraded or increased. -

"Hmpf." Arthur tosses Alexandre his Shackles of War. "They tried to. We stopped them. Care to explain why you're here? Oh, and--" Arthur raises his Dauntlet Index non-threateningly, using it to gesture Lupine to move to Arthur's left. "Away from the wine, please."- 500 replies

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Flipz replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Guts de-equips his Blessed Amulet to equip the Mugger's Mask. OOC: Also, it still hasn't been noted that he switched out his Pugilist's Gloves in order to equip the Overkill Gloves, which he definitely did...so I guess he's de-equipping the Jester's Hat for the Mugger's Mask.- 500 replies

Overall, I really liked Quest 100. I'll say more when 102 ends, but I'm really pleased that in between the one-off "mission" style Quests, we're getting a few more options along the lines of full-on campaigns. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that we're getting more Wolfgang members who are actual people instead of neatly-wrapped parcels of loot and experience. This is what I and others have been asking for for a long time, ever since you teased us with Violetta and Steerpike in 66, and I feel like you delivered big time. You already know Walbartan has captured my interest (I'm already working out how I might incorporate her into the next Ace Assassin Quest), and Hodurr was frickin' hilarious--there needs to be another Quest with him helping the Heroes. Of the Final Four, only Detraehd Loc seemed completely devoid of personality, but I get the impression that she might have been an intentional case. It was also neat to get to see a bit more of Elphaba, and I strongly suspect there will be some pretty serious consequences if and when she returns to Eubric--i.e. perhaps her never coming back at all. I guess I should take a moment here to address again the content you graciously allowed me to use in 104 (which, as has been noted, was originally slated as optional content for Quest 100). First of all, thank you for creating Euflear--you have no idea what e means to me, and e will always have a special place in my heart. Secondly, the fact that you had so much material prepared for a completely optional location speaks VOLUMES to your preparation as a QM, as well as the unprecedented amount of freedom you give your players. I referred to Quest 100 as more of a campaign than a Quest, and this is one of the ways it's most evident: in how much world you thought up for the players to explore. It's a level of commitment all of us QM should strive for. Since I agree with everything that's already been said about most of the Heroes, I guess I'll move on to the elephant in the room: Throlar. Lord Duvors, you've said you don't intend to cause problems, so please take a moment to listen to my advice to you: I do want to commend Sandy for dealing so quickly and so well with such a huge disruption--you turned what could possibly have been a Quest-ruining moment and turned it into an awesome turning point in the Quest, so well done there. As usual, Sandy, your build were gorgeous--I think we're getting spoiled. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Vega again, but in another way I almost feel like Babaleth's part in the world is done now--with the Tower gone, and Heroes given a black name with both Vega and the witches, the region just doesn't seem like it needs to be explored any longer; we almost already know what the outcome of Heroes in Babaleth would be. Anyway, I'm rambling at this point, so I'll just close by reiterating: awesome, awesome Quest, Sandy.

Under the Guardian Angel's protection, the party lets their guard down--too much, as it turns out, as both Russel and Matthias miss one of their attacks each. Forunately, both come back strong, leaving Chaos Beast of Zoot B helplessly Blinded and on its last legs as its final seconds tick by. Nerwen slams her mace into Valentine, leaving him vulnerable, while Purpearl blasts Beast A with a radiant lance of light and Alexis weakens the entire horde. The enemies continue to bleed out and burn, Beast B badly enough that it will not survive the next Round. Seraphiel nods to Nerwen and vanishes. All five enemies still stand against all seven Heroes. Guest QM Note: Hello again! Since Alexis hasn't selected her action but it's been 24 hours already, I'll choose for her. Round 1 of Valentine's Day: >Malty sings Lucky Chant (Malty: -3 Ether) Nerwen (Mourning Star) vs. Valentine - Special Guard Guardian Angel >XX (XX Hand Cannon) vs. Master Chaos Beast - Damage (XX: 40/2=20 damage) >Alexis (Cat O' Nine Tails) vs. Rudimentary Chaos Beast - Hit Special Damage (All enemies: 20+46=66/2=33/5=7 damage; All enemies except Valentine: Bleeding -10) >Russel (Crabspirator) vs. Chaos Beast of Zoot (A) - SHIELD: Mug Hit (Chaos Beast of Zoot A: 16*3=48+21=69/2=35 damage + Blinded + Bleeding -10) >Purpearl (Magical Staff, Diamond) vs. Chaos Beast of Zoot (A) - SHIELD: Magic Burst of Water Damage (All enemies: 15+16=31 Water-elemental damage; All enemies except Valentine: Bleeding -10; Purpearl: -1 Ether) >Russel (Crabspirator) vs. Chaos Beast of Zoot (B) - Hit Special Damage (Chaos Beast of Zoot B: 16+21=37/2=19 damage + Blinded + Bleeding -10) >Matthias swaps Dapper Hat for Quickdraw Quiver >Matthias (Peashooter) vs. Chaos Beast of Zoot (B) - Damage Critical Hit (Chaos Beast of Zoot B: 2*2=4+15=19 damage + Burning -2 + Bleeding -10) Rudimentary Chaos Beast: -20 (bleeding) Master Chaos Beast: -20 (bleeding) Chaos Beast of Zoot A: -30 (bleeding) Chaos Beast of Zoot B: -42 (-40 Bleeding + -2 Burning) As directed by Matthias, Malty makes his Lucky Chant a good one; under the cover of his singing, the party inflicts enough tick damage to crash a Minecraft server. Nerwen starts out by calling once again on Seraphiel for aid--though not quite in time to save XX from injury. Alexis cracks the whip she looted from Violetta the Cat Burglar and, though she barely cracks the Chaos Beasts' skin, black ink gushes out from all of them. Russel leaps from Pigley to slash the first Chaos Beast of Zoot, then nicks the second with his backswing as he scuttled back to his porcine companion. Purpearl, not to be outdone, unleashes a tidal wave that only widens the creatures' wounds, while Matthias finishes up by blasting a bullet into the bulbous black bonnet of the second Beast of Zoot. Mine's last in line, and I'm mainly looking for players above Level 30 (though the high 20s are also acceptable). I won't be bringing anyone below Level 20, though, sorry. If people are desperate to Quest with me, though, I will be hosting the next party in the Fields of Glory, and there's no predetermined Level bracket for that one. As a reminder, if you want to adventure in the Fields, just sign up! You don't necessarily need a party.
-
No; the remaining three Quests will be by WBD, Kinto, and me. Speaking of my Quest, it offers Guild of Invision reputation, and is aimed primarily at higher-leveled Heroes.

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Flipz replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
OOC: By the way, please note that the Gold figure I just gave does not account for the Gold that Guts picked up as loot from dead enemies--I've been keeping that mentally separate for this express purpose. Of the 107 total gold dropped over the course of the battle, Hoke picked up 65, Alexandre picked up 2, Thormanil picked up 10 (incorrectly attributed to Guts; Thormy is actually the one who killed Knick, and yes I've accounted for that in Guts' total Overkill earnings ), and Guts picked up 30 (which, as I've said, I did not add to his previous gold count); please redistribute the gold as necessary according to the following distribution: Loot division from the continuous battle: Arthur: Macabre Collar (Accessory, wearer is immune to Insta-kill and doomed) Fur Leggings (SP: 1, Beast enemies do not deal free hits to the wearer, footwear) Lind: Mugger's Mask (Protects from loss of gold from gold stealing enemies, headwear) Indescribable Pole (WP: 8, Staff) Trickster's Mask of the Human - (suitable for anyone, changes the wearer into a human of the same gender when worn, accessory) Alexandre: Butcher's Cleaver (WP: 5, throwing weapon) Mr. Snuggles (Accessory, +1 HP, +1 Power, +1 SP, cannot be imbued with scrolls, suitable for barbarians) 32 Gold Thormanil: Repeater Crossbow (WP: 7, crossbow. Hastened for first round of combat while equipped.) Schoolyard Sword (WP: 8 great sword) 30 Gold Hoke: Sharkskin Gloves Wasabi Blade 30 gold Guts: Fire Bomb Pronged Gauntlet (WP: 6 dagger) 15 gold Arthur lends the Fur Leggings to Lind. If Lind lends the Mugger's Mask to Guts, Guts equips it. Arthur then separates his gold into a separate bag and hands it to Guts for safekeeping. "I suggest we all do the same. Alex, please lend my Noble Mask to Thormanil, he has a free slot and could use the extra gold. Please also equip my Zap-Tap Badge as you also have an extra Artifact slot. Hopefully, that and our other preparations should be enough to leave us fully ready."- 500 replies

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Flipz replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
OOC: I ran through the entire topic, and Guts should have 2449 gold; as I said in PM, I'll wait until after the final battle to split Overkill earnings. "For now, Lind, I think you should equip the Fur Leggings, and let Guts or Hoke equip your Mugger's Mask; furthermore, we should all temporarily give our Gold to whoever wears the mask." We're dividing loot via PM at the moment, I'll update here once we've reached a consensus as to who gets what.- 500 replies

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Flipz replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Updated actions: Round 27 Battle Order and Actions Hoke casts Blindness on Miss Fortune from the Front Row Alex throws the Unlucky Horseshoe at Miss Fortune from the Back Row Arthur melee attacks Miss Fortune from the Front Row with the Gladiator Trident Lind does nothing from the Front Row Thormanil attacks with Dragonsbane Lance from the Front Row IF Miss Fortune is Jinxed, Guts attacks Miss Fortune from the Front Row; otherwise he attacks her from the Back Row (Instant Items) IF at or below half health, Guts drinks a Grand Potion IF Miss Fortune is Jinxed, Guts attacks Miss Fortune from the Front Row; otherwise he attacks her from the Back Row (Instant Items) IF at or below half health, Guts drinks a Grand Potion OOC: You may autoroll this for two Rounds, with Heroes in danger of being KO'd using Potions or Grand Potions to heal themselves instead of attacking. (If Hoke successfully Blinds her and/or Arthur rolls Phalanx, he'll then Fragile her.) If anyone's KO'd, Guts will use an Instant Items action to revive them (if he isn't already using it to heal himself).- 500 replies

Speaking of which, Pyro is also doing some builds for my Halloween Quest, but if anyone else would like to help out, I'll happily accept--there's quite a few sets, and I don't want to kill Pyro with the workload.

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Flipz replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
It does cost quite a bit of Ether to summon them, though, although looking at it again I see it's not a variable Ether cost, so maybe it's not as expensive as I thought it'd be. In that case, though, then maybe it should cost Ether to make the card monsters attack? Or is the summoning cost enough? -
Since I brought it up in Expert Class Discussion, I'll also reiterate it here: might I suggest that Skeleton Decoys be changed to absorb a specified number of Free Hits rather than a certain amount of HP's worth? (A la the vines in 93 and the horses in Baltarok.) It would do a lot to make Skeleton Decoys remain relevant even at higher levels. Also, a question that hasn't been answered: is a Dragoon's Dragon affected by Encouraged? To me it makes logical sense that the Dragoon could share their mead with their pet/companion, but I could see it going either way; the Encouragement from a Skirmisher, however, would logically apply to both Dragoon and Dragon, though, at least as far as I see it.

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Flipz replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Suggestion: the summoned creatures can take a number of hits equal to the card's level (a la the vines in 93 and the horses in Baltarok); that way, they can prevent Free Hits and don't have to cost Ether to make attack, but they also then don't require a lot of extra work to figure out in terms of setting HP. Speaking of which, the "absorbs a number of hits" idea would be an ideal rework for the Skeleton Decoy to make it more relevant in the constantly scaling environment of the game. -

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Flipz replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
OOC: It's fine, putting Alex first gives me a very good chance of getting Phalanx which will balance out Hoke not casting his Scroll. Even though we often characterize the situation as "roleplay versus stats", it's not an actual dichotomy. I don't have to be "roleplaying guy" OR "stats and rules guy" any more than I have to be "attracted to males" OR "attracted to females" or "male" OR "female"--it's absolutely possible to be both or to fluctuate between the available options. TL;DR, people are more complicated than the little boxes we try to put each other in.- 500 replies

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Flipz replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
For the sake of ending this pointless argument: Lind retroactively removed the Medal of Glory on a previous Round of doing nothing, and this one he and Hoke waste their turns trading. Swap Arthur and Alex in the Battle Order, so Arthur can get 4 rolls against Miss Fortune (since Alex is going first, he's definitely using the Unlucky Horseshoe). Sorry for lack of formatting, on mobile.- 500 replies
