Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Flipz replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
I still think it can be salvaged. 4. MIST/POOR FORECAST: The weather mage spends 1 ether to envelop the target in a mystic mist, making it take double damage from all elemental attacks until the end of the next round regardless of its type or immunities. Optionally, the weather mage can spend 1 ether to change the weather based on the chosen gem for the following round (see Weather & Disasters). If all ether is depleted, nothing happens. -

I'd nerf it to be "weak to any elements" rather than "weak to all elements". The latter stacks, which can get really nuts really fast, while the former is a flat x2 multiplier if an incoming attack is at all elemental (like a Fragile that's exclusive to elemental attacks). -

Mist is awesome. That is all. -
You've done a great job of keeping updates consistent this entire time (and of being transparent when you couldn't be), which helps a LOT. I have a LOT to say about 102 once everything is said and done.

Your attention please! Due to unexpected circumstances, Pyro won't be able to finish the sets for 118 in time. I am, therefore, in urgent need of set-building assistance; Pyro has completed about half of the sets already, but there are still a bit more than a dozen to go, including a few that may appear early on in the Quest. If anyone is able to help me build what I need, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

I'm more referring to this: ...Oh. Could have sworn there was a second "s" the first time I read it. Oh, well.
-
Also: I don't know, maybe there is a little resemblance...

Hoples really is incompetent--on the one hand, he hired two Heroes known to have very positive relationships to the Wolfgang (who specifically betrayed the Watch in the past!), and on the other, he hired the guy who spent all of a particular Grogmas Eve enchanting his stuff while he let a bunch of Town Watch members die to eldritch abominations.

In the past, it's been run as curing it. (I believe with Slowed specifically, actually. )

Arthur slides the glowing weapon over to Annienal before pocketing the small grating stone. "He's all yours."

There really isn't much of a demand for Ella's Pie, is there? I mean, granted, I myself am not going to use it, but I'm not an Ether-user anymore; I'm a little surprised no one's shown even the slightest interest in it. (Maybe someone with Lichen armor, since then the health hit doesn't hurt so much?)
-
"Hmm...I paid 150 Gold for it, but frankly I overpaid at the time. I'd be willing to part with it for that Grating Stone of yours, if you're willing." Arthur looks over the odd being who had approached him, a chill running down his spine. "Ah...no, I don't believe I'd be willing to sell this particular weapon. It has...unique properties. No offense, but I would prefer to lend it to a friend than to sell it to a stranger." Hmmm...I wonder...? Arthur glances around the Hall, searching for a one-eyed Warden, but cannot seem to locate his quarry. "That's a lesson I wish I'd learned a long time ago," Arthur mentions ruefully.

That's when you temporarily trade to start upgrading your allies' equipment instead.

I know you're somewhat new here, Lind, so allow me to give you a little advice as a player: Never. EVER. Give the QM ideas. Now, speaking as a QM: This gives me an idea...

As he passes the Quest board, Arthur heaves his pack, for once realizing its weight. I really should get rid of some of this stuff, he thinks to himself. Quickly sorting out some of his less-critical gear, the Skirmisher places a notice on the board. Items for Sale! Accepting any reasonable offers. • Ammit (WP:6, Greatsword, user gains 5 Ether for each kill) • Cloak of Deception (Free hits against the wearer have a 1/6 chance to be redirected to a random opponent; Backwear, suitable for anyone), • Ella's Pie (Permanently boosts max. ether by 5 but permanently decreases max. health by 5 when consumed.), If interested in these or any other items I own, please contact Arthur Regulus with your offer. Satisfied with his work, Arthur makes his way back to Hybros' table and resumes his seat, nodding respectfully to Guts as he does so.

The latter.

"I have, actually. He sort of developed a sort of obsession with me, actually--a whole Chaos versus Order sort of deal. He's a 'destroy the world and remake it in my image' type of fellow, though the most arrogant one I've ever met. Would you believe he actually had the gall to post a Quest notice asking for Heroes to try to stop him, bragging outright that they wouldn't be able to? " He shakes his head. "Not to say he isn't dangerous, but he's trying way too hard to impress and/or intimidate people he claims are beneath his attention." "Anyway, I think I'll head back to the Hall. Have time for one last drink before you set off again? "

Might look into that, thanks.

Sudden realization: multipliers aren't just better than additive bonuses, they're ridiculously so. Compare my WP:20 unimbued weapon versus my WP:8 weapon, the latter of which a full 12 WP (that is, 1,740 Gold in upgrades) lower than the former: Arthur using Zoot's Rebel (WP:20) versus Mechanical enemy: 20+33=53 damage. Arthur using Spider Leg (WP:8, Lightning-elemental) versus Mechanical enemy: 8+33=41*2=82 damage. Difference: 82-53=29 damage Even comparing Critical Hits, it's Arthur Critical Hit using Zoot's Rebel (WP:20) versus Mechanical enemy: 20*2=40+33=73 damage. Arthur Critical Hit using Spider Leg (WP:8, Lightning-elemental) versus Mechanical enemy: 8*2=16+33=49*2=98 damage. Difference: 98-73=25 damage Even for a Dragoon the multiplier is superior: Dragoon Arthur High Assault using Zoot's Rebel (WP:20) versus Mechanical enemy: 20*5=100+33=133 damage. Dragoon Arthur High Assault using Spider Leg (WP:8, Lightning-elemental) versus Mechanical enemy: 8*5=40+33=73*2=146 damage. Difference: 146-133=13 damage It would take a Critical Hit that deals 9x the WP of the weapon (added to the Level) for Zoot's Rebel to hit a Mechanical enemy harder than the Spider Leg. And that's with a non-optimal enemy for the weapon; if we change the test to be, say, Zoot's Rebel and the Dauntlet Index versus a Humanoid enemy, the Dauntlet Index's lead becomes even higher, quite possibly to the point where Zoot's Rebel could never catch up (I calculated up to a 80,000 WP multiplier before I gave up, since the Dauntlet Index's lead seemed to be increasing rather than shrinking). TL;DR: Don't fret about having a low WP too much because, as Bobby might say, "multipliers are hella wack, yo."

"Alexis? Nah. I've gotten over what happened between us." Arthur looks away. "Besides, that part of my life is...sort of over now." Arthur thinks back to that certain person he had met, the only one who might have understood...but she was surely long gone by now--she herself had said Heroica didn't really interest her. Ironic--the first time in ages I've considered a normal life, and only now I realize how utterly I've ruined my chances of ever having one. Arthur begins to wander the Marketplace, happening to meander through Anwyl's wares as he continues speaking to Althior. "The Watch...? What, you're going to be working for them on your Quest? Good luck--they didn't take to me very well. Well, some of 'em did, but it seems like the only ones who get promoted these days are the ones who hate Heroes. They don't seem to 'get' the way being a Hero works, either, especially when it comes to the Veterans' spells." The Skirmisher notices Anwyl glowering at him for his loitering, so without really thinking about it her slides over his Dauntlet Index, his Amethyst, and 50 gold. "Me? Well, I helped a princess find a lost storybook, cleared out a bunch of Oculoids from The Regret's old base, and helped save R'klif from Pongcanis--though that last one I try not to think too much about. Had a really obnoxious dwarf along for the ride, and just barely held myself back from killing the little bastard." To Arthur's surprise, Anwyl quickly slides the newly-imbued weapon back to him; apparently it was a slow day for business. He shrugs, then slides another 50 Gold to the "dwarf" along with his Spider Leg and Topaz, though he notes this time that the smithy's glare does not abate when the Skirmisher produces the coin. Arthur decides to change the subject. "Anyway, my most recent mission was to guard a winery for the Shadeaux from a so-called 'master thief'. Don't see what the fuss was about, really, he was more irritating than legitimately threatening."
-
Arthur rushes up to Althior as he approaches Fabian. "Althior! Oh, hello, again, Fabian. Please, forgive my intrusion--actually, while we wait, perhaps you could imbue my spare Scroll of Blindness and Confusion into my cloak?" Arthur hands the Shadeaux Cloak along with 100 Gold over to Fabian. "We barely had a moment to speak before. How have you been? You barely spoke of anything besides business in our Z-mails, I'd love to hear about what you've been up to since our last meeting."
-
"Shame. Still, I owe you my thanks for trying...and for remembering to return my coin." As Arthur goes to add the Gold to his purse, a scrap of parchment falls out of his pack...a scrap of parchment that had once been his most prized possession. "Here," he says, handing the Scroll of Luck to the Chi Monk, "perhaps you'd like to borrow this for a while? I've little use for it these days, and few of my current companions make use of Ether. I'd rather see it used than not, and truth be told I'm not sure if I'm up to the task of Questing right now." "Hello, Torc. Pleased to meet you." The Skirmisher inclines his head respectfully to the Dragon, the burnet beast barely smaller than his old ally Vipera. "It is a formidable responsibility, taking on the care of a Dragon. I wish you luck in your endeavor." Arthur pats the pocket where the Shadeaux invitation is stored. "I'd appreciate the company, Hoke, especially if you're not--" "How did--? Never mind. Well, it appears you have been chosen. If you're still here in three days' time, I'd be glad to have you and Torc at my side." Just then, he sees Althior rise from his chair. "Althior, wait up! Excuse me," he says to his companions, following the Necromancer to the Marketplace.

I thought you were a Ji Pei enthusiast, your gems make you far better suited for a Chi Monk setup than a Cannoneer one.
-
Preach! Actually, though, it's been getting better for Shadeaux recently...and worse for all the other Houses.
-
That's fine--I'm not really interested in Questing for a looooong while anyway. To tell the truth, I'm sort of put off of playing the game as a player right now, so it's better for me to shift my focus back to QM-ing anyway.
