  1. I assume the name for the first level of Dragon's Wrath is a reference to 120? I share my concerns with Swils, though I think I know the answers to most of our questions (but still, better to confirm now than it come up later). If we keep the name of the Dragoon's 2 roll as High Assault, perhaps the third level of Dragon's Wrath could be called Skyward Strike? (Or actually, we could just use Skyward Strike in place of the name Jump Hit directly ) I don't know, I like Level 50 being the point at which everything evens out and becoming more of a numbers game. Level 50 is attainable, with effort, for players without a Medal of Glory; anything higher ends up being somewhat ridiculous. (And besides, isn't outpacing content one of the drawbacks of the Medal anyway? )
  2. Arthur coughs, nearly choking on his chicken. "Okay, honor-less I'll take, but thief?"
  3. "Indeed, though maintaining human form can be a...difficult proposition. I've become practiced at it over time, but that doesn't make it easy by any stretch." Arthur smiled ruefully at Tesni's observation of Miirym. "I suppose I should be thankful that she's not yet large enough to carry off livestock. Lord Knyghton would have thrown a fit if she'd carried away any of the Lion Knights' sheep or cattle!" Miirym glares at Arthur, her haughty gaze conveying her annoyance at the implication, but Arthur ignores her. She can handle being embarrassed a little, what with her recent behavior. "Ah...hi, Lex--ahem, hello Alexis. Any of those jobs...ah...interesting?" Arthur wriggles uncomfortably, reaching for his helmet, but at the last moment he decides to leave the black bat-winged helm upon his lap and instead digs in his pack for something to occupy his hands. He unexpectedly finds two Chicken Drumsticks--ah, right, from that trade I made in that weird Decamon tournament thing--and begins to munch on them absently while Alexis talks; better an old, cold chicken leg in his mouth than his own foot, after all.
  4. In a way, the Master Classes already fill that role. I don't think we'd need 20 of them, but I would like to see at least two different options for each base class (other than Mime). Here's what we have so far: Barbarian-Knight-Rogue (Paragon) Cleric-Mage-Ranger (Prophet) And here's what I'd suggest (including Virtuoso, with my own modification and further alteration of course): Barbarian-Cleric-Rogue (Virtuoso) Knight-Mage-Ranger (Some sort of Mystic Warden of some kind) I'd also like to see a Barbarian-Ranger-Rogue combo (i.e. Hunter meets Assassin), but that'd obviously end poorly. Here's my own take on Virtuoso, by the way: Virtuoso Cleric – barbarian– rogue These heroic warrior-poets have mastered a wide range of skills. · Additional Health: +20 · Additional Ether: +10 · Weapons: Virtuosos wield weapons suitable for clerics, barbarians and rogues, including scrolls and battle songs. · Job Traits: Healing (See Cleric), Restoration (See Paragon), Gamble (See Rogue Thief), Battle Songs (See Minstrel), Know When to Run – Virtuosos can steal the drops of one enemy while fleeing battle, Regale – Virtuosos can whip up tales just about anyone will believe. · Battle Style: Poetic: Virtuosos apply all their talents to fight poetic injustice. 1. SHIELD: Deus Ex Machina: The virtuoso drains health from all enemies equal to the virtuoso's level, added to their weapon power multiplied by the number of injured allies in the party at the cost of 1 Ether; the drained health is then distributed evenly to all allies. The virtuoso also gains gold equal to the number of allies healed times the number of enemies damaged. 2. EXTRA CRITICAL POISONED HIT/HEAL MUCH MORE: The virtuoso attacks the target with venomous, Poison-inducing words and deals damage equal to three times their weapon power added to their level. Alternatively, the virtuoso can restore health to themselves or one of their allies equal to the power of their extra critical hit, at the cost of 1 ether. 3. POISONED HIT/HEAL: The virtuoso attacks the target with venomous, Poison-inducing words and deals damage equal to their weapon power added to their level. Alternatively, the virtuoso can and restore health to themselves or one of their allies equal to the power of their hit, at the cost of 1 ether. 4. SWINDLE/HEAL LESS: The virtuoso steals health equal to twice the enemy’s level, plus the same amount of gold and ether if they have either. Alternatively, the virtuoso can restore health to themselves or one of their allies equal to their level, at the cost of 1 ether. 5. POISONOUS DEFENSE/NO HEAL: The virtuoso is struck by the opponent’s attack, but their caustic swearing reply poisons the opponent in the process. Alternatively, any attempt of healing an ally fails. 6. SPECIAL MIRROR/NO HEAL: The virtuoso is struck by the opponent’s special skill, but reflects it back to cause the same effect on the opponent. Alternatively, any attempt of healing fails. Was also thinking that perhaps it would be balanced slightly more if the Virtuoso doesn't start off with the default songs of the Minstrel, but has to make due exclusively with extra songs. OH! Suggested SHIELD-skill for the Mystic Warden: 1. SHIELD: Omnislash: The Mystic Warden enchants their weapon with one of the elements available to them at the cost of 1 Ether, then attacks the target twice and every other enemy once. If the target survives, the Mystic Warden then spends an additional 1 Ether to Mark the target, causing all damage to and from the enemy party during the next Round to be redirected to the target. Gotta say, I'm really liking some of the ideas I'm coming up with for this theoretical Mystic Warden class.

The most interesting entries appeared to have started roughly a month prior to the attacks: Blood-Stained Note: The next few pages were bloody and smeared beyond comprehension, but the final entry was, by some miracle, readable. Written in a rushed script, the ink was not even completely dry on the page.
  6. I actually wouldn't mind seeing more Master Classes for different combinations of base classes (like Pie has done here with Clerics, Barbarians, and Rogues); Paragon is extremely Knightly, while Prophet is strongly Clerical and Mage-ical, so we could do with some stronger Barbarian, Rogue, and Ranger influences (with Virtuoso easily accomplishing two out of three). More specifically regarding Virtuoso, I do think that the Nurture aspect should go, since that only makes sense on Prophet due to the Ranger influence, but by the same token it should get Special Mirror and deal poison like Witch.
  7. Well, for starters, High Assault would be right out, and Dragon's Wrath would lose half (or more, depending on Level tier!) of its power. I had kinda taken that as a given, given the suggested mechanic of the rolls. I don't like the idea of making it a flat effect, since a.) it makes it super easy to build immunities to nullify them, and b.) would get in the way of the Dragoon being able to give up their own turn to revive their partner. Another option: the Dragon and Dragoon share a single health pool. If one gets Knocked Out, the other has to stop fighting in order to tend to their partner. EDIT: Actually, that last bit would work pretty well even with separate health pools; it does get in the way of the Dragoon being able to revive the Dragon, but it is pretty darn simple...
  8. I'd just go with, "if the Dragon is down at the end of the battle, you don't get experience". Should be plenty motivation to keep both halves of the class alive.
  9. He succeeded on his Special Guard roll; it's not *immune* immune, it's "the attack failed, so as a good storyteller I'll actually explain why it failed" immune.
  10. I thought it gave Dual-Strike regardless, but was only suitable to classes that can wield axes?
  11. I actually don't see Skrall as actually using a Plaything. It just seems so...out of character for him to seek power like that. I see him carrying a Plaything around, of course--like he did all the way into the Wren finale--but only as a means of protecting its power, safeguarding the world from being exposed to it. His real power is in his steadfastness, not his strength (though he has plenty of that, too ). I'm pretty sure that's still the record for most Hero-controlled minions in a single battle.
  12. Arthur shakes his head amusedly. Ah, the old days. Turning back to Tesni, he continues their conversation. "Like I was saying, my Plaything came from Dastan, but I've...well...it's taken a unique form." Shifting next to Tesni to ensure he could not be observed, Arthur slowly wills a black, inky halberd to emerge from his arm...then withdraw, the arm then transforming into an inky tentacle. Finally, he shoots a short jet of ink out of his palm, which shifts and forms back into its original broomstick shape. "It's...well, it's me. I named myself Zoot's Rebel, and merged its power with my own." Arthur shifts uncomfortably, transforming the weaponized extension of himself back into the more currently useful halberd shape and allowing it to solidify, making it seem for all intents and purposes like an ordinary halberd. "I can't say it was my smartest choice--there are more than a few downsides to being a living weapon of eternal Chaos--but it's a choice I made, and one I have to live with. Just like Xu, I guess, or Wren. You'd think it'd get easier over time to accept one's choices, good or bad, but I still find myself getting caught up in all the 'maybes' and 'what ifs' from time to time. Then again, I suppose I do have eternity to learn to kick that particular habit." Miirym flutters backward at the sudden appearance of an elven Mage in her claimed dominion. She hisses, then speaks in the dragon tongue, even knowing that no mere Mage would possess the Animal Talk necessary to understand her speech. "<Foolish Mage! One would think that an elf would know better than to interfere in the affairs of Dragons, let alone the most noble Dragon of all!>" Ruffling her scales indignantly and flaring her nostrils to release a puff of smoke at the impertinent Mage, she whooshes past his pointy elven ear and glides down gracefully to Arthur's chair, her scaly snout facing pointedly away from both him and Warlen. "So, you've decided to join us, eh?" Miirym keeps her snout raised and her gaze fixed on a distant point in space unoccupied by anything noticeable to humanoidkind. Arthur tries again. "Miirym, this is Tesni, Tesni, Miirym." This time, the young Dragon turns and looks at Tesni, her pupils contracting as she contemplates the Berserker. At length, she sniffs, then nods in dismissive respect, the warrior woman apparently having been considered worth acknowledging. Arthur sighs. "I apologize. Sometimes I really don't know what to do with her. Any advice on raising a Dragon?" he chuckles.
  13. "Indeed there are. Hoke has one as well, from the final battle. Mine had its origins in Dastan--" Arthur starts a little, and looks over at the grinning Mage. So much for showing Tesni... "Sorry, but it's not for sale." Arthur glances up at Miirym, leaping lightly from rafter to rafter, seemingly unconcerned with the goings-on of the Heroes below. "I...think I'll be returning to the path of Ether soon, and this Scroll will be of great use to me then...besides, I used to be known as the Scroll Mage of Heroica. How would it look if I just started selling them off entirely?" Arthur grins, despite his internal irritation at the interruption.
  14. I think the hardest thing for me regarding your Quests, Legonater, are that they can be a little slow to follow. Part of it's your parties, of course, but some of it is pacing--there ends up being a lot of time (pages, post lengths, and literal time) in between the plot points, making them harder to follow. I'm re-reading through 64 now, and I keep finding myself having to go back to previous pages to remind myself who a certain character is, what the Heroes are doing, what their overall goal is, etc. I expect that out of a Quest in progress, but it's a bit of a curveball trying to read through 64 and 113. I'll also echo Zepher's sentiments about characters--while I love that these characters are part of a military organization (and thus act like members of a military would, including wearing proper identical uniforms), part of that similarity in visual design means that they need to stand out even more in dialogue, so the readers can remember who is who. Aves and Quellir, in particular, are difficult to tell apart in both Quests, while Dovanna was the most confusing one in 113, getting confused for both Quellir and Dovanna in my mind at different points. The reason I bring this up is that despite this trouble, I always knew who Eyric was, even though tonally and personality-wise he was almost indistinguishable from Quellir. That said, I love the setting, I love the overall tone and plotline of your Quests, I'd just prefer them to be a tad more accessible. I'll post my thoughts on 120 later.
  15. Arthur passes the Gold and Grating Stone to Tesni before applying the Polish to his Shadeaux Cloak. "Yes, those were Atramor's thoughts as well. Still, in the end it was Jun's report that convinced Lady Shanxian to move forward with the rebellion. For what it's worth, as I understand it the loss of life from Lady Shanxian's plan was much less than had Kai Tsi's rebellion succeeded. I suppose it's open to interpretation whether the lives that were lost were an acceptable cost." "Speaking of your blades...how does Dryw fare? Might it wish to meet its latest kin?"
  16. Since I've been asking pretty much everyone via PM, I thought I'd just throw it out there: what immunities should I pick up for the Blue Hand Shield (since I plan to eventually pick up a shield-bearing class again at some point in the future)? Hexed and Petrified are a given, but what would be the best finishers? (I'd prefer effects that I can't protect against just by imbuing a Scroll into my cloak.) Also, I'm thinking about redoing my Hero Stats page (again). I'm wondering if it'd be at all useful to QMs to just list the name of each of my Artifacts in the QM-Friendly stats section, and then list the full descriptions in a simple list in my Hero Stats page (for example, see below). I don't know, it just seems like having each Artifact start its own line would be easier to read than a whole bunch of Artifacts and descriptions jumbled together on the same line; new line=different Artifact seems simpler.
  17. Or, as a Cleric, he could cast a Scroll of Poisoning on his weapon before every battle; it would come at a steep (but fair) Ether cost, but it is possible (and unlike perma-poisoning, one can choose which weapon they'd want to cast Poisoning on).
  18. "Indeed. The way Dyric told it, it sounded a lot like Dastan--speaking of which, Tarn wanted me to pass on his well wishes. He left for Dastan with Ella, about a year ago now. I wonder what he would have thought of Lady Shanxian's rebellion?" "Beautiful...and ill. When we arrived at Ai Xurong, the City in the Clouds, I could tell why the Aoi's architects--like Lady Shanxian--are so revered. At the same time, the posturing, the classism, the authoritarian self-superiority of the Council of the Blue Hand and the Aoi in general...even as one unfamiliar with Xu's customs I knew better than to protest, but the things I saw there were not encouraging. Then a miracle happened--though not without cost. It turned out that Lady Shanxian and Monsignore Legonardo had organized a coup against the Council, and we were caught up in it. Innocent lives were lost along the way...but the end result, I think, will be a better future for Xu, one that better represents the needs of its people." Arthur chuckles a little as the Mage carries off his new Scroll. Not long ago--well, actually, yes, quite long ago now, where had the years gone?--he had similarly searched for such Scrolls. As Tesni closes her pack once more, Arthur notices a by now familiar tin inside. "Speaking of business," he says, already reaching for his own pack, "I just noticed you seem to have a jar of Bright Polish there. I've gotten rather attached to my cloak, so I've been trying to improve it as much as I can--my average going price for Bright polish is in the realm of 120 gold, or I'd be happy to trade you a Grating Stone and 70 Gold instead if you wish."
  19. The only assistance I could offer would be if Annie went Mystic Knight and Enchanted up Arthur's Blue Hand Shield, in exchange for getting the Crescent Shield once Purpearl's done with it.
  20. The great oaken doors of the Hall part, admitting a helmeted man in heavy armor, accompanied by a swift blur of gold that sweeps past him on leathern wings and settles in the ceiling rafters. Arthur sighs. Even though Miirym had behaved herself on the voyage home and the subsequent weeks of recuperation, she had grown no less petulant, no more cooperative. In spite of his training, he had no clue how to reach his draconic companion--he had even visited Bric'bay seeking Luke and Lord Knyghton for advice, though to his dismay the former had not been present to aid him. His only hope now was to return to his work in Heroica, in hopes of forging the bond of trust that had somehow been broken between them. Seeing a familiar face across the way, he starts towards her, but a moment later decides to divert momentarily to the Quest board. He scans the three visible notices, nonplussed, until spotting a name that had weighed heavily upon his mind as of late. Zeigfried. Hesitating but a moment to double-check the contents of the pitch, Arthur signs his name to Quest 125. "Note to self: ask...her...to put in a good word when I go to visit," the once--and perhaps future--Mage murmurs to himself. His business with the Board complete, Arthur returns his attention to the woman he had first sighted upon his entrance...a woman whose weapon called to him with the voice of his own flesh. "Tesni Hightribe," Arthur says by way of greeting, removing his bat-winged helm and laying it beside him as he takes a seat next to the Berserker. "It's been a while. Much has happened since we last spoke." He winces slightly at the sight of the Quilin Blade hanging from her belt, still a bit unsure if he had performed as well as he could have in Xu. "For instance," he remarks, indicating the weapon, "I just helped the last owner of that blade of yours enact a...regime change in Xu. Wasn't the mission we'd signed up for, of course, but...well, hopefully it works out. I'm confident in Lady Ji Pei's allies." He leans back in his chair, relaxing his muscles, worn from the journeys to and from Bric'bay. "So what about you? I heard you were in Baltarok with Haldor and Dyric. It sounded...intense."
  21. Sandy, you have a lot more faith in the loot rolls than I do. If I was running that Fields battle, every single one of those goddamn sheep would end up dropping Raw Meat, I just know it. This is the season of class changes, it seems...that's a minimum of four different characters planning to side-grade to a different class (that I know of), plus *loses count* a LOT more advancing from basic to Advanced or Advanced to Expert.
  22. Darn you guys for killing the Alchemists before they could use up their overpowered loot! Important Notice for 118: There might be a day or two's pause while I finish writing up all these notes and put the finishing touches on the sets (they're...interesting, to say the least ). 24. Eh, Artisan is already enough. Fashionista is what actually makes the class unique. (Although I do have to ask: can an Artisan use soulbound items? I'd think not, because, well, Soulbound, but it's worth confirming.)
  25. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Speaking of Roderick, I think I mentioned it post-92 but never got a response: did Henry recognize his son's sword or not? I made a point of Arthur showing it off prominently, but obviously he himself didn't know about Henry's relation to Roderick.
