  1. Arthur hesitates a moment before attempting to forecast Cold weather. "We're going to be taking a lot of Free Hits even if this works. Maybe we should have Alexis attack Broody Bear in case she can get a Grim Reaper?" Arthur glances over at his cousin, clearly concerned for her safety.
  2. Arthur watches Althior and Alexis suddenly come together to nearly solve the situation, feeling a little left out until he notices Althior's slip-up. "I think you went backwards a step, Althior." Smiling slightly, he filled in the remaining blanks. = Baddie Panda = 4 o'clock, Blue Cup, Cookies, Green Tea Big Sister Bear = 12 o'clock, Magenta Cup, Pie, Black Coffee = Broody Bear = 10 o'clock, Yellow Cup, Croissants, Black Tea = Deaddy Bear = 6 o'clock, White Cup, Cupcakes, Red Tea = Naughty Bear = 2 o'clock, Pink Cup, Pretzels, Milk Coffee = Snooty Bear = 8 o'clock, Red Cup, Donuts, Hot Chocolate The puzzle solved, Arthur pauses to consider the implications of the trial that had been laid before them. "I wonder if this test is for Morgan what the last was for Lilly?" he wonders aloud.
  3. "I think it was the golems that attacked us that did it. Now we know why they had Amara's Garnet--they must have used it to create your doubles." Mayor Persephone nodded. "That's what made us realize we couldn't control this--when our own doubles broke free, attacked us, and fled. Captain Sloane sent some men after them, but..." "At this point I've resigned myself to my whole force being dead. Won't THAT look great on my resume..." the older woman muttered sarcastically. "I won't deny, the urge to smash this lot to bits for what they've done to my town is pretty damn strong. Fortunately for them--or unfortunately, I guess, for the Druid--I'm a little indisposed at the moment. And anyway, it's not my call, it's the Mayor's." The Mayor shrugged. "Call me selfish, but at the moment I don't really care what's done with them. I'm just happy my children--both of my children--are safe." "Selfish. But it's understandable, even if I don't agree with it." "An hour ago, I would have said they were too violent and dangerous to let live. But after what just happened..." He shrugged. "It's up to you, Heroes." At this, Captain Sloane frowned. "Even if we let them live, we can't just let them wander the world unsupervised. They're unstable. At the very least, they'd have to stay with us so we can monitor them. I can't allow them to put anyone else at risk." Amara suddenly jolted upright--or tried to. Both Mallora and the Mayor rushed to her side. "I think I have an idea. At the very least, it should reduce the risks. Dad, can you fetch my Scrolls?" Mayor Persephone hastened across the room, to the same drawer from which he'd retrieved his Scroll of Gossolalia a few minutes before. Pulling out a stack of frail papers, he gingerly handed them over to the Weather Mage, who leafed through them before finding the one she had in mind. "Here we are," she said, "the counterspell to the Perception Filter." She held up a Scroll for the golems to see. "If I cast this, at least you'll be able to see the world as it really is--yourselves as golems, and humans as humans. It's not without risk, though--there's a chance that instead of breaking the spell, it'll break your soul fragment instead, leaving you as a simple, unintelligent golem like most people are used to--a mindless servant to whoever delivers its orders." "You'd still stay with us either way, but to be frank your other option's death. We'd do our best to make it swift, and painless, but there's too much risk in keeping you alive otherwise." "It's your choice," Amara said to the golems, before she turned to the human Heroes, "though you should also have a say. It is technically a fragment of your souls in each of the golems." What would the Heroes decide? QM Note: This will be the final choice of the Quest; please post and/or PM me with the fate you choose for your golem duplicate, and I'll wrap things up tomorrow or Sunday with a conclusion. EDIT: Oh, and since I forgot to mention it, Manfred Ming's loot should be divided, here's the list: Alchemist's Cheatsheet (Suitable for alchemists, 1/3 chance to make two of the same Mixture on rolls of Shield, accessory) Smelling Salts Soma Mulled Wine Diluted Arc Potion Diluted Arc Tonic Wooden Alchemist's Hammer (WP:8 wood-elemental hammer, hollow [nothing])
  4. Arthur swears violently, tears up the notes he's been working on, and zaps the scraps with Lightning to set them aflame, before using his Aquamarine to douse the blaze before it can go out of control. He then starts over, filling in a few squares on a grid, before showing his efforts to his companions. "What do you think, Althior, Alexis? This should work so far, correct?" EDIT: To reformat in K-Nut's format: EDIT 2: aaand alphabetized by bear name = Baddie Panda = ??? o'clock, ??? Cup, ???, ??? Big Sister Bear = 12 o'clock, ??? 5. Your Golem has the three Adamantite shards, while the real you does not (unless you have your golem give them back to you, of course, at which point the real you will have them again while the golem you will not). Er--how about we go with "he went and grabbed a Scroll of Gossolalia at some point", shall we?
  6. The only thing the golem duplicates will drop is the contents of the Inventory section--the Equipment can't be looted.
  7. RE:118: There! It's done! Now I finally don't have to worry about what I have and haven't told my players anymore! And yes, this is the finale, there's no more fights. I mean, unless you want to fight your golem duplicates, which I do have stats for, but you managed to work a happy(-ish) ending out of a Quest that wasn't originally intended to have one. So...kudos, I guess? *collapses from exhaustion*
  8. QM Note: I daresay you will be finding out! Having made their decision, the party stared studiously away... ********* One autumn eve, the night before Hallow's Eve, four Heroes and a Dragon ascended a spiraling staircase, led by me, Mallora Persephone, on a Quest to save my home from disaster. I led the Heroes to the Tower's hidden entrance, an entrance that only my family and Captain Sloane knew of, and urged them to climb quickly. We knew we hadn't much time--we had followed the footprints into one family's home, only to find them dead--slaughtered swiftly just hours before, the marks matching the Heroes' weapons, leading to a chilling conclusion we would come to confirm as we opened the door at the top of the stairs and clambered through... "Mallora!" "Dad!" I threw off my hood and pushed past the Heroes to embrace my father. "Dad." "Before anyone... *cough* asks, they can't hear you. They can't hear any humans. The only reason they can hear me, Dad, and Captain Sloane is that *cough* we excluded ourselves from the second Perception Filter, because we were all there when the spell was cast." "...Perception Filter?" Amara nodded. "It was supposed to make the golems see us humans as fellow golems, but when I cast it again to make the rest of the town forget our laws against Mages, it backfired, and the golems started to see themselves as humans. Then, when they saw their 'golem' counterparts, it triggered an unstoppable psychosis, causing them to try and kill their supposed double. If only I had listened to Carl..." "...what? Amara, what's going on? Why are you and Captain Sloane bleeding?" Just then, I noticed the bloody corpse across the room. "...is that Dr. Ming? "Good riddance," Captain Sloane muttered, her chuckle bringing up blood. She grimaced and forced herself to stop. "Officially, I never said that, by the way." "Officially, I don't think it matters anymore...this town is through. Mallora...Amara...I'm so sorry. I've kept so many secrets trying to protect you, but I've only made things worse in the process. This whole mess is my fault. I owe you all an explanation..." Father's gaze drifted over to the party of golems that had just attacked him. "Unless you five would like to do it instead?" The fearsome five studiously stood staring away from the newcomers. "..." "Don't worry, I can translate for you." What would the parties--Heroes and golems--do?
  9. Pie: Decamon card summons, you should be able to (mostly) control your damage output with those.
  10. King, Vindsval should be Level 10.5, not 11.
  11. QM Note: I truly apologize for this, but I'm having some issues at home. I'll try to sneak in an update when I can.
  12. QM Note: Well, one render took, while the other didn't, so unfortunately no image this update (but there will be one for the next one! ). We're almost through! Round 3 of the Final Four...Fight? >Bartholomew Docken (Darksteel Crossbow) does nothing Thormanil Nihai (Shishkebab) does nothing >Hybros uses Remedy on Arx - (Arx: negative effects removed) >Hybros uses Remedy on Ellaria - (Ellaria: negative effects removed) >Arx does nothing Ellaria uses Potion on Mayor Persephone - Failure! (dodged!) Cecilia Sloane vs. Bartholomew Docken: stands down Mayor Persephone vs. Thormanil Nihai: uses Phoenix Essence on Amara Jing Captain Sloane seemed confused by the party's actions. "...what in Hel?" In an instant, Mayor Persephone was on his feet, discarding his Scrolls and dodging the Druid's aid as he dove for his daughter. "Kennedy, wait!" But my father wouldn't listen. Callously kicking his colleague's corpse off of his weapon, Mayor Persephone poured Phoenix Essence upon my sister, hoping against hope that it would work. "Amara...please..." For several strained seconds, it seemed she was still slain. Then... "*cough* ...Dad. Thank you." THE BATTLE WAS DISCONTINUED! The party received experience for successfully resolving the situation. But as long as you lot aren't trying to kill me, I'm just going to sit down for a moment before Amara's explanation inevitably gives me a headache." Too weak to laugh, Amara merely smiled. The party's celebration was short-lived, however, as a loud grinding noise could be heard from behind a batch of alchemical equipment. "The escape tunnel...but that's impossible...the only people who could open it from that side are..." "I can hear voices," a familiar voice said. "Quickly! They might still be alive!" Amara struggled against her father, who had moved her next to Captain Sloane so as to tend to them more easily. She looked to the party, the tone in her voice conveying to the party the dawning horror her seemingly-blank face could not. "No...they're coming..." She again struggled to sit straighter, as if it would somehow make them take her more seriously. "Listen to me, would-be Heroes! *cough* Don't look. Don't even look. Look and you're dead. It will be fast, faster than you could believe; turn your back, look away, just don't. look." Behind her, an outline of bricks began to recess from the wall and slide away. The party had a split second to choose: look, or look away. What would they decide?
  13. QM Note: I'm in the midst of building the set for the next update; I should be able to update sometime between 12-18 hours from now. Sorry for the delay!
  14. Well, in the rich text editor, half the time I can't start a new paragraph with "Enter" without refreshing the page two or three times, so... The RTE also has this nasty habit of applying formatting to text you don't have selected, while not applying said formatting to some of the text you (think you) do have selected. It's extremely glitchy and doesn't handle complex Heroica formatting very well--as evidenced by the ridiculous code tags I've revealed before, like the editor applying the [ u ] tags six or seven times in a row on Endgame's Round titles.

  16. Dammit, this F****ING EDITOR! I have the dice rolls, but the party stats got COMPLETELY screwed when I rolled for aura generation. I'll take a couple screenshots (since I have the original open in another tab) and post what I do have, but Scuba will have to fix the stats, sorry guys. By the way, in case it's not completely obvious, I HIGHLY suggest we move to a new text editor if we can, I've had it up to here with this one's shenanigans, even in plaintext mode.

  18. I did run a round of the battle a few days ago and PM'd it to him to try and help him out. I could post it if it would help, but I don't want to take responsibility for the rest of the battle, since I'm already trying to wrap up 118 as swiftly as I can.

She breathed heavily through several clearly-cracked ribs. Seeing his only standing ally in danger, Mayor Persephone quickly cast all of his spells, desperately attempting to turn the tide of battle. Despite this, however, the situation still slanted heavily in the party's favor. The Enemies: Golem Cecilia Sloane *Immune to Bleeding, Weakened, Asleep, and Fragile* *Back Row* *Ranged (ignores Row) (3 attacks)* *Commanding Assistance* *Encouraged* Type: Humanoid Level: 85 170 Health: 16/660 Defense: 27 Special: Phalanx - Golem Cecilia crouches behind her shield in close formation with the rest of her party, halving her and their damage taken during the next three Rounds. If Special Damage is rolled against Golem Cecilia while Phalanx is in effect, Phalanx is extended by another three Rounds. Drops: 6-12 Scrap Metal (amount determined by roll) Note: Golem Cecilia attacks with throwing weapons; after three rolls of Damage or three Free Hits, she will move to the Front Row and retrieve her weapons on the next roll of Damage or Free Hit. If for any reason she cannot retrieve her throwing weapons, Golem Cecilia will attack from the Front Row and her attacks will no longer ignore Row. Note 2: Due to her *Commanding Assistance*, all members of the enemy party automatically remain in the same Row as Golem Cecilia Sloane as long as she lives; the trait otherwise works exactly like normal Assistance. Golem Kennedy Persephone *Immune to Confused and Asleep* *Back Row* *Fragile (3 Rounds)* *Encouraged* Type: Humanoid Level: 41 82 Health: 328/500 Ether: 77/77 Defense: 2 Special: Lecture - Golem Mayor Persephone gives the target a proper teaching, using all the scrolls from his inventory and drops at the same time, each with a 2/3 chance of success. Scrolls granting negative effects are directed to the target, while those granting positive effects are aimed at himself. Golem Mayor Persephone can only use as many scrolls as his remaining Ether allows, starting from the one listed first in his inventory. Scrolls that grant pre-existing effects or ones the target is immune to are not used. If all Ether is depleted, nothing happens. Inventory (not dropped): Scroll of Arc Recklessness (Enables casting both the Encouraged Effect and the Fragile Effect on a Hero or Enemy party, each casting costs 5 ether per target and has a 50/50 chance of success.), Scroll of Luck (Grants target the Lucky-effect for one battle. Costs 10 ether.), Drops: (varies by roll) 1-3: Scroll of Arc Confusion (50/50 chance to inflict the confused-effect to all enemies for ether equal to the number of enemies), 100 gold 4-6: Scroll of Wood Warding (1/2 chance to make the target immune to wood for the duration of one battle at the cost of 1 ether), 200 gold Note: Golem Mayor Persephone attacks with a throwing weapon; after one roll of Damage or one Free Hit, he will attempt to move to the Front Row and retrieve his weapon on the next roll of Damage or Free Hit. If for any reason he cannot or does not retrieve his throwing weapon (or if he drops below half health), Golem Mayor Persephone will remain in the Back Row and focus exclusively on casting his scrolls; one random scroll will be chosen, and if the scroll inflicts a positive effect a random ally not currently under the Scroll's effect will be chosen as its target. Each scroll reading has a 2/3 chance of success; if all Ether is depleted, nothing happens. 20. "This should be a decent start--this is all we definitively know, before we have to start making guesses and comparing the results to the clues." "Snooty Bear," he asks, "when you say you sit to the right of the bear that drinks from a yellow cup, do you mean you're seated directly next to him on his right, or could you be seated in either of the two chairs on the right side of the table from them?" OOC: in other words, do you mean "generally to the right" or "directly to the right"?
  21. QM Note: ...well that was quick. I'll probably autoroll in the evening if Sandy or JimBee give me the okay. "Wait, why don't they talk?! They were talking before!" "The spell...he warned us...oh, poor Carl..." "Snap out of it, Amara!" "Please, Amara, I don't want to die!" "Coward." Round 1 of the Final Four Fight! >Bartholomew Docken (Darksteel Crossbow) vs. Manfred Ming - Hit Hit (Manfred Ming: 10+50=60*2=120 damage + Blind) Thormanil Nihai (Shishkebab) vs. Manfred Ming - Hit SHIELD (Manfred Ming: (16*3=48+44+1=93*2*2/2=186+186=372 damage (KO!)); Amara Jing: 44*2=88-3=85 Ice-elemental damage; Cecilia Sloane: 44*2=88-27=61 Ice-elemental damage; Kennedy Persephone: 44*2=88-2=86 Ice-elemental damage) Hybros (Darkness) vs. Manfred Ming Amara Jing - Special Damage Critical Martial Hit (Amara Jing: 33*3=99+8=107*2*2/2=214-3=211 damage; Hybros: -1 Ether) Hybros (Darkness) vs. Manfred Ming Amara Jing - Martial Hit Damage Martial Hit (Amara Jing: 33*2=66+8=74*2*2/2=148-3=145 damage (KO!); Hybros: -1 Ether) >Arx vs. Manfred Ming Amara Jing Cecilia Sloane - Breath Breath (Cecilia Sloane: 44-27=17 Ice-elemental damage) Ellaria (Ignis Fatuus) vs. Amara Jing Cecilia Sloane - Damage SHIELD (Roots of Life - 13+31=44 health restored to party + negative effects removed; Ellaria: -1 Ether) Kennedy Persephone vs. Bartholomew Docken: 41/2=20-23=0 damage The party bulldozed through their foes, first felling Manfred Ming, then Amara Jing, in four swift strikes. "Amara! Noo!" The Fearsome Five then turned their attention to the Mayor, only for his faithful Guard Captain to stand in their way. "You will not harm him, monsters, not while I still draw breath!" The Mayor flung detritus uselessly at the Warden, to no effect, his futile attempts serving only to to showcase his own weakness. It would all be over soon. The Enemies: Golem Cecilia Sloane *Immune to Bleeding, Weakened, Asleep, and Fragile* *Back Row* *Ranged (ignores Row) (3 attacks)* *Commanding Assistance* Type: Humanoid Level: 85 Health: 582/660 Defense: 27 Special: Phalanx - Golem Cecilia crouches behind her shield in close formation with the rest of her party, halving her and their damage taken during the next three Rounds. Golem Kennedy Persephone *Immune to Confused and Asleep* *Back Row* Type: Humanoid Level: 41 Health: 500/500 Ether: 77/77 Defense: 2 Special: Lecture - Golem Mayor Persephone gives the target a proper teaching, using all the scrolls from his inventory and drops at the same time, each with a 2/3 chance of success. 22. Arthur rolls his eyes at Althior's cluelessness about the Ziegfried family tree. Of course, he himself wasn't much better, having only gotten a quick crash course from Valentine before he'd hurried here, but even he remembered that Lilly was Morgan's cousin, not her sister. "I'm afraid we haven't received an invitation, at least not that I heard of. But perhaps we could help you figure out your seating order before we move along?" Arthur whispers to Lilly, "Would 'Big Sis' possibly be Morgan herself? Mom didn't mention if she's older or younger than Merlyn."
  23. *Thinks to self* I feel like I'm forgetting something... *checks Quest I'm playing in* ...megabloks. Arthur post momentarily, folks, sorry I spaced on it!
  24. As the party prepared, they heard voices echoing down the stairs. "What was that?" "The Heroes, maybe? I can hardly dare to hope they've made it through in one piece." "It sounds like them..." "Well, what are we waiting for, un-bar the door!" "Kennedy, wait--" "No! I can't take your paranoia anymore, Sloane!" "For once, Persephone, I agree with you. I'm opening the door for them." The party climbed the sturdy stone stairs, the flight taking a sharp left before curving up along the outer wall of the building. Though it felt like hours, only a few short minutes passed until they arrived in the Alchemists' Lab, the spacious sanctum dominated by soaring crystalline cylinders whose glowing, bubbling contents coated the room in a pale purple glow. After all the fearsome five had been through to rescue the final four survivors of this shattered settlement, the sight they soon saw was shocking, to say the least. "Oh no..." "But that means..." "Carl was right...I should have listened..." "Hey! We can blame ourselves later. Right now, if we want to live, we have to..." PREPARE FOR BATTLE! The Enemies: *Immune to Sealed, Poisoned, and Asleep* *Deals Wood-elemental damage* *Back Row* Golem Manfred Ming Type: Humanoid Level: 46 92 Health: 470/470 Special I: Instant Items - Golem Manfred uses an item from his drops (see Alchemist "Mixture" rules page), then attacks the target with strength equal to his Level. If Golem Manfred has no items in his inventory, Mixture is used instead. Alternatively, if another party member has been defeated, Golem Manfred will use the Phoenix Essence stored in his Hollow Blade to revive them. Used in place of Damage rolls and Free Hits. Special II: Mixture - Golem Manfred mixes random ingredients together and creates surprising new items. Golem Manfred adds one item to his drops; there is a 1/3 chance for him to add two items instead. Drops: Alchemist's Cheatsheet (Suitable for alchemists, 1/3 chance to make two of the same Mixture on rolls of Shield, accessory), Smelling Salts, Soma, Mulled Wine, 2x random Alchemist items (see Alchemist "Mixture" rules page), Wooden Alchemist's Hammer (WP:8 wood-elemental hammer, hollow [Phoenix Essence]) Golem Amara Jing *Immune to Afraid, Sealed, and Doomed* *Deals Wood-elemental damage* *Back Row* *Ranged (Ignores Row)* *Shroud* Type: Humanoid Level: 36 72 Health: 380/3801 Ether: 45/45 Defense: 3 Special I: Forecast - Golem Amara attempts to forecast the Lush weather condition according to Weather Mage rules, at the normal Ether cost. If all Ether is depleted, nothing happens. Used in place of Damage and Free Hits when there is no current weather condition. Special II: Disaster - Golem Amara spends 1 ether to conjure Kudzu (see Weather Mage rules), based on the current weather. If there is currently no weather condition, she instead spends 1 ether to change the weather to Lush for the remainder of the battle, unless it is changed again (see Weather & Disasters). If all ether is depleted, nothing happens. Drops: Emerald, Scroll of Disenchantment (Removes all positive effects from all opponents at the cost of 5 ether.) Note: Golem Amara's attacks cost Ether. If she is Sealed or runs out of Ether, her attacks lose their element and no longer ignore Row. Note 2: Golem Amara Jing's *Shroud*-skill makes her immune to the element the current weather is boosting. Golem Cecilia Sloane *Immune to Bleeding, Weakened, Asleep, and Fragile* *Back Row* *Ranged (ignores Row) (3 attacks)* *Commanding Assistance* Type: Humanoid Level: 85 Health: 660/660 Defense: 27 Special: Phalanx - Golem Cecilia crouches behind her shield in close formation with the rest of her party, halving her and their damage taken during the next three Rounds. Golem Kennedy Persephone *Immune to Confused and Asleep* *Back Row* *(Ranged) Ignores Row (1 attack)* Type: Humanoid Level: 41 82 Health: 500/500 Ether: 77/77 Defense: 2 Special: Lecture - Golem Mayor Persephone gives the target a proper teaching, using all the scrolls from his inventory and drops at the same time, each with a 2/3 chance of success.
