  1. "Alright, good work, friend. Alexandre has some ideas about how best to use these, but before that..." Arthur goes out to wherever the Heroes had stored the spare planks (oops ) and grabs a few planks and a couple of round stakes, along with more nails from the stable. Seeing William's unsuccessful interaction with the Elven horse (even though he couldn't understand what was said), he makes a mental note to revisit the stables later. (OOC: Bold Action ahead, bolding the whole passage would look ugly.) Arthur sets up two T-stands (that is, one plank rests on the ground and one is nailed into a vertical position like an upside-down T), then breaks one plank in half and wedges each half into the handles of the cauldron. He breaks another plank in half and nails each hald to the extended cauldron handles at a 90 degree angle. He grabs a small wooden box from the kitchens (OOC: I'm assuming there'd be SOMETHING that was empty) and sets the cauldron atop it. Finally, he uses a minimal (0 Ether) amound of ice magic to weaken a little of both the 90 degree planks and the top of each T-stand, allowing him to make a hole through them to slide the stick through. He repeats the process for the other cauldron. "There," he says, "that's an easy set-up that'll allow us to pour the oil and water on the elves without having to waste a lot of manpower. We could even tie a rope to the stand and pull it out from afar. Now, can you spare a couple of servants to take these wherever Althior wants them? I like Alexandre's idea, but the decision is Althior's." After talking to the chef, Arthur goes to the stables. Seeing how neglected the majestic beasts seemed in all the commotion, he alerts the stable boy and helps him re-shoe and brush all the horses. Noting how agitated the Elven horse appeared, he took special care to bring it as much comfort as he could.
  2. "Actually, I think we could set something like that up by propping a few boards along the edge of the wall and tying a rope to them. That way, we can set them off when we want to, instead of having to wait for the Elves to do something specific. We'll still want to defend the West wall, though, in case the Elves bring siege weaponry." "Hey, William! Be sure to check the bodies for rope as well, the archer should have some extra. the more rope we have, the better!"
  3. I'm so sad to see you go. I was looking forward to more snark back and forth between you and Hinckley. As for that last statement...well, I guess it's a good thing for you that you don't have a character in the Heroica RPG...
  4. Before going downstairs, Arthur grabs the rope and grappling hook the Archer used to let the Elves scale the wall. He then heads to the Kitchen to talk to the chef.
  5. "Charcoal's easy--scrape some off the torches. Actually, we could probably get tons of it from the forest... Saltpeter's actually not that hard to find--it'll be in the stables, or wherever you've been throwing out your horses' manure. Ask the stable boy. Sulfur, as you said, can be derived from eggs. Put the three together in the proper ratios, and, well...let's just say our options have increased exponentially."
  6. OK, it's official: Pandora and Rufus need to make a summary of every Mafia game on EB, past, present, and future. That mime bit was hilarious! You have a great way of putting things in perspective.
  7. "OK, guys, let's find some saltpeter if we can, as well as sulphur and charcoal. In the meantime, I'm giving everyone in the party a torch for burning ropes and ladders. Now, I'm going downstairs to ask the cook if he's got the boiling oil and water ready, as well as to make more fire bombs. Althior, I think if you ready a Water spell for the same round the fire bombs go off, you should be able to put out the fire before it gets too big so you'll keep the damage to a minimum."
  8. Well, I don't know if it means anything, and I don't know if my report will help, but it's started happening again. At around 8:00 PM Pacific Time (US), EB started timing out sporadically. For several minutes at a time, I was completely unable to load any page. If it helps, most of the trouble happened while trying to change my profile and sig and while using the "jump to page ___" feature in the RPG forum.
  9. I've got an idea: 1.) Drop the whole mafia game thing. 2.) Lock Def and Hinckley in a house together. 3.) Record everything on video. 4.) Rewrite everything into a popular sitcom. 5.) ??? 6.) Profit!
  10. Seconded. Any takers on who would compile this? Anyone?
  11. Thanks, Hinckley! *takes Kudos* Boy, it's been a while since I've had one of these...omnomnom[/semiobscurejoke] I don't think anything can render anything in this game...of life "sane."
  12. "I was wrong, since you can't hit anyone anyway, go ahead and move." OOC: speaking of moving between waves, will our actions be played in rounds (i.e. it takes a certain number of Rounds to get from place to place and we only have so many Rounds between waves), or will it be more along the lines of "I'll let you get away with a reasonable amount of stuff before the Elves return"? Also, is this an OK color for OOC? I'm trying to find one that's reasonably easy to read but not too distracting.
  13. "Alexandre, stay where you are, you can move between waves." EDIT: "Or...not..."
  14. *takes notes so as not to make the same mistake in the future...*
  15. Arthur nods and continues to do what he's been doing (Mounted Scout, Large Stone).
  16. And welcome to new player The WarMocer playing as halfling rogue Sancho Praudfout! Welcome to Heroica, Sancho! Don't forget, in addition to your vial of venom you also start with a potion! Hope you enjoy Heroica!
  17. OOC: That would be nice, thanks. -==IC: Arthur==- "Isabella, wait, never mind they're both too far off. Let's get back in the catapult, and take one more shot at that blasted mounted scout with a large stone."
  18. OOC: Wait, what? I thought Scout A was on top of our tower, threatening us (that's why I chose to jump out of the catapult). If he's still a floor down and won't get up to attack us until next round, then we'll send one last shot off at the mounted scout.
  19. I think yours started out Light-elemental.
  20. Actually, David Morgan-Mar beat the set to explaining it: http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0021.html
  21. You know, for all the complaining we do here, we all tend to forget this point. I think this is exactly how these minifigs were chosen. Perhaps we need a topic discussing the differences between KFOL and AFOL mindset and the results on LEGO supply and demand... :hmm:
  22. "Isabella, it's time. Let the other Mages deal with the mounted Scout, looks like we have to deal with the one on the wall. You attack first, in case you get a chance to Mug him." Unlimbering his Opal, Arthur attempts to encase Scout A's head in a block of ice. (In other words, he casts an Ice spell at Scout A from the Back Row.)
  23. There are scrolls that cause things like sleep, blindness, etc., but they haven't really been used for some reason. (Players really haven't played with effects enough, IMO, it seems to be this subconscious supposition that Effects belong to QM-controlled entities. I hope to see this remedied in the near future, especially now that Quest 22 handed Boomington a weapon with a decent WP AND a stunning effect.) Interestingly enough, you may see more non-combat uses of magic from Quest 17. Doc really wants us to think out of the box with this one, and so creative out-of combat uses of Mage powers will likely be a big part of our between-waves strategies. (Speaking of which...K-nut, if Althior's not gonna do crazy Rube Goldberg/MacGuyver-esque things with his elemental gems, let Arthur use 'em between battles! I've got PLENTY of ideas... ) EDIT: Relatively few Quests have undead or demonic foes, at least compared to the massive number of humanoid enemies. (Hmm...demonic/fire...we need to throw Althior and Arasmyth up against a Balrog. ) I kind of wish that I had taken Amethyst--when I picked Opal, I was thinking of traveling through the forest and meeting dangerous beasts on the roads, and being able to deal decent damage to things like that Dire Wolf from Quest 1. Having read through more of the Quests, though, I see that Amethyst would have been MUCH more useful, and I hope I get some kind of chance to pick one up soon. (Also, Ice seems to be Sarick's trademark, I need to find a different element to master. Not Fire, though--I've got a recurring NPC/shout-out prepared to take care of that one. ) Also, while we're on the topic of gemstones: I propose that the traditional birthstone for a particular month be extra-powerful during that month. Nothing much, just, say an extra +1 or +2 to damage after applying all multipliers, but it's something that makes sense to me and makes magic seem...well...more magical. Garnet would get a boost this month, next month Amethyst would would get the boost, etc. Better yet, align them to the associated Zodiac signs, though that borders on too much work for the QM. I'll post a quick list here, though: Gem--Month Garnet--January Amethyst--February Aquamarine--March Diamond--April Emerald--May (Moonstone/Pearl--June) Ruby--July (Peridot--August) (could be represented with the fluorescent green LEGO gem, but there's no element anyway ) Sapphire--September Opal--October Topaz--November (turquoise/zircon/tanzanite/blue topaz--December)
  24. Hey, welcome to new player Dwellington who has just appeared in Heroica Hall as the mage Aberforth Swindle!
  25. These would be REALLY useful for me...except they don't come with shoulderpads (which is the whole reason I'm not getting, for example, Jay's jet fighter). Lego, why must you make getting the shoulderpads such a pain in the rear?
