The Curse of IMHOTEP - Conclusion
Flipz replied to Pandora's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Anyone going to post a link to the writeboard, it was very informative for the Gotham Mafia, and I'd like to see this one as well. -
So, what do y'all think about Star Trek fan-fic/LEGO RPGs? OK, now that I've got your attention, let me explain. I am a Council Member of a large (well, formerly large) Star Trek builders group that operates on the old LEGO Universe Creation Lab, known as the Phoenix Command Group (PCG). We've sort of created our own expansion to the storyline, set over 100 years after the end of TNG, and we have a number of new races and factions (which fit well with the "Massively Multiplayer Crossover" effect of LEGO). Now, since LU is closed, the Creation Lab will only last for a bit longer. What I'd like to ask you all is this: do you think the PCG would do well on EuroBricks and/or other online brick communities? I already have an RPG in the works, I'd like to know if the building side would work well on EB as well. Oh, I suppose I should explain my personal greatest ST influences. I'm a big TNG fan, I really liked Picard ever since I first saw a TNG episode, but I also like Voyager as well. I hadn't seen actual episodes of TOS until recently, the same goes for DS9. My favorite character of all time is a tie between Seven of Nine and Guinan, with Geordi in a close third. My favorite movie has to be The Voyage Home, I always love time travel stories (even though they make my brain hurt ) , my favorite villian is Khan.

Yep! just read the rules (page 1 of Rules and Discussion), add the character info to your sig, and make an intro post in Heroica Hall. We'll help you with any mistakes you make via Rules and Discussion.
Also, what was your best LU faction or non-faction specialty again? I can probably find you a Class very much like it.

Ah, I can't believe I missed your welcome topic! Well, welcome to EuroBricks, my friend! I think you're gonna like it here.

Actually, Sage is a really good choice for Tomas. You have a great gem for support (mechanical enemies seem to catch Heroes off-guard all the time), and in a support role Mage-classes don't need more than one or two gems. I'd advise Tomas to load up on Scrolls, particularly Blindness and Sealing. Going through the process I outlined earlier, Tomas really only has to choose between Sage, Druid, and Witch; Witch is right out for Tomas, totally out of character for him. Druid would have been another possibility, but really he's more of a straight-up magic user, and sage just works for him. Boomingham definitely made the right choice. Although he's racist and a bit rude at times, he's not dark enough for a Black Knight nor is he aggressive enough for a Berserker. He also seems like the type to eschew and/or conquer nature rather than defending it, plus he's not one to hide in the back row, so Warden is out. He might have done well as a Mystic Knight, he's got enough quirkiness to pull it off, but ultimately Paladin is funnier (you know, with Bart) and fits his skills (not to mention it saves him the trouble of choosing which sword to unbind a gem from, since a Mystic Knight without a loose gem is not very effective). Incidentally, you and Doc need to Quest together now, I want someone to ask for Bart and both your Guardian Angel and Ranger Docken reply simultaneously. Oh, and I really, really want to go on a Wren quest now, a more arcane, puzzle-solving one like The Arena Quest. It would be most excellent for Arthur's development.

I don't have a good idea of Elgar's character, so I'll go with a purely stat-based comparison. You are in a good position to become an Evoker, compared to most Rangers, since you have relatively easy access to a gem (the Topaz in your crossbow), and it's one of the better gems in terms of utility (just behind Amethyst and Opal). On the other hand, you'd probably want a few more, and those aren't easy to come by, not to mention that Evoker has one of the worse stat boosts. This is balanced by the epicness of the summons and the semi-permanent Hastened effect and guaranteed damage granted by having the summon on the battlefield...but only if you have more than one gem so you don't end up in an elemental corner. Warden, on the other hand, is a strange sort of back-row meat shield. Aura is really nice, so long as you can take the damage. You'll have to spend a fair amount of cash on a shield, but once you have a SP: 6 or 7 shield you can sit in the back row and soak up hits pretty much forever unless the enemy is a higher level than you are (and then the excellent health boost will help you live through the damage that gets past the shield). Character-wise, you get both Animal Talk and Diplomacy, but again I don't know if Elgar is that sort of character or not. If you run across more gems on your way to Level 15, then Evoker would be a good option, but if not, go with Warden, since it's easier to upgrade a shield than to find gems. (Personally, if I had a Ranger, I'd go with Druid, as they have great health, a way to heal themselves fairly reliable, and essentially a free Phoenix Essence/Remedy combo on Shield. But, really, the choice has to fit the character. I might revisit the Ranger classes later, they're rather difficult to compare, especially since most Rangers in Heroica besides Skrall are rather subdued and hard to characterize.) Well, the Paladin is a paragon of honor and protectiveness for the good in life, yes? The Warden is very similar character-wise, but focuses their attention more on the protection of the natural world. Perhaps Alexandre will see and admire how the Elves care for the environment (much like a Ranger), and yet will also condemn them for their dishonorable behavior. Warden would be a good path for him, especially since you can start the characterization early on. Assassin pairs well with Berserker because, while the Berserker might get stuck on a target that is not optimal (say, a foe with a Special that switches its element to the same as the weapon of the attacker), the Assassin has a chance of killing that target and thus freeing the Berserker. In addition, if a true partnership is formed (that is, free sharing of loot, etc. even from Mug gold), the Assassin's extra gold can really help the Berserker buff up their Shield, while the Berserker's War Cry will transform the Assassin from a major threat to a back-row powerhouse. With that epic Zoot's Reaper, I can't really see Hybros going anywhere besides Assassin. I don't see him as any kind of Ether-class (Witch or Sorcerer), and I can't picture an imp as an intimidating Black Knight either. He might could pull off Raider (especially with the health boost and Natural Respite), but even if he does Raider for a while, I always see him ending up as an Assassin, like his friend De'kra. Definitely pair up with Eric, especially if Eric goes Berserker, they just complement each other so well. I'd like to see De'kra (who plans to be Assassin) team with Tensi for a Quest or two, though I have a feeling he'll end up closer to (Sorcerer?) Cinna or else with Hybros, a pair of Assassins. Sure! Haldor seems like a "stay in the honorable light" kind of guy, so Paladin might be an interesting choice. Given his experiences with Wren, I'd say Witch is right out, but then again Jess may "convert" Haldor toward her rogueish ways. While Sage is epic for Clerics, Haldor seems like more of a heavy-hitter, he seems to enjoy beating up people with that metal rod, something he can't do with Sage. Druid may be another option, though if he's going to take a more "natural healer" route I think Shaman would fit him better, as it's based off the heavy-hitting Barbarian. Depending on which class Jess goes with, I'd say either Paladin or Shaman. Stat-wise, Paladin is pretty much untouchable (unless cralegoboy is the QM the enemies ignore SP) and they get the nice Diplomacy (something which fits Haldor well, actually), but Shamans get free healing for themselves and dish out more damage. Actually, you know what, though, now I think of it, Haldor is a lot darker than I thought. I forgot you were part of Quest 6, and then there was that business of two-timing Jess on Quest 12! I still think Witch is a stretch for Haldor, but Paladin is out. Go with Shaman, unless you want to switch to Druid (which is more of a support role). Let me explain for the record, there are offensive and defensive varieties of each core class (with the possible exception of Barbarian). This is the primary thing to look at when choosing an Advanced Class for your character: do you prefer a more offensive role, or will you focus more on supporting your teammates. With Clerics, for example, your offensive options are Paladin, Shaman, and Sage (if you have lots of gems), while your defensive options are Druid, Witch, and Sage (if you focus on scrolls). Once you know whether your character is aggressive or passive (offensive or defensive), you then look at how "light" or "dark" your character is to eliminate options; in Haldor's case, his "dark"-ness eliminates Paladin. From the remaining options, you look at stats: Haldor doesn't have a lot of gems, and Sage is only hard-hitting if you have many gems on your side. (Also, it's hard hitting, but not physically hard-hitting, which makes a difference for some characters.) That leaves him as a Shaman, which, when you think about it, really does fit with his character. EDIT: Thing is, status-warriors are an integral part of all good RPGs. What I would do is make certain elemental-types of enemies immune to certain effects--i.e. Electrical monsters can't be stunned, while Dark enemies don't Sleep. I'd also limit the number of scrolls one character can use at a time on a given enemy--that is, a Hero can Stun Enemy A on one round and Blind Enemy B on the next, but they can't Stun Enemy A on one round and then Blind Enemy A the next. At the same time, Hero A can still Blind Enemy A on one round, and Hero B can Seal him on the same round. Also, bosses need to be immune to one or more Statuses, or else they need to be able to status-boost/clear themselves (i.e. "Special C clears all statuses from the Boss, useable even when Sealed. Special is chosen at random.")

The Curse of IMHOTEP - Conclusion
Flipz replied to Pandora's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
(Heh, it was a joke. Like how fhomess got her Title. ) Speaking of which, we should list all the Titles that came from this Mafia game here in this topic. -
Agreed. And, I think they should put that Yavin 4 set out, when A New Hope comes out in 3D. It is just too cool to let go!

The Curse of IMHOTEP - Conclusion
Flipz replied to Pandora's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Wooooooow. What an ending! This has been a great Mafia to watch, it's made me even more impatient for the next Mafia School to appear. Great job Pandora and Rufus (am I allowed to call you Pandufus now? ) Just one question: since all of you apparently know from your PM conversations...what the hell was the Cherrinator?? Was that Roger's action, or...? Finally...does anyone think CorneliusMurdock's short, summarizing posts in this topic seem a little bit scummy...? -
GOSH DANG IT WHY??? WHY DID THEY HAVE TO MAKE ME LIKE THE ULTRA SONIC RAIDER AGAIN??? My wallet is in agony!!!!!

Don't be embarassed, it's been proven that waiters in America who have a convincing British accent get better tips. And on that note, Welcome to EuroBricks!
-
I've already seen you around Heroica, but welcome to Eurobricks!

It's not? You could have fooled me! Since both of you are Barbarians, I'll address both of you in this WoT. Barbarians' choice of classes is most like choosing a class at the start of the game; the choice you make will DRAMATICALLY change your style of play from the way it was before. It's more of a class change than a class boost, which has its advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, a change in pace can be welcome, but the unfamiliarity of the new playstyle can make your first few Quests with a new class much more difficult. Let's start with, as you might have guessed, the Raider. Out of all the Barbarian--type classes, this one retains the most "Barbarian-ness"; Ravage hits all enemies and, as an added bonus, gets gold. The additional gold is really the most Rogue-like ability for the Raider, though Flee might have its uses at times. You still get Natural Respite and 3x damage criticals, two Barbarian abilities that help define their strength. Overall, this is the way to go if you like playing a Barbarian as-is, but want a stat boost and some extra gold. Next up is Berserker. As Tesni has found out, War Cry is very different from Fury, and the reliance on multi-enemy damage can wreck some battle plans. Berserker has the absolute highest health boost of all Barbarian-classes, and it comes with the damage reduction offered by a Knight's shield, not to mention the benefeits to the party of what is essentially free Mead, but all that comes at a cost. The Berserker cannot switch targets until the first one they chose is dead. If you make the wrong choice, you are "locked in" until the enemy is dead; it's a major loss of flexibility. On the other hand, Miss is replaced by Counter, which is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it's a third way to deal damage (since Shield is a status boost only), but on the other hand it's a third way to take damage. Berserkers will need to pour obscene amounts of money into WP in order for Counter to be a reliable damage method, and even more money into their shields in order to stay alive. If you really want this class, Id recommend playing Raider for a Quest or two and then switching. Otherwise, find an Assassin and form a permanent partnership; their insta-kill posibility can be a lifesaver for allied Berserkers. Battle Mages are interesting. On the one hand, their stats are awful compared to the other classes, and they have to deal with healing Ether AND Health. On the other, they have 4 different ways to damage enemies, with their Shield effectively dealing 4x damage, up to 8x damage if both the weapon and the random magical element are super-effective! Natural Respite is always good, and you get to play Elemental rock-paper-scissors with the rest of the Mages and gems. I'm not sure this would fit either Spag or Eric, but if Tesni decides not to stay a Berserker, she might like Battle Mage to go along with Cysogdion. Hunter is REALLY good for exactly two types of people: QMs (in the form of party NPCs) and real-world psychics. Marking the Favored turns the battle (or even the Quest) into a bloodbath...IF they choose the right enemy type to favor. The favored type does stay between battles (I think...), but savvy QMs can totally ruin Hunters by having the enemies completely swap types for each battle. Hunters will excel for elementally-themed Quests (like BAP's Winter Problems or a Quest set in a volcano or something), but most Quests will let the QM balance the Hunter's insane damage potential. On the other hand, having a back row attack is always a good thing, especially with such relatively low (for a Barbarian) HP gain. The final Barbarian-class, Shaman is another secret rockstar. They are, of course, one of the hardest-hitting Clerics, and Natural Respite means you will really only need to spend Ether on other party members, instead of yourself. Unlike the other Barbarian Ether class, Battle Mage, Shmans have the second-highest HP gain of all Barbarian classes (behind Berserker), and their Shield both damages the enemy AND heals an ally (or you). Khorne, Eric really seems like he'd make a good Shaman, it makes sense to me that he'd seek a more direct connection to his deities what with all of the bad luck he's been having. There's one thing all potential Shamans MUST avoid at all costs, and that's Witches on the allied team. If you even THINK there's going to be a Witch on your Quest, run the other way. Their perma-poison will completely screw up your Shield and can most definitely kill you or your other party members. (Besides that, two Clerics in one party is overkill, unless the party has to split up at some point.) I'm not sure which class to recommend for Spag...you haven't revealed too much backstory, and you haven't really had the chance to see how Spag's luck in battle is. Maybe Hunter if you want to convert that one-off McCafferey gag into a real storyline, but I'd recommend expanding your character a bit more story-wise before making a final choice. EDIT: I'll get to both of you as soon as I can, I have class soon this morning.

Between Mystic Knight and Sage...for Althior, Sage. With all those gems, he's got a very "arcane" vibe around him, plus a super-"Light" type class like that would contrast well with the whole Abraxas business...and living up to his class would provide good motivation to take down the demon once and for all. I still think Althior would be an epic Evoker, though...
-
Seeing as you're starting out Barbarian, I'd recommend Raider. You'll get used to your Frenzy, and as Peppermint_M can attest, the sudden switch to the battle cry for Berserkers would be very difficult to get used to. Raiders, on the other hand, hit all opponents AND get gold--a good improvement from a basic Barbarian. EDIT: Ha, K-nut and I both posted at the same time, gave the same example...and came to completely opposite conclusions.

Heroica RPG - Quest #17: The Lion's Share
Flipz replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Say, can someone stronger please put some stakes in front of the East-facing walls? Actually, I feel our time would best be served if each of us puts stakes in front of walls. Not the Towers, we can defend those just fine. Our other defenses can hold against ordinary Elves, but I'm worried we'll have to face tougher siege weaponry. We should definitely move the oil, water, rocks, Hiyaaaaaa Hwacha, and troops around before the Elves arrive, though!" -
Well, stats-wise, I'd direct him to Raider or maybe witch, but those don't fit his character. I feel that's very important, so I'll focus on the character side of things. Dyric does tend to attack from the back a lot, so Assassin definitely fits his character. He tends to flee a lot, so that also fits the Assassin character. He sort of strikes from the shadows out of fear of retaliation; if he can't be seen, then nothing can hurt him--except his memories of the past. He might also do well as a Raider, though he doesn't seem like the type to go for gold all the time, and he's a bit more "civilized" than I imagine a Raider would be. Black Knight is right out, storyline-wise; if he continues his current streak of running from that which scares him, he wouldn't have the strength of character to Intimidate people, and he wouldn't be able to stand firm and let his armor take the hit, which would render it useless (again, this is just as far as characterization goes). Likewise, he doesn't seem like the crafty, power-hungry sort, and in fact he doesn't even seem to desire supernatural power at all; I can't recall him ever mentioning even a passing interest. (Plus, since he has no gems, it would be a pain for him to collect them.) Witch would be an interesting option, perhaps in his eagerness to prove all of Wren's taunts wrong, he slowly, inexorably becomes more like her, leading to his following the path of the Witch. Overall, I'd go with Assassin if he wants to follow the "strikes from the shadows out of fear" storyline, otherwise I'd go with Witch if he wants to be braver and stronger to challenge Wren. If Dyric ends up on a second Wren quest, then DEFINITELY go with Witch, it'd be too good of a storyline to pass up. Interesting...I think you're right about him starting out Lawful Good, though something I haven't yet been able to get across is that he has his own definition of "good"; not grey-and-grey morality per se, more along the lines of that being mixed with blue-and-orange morality. He's sort of a Jedi Exile sort of character in a way, I guess. When I first saw the Advanced Classes, I thought Sage would be the way I'd settle my initial dillemma of whether to make Arthur a Mage or a Cleric. When I actually looked at the stats, though, it just didn't seem to fit for me. The Sage, character-wise, seems to me to be more of the arcane and aloof type, the ones who think everything through a hundred times before they act. Arthur embodies a sort of improvisational impulsiveness; sure, he plans ahead, but only after it's too late to avoid the problem entirely. Case in point: he didn't have second thoughts about working for the Hinckwells until after he embarked on the Quest. At the same time, he does think before he acts, and for that reason a Battle Mage would only fit stat-wise (for the HP regen). Mystic Knight was the first Advanced Class I actually looked at. It really appealed to me--it still does--but perhaps a little less so now that I've given other classes serious consideration. It's got this neat, quirky-arcane vibe to it that fits with Arthur's personality; to me, a Mage is the complete opposite of a Knight, and the two together are a very interesting combo; it reminds me of the Jal Shey in Star Wars. If Arthur doesn't follow this path, I really look forward to seeing someone else who does. (Actually, Dwellington appears to be a good candidate for this, as he too is a bit quirky compard to most of our Mages.) I'm going to be honest, Evoker appealed to me mainly because of the Ninjago Dragons and Pokemon. Now I've seen it in action, I still really like it, but character-wise it really seems to fit the quieter Ranger-types like Alexis more. I really like the idea of Althior as an Evoker, though, it seems a waste not to have spirits associated with all those gems. I was a bit hesitant about Sorcerer at first, but now I'm liking it more and more. It seems to fit with a story of Arthur's slow move away from the Lawful and towards the Neutral/Chaotic. Plus, ironically, gold is rather important to him, and being a Sorcerer would help him gain that. An exhibition of his dark powers as a Sorcerer would also help him gain favor with the Shadeaux, something I've wanted since the start. As the Mystic Knights seem to reflect the Jal Shey, the Sorcerer fits the Zeison Sha of Star Wars; I wore the Zeison Sha gear almost exclusively in KotOR 2, and it was glorious. If I take Arthur down this path, I MUST have a Discblade for him. Ultimately, I think it's going to be between Mystic Knight and Sorcerer, leaning toward Sorcerer. We'll see how it goes as he rises in Level! EDIT: Oh, and yes, once he has an Amethyst, a Topaz, and maybe a Diamond his attention will turn to scrolls. They DEFINITELY fit him better, especially now that I realize they aren't one-use-only items.
-
Go with Witch, honestly, it fits Atramor better than Black Knight, and as of yet no one is planning to play as one (Dak, I think, has Black Knight covered as far as story goes). Plus, we need to see more of McCafferey. Yes, your opinion would be much appreciated! As I mentioned in my "meta-backstory" WoT, Magic tends to be a fallback for me story-wise, so I don't have the objectivity to truly "review" the Mage-based Advanced Classes.
-
Fix'd. Remind me to PM you the development notes for my Star Trek RPG sometime. I nearly maxed out three 10,000 character posts in the initial forum where it's started, and that's not counting the behind-the-scenes notes, the Story Posts (excerpts from the story that goes along with the RPG), and all of the NEW stuff I've typed up while adding an actual stat system (yes, I had nearly 27,000 characters of stuff for the RPG BEFORE adding a stat system. I'm kind of crazy like that ). Not to mention the NPC character profiles which I've pretty much figured out but haven't typed up yet...

Hello there, welcome to Eurobricks! For tips on modifying LEGO, you'll definitely want to check out the Minifig Customization Workshop board. Yes, the title specifies minifigs, but I've seen a fair number of brick customization topics there as well, and of course the people on that board will know more about the subject than I ever will. Once again, welcome!

Welcome to EuroBricks! Question: Have you ever tried to build some of the beautiful architecture of your country in LEGO? If not, I think we'd all love to see it!
