Heroica RPG - Quest #99: Six Thousand Feet Under
Flipz replied to Endgame's topic in The Heroica Archive
Out of curiosity, Arthur flips over the journal pages he's collected thus far, reading to see if there was any more information on The Regret's activities. -

"I'd advise taking a tendril, Claire. Erdathcath died to the darkness in this place. I can't stand the thought of losing anyone else on my team. Not again..." Arthur reads the journal entry with some concern, but pockets it without comment. -

Arthur nods and gingerly plucks the three tendrils, carefully storing one away in his pack for later planting. "Keep it safe, Bookmark." He takes a moment to read the journal entry before doing anything else. -
Ooh, nice use of the brick separator! What minifig legs are used on the pilot, BTW?

Wait, is 93 offering simultaneous "Outstanding" rep with both Hinckwells and Shadeaux?!

"While we're walking, I wanted to mention: you've gathered quite a bit of Gold using those gloves I lent you. Mind distributing it with the rest of us, like I did for you two after the rat battle?" Suggested Overkill Distribution: Erdathcath: keeps 223 gold Grimwald: gains 178 gold Arthur: gains 221 gold -

"She's...a friend. Not that kind of friend, but a staunch ally and a valiant companion nonetheless. She...made sacrifices for the good of others. Including you." Deciding to skirt around the truth instead of risking upsetting this new, more violent persona, he adds, "You...wouldn't be standing here if it weren't for her." Yeah, it's time to end this conversation before things take a downward turn. "Let's see what the light has opened up." -
What about Confused? What about Weakened? Neither of those are particularly threatening to enemies, but allow the Heroes to have a fighting chance against the massive overkill that is so many enemies these days. I understand immunity to Blindness, since it really is a massively crippling effect (but then again, that's the point of said effect), but so many other effects end up auto-immuned when they don't need to be. *Sealed--does nothing against passive Specials and Free Hits; yes, it means those pretty, unique Specials you toiled away on don't get used, but a.) there's only a 1/6 chance of them getting used anyway, and b.) the fact that Heroes are diverting resources (Ether and the potential danger of taking a Free Hit by using a Scroll instead of an attack on another enemy) means that your Special was threatening enough that it warranted the extra attention; I'd be flattered if an enemy of mine got Sealed, it meant I had succeeded at making the Special something they wanted to prevent at all costs. *Fragile--while I, personally, would like to see more "immune to Fragile" used against me personally, in general terms it's not such a huge deal; enemies these days have too much health anyway, so something that speeds the pace is welcome. If you want to put "immune to Fragile", then cut the HP significantly (i.e. 3/4-2/3 of what it would be without said immunity). *Stun--nothing should be immune to Stun except for roleplaying reasons. It's a volatile effect (that is, it wears off quickly), and does little other than allowing the Heroes a partial breather. Back when we thought Stun lasted an entire Round on enemies, I could see the need; nowadays, however, there's no point to an immunity. The big thing, however, is that effects are a choice that keeps the game from becoming, as Endgame put it, "several rolls of dice for a week or two". I fully admit, I'm probably in part to blame. Though you have to admit, it did make me stand out from all the other Mages we had at the time.

Arthur looks between Bookmark and Lynne, concerned. "I'm definitely not a fan of the magicks involved, but if it'll help her...the choice is ultimately yours, Lynne. It's your life." Arthur begins rummaging in his pack for something, pulling out a bottle of Mulled Wine and handing it to Minoid. "Here, hold on to this for a minute, would you?" -

"If I may offer some advice, Lynne? You're never going back, the past is in the past. Let it go...let it go. Don't hold it back anymore. It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small, but the things that once controlled you can't get to you at all. It's time to see what you can do, to test the limits and break through. His rules were wrong, trust me, you see...you're free." OOC: I regret nothing! -

Endgame, was Minoid supposed to be speaking in Courier font this entire time? Because your font tags are really messed up if that's the case.

"Since neither of you have mentioned interest in classes that could use this armor, I'll just hang on to it for now. I have a few friends back at the Hall who could sorely use the added defense. Speaking of things we can't use, here, there's no reason for me to hang on to this sushi--enjoy it." He turns to Minoid. "Here, you should borrow my Sword of the Vampir as well." Loot: Grimwald: Smelling Salts, 60 Gold, 2 Sushi (take from Arthur's inventory) Erdathcath: Smelling Salts, 60 Gold, 1 Sushi (take from Arthur's inventory) Arthur: Heavy Armor "Of course, Lynne," Arthur says kindly. "We want to free as many victims of The Regret as we can before we bury this place forever. And no one deserves to have to suffer alone, least of all someone who's suffered as much as you have. You're free to join us." -
We're talking about immunities on enemies, which are chosen by the QM as part of creating the battle. For Heroes (player characters), you have to find/earn/buy either a gem (for immunity to an element) or a Scroll (for immunity to an effect) and then have it imbued into an Artifact at the Marketplace for 50 gold apiece (so for example, someone with a Scroll of Confusion could imbue it into one of their Artifacts for 50 Gold, and from then on they'd be Immune to Confused as long as they wore that Artifact).
-
Can I just reiterate how overused "immune to negative effects" is these days?
-
It's a huge difference to a Skirmisher, though, thanks to Assistance.
-
I actually get confused a lot by the boots of evasion--I keep thinking they let you deal Front Row damage from the Back Row, when really it's the other way around, you take Back Row damage from the Front Row.

Actually, the way it works is you can sign up for as many Quests as you want, but can only get picked to participate in one at a time--that way, if you're not selected for a given Quest, you can already be signed up for another one as backup, or if there's two Quests you're interested in and can't choose between them, you can let the Quests' respective QMs decide. Lucky Druid Healing Staves on Sword of the Vampir. Although, interestingly enough, this mimicry mechanic has let Arthur go pseudo-Witch on you. They only broke because they tried to out-broken Arthur.
-
Hey, give yourself some credit for making me sweat--you forced me to play my trump card a battle early. Now that that's happened, though, I'll have to rethink things a bit. Usually you want Heroes who deal added effects on their attacks (Blindness, Stun, etc.) to go first so those effects go into effect before any other Heroes have to target them. Clerics usually go last in case they heal the whole party with a Miracle, but if someone's injured you obviously want the cleric to heal them before they attack. ...and ninja'd by Endgame.
-
Why would he want to change it to a broken broomstick instead of a functional broomstick? Been re-reading Dastan to work on learning some of the characters' voices, and came to realize how brutal those fights were--only to look at 99 and 100 and realize how easy we had it without even realizing it. On second thought, a broken broomstick wouldn't be so bad, yeah?
