Yeah, but getting to it in a condition that's not "3 HP and Bleeding for 5 while taking four Free Hits" is far better than I'd hoped for. Although, watch it just be the head popping off and skittering around on tiny, tiny legs before Grimwald crushes it beneath his boot.

That was quite possibly the most complete turnaround possible, just from two successful spells. We went from "hoping to get in some chip damage while we patch oureslves up" to "oh hey, let's just kill this thing" over the course of two dice rolls. Druids are nice. (That said, I'm really glad I changed my mind and used up that Ambrosia, this strategy would not have been possible without it. )

Heroica RPG - Quest #99: Six Thousand Feet Under

OOC: Stun on Right Hand? And mortar cannon should have taken a tick of Bleeding, and the stalactites should have ticked down a Round as well. Since I'm asking Grimwald to potentially use a rare and expensive item, I'd prefer we get direct input from him before proceeding. Arthur smiled--now was the time to take some risks. "Great timing on your spells, Grimwald, Erdathcath. Everyone on Stalactite A--I can take the hits from the rest." Arthur throws his Dauntlet Index and Spider Leg at Stalactite A from the Back Row. Minoid fires the Quick Bow at Stalactite A twice from the Back Row. Erdathcath fires her handcannon at Stalactite A twice from the Back Row. "Grimwald, remember those bombs we got on Foundation Day? If you see an opening (OOC: that is, if the heart's HP is less than 340), throw it. Otherwise, try to Sleep Monolith's head and attack the roof." Battle Order: and suggested actions Arthur VS Stalactite A (back): Minoid VS Stalactite A (back): Arthur VS Stalactite A (back): Minoid VS Stalactite A (back): Erdathcath VS Stalactite A (back): Erdathcath VS Stalactite A (back): Grimwald throws Chaotic Bomb (back) OR VS Needle Cavern Roof (back): Grimwald casts Sleep on Monolith (back): OOC: Free Hits (if it comes to that) should be: Monolith + Mortar Cannon VS Arthur: (64+48=112/2=56-40=16 damage) Stalactite B VS Minoid (nothing happens) Right Hand VS Minoid (recovers from Stunned) -
What?!?! A pop-culture/literary reference Sandy DOESN'T get?!?! It's the apocalypse!!! Also: go see How to Train Your Dragon 2. So good.

I adore Hoenn, but mostly because of the way they had TWO villainous teams in Emerald--that was brilliant, and it's the main reason I'm secretly hoping for a 3D Emerald remake (even though I know it's not going to happen). If it's just one real villainous team per version...eh. It's not like it'd be bad, but even though I have a real soft spot for a lot of the Hoenn Pokemon, it wouldn't be enough to make AS a day-one purchase for me. (That said, I'm a total sucker for Sinnoh stuff since that's where I met the franchise, so if that ever gets remakes there's like a 90% chance I will be all over that. )

One of these days a group of Heroes are going to break into a place (as usual), hear screaming, and rush to investigate...only to find couple of newlyweds on their honeymoon.

OOC: Regular access resumed. Also, dammit...did you roll for my Cloak of Deception? How about for Confusion on the Right Hand? THAT would be awesome. *crosses fingers* Customizer, if, when you come back, you object to this use of your Smelling Salts, I'll buy you a new one after the Quest is over. "Ungh...I'm rethinking my previous strategy...Erdy, I need a Smelling Salts, pronto! Grimwald, Frail up the stalactites if you would, we need to take advantage of this opportunity--but use a Grand Potion on me first, otherwise I won't survive my attack." Arthur uses an Elixir on Grimwald, then drinks the Ambrosia from his Swift Halberd before lobbing it at the Right Hand. Erdy uses a Smelling Salts on Arthur, then fires her handcannon at the Mortar Cannon. Minoid fights tactically: if Erdy has not rolled Roots of Life, he Remedies himself; otherwise, he fires the Quick Bow once at whichever stalactite Grimwald cast Frailty at. Battle Order and suggested actions: >Arthur uses Elixir on Grimwald >Erdy uses Smelling Salts on Arthur >Erdy (Tritech Handcannon) VS Mortar Cannon (back): >Grimwald casts Frailty on Stalactite of choice >Grimwald uses Grand Potion on Arthur (unless Roots rolled, in which case (Splinter Broom) VS Stalactite of choice): >Arthur drinks Ambrosia from Hollow Blade >Arthur (Duplovian Swift Halberd) VS Right Hand (back): >Minoid uses Remedy on self (unless Roots rolled, in which case (Quick Bow) VS whichever Stalactite Grimwald has cast Frailty at): -

OOC: Unfortunately, action summaries are one of the few things that are too much for me to do on mobile, sorry. Assuming no one is in danger of K.O., I think we'd all be fine repeating for just one Round. -
Just to let everyone know, I will have limited internet access tomorrow--I might be able to get on mobile, but no guarantees.

I love love love how Purpearl and Nerwen dislike each other for the very trait they have in common: their Elvish self-superiority.

Happy Birthday, Sandy! Hope you get lots of LEGO!

OOC: I shouldn't be Hastened while Erdy should be--she used the Smelling Salts on herself. Neither she nor Grimwald should be Immersed anymore. Also, why is Grimwald Poisoned for 10? Erdy's handcannon should be Poisoned 10, not Grimwald. "Was hoping to avoid having to do this...shame. Grimwald, you're on roof duty." Arthur throws Zoot's Rebel at the Mortar Cannon from the Back Row, as Minoid does the same with the Unlucky Horseshoe. Battle Order: Arthur Minoid Grimwald Erdathcath Erdathcath -

Arthur shakes his head in disbelief. Yeah, the horrors and corruption that HE spawned. He wondered how much of Eubric's darkness had its root in the being that stood before him. "We've had this argument before. I doubt the outcome will be different this time." After careful consideration, he takes a moment to rub his last Dragon Scale, the touch comforting him somewhat. "Farewell, Monolith. We'll try to make it quick. Grimwald, would you mind passing me my scarf, please?" If Grimwald passes him the Scarf of Misfortune, Arthur equips it in place of the Zap-Tap Badge. -

"Think about it--what's the one moment when it all started? The moment that began your lifetime of pain?" "Tell me something--if the Prometheus then saw the Prometheus now...would he make the same choice? No--the same mistake?" -

Arthur is surprised. "You...believe that..." He runs a hand down his face, considering this new information. "You...really don't see the gaping hole in that statement, do you? The way you could literally end all your pain--Hel, end everything wrong that you wanted to. I don't get it. You're intellectually advanced, Etherally extreme, preternaturally powerful, and yet you're incapable of the most basic shift in perspective that would solve every problem in your life--and millions, millions of others. Do you want to know how you could undo the agony you live in, Regret? That one variable that would solve the equation, permanently?" -
Don't worry too much about it, it's a problem I've been mulling over for quite a long time without ever finding a satisfactory solution. As I mentioned in PM, I mostly got worried due to some of the comments you were making, and you've already allayed my concerns.

SOME players are, and it's adversely affected the rest of us. (I admit it, I was wrong about the "helpful Rogues" thing way back.) In case no one's noticed, I've tried not to use them unless I've needed to. I also try not to overdose on them like I used to, just so it's not "I'ma crush everything now"--I have good strategy to do that. Mostly these days, I end up using them to buff other players. And really, what's the point of consumables if they're either a.) required (in which case it's just the same as having an enemy passive that steals Gold from the Heroes every Round) or b.) automatically balanced for (in which case the whole party suffers for one player buffing themselves, and the consumable being exactly useless to the Hero who used it). I don't know, I'm very seriously considering just pretending consumables don't exist and never using them.
-
EDIT: taken to PM for now.
-
What, the "monument to stupidity" or "just spit it out or go away"?
-
Your fault for refusing to give us stats. Seriously, though, I'm not going to down a bunch consumables that cost a considerable amount of Gold unless I'm sure the battle's not just going to be rebalanced around them. I don't remember your stance on that issue, otherwise I'd be more decisive about making preparations or not. For the record, the three of us have consulted amongst ourselves regarding the preparations we'd like to take, but we all agreed it was a bad idea to take those preparations without stats. Nothing against you, personally, it just reflects something about the current state of the game.

"Ooh, nice chandelier. What a lovely monument to stupidity, just like everything else you've made." "Look, are we gonna get on with this or what? If all you're going to do is sit there and gloat, fine, but you don't need us here for that, you can invade dreams just as easily. If you actually want something of us, spit it out, otherwise just go the hell away." Arthur holds his hand out to Grimwald to take back his unneeded gear. "Put your hat on, Grimwald, we're going to fight or we're going home, and either way that hat's more useful to the situation." -

"No. Not yet." "Sure...but only if there's no way to free him. The Hel is he, anyway?" "Yeah, yeah, the Zirconia, whatever. You do realize how laughably inefficient that thing is considering the effort it took to make this island, right?" "Try to get a better scan of the Giant alone. I don't plan on fighting these other two, unless they decide to force the issue--now's not the time for that. Pretty sure they'll sic the giant on us either way, though."
