LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

At least on the US page some figs are even given two different trademarked names. They couldn't decide! Anyone else notice the hinges on the Jawa shop?! It opens up. Strange they don't show a pic of the inside. -

No one expected the CW styled printing, but expecting the 501st version of those 2014 prints is in a sense an expectation of things not changing. Don't get me wrong I wish they would leave it alone so everything matched, but its just not Legos way of it. Look at the Ep I Anikan printing, 2019 print was slightly altered from the 2015 print, not better not worse but for some reason they altered it. Edit: I'll add the Rebel Hoth Troopers and poor Snowspeeder Pilots to the list of weirdly altered figs. Hoth troopers from 2016 are IMO more accurate than 2019, and Lego has decided that they no longer distinguish between Snowspeeder and X-Wing Pilots despite almost a decade of doing so, and despite a perfectly good existing print. For better or worse Lego will always change things.- 127 replies

To me AT-AP and Souless One (ignoring price) are examples of same to slightly better and thats fine design wise for all the reasons you say. As long as its been more than 5-7 years I see no issues with the remakes that don't improve but keep the status quo. I don't think smaller = worse (I love the 2016 Turbo Tank, though I know some thought it a step back), but the 2014 MTT will always be my go too example of a remake that backtracked immensely. That example is an outlier to me though. Given time I think any set is okay to be remade. -
Ignoring the rumor of no more battlepacks, my general wishlist would be some synergy when creating battlepacks in relation to a wave of sets. Think 2014 kashyyyk Troopers BP. Basically, in a perfect world make the BPs consist only of mass-able generic figs. However, additionally include related Officers / Commaders in a regular set released at the same time ala Commander Gree. This: A. Makes selling multiples of a BP more desirable, B. Gives an incentive to purchase the larger set to have the commander / Officer. This is of course less about specific sets I want to see than it is about a restructure of how the sets are marketed. It's not a new idea, Lego has done this before, in fact the original BattlePacks were amazingly mass-able, but more often than not they include an officer or named character and not enough troops, or we never see the commander in a set, or the corresponding sets are not on shelves within the same timeframe. Possible Sets: BP of any specific Clone Battalion with either 2 and 2 like the 212th and 2nd Airbourne, or 3 and 1 like the 501st is (I'm ignoring the Battle Droids in this Scenario). Then put their Commander and Jedi General in a related set with a worthwhile build. ex: 327th Star Corps x4 BP, put Aayla and Bly in a set of any relevant Clone Vehicle or Galactic Marine x4 BP, put Bacara and Ki-Adi-Mundi in a set with relevant clone vehicle. (This year we got close with having 501st, Asohka, and Anikan available, but then go al the way and throw Rex in something.) BP of any Imperial or Rebel Group, Then slip a few more officers into regular sets. Rogue One BPs did this well. I think that there should always be some verion of a Stormtrooper BP available. In my opinion the ST BPs were the worst offenders of putting too many of the wrong figures into the BPs. Too many techs, crew, or specialists compared to the stormtroopers. I'm not saying eliminate the officer figs, I'm saying reallocate which sets they go in. Final Order Officer could have been in the TIE Dagger maybe, then put another Sith Stormtrooper in the BP. I don't see anyway it would not lead to selling more BPs.

I'm 110% sure that was just a photoshop joke somebody did due to that being the case with an old Kenner version. -

A closer pic of the side-of-box minifigure lineup seems to confirm that Lego will be using the official names of the alien denizens. It's a little thing, but it makes me happy! I hate the number of Aliens, Henchmen, and Astromechs, Majors, Troopers, and Pilots who aren't given their actual names on the product. Am I crazy? does anybody else feel this way? -

One thing that I really don't think lego has considered, is the fact that people who were children with no money that the time that sets like the AT-OT released are now adults with money. It's obvious with the helmets,18+, and mosaic, that Lego does change up their tactics on what sells, but I feel like they are completely missing the fact that kids that grew up with PT and CW are adults now. It's why there is such hullabaloo over the AAT and 501st Battlepack. Its why the UCS Gunshiip won out over (better) OT offerings. I'm still bitter about that one. Here my unpopular opinion. People who complain about updates to figs "ruining" their army, or "forcing" them to restart their army building are whiney and its just obnoxious. Nobody is telling you to go out and amass 1000+ clones / stormtroopers, its a completely personal goal. Right now you see it with the 501st Battlepack, People are amassing ungodly amounts of the set. I would get a bit of sick pleasure if they were to release a 501st clone with armprint or dual molding next year. Also, while I think everyone does have a right to buy as much as they want of a set, the people who are amassing certain sets by the double digits, including several youtubers who are just using unopened sets as set dressing at the moment are causing the scarcity as much as the scalpers are. It's certainly not as bad as scalping sets, but because of it, I seriously doubt there are many children who have a 501st BP right now due to the craze of hunting these things down to extinction faster than the dodo bird. All that said this is not a phenomenon unique to lego, I'd say its just kind of recent that it's occurring with non-exclusive sets.- 127 replies

What do people think is the closest to Jango / Clone hair? I've used the Finn hair, and the Draco hair and neither really looks like him. I think the hair thats closest is the piece used for the Ninjago movie version of Zane, but that only exists in white, the older "buzz cut" hair is too cartoony.

pics of the interior in the usual place. Figs are almost as blurry as the original pic unfortunately. -

It's 100% a Saurin. Even in the blurry photo, you can see where the muzzle of the (most likely) reused trandoshan head mold overlaps the right shoulder. So I finally got the new Vader figure. Im impressed at how complete the pauldron printing is. I don't believe that every fig needs over the top arm printing, but the quality here gives me hope for Clones and mandos, These characters tend to have quite the colorful arm accessories, and the detail on Vader shows me that lego can get that print all the way up the shoulder now, Most prints I'm used to from TLG always left some space of the base color. -

It's clearly from a deleted scene where Obi-Wan uses the force to conjure the image of Darth Vader using some blue milk. -

Oh yeah I definitely am aware that the PT got sidelined even more. Padme's hair is the only mold I can immediately think of, and there were only a handful of new figs. Boss Nass, Kiminoan, and Wat Tambor are within my top six desired figs. My initial focus on only OT was due to the beautiful new cantina set. Before we had any details on this set, Ponda, Imperial Spy, and Dr Evazan were quite noticeable as missing for 20 years. Importance or screentime is not always the reason people sorely want a fig, 'Cough" Boba Fett. I think Nein Nunb is a significantly missing character, and hell, he was in the sequel trilogy! -

Someone will inevitably point out something I'm forgetting, but this set has potentially half as many new molds as we've gotten for the whole OT since the ST started. Starting in 2016 Im counting maybe 6 if I'm generous and give them Han's hair which was updated because of Solo. (I'm not including Hologram Leia) -Stormtrooper Update -Scout Trooper Update -4-LOM -Zuckus -The Helmet Briefly Known as Rebel Helmet -Han Hair It's refreshing to think that some of that "new mold budget" that the ST devoured can go back to finishing up the gaps in the OT! Don't get me wrong, I'm proudly displaying all 6 Knights of Ren, but those 6 pieces of set dressing got as many new molds as the entire OT has in 5 years =D. -

Theres also going to be people who are hard core lego fans who own tons of sets, but maybe they never buy lego Star Wars. If they like this set maybe they buy it and having the main characters could actually justify the purchase a bit. I know this has happened for me in other themes. I may buy the odd marvel or DC set but not even 1 a year, so i'd never complain about an Iron Man or Batman, and from what i can see those two get put in a ton of sets (albeit with minor variation). I have to assume Superhero fans are tired of generic Iron Man and Batman figs when they aren't special variants. -

I feel like a good news, bad news meme. Goods news: out of my 4000+ minifigs I've only ever had one develop a crack on its arm. Bad news: that 1 fig is my 2004 Greedo :-( Cmon Lego, Greedo needs a new pair of sleeves! (It won't happen) -

I always see the logic of "if they hadn't included X character there would have been room for Y." There is little to back this argument outside of sets like Battlepacks and Microfighters that have an almost 100% precise fig count. If you look at any given sets at similar price points you can clearly see that there is no golden rule on how many figures will be included. There certainly is a limit, we were never getting 30 figs, but we've seen 30$ dollar sets with 6 figs, 130$ sets with 5 figs, and everything in between. I seriously doubt any designer was told, If you make this new awesome figure for Mos Eisley, you won't have room in that set for Luke "been in every set ever" Skywalker. Much more likely they were allowed X number of new molds / prints and then also included preexisting relevant figs. 21 figs and 7 of those being new, and at least 2 new molds, and a dewback is better than I expected. I've seen this fallacious logic for years. It doesn't hold water. -

Here's hoping Han gets the works on leg printing again. I just noticed that the biths appear to have dual molded legs. Lego really knows which figures deserve the bells and whistles. Ep VII C-3PO's and Bith musicians, thats where we draw the line at cutting corners. :-D -

If the pic is real I think the fact that Kabe is included is a good example of why it's hard to speculate on the last few figs. I doubt he was on many peoples lists to begin with, or at least in the unlikely category. Not requiring a new mold does increase the chances for figs though. I'll be happy if we get maybe 2 more as yet unseen patrons for the bar. I've got the 2014 set so I'm probably biased in only wanting 2 Biths. -

It's quite possibly different printing. I guess I miss-interpreted the comment as saying we've never gotten that part with the dirt print. I have to say as a minifig collector I have always felt like lego has done me dirty (No pun intended) when it comes to Sandtroopers. There was a brief moment where all three variations matched, summer 2018-winter 2018, then they remolded the helmet. -

I got the original AT-AT when I was 12 and I remember immediately adding a large plate inside so that I had a whole second layer of sitting room. I probably used all of 5 pieces for the mod, but it got the job done. -

I agree. We may have a "two different groups of people complaining" situation, but it seems people hate on sets like the IT-S or Turbo Tank for having no space, and hate on the Razor Crest for having all the space. Very few sets hit the balance. But I think the Razor Crest is great, It is supposed to be a converted cargo ship of sorts, so give me that empty space. Adding details is a lot easier than modding out a ton of support structure. I believe that the outsides are the most important part on vehicles detailed interiors are just gravy. I'd say the new AT-AT is a rare model that balances stability and tons of interior space with a little detail, But they have had 17 years to play around with the initial design of that vehicle. and it took them 5 tries to get a 3 man cockpit. -

So I bought 3 Sith Art sets, absolutely love them, I've one of each model for now. When I did Darth Maul I ran out of Black studs. I've triple checked that I didn't make a mistake (though still quite possible given the nature of the build) Factoring in the 1 extra I should have, that means I'm missing 9 black studs. I just took the extra from one of the other sets, but has anyone else who has the set built Maul? Did you encounter this issue? I've been buying Lego sets for thirty years and I've only ever been short 1 piece (Half the ball turret in my AT-DP) and 1 sticker sheet (Rise of Voldemort). -

The hollow space and hole is what allows the Battle Droid to curl up into is "resting" position. The remaining gaps seem to be there to allow the head and legs free range of motion. Battle droids need to get into this compact position to fit into many of their vehicles, including the recently released AAT. When it comes to the legs, I agree that what we have isn't perfect, but due to the B1s looking like lithe skeletons, I don't think the additional width needed to accommodate individual legs would be an improvement.
