Heroica RPG - Quest #90: A Trip to the Circus
Scubacarrot replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Everyone that had a part of the attack is dead or captured, we made sure of that." More likely dead. "Where one attack was, there will be more. One city was burned, only a few left. What's there to stop the next attack, I wonder? Will the orcs ever be free from the yoke of the High Kingdoms? The High Kingdoms are a bunch of scared old man that control too many soldiers, if the orcs don't attempt to set things right now, when will they? When will the slaves be released, when will they get their vengeance? There was no war for centuries, and now this bridge is there and it is all kicking off. I don't like this idea of war any more than you do, Nerwen, but it's not up to choice at this point." It was all the bridge's fault, Guts sighed. Who was the idiot that figured it would be a good idea? -

"How you can expect them not to cross? How can you expect peace of them? I was there at Imaestym. The fire, the smoke, the bodies. The Kingdoms, even if it was just a part, committed an atrocity, and this very bridge was as much the tool of their destruction as their swords. There is already war." Guts had to laugh, there was no way to fix this at this point, not after the attack. -

Guts narrowed his eyes. "Nerwen." She looked different. As her letter had said. "If you stand against this Paladin, and don't want the bridge to be destroyed, does that mean you will let the armies of Baltarok pass?" -

"Haldor. We can at least be civil with each other for now. There's a battle coming either way, and I'm tired of fighting." Guts put a hand on Haldor's shoulder, then spoke up so that everyone on the bridge might hear him. "However, the shaman's words are true. Our goal in Baltarok was to find a way to unite the orc clans and find a peaceful solution to the threat of the bridge the High Kingdoms had built. We went at great lengths to make sure no war was to come, going as far as to stopping a war party belonging to one of the more fickle orc clans for just that purpose. Peace. Yet then we receive word that there are High Kingdoms knights and soldiers that crossed the bridge and put one of the cities of the orcs to the torch. Killing thousands and thousands of people that did nothing to the High Kingdoms. The Kingdoms attack out of fear that the orcs would attack them, fear that they might retaliate for centuries of wrongings inflicted on them, fear that they might gain strength once again. It is the High Kingdoms that started this war. Do with that knowledge what you must." When Guts was done talking, he stepped back, waiting for what one of the Heroes that had worked for the High Kingdoms had to say, waiting for what Nerwen would do. -

Guts face turned into a sour grin. "So. Here we are. Explain yourselves. Why are you here?" -
Guts drinks a smelling salts, mead, nostrum, puts deadly venom on Lifestealer. "Olmstyr, use that venom." Guts then uses his magnifying glass to spot what Tarvalk was talking about.

Update tomorrow for my quest.

"Then you should also know that five heroes went to the High Kingdoms. Four of them I would cut down without second thought. But you know what we can do, they're not much worse."
-
Guts said nothing for a while. What was there to say? Each and every orc was going to die? Tarokai was controlled by a demon? That Heroica ended the war last time around? Perhaps... At least that should be said. "Tarvalk. A word. We are the "Heroes", of Heroica. 250 years ago. A 100 sellswords entered a castle in the High Kingdoms. Only six came back out, along with a head on a pike. Tarokai's head. Those six went on to found the same company me and my companions work for. I think you must know."
-
"Yeah. Fear. We are really doing this, then." The raider said it as much as a question as just a statement. They had succeeded. They united the orcs and gave them course to follow...

Heroica RPG- Quest #96: Tying up Loose Ends

"Criminal lords? Wolfgang? Never heard of them. I suggest you leave keeping order to the army and the guards. Strivvi's been here for a while, I doubt it needs outsiders to protect them from crime lords. No offense" - Purple walked up to the heroes: "It seems you have an in with Macros. Excellent. Remember that pass you need to exit and return to the city? Macros is of course one of the people with the ability to grant one. I will discuss with Mortimer some more. I'll see you back at the safehouse in the morrow, or continue with your investigation if you think that will help. I have not been able to locate Zoe yet, but I do hope I am getting close." What do the heroes want to do? It seems they have the ability to do whatever for the while. -
"Haldor, see what you can do. This leader of theirs, what's to happen with him? And what of the snake Jaret? We bumped into him and an assassin on the way here."
-
The raider sighed: "Marga refused to join us, but General Gor promised all the support he could muster. But then again, I doubt Marga would not come to attack the Kingdoms... It seems that there was never really anything we could have done to prevent a war... Is Karstaal dead? And something else, your daughter just refused us entry and Olmstyr and her went over the edge in the struggle."

"Personally, you could say that. I am his fiancée. The situation in the city? No different from yesterday, a month ago, or even a year ago. Strivvi's always in turmoil, but even that get's boring." -

"I was not putting your capability into question. A brawler? No. I can hold my own though. I am not as good as Macros, but few are." The woman shrugged. -
"A smoke bomb is just that. A cannister filled with smoke. Harmless even if you get a lungfull. I didn't see you coming up with a better idea, Dyric. She wasn't going to move, she wasn't going to listen, and I wasn't going to kill her. I'm all for suggestions, but something had to be done."

The woman sizes up Ellaria, then raises a green eyebrow, and answers in accented common: "Not just the men." - The bartender whispers something to Nyx after taking her money. - Meanwhile Boomingham seems to be zoning out. -
"So, Haldor, you're fine with killing a confused girl that is just following her daddy's orders, but you're against killing Jaret... Member of the evil organizations that hate magic and seemingly everything else, told you you have a taint.... Okay... Just asking... We should go on."

"It was my plan B."

"I see. I should go back to my company. We'll see each other soon." - "That's five too many, would the gentleman like a drink? Okay." The man whispers something in Skrall's ear. - "Come to my shop by the morrow. Up in the Smith's district. The Silver Anvil. No discounts, that's not how we roll. The sparring was only because I had some weapons to show Macros, and he suggested to try them out. Then the cheeky bugger picks up that damned stick of him." -

"I didn't mean to cause offence, I would be very interested in hearing about your exploits. I am tempted to agree with your opinion on opening the vault, that is." - "Very good. Come to my villa in two days. It would be good if you'd arriven by noon." Boomingham gains directions to Macros' Villa! - "Civil unrest? Not more than usual, to be completely honest." "When citizens are restless, they like to acquire weapons, wouldn't it be that you sold those, Sultan? My, my." "Are you saying I'm the cause for any civil unrest? Anyways lass, I'll deal with the rosy-cheeked smartass later, if you're talking about the viscount situation, it's fine. Macros will get his position soon, if the Gods want it." -

"This king of yours, where did he reign? Help me... I doubt it... Perhaps... Perhaps there is something. You and your... companions are quite colorful and fierce looking. It happens to be I have an evening planned in a few days in the no doubt fruitless hope to persuade some of my brother more stubborn and money-grabbing supporters. I heard we are still lacking in the security department. Perhaps you and your friends will take the job?" -

"I must admit you have peaked my curiosity, but I will refrain from asking. Perhaps you're right. Or perhaps they simply moved on and are somewhere else and everyone simply forgot, or perhaps the keys were lost. Many a thing gets lost in the Abran desert and found again later." -

"As I was telling your friend, I might have an inkling of who would have suitable jobs that pay well, but I do not benefit from that knowledge, so to get my share regardless, if you want to have a job for you, you will pay me the fee, I will dig into my mind, and everyone will benefit."
