  1. The thing is, you can't portray characters that all have a deep backstory, in something that works. You could never have a worked out Boomingham into something like we are discussing, because his backstory is something that stands apart entirely from whatever else is going on. And what you are going to see, is that characters will be flattened, basically. Even if you want to write something out of Heroica as a stand alone story, that's going to have to happen. I think what we are doing is cool, but for a lot of other forms of media, most of characters just wouldn't work. A lot of that is because there is no main struggle for our characters. Sure, for example Guts has his past that follows him around, made him what he is, and still needs to get in sync with, but that's all background noise. And if you want to have a main storyline, you need a protagonist, which we don't have. It's actually very possible one does emerge, although it's highly unlikely with the groups and stuff.
  2. How long will it be before the Heroica RPG is a video game?
  3. Hey. I never claimed to be able to do basic math.
  4. It's a bow. That means it has the same restrictions as any other bow. An Assassin could wield it because Assassin can wield everything a ranger can wield.
  5. When I have time, I will.
  6. Battle order next time, please. Results of Round One of the Creepy Basement Battle: Boomingham vs. Ghost - Damage (41 Health + 7 Defense - 46 = 2 Health) Ellaria nurtures Atramor - Nurture More Full Health Rufindel vs. "Suffering" - Special Damage (No Special Guard) Nyx vs. "Pain" - Greater Spell (WP: 13 x 3 + Level 22 = 61 (x2 Elemental Bonus) = 122 Damage Dealt) Skrall vs. "Pain" - Critical Hit (WP: 8 + 2 x 2 = 20 + level 21 = 41 Damage Dealt, + Knockback) Atramor vs. "Suffering" - Special Mirror Boomingham charges into battle, but he can't hit the ghost, and has to fall back, hit himself. Ellaria succesfully heals Atramor, who suddenly looks fine again. Rufindel tries to hit the statue with the sword, but is inflicted by it's magics. Nyx and Skrall both get solid hits on the other statue, pushing it back. Atramor quickly whips together a small voodoo doll resembling the right statue, which again inflicts it's curse upon the Witch. Atramor however allows the dropping venom to fall onto the doll, causing a similair effect on the statue! Rufindel, Atramor and the statue take damage from the venomous wounds, Rufindel falls. 7. I think killing off your character is unneccasary in most cases. The only good reason would be if you really hated the basic class you've chosen, and even then you should keep in mind that there's blurring going from level 15 and up. It's important to keep in mind you don't have to keep a clear lining for your character, if you think your character lacks something, you don't like the personality, you just change it! No one is going to mind if your character suddenly gets weak-willed around women, or has a tendency to sniff all the greenery around them, or even suddenly becomes a grumpy git, or the other way around, suddenly has a much happier view on life. Some changes may not be the most subtle and some of them might not be pulled off seamlessly, but really, no one minds. And at the end of the day it is most important you enjoy playing the character, and others enjoy interacting with the character, and that can be in a variety of ways! While different races might help to make a character interesting, I still think it's the style of the character and the actual roleplay that makes the character awesome. I must say there are some characters in the Heroica RPG whose race really adds something: (Skrall in particular), but there are also some where a different race adds very little to the actual character, looks maybe, and that's important too, but not the most important in my opinion. Think of it this way: A way of fighting all manner of things for money and other rewards, and free drinks and food inbetween jobs, you don't think that's bound to attract this sort of character: Human, they always are plentiful, impulsive, oppertunistic and focused on fighting in fantasy, Male, the more aggresive of the genders, if you discount verbally, that is. (no offense intended, ladies. ) Rogues: Free drinks, free food, fighting for riches? Seems logical doesn't it. A small critique is that I think you maybe should focus less on characters from popular media. I agree that Red vs Blue and the Assassin's Creed series are great things, but if you are going to focus on making your character like characters from those kind of sources, your character may not develop their own style, people might recognize the traits, and some may not get it, which is not very positive. References are awesome, of course, but focus on creating your own character, not copying exisiting ones, if that makes any sense. On a personal note, I think resurrecting Sarge as some kind of zombie is a good idea, maybe he was cursed or something, or has unfinished business or something along those lines. If everything else fails, you can always go for the classic knock over the head for a difference in style, or a horrible accident with a magical artifact.
  8. Mages can't heal. A cleric is the only basic class that can. When you can, you can buy a healing staff, which allows a mage to heal too, but it's nothing you can get right away. The reason why you would cast a spell is because you can do it from the back row with full damage, while an attack would either have to be from the front row and have more risk, or be from the back row and deal half damage (with most weapons). Also, depending on the gem you own and the element that relates to it, it is possible to deal bonus elemental damage (for example a plant is weak against fire.)
  9. Cool. You can learn most of it as you go, and even then, everyone still makes mistakes. And remember, there are people with very extensive Lego collections around, if you need a character made and you have an idea what pieces but you don't have them, there is probably someone around that DOES have the pieces and is willing to take a picture for you.
  10. Progg as in clog, for me.
  11. Psykater, just wondering, I have seen you hanging around, but you don't have a character (yet), are you going to make a character?
  12. It seems unlikely that there are both a framer and a scum role cop at work, doesn't it? So we need a few ideas of what might have happened: 1) I got framed by a framer that links two people, this framer is scum, the role cop is a friendly. We have no explanation of why the fact that Hervi had some sort of action was not brought forward. I also can't think of a good reason the framer would target me, perhaps the framer knew the role cop's target? 2) The (Scum) Role cop thought his result up. This seems unlikely as this would be very careless behaviour. 3) Something not yet disclosed has happened. By the way, Dragmall, I bet you a sixpack that there's a scum between the people that claimed to you.
  13. No, the standard amount, as do the effects you currently have. I'll edit it to reflect that. The bleeding effect stays, as it only goes away when you are healed to full health in battle, which has not happened.
  14. The party decides to sleep. In the same room as the statues that were killing them. Skrall sleeps up top, the rest downstairs. Not too long after, the whole party sleeps. Ellaria does not sleep well, suddenly, she is wide awake, and she knows what is etched in the bases of the two outer statues. She screams it out loud: "P-p-p- Pain! And Suffering!" The rest of the party wakes, and Skrall quickly makes his way down. As soon as Ellaria spoke the words, something changed. The party looks towards the statues, the two outer ones are moving towards the party, the stone behaving as flesh. In the middle, a ghastly appearance is floating in the air. The heroes have no choice but to engage. PREPARE FOR BATTLE! 15. No. But Guts can buy what you need, if really neccasary.
  16. Until the weather gods take heed to your advice, I guess.
  17. Now that seems like a good idea. Profit on a parody of one of the most atrocious pieces of literature (it's right after the last Harry Potter), that seems like a plan I could have thought up. Guts might be willing to give out loans, but it's probably not a good idea, for you, I mean. Guts would charge 25% interest, and the borrower would have to agree with the fact that any and all gold would go directly to Guts, all equipment and items that are not strictly neccasary would either have to be sold for gold, or given to Guts depending if Guts wants it. Yeah, you would have a hard time.
  18. Oh, excuse me, I was going on what was said a few days ago. No offense was intended. I am looking forward to what you've got.
  19. So, I have heard something about the Prankster again. Would he or she kindly step forward or contact me? Apparantly there might be a way to figure out a scum with the help of him or her.
  20. Guts changes his actions to be his first action to use a Nostrum on Namyrra, the second using Smelling Salts on Namyrra, and the third to attacking the Zombie Peasant with Fafnir. (if Sycamore is not dead, Guts will attack Sycamore instead.) Proposed: Guts uses Nostrum on Namyrra Namyrra attacks Sycamore Mizuki attacks Sycamore Benji attacks Sycamore twice Guts uses Smelling Salts on Namyrra Naymyrra attacks Sycamore (again) Dek'ra attacks enemy Daggerall uses Bone on Mephisto Guts attacks Zombie Peasant. Hybros attacks Skeleton Mage and Arioch Cinna attacks Lich Erik attacks Revenant Nobility Thotwick protects Skuld Skuld heals Scorched Skeleton Thalion attacks Spectre with Fire (2x damage) Nerwen heals Lich Ravager Sarick attacks Lich Warlord and Skeleton Knight Dreygur attacks Skeleton Free hits should be none, did I miss anyone in the battle order?
  21. If you roll a shield, you will do magic damage anyway, so you might as well use your fire attack on the skeleton.
  22. So for the folks who don't know what's going on, apparantly this role cop person investigated me and found out I'm some kind of protector/doctor, but he was woozy. Or something. What I request is that we get very specific paraphrasing of what he found out. Role cop, you must realize: I am vanilla. A 100%. I have no action, I have never had an action. I never received something, and all these nights I have slept without noticing anything. Without medication, too, quite impressive with all the killing going on, wouldn't you say? This "woozy" thing would presumably explain it, I hear you think. But I must ask you: How do you get a result that changes a vanilla into a doctor? Keep in mind this is the same role cop that presumably found out that found out that Hinckley had "some kind of converting action". Time is running short, if you know how to explain this stuff, just come forward, I am having more questions than answers today, and it's annoying. People aren't helping. There's folk like Wilhalm, who I don't particularly suspect, because being passive in these kind of situations is his style. Sure, in the cases where he's actually the bad guy that helps him greatly, but it hurts the town when he's town too, and I find that attitude bad. There's folk like Beorn who apparantly have little idea what's going on, and honestly, I can't blame you, I have the same problem. Because some scummy dick decided it would be a good idea to use dumb non-existing failing god-names, I have to read back 10 minutes before every statement to make sure I have the right god names, and still get it wrong. Some of the people (Cranebeinn) like to word things as impossible as they can. I am still not convinced about your innocence, Cranebeinn, I think you made a few too many "mistakes", the fact that you were intimately working with Hervi, and 'trusting' him does not sit right with me. The fact that you have an approximate one in three chance to fail seems bizarre and convenient for your current story. What if someone else, who is dead, actually was Hephaestos? Don't ask me who, I don't know, just throwing ideas around. It seems unlikely you would really give a bulletproof vest to a towny if you were scum. Could you explain the choices behind each of the targets, and what items and why those items you were giving them?
  23. Why so Negative? A Crit from Namyrra will take sycamore right out, a hit will leave her at 5 health. If we do solid tactics, we only take a few free hits. I think we'll be fine. Don't worry too much, we've got this.
  24. Benji, Hybros and Daggerfall still need to change their action.
