Excellent review of a great set! Everything is described, and the photos are good. Thanks! This is actually one of the Harry Potter sets I don't own, but I really, really want to get my hands on. It's definitely one of the best LEGO Harry Potter sets, it doesn't look like it needs any modifications to put in your own Hogwarts.

If you could change any one thing about Lego...
Matn replied to Darth Legolas's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The difference between the price in dollar and in euro. We pay a rather high price for the quality, so why would us, Europians, pay more for the same? You can see clearly the difference if you compare this year's Star Wars sets in dollar and in euro. Oh, and I would bring Harry Potter back, of course. -
My apologies for bumping this topic, but I have a question. I've bought an HP printer today and you can choose various sorts of paper when printing, and I'm not sure if I should use any specific setting? Do the people that print their decals on inkjet clear decal paper use a specific paper setting when printing? There are a few, including: normal paper, other inkjetpaper, photopaper(but we won't need those?) and transparant paper (maybe this is recommended?). There is also a special section including paper that you have to iron on clothing. I guess it doesn't matter if I choose the normal paper setting?

Nude in LEGO doesn't work. I've gotten my printer today, of course not the one that I had in mind but I'll hope it do the job also. Now I just have to wait when the pieces will fall in my mailbox, I hope monday. And I will probably adjust a LEGO weapen, or atleast paint it a bit to have a matching accesoire. (:

Thanks for this fantastic review! It's a beautiful set, for sure, but this review hasn't convinced to ever buy it. But I am tempted to buy it, but I don't think I ever will. The pieces included are awesome, the whole carousel is also pretty nice, but the price is way to much for me to afford. I'd rather buy some smaller and nicer sets than this one. Like, the minifigures in this set aren't impressive at all, and when you look at that Robo Attack set, you would know which to buy. And it looks a bit empty overall, actually. Maybe more fences, a waiting line or something on the empty baseplate would make it cooler. And the tan beards are some great new colored pieces. I must buy some! Oh, and it seems like a horse has fallen apart in your little movie.

The Pale Masque (Thunderhead Marauder skypirates)
Matn replied to Morgan19's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Sweet job! It would make a great theme. And it seems like Megabloks can come in handy sometimes. -
Congratulations!

That's a very nice city, I really like it! The houses fit really well together and especially that townhall is a beauty. And that bridge technique is also neat, I didn't know that. It's awesome, great job. I think, if you would add a bit detailed landscaping, it would become even nicer. Perhaps adding some dark grey 1x1 (round) plates to the ground of the city would work, or making the landscape outside the castle a bit rougher with green tiles. Anyhow, it's still very nice.

Mythological creatures - Sphinx
Matn replied to badboytje88's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Good job, it gives a good image of the Sphinx. But maybe you can make it a bit longer, or a bit smaller to be in scale with the minifigure but it looks actually fine. It would be nice to use a decal of some sort. Maybe you can add some tan hair that's fading out at the bottom of her torso? Here's how to put your images up, do it like this (but without the *): [*IMG]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2558/3694447726_19c958f43e.jpg[/*IMG] My guess is that you haven't deleted the "?v=0" from the imagelink from Flickr. EDIT: oh, and don't forget to add possible sets for this Greek mythology theme. -
Yes, indeed! That was real television for children, educational and fun to look at. If they would show it again on television, I would watch it out of nostalgic reaons. But I guess it's become too old now. Oh well, those were the days...

Thanks for the review. I'm not sure about the game itself, but as a partspack this seems rather nice. Don't get me wrong, I am excited about these new games. That Egyptian boardgame seems interesting, so does Creationary. I will probably get the Creationary game out of Germany, since they won't be released here soon.

Good job, I think it resambles really well one of the first cars. I like the weels. Maybe you can try to add some mudguards?

Thanks for cleaning up the entry topic, it was becomming a bit annoying to have an overall look of all the entries.

Ah, nice to see some pictures of it. And I actually liked the music when I entered the website. When you see it in its whole in one picture, it sure looks even more amazing and massive! It's so big! And I'm amazed that you've put in so many details in the building, unlike many other huge buildings and castles. The modular sections are also awesome, and it makes it probably much easier to put away or carry it around. Those four little towers look also very good. It's a shame that you can't add something under the tower, because some landscaping would make it even nicer. Imagine a little river under the bridge and greenery with trees surrounding the tower. But it still looks amazing, even without that. Oh, and maybe you can add an overall picture in your first post to make the people interesting.

I'm always impressed when people come up with some good alternative creations, and this is a good example of it. I like what you've done, especially the poodle.
-
Ah, what a shame that it isn't possible to finish it. But it still looks good, and you have even made room for some nice interior scenes. So, I'm looking forward how you will involve this doomed castle project in your new comic.

These look great! The decals are very nice, but I am most impressed by the way you have sculped the hair pieces. Such a high level of detail in such a small scale, great job.

No, I wasn't inspired by that. I got the idea back in January, but to get more into the theme I tried to remember a cartoonshow when I was little. It was about the human body and everything, and little humans explained everything while they were fighting diseases and viruses. And yes, they did that with help of other body cells. I was going to do that also, but I think for a LEGO theme it would become to complicated. And thanks Lordofdragonss.

Do you like to spill the beans or spring a surprise?
Matn replied to Commodore Hornbricker's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I like to make work in progress pictures for big projects. But only when I'm ran out of pieces. For instance, when I was building Hogwarts: part 1, I ran out of pieces and then I took a WIP photo. And then when I got my pieces I made it and made some final photos of the first part. And then I can get tips so I can adjust it very quickly. I get an idea and I build it. If I ran out of pieces, I take some WIP photos to show what I'm doing at this moment. With my latest MOC (the Burrow) I have not made any WIP shots. I got the idea and I said on Flickr that I will make it. And then I work on the MOC, and all the pieces I needed were in my possesion, so the next day when it was finished I uploaded photos of it. So, for small things I don't do it. And then again, if I take WIP photos it's because I've got nothing to do and that I have to wait for more pieces. I think it's fun to watch other people their work in progress because you can always learn something of it and you can give comments and tips while the person is building. EDIT: now that I think of it, I am building some medieval houses now for another project and I've ran out of pieces. Normally I would make some WIP shots, but it isn't so interesting to show it. Because I'm only at the first stages. And making work in progress photos of houses isn't interesting I think. And you get a bigger "wow"-effect when you upload the final subject from the start, if you know what I mean. -
I have updated this thread with sereval new sets for this LEGO Body Miners theme with information and everything. I should also say that my decals are ready and that I've got my hands on decal printing paper.

"Mmmmm Chrooooome!" A rather jealous Harry Potter poses next to a part of the possesions in the Lestrange vault.
-
What a massive tower! And you've even put in some nice details. I also like the bridge. Man, this is so huge. I sure hope it never falls down, because it seems to me that it's pretty fragile.

Nice first (?) stop-motion movie. I hadn't done it better my first time. With a bit of effort, it can become better. I think you can chose more frames per second in Windows Movie Maker, to do so: Extra > Options > Advanced an then use the lowest time to go to another frame. Tape the camere to something, or just don't touch it. If you're taking pictures frame by frame try not to touch the camera, only the button to take a picture. Better lightning would also help and perhaps zooming in and out would make it a lot more interesting. It's good that you tried to make a "film-studio", and I like what you've done. And if you think that's it isn't such a good movie, then don't upload it. Maybe you can try it again, if you try a bit more the result can become better. Because if your not happy with it yourself, I doubt lots of other people will be happy with it. When you practise and practise, and after that practise some more, you'll get a good stop-motion movie. It's like that with everything.

Welcome to the Brick Flicks & Comic Forum!
Matn replied to Hinckley's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Thanks for this new board! It really inspires me to start all over again with trying to make a first brickfilm. -
Woah, I didn't knew this. I'm not sure which one I like more, but that new cap is very, very cool!
