  1. SlyOwl

    New LEGO cap!

It looks like a duck! Boo! Good for variety and I hope Bricklink lists the two types differently - otherwise I'll never have one, as I don't buy Town... See the flag discussion on Classic-Castle here; no-one seems to know why, but it seems not to be a universal change, unlike the caps (?)
  2. Masts are difficult to build - either you need to go fully brick-built, or you could experiment with attaching two mast sections together. I use 2 old-style small masts, with a new style (hole in the bottom) 4x4 brown tub as a crow's nest inbetween the two sections. Then a 4L bar goes up the middle of the tub, and into both of the mast pieces (I drill a small hole in the horizontal reinforcement at the base of the top mast to make the bar fit, but it's not noticable). If you're just looking for masts a bit longer than the BB ones, go with the full old-style assembly (tall base, middle section, platform, 2 long riggings, small mast). Various ship and mast building techniques can be found in the Accessory MOCs index and Ship index. Hornbricker is also working on a ship building tutorial/index, here.
  3. No for me. Although backpacks aren't hard or tight fitting enough to scratch the print, I prefer them without, applying to all Imperial figs, not just the new ones. Epaulettes on first - it looks silly otherwise
  4. There's the golden Indy idol and the new gold baby t-rex, beside the older Adventurers Sundisk (that should really have belonged to the Islanders too). True, these are all expensive on Bricklink, but hey, they're rare valuables! Personally, I'm sick of gems, and would like some more gold bars in sets instead. As mentioned, a transparant idol of some kind (Indy, baby t-rex, Sebulba...) would be neat. Perhaps in pearl gold or silver, so they don't chip/flake?
  5. Not really. The swear filter would change the most likely word in Armendariz's sentence to megabluk...
  6. Also by Ben - ...and in conjunction with Bluesecrets RTN LNA's fleet - (see more here) Bluesecret's d'Blue-n Lagoon Saloon Arne Lander's Gift Shop Giant pirate by ??? Nope, Ben says it's one of these - so not purist, but still just as effective. It would have been cool to have built the underneath of the spilled lava transparant, to let the lava spill glow as well.
  7. Thanks all! Nope, the sticker sheet from the Advanced Lego Club Member Pack, 1999. Hehe, I might have something coming up The peace sign is string over and around a 2x2 round tile, inserted between two 1x4 arches The string came with my BSB off eBay, although it seems thinner than my other thin Lego string, so it might just be normal sewing thread... stupid eBay I experimented with nets, but they were too bulky.
  8. It would be best to edit the post (as there's a 60 image limit per post, you might need to add a new post, and shift everything down by a post, if you exceed the maximum number of posts). The indexes are currently done chronologically, as they're intended more for inspiration than finding specific techniques, and it's easier that way
  9. The neck joints with a slot in them stay in the head when it is removed. They can be taken off, but it's very difficult. I use a pair of needle-nose pliers to prise the neck out, but it causes noticable scratches to the bottom of the head and upperside of the ball. The neck joints without a slot in them stay in the body when the head is pulled off (these are older, I think). For these, remove the legs and use a pointy thing (I use a thin bolt) to push up through the hole in the bottom of the torso, underneath the neck socket. There's no noticable damage, if you take care.
  10. The style that was employed in the Forestmen theme was very similar to that being anticipated in elf sets, and there were, particularly in the other thread, people saying they would like, or were anticipating, Forestmen, if not elves, which could be easily adapted. (I had originally intended to post it in the other thread, but Dil closed it, and the gist is roughly the same in both threads) Heck, did anyone ask about forestmen?
  11. Forestmen... (Just to add that topic (pic is link) back into the equation...)
  12. Congrats everyone! This is the kind of contest I'd have loved to enter, not only because I own a minimal amount of SW Lego, but because it's innovative and fun.
  13. Loosely based on (starts at 1:10) from Die Welle. All purist, apart from Tim's face, and the SlyOwl graffiti... It was scary how similar Tim and Hinck look in minifig form... Trolley inspired by Michael Jasper
  14. I don't own this, but it passed through my possession, en-route to ISC. I can build the BSB in one building session, and the SES in one or two. With this one, however, I completely lost concentration when it came to the sails and mast, which isn't a positive sign. However, it's perfect for playing with - the forward-positioned sails, rotating cannon and decent figure selection are great for that. The figurehead is the highlight of this set (sorry ISC ), which nearly makes up for an otherwise aesthetically shoddy, but functional, build. I'll pick one up at some point in my life, but it's by no means a priority, and only if it's really cheap. I always see it as part of the SES' fleet, but if not, it makes a good source of sails to expand the SES.
  15. Too bad you're not right. From Whung's gallery - New micro car chassis...
  16. The diagonal spars on the shipwreck really make it - it's an unusual and effective technique The sand-cliff is also something I'd like to see more of - MOCs with sand, including my own, too often take sand as a 2d element, without recognising its 3d-ness, especially when compacted or in dunes. Dude, should have been done by PM. As for bumping old topics, only do it if you have something to add that hasn't been said already. Thanks
  17. Thanks for the info - I picked one up this morning, the last one There was only 1 in each of my other local Argoses, according to the website, so it looks like a very last-stock thing. At £16 it's a good buy, definitely not the rip-off of £25, but some of the other similar priced sets are much better value, like Tower Raid...
  18. Woody64's wig. Michael Jasper's wig (not sure if this is the right kind...) You could do brick-built versions (like Michael Jasper's) - Willy Scott hairpiece?
  19. These are hilarious! Keep it up! The second one should be an actual set - Flip down the spider and web to scare Little Miss Muffet!
  20. I must say that I really enjoyed going through the folder 22,000 people? Wow! It's really nice to see an under-over water collaboration - were there any mishaps en-route to successful "floating"? The Spanish/Portuguese style buildings are lovely, as are the little touches like the black fantasy tentacle, birds and nest and jellyfish (chef's hat and seaweed?) The Fabuland boat works really well as a laden-down boat. Very reminiscent of a fish-smelling port. Luis' fort and Ricardo's port (those are the two I recognise) fit in really well to the layout; I think I mentioned to Ricardo at the time that I had some concerns over the rocks on the front of his port, by I can see where he's coming from now And that windmill sure is spinning fast! Overall a definite improvement on last year's - will we be seeing some custom ships next year, now the islands are MOCs? (On another note, I just saw your un-entered Captain's Cabin Contest Entry, Marcos - I love the curved walls and overall atmosphere - it's a shame it was too big. I'm guessing you were trying to use the lamp and grills to get a stripy shadowed effect? I once tried it with a dungeon, but the bars had to be bricks to make any sort of impact on the lighting...)
  21. The photoshopping is, indeed, poor. I'm surprised that we have got a white-background picture, not a box-front picture too. What makes me think that this isn't the finished product is the Christmas tree. At the top, under the 1x1 cone, I'm assuming there is a travis brick (1x1 brick with studs on 5 sides). However, the 1x2 plates with 1x1 plates on the sides are not fully pushed down - they're at an angle. Either this means a new piece, or is a draft - preliminary, or the finished set, but not finally photographed and photoshopped. Besides that, I'll end up getting it on sale if anything, as the full price ($60 plus, at a guess) will be too much for the usage I can get for it compared to pirate/castle sets of the same value. The lampost glass orbs don't look like crystal orbs - are they Sandy space helmets? That would be very useful.
  22. Chromebricks.com - custom chrome bricks! (Shamelessly stolen off Bruce N H )
  23. By TinyPiesRUs - See more in the Pirate MOCs Based on Paintings Index
  24. Click the pic (not mine) $7, with the measurer thing. Sounds like a reasonable deal - with 2 brick seperators it'd be a sure buy.
  25. Thanks for the review! The 5 (!) spears, green plate, quantities of grey bricks, plant thing - all useful for MOCing. 2 figs too, in a small set for $7 - I really should have got more at the time. The pegleg is my only gripe - he can't sit down, and now has to bang his head every time you pick the set up And I've always found it hilarious how the Islander neatly stores the pirate's musket and cutlass for when he escapes, rather than purloining or destroying them With that particular Islander face, I've found that the white print yellows over time to a tan - useful for variety! Thought I'd mention that...
