  1. The reflections on the water really add a touch of realism and scale to this outstanding MOC I'm sure I'll come back to this for reference in the future. Mr. Brick goes by the alias The Brick Time aswell, but isn't a member, although we featured The Admiral Benbow Inn here...
  2. I'd guess it's a round decal, with notches cut in the sides to stop it crinkling when applied.
  3. Bluebard, I never commented on this at the time, but I will now. You've got loads of great techniques and details - small cannon, barricades - very French Revolution I'd only suggest a bit more texture on the slightly bland floors - the odd tile or plate or "stone" would make a difference. Lovin' it! Please don't bump an old thread unless you've got something to add besides "I like your MOC" etc. Um... what does this contribute to the discussion?
  4. The mix of minifig and fabuland works really well for Matthias there, Hound Knight. Any chance you'll be doing Cornflower et all? Only trouble is the hare doesn't quite inspire the fear of the Long Patrol! They're really not that different in scale - most minifig stuff is oversized as it is, so all you need to do is build a longer bed and a taller door Brickarms sword (out of production, I think) and Brickforge round shield
  5. Wow, thanks for all the feedback! There seems to be a degree of confusion about various aspects of the MOC. It started out as a desolate ghost-mining-town built into the mountainside, but then the inside of the mine was a more interesting concept. As such, the outside was intentionally bleak, but with the prospect of adding buildings which never came to be. Heck, the wagon itself was an afterthought - I'd planned to extend the rocks upwards into a mountain tip. The rock itself was inspired by what I can remember of seeing in Picnic at Hanging Rock (hence the hung skeleton), but I hadn't any particular rock formation in mind (although it is obviously skewed sedimentary ). The inside of the MOC was going to be a bandits' den (hence the bed, and bandits riding home with a prisoner), but, as usual with my MOCs, got out of hand, and I ended up with a POTC2 inspired action sequence - a runaway mill wheel with people fighting on top, dragging some mine carts which in turn are dragging the guy holding the chain. I had some trouble showing the motion, but the sparks from the minecart wheels and posing of the people on top were intended to show this. It looks better in real life, with more angles to see the otherwise obscured parts of the MOC. That should about answer most of the questions El Nombre! Only in human form. I've got a WIP of the real thing. It's a mixture of sloping pieces and what are essentially walls put on top of hinges, to slant them. The inside is packed with bricks and plates to stop them tilting on the hinges. On the left, no? The top 2x2 round of the main pillar is upside-down (inverted using the barrels halfway down and a 6L bar), and has a wrench/spanner with the closed loop inserted into the technic axle hole. The triangular road signs clip onto the bottom of this, and a piece of flex tubing passes through the hole in the spanner and into the hole in the bottom of the 2x2 rounds which go off at angles. For the sole reason that I didn't want to be seen to be repeating myself - there's so much in common between this and my dwarven rollercoaster that I mentally refused to take that extra step. I would have liked to have done, though BTW, your various wild west MOCs were very influential in this - capturing the overall feel of a mine. This came about because I essentially abandoned the outside in favour of the inside. And because the outside was going to be barren anyway.
  6. My dad stopped by a WHSmith at lunchtime today, and they were out of today's freebies, but not newspapers... Anyway, for the one paper he bought, the woman gave him two Imperial Speeder Bikes - it's worth asking around for surplus.
  7. *run-away millwheel - POTC2*
  8. They make neat metallic greebles e.t.c. on steampunk, post-apoc, space - and so forth. But beyond that, aside from as helmets, I haven't seen much else.
  9. Review up on Brickshelf by Rogueyoda - Same format as Castle box last year - Nice!

    Lego logos

Interesting topic. I immediately thought the "grain" logo was based on Weetabix - I too thought it was a real company. I'm assuming the name is based on Octane, a hydrocarbon used in fuel. I can't imagine TLG using franchises such as Shell and McDonalds nowadays, as they have bad reputations/connotations. I think it's great that Octan exists as a plausible, but fictional, company only in the Legoverse.
  11. Nice play on a croc using a fishing line to catach fish Very peaceful and serene - good to see a light blue stream as a change
  12. Happy Birthday! I'm still wondering what those symbols surrounding Indy are, though...
  13. As said, the quality is very good. The plastic and colours are as near to official as you're going to get, and I love the designs, especially the turban/Arabian helmet combo. My only concerns are - - Some of the weapons don't fit very snugly in a minifig hand - but some squeezing alleviates this. - Some "mould scraps" - thin bits of excess plastic left over from production still attached. Can be shaved off with a craft knife. I've only experienced this on the round shield, though. But those are minor details.
  14. These look great! I was following the progress on Flickr absorbedly! I think the pricing is about right - I would expect to pay $5 - $20 for classic sails, depending on their rarity. You could probably make quite a mint making and selling replicas on Bricklink, in particular the Imperial Flagship and Trading Post sails. Is the cloth porous enough to allow for staining with a teabag? Sure thing! I'm guessing you did these current ones by tolerance filling the SES sail scan (to get uniform colours), and then changing the colours/removing the jolly roger? It shouldn't be too difficult with these.
  15. There'll be a surprise or two from Classic-Pirates too
  16. Those kilts look really good, although I'm not really feeling the red-and-white trim on the socks. Personally I'm a fan of Michael Jasper's techniique for kilts - using torsos as legs. The technic 1/2 pins and 1x1 tiles can be replaced by stacked 1x1 round plates to allow for attachment to baseplates. Still, in large quantities, your technique looks great and is easily reproducable!
  17. $100 or so more. The original set was $20 more than the BSB, and was rarer anyway. The BSB was also re-released, which doesn't affect the price of MIB sets, but the price of box-less ones is lower.
  18. SES - it's worth more, sell it and buy a BSB!
  19. Oh yeah, that's some nice wavey-goodness! I'd only recommend putting cheese slopes instead of that 1x8 tile.
  20. There will be a massive Classic-Pirates contest launching 1st October, so this should ideally have wrapped up by then
  21. My hamster bit one of the buttons off my Mindstorms remote My sister had her at the time and let her wander off towards my collection... (pic is Bricklink) It still works okay, but you have to press a lot harder on the stub... BTW, I've got free Lego because of a dog, so it ain't all bad! On two separate occassions I've found small, slightly chewed, clusters of bricks, which have been usable, and frequently used at that!
  22. My reasoning exactly. However, on his blog, it says that they are only using "new and undamaged bricks for maximum strength", which gets me wondering why they wanted donations anyway... Ah, right, thanks for the heads-up
  23. 85. 86. 87. 88. 89. 90. 91. 92. 93. 94. 95. 96. 97. 98. 99.
  24. A great variety of figs, especially those plumes! As said, brighter, sharper pictures would improve this a lot. I'll have to remember the flipper/fan technique Too bad it doesn't come in white, but I guess one could heavily bleach/paint a light grey one...
  25. You've got a really nice series of MOCs there, and the construction is consistently top-of-the-range. In particular, the white stone detailing is fantastic. The painted parts don't show up unless you know what you're looking for What is the purpose of the smaller scale gates? This probably belongs best in the Pirate MOC forum, given its nautical theme and time period
