It's actually not too bad of a connection. But I just naturally hold the figure at the connection to avoid it coming apart when moving things. Either way, it's not going to just snap in half while it's on the shelf. :P Not sure about the beam since the rest of the midsection is a neutral color with the Mixel balljoint, and that's the same with all the figures. The Bohrok Eyes seemed to have slipped past my detection, so I may need to order some of those. Thanks!

It's been a long time coming, but I've finally completed my Toa Mata revamps. Group shot by Kalhiki, on Flickr So this was a project that I've been wanting to complete for a while. Basically the goal was to have revamps of all six Toa Mata, however, there were a few conditions to this goal. Mainly, I wanted to use the original feet, weapons and masks since those are the most iconic. In terms of design, they needed the back gear (even though it does nothing here aside from added aesthetics), and they had to be no bigger than the original Toa Mata (actually ended up being shorter). There were some other design aspects I wanted like the chest balljoint (and Gali's socket chest), using the Toa Metru head, and general proportions (Onua and Pohatu). I started the builds with the limbs since I wanted to use that boat stud technique. Once that was done, it was off to the torso. Took me a while to figure out a good waist articulation method, but the Mixel balljoint was definitely the way to go. Overall, it was kinda tough trying to figure out how to build so small. Once I had the limbs, I was pretty much locked at that size. All that was left was to get the parts for everyone (lucked out and found all the Toa sans Pohatu at a flea market), and the end result is what we have here. I'm quite happy with how they turned out. Some colors needed to be altered since they weren't available. Also had to change the eye colors since I wanted to use the Metru heads, but I feel the substitutions made worked out well. Few more pics, spoilers for cleanliness. ONUA POHATU GALI KOPAKA LEWA TAHU More pictures on the Flickr album including front and back shots, and a size comparison.

Very true. It wouldn't be necessary for a Dino line to be JP/W specific, but considering the current popularity and hype around the franchise what with the new movies coming out, I feel it'd be more logical for Lego to just market the line as a JW tie-in. Either way. CCBS Dinosaurs need to happen. Yeah, a reboot of the 2001 theme is actually what I was thinking. If there's any Constraction theme (I guess that's considered Constraction? Kinda, not really?) that needs a reboot, it's the old Dinosaurs line.

Oh hey, Lockwood Manor isn't too bad. Wasn't that excited for it, but seeing different angles made it a lot better. I'll still hold off on it for a bit since it isn't a priority, but some day I'll get it.

Great MoC! Love the coherence throughout the build. The vent texturing looks really good.

While I'd prefer an in-house theme, I wouldn't mind seeing constraction Jurassic Park/World. After all, if it's just CCBS Dinos they'd be making, Dinosaurs are just... y'know, Dinosaurs. It's not like it's a specific character. Plus, with JW's whole "build your on Dino Hybrid" thing, customizing figures or having combi models would work well, too for the line.

The truth behind the infamous Ninjago "constraction" blade
Kalhiki replied to TwistLaw's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Yeah, not sure what I'd use it for. I know it's small, but like you said, it's just a good looking piece. It'd just be nice to have some on hand in case I find a use for it.- 13 replies

The truth behind the infamous Ninjago "constraction" blade
Kalhiki replied to TwistLaw's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Very cool! I really hope the folks who worked in Constraction continue to throw some of these kind of parts into System sets. I'm going to need to see if I can get my hands on some of those blades.- 13 replies

Eurobricks Glinch Royale Competition (WINNERS ANNOUNCED)
Kalhiki replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
uwu What's this? Got no Galidor parts and am in no inclination to go and buy any. Maybe. But the other category has peaked my interest. I'll see if I can throw something together. Galidor contest... What a time to be alive. -
Yeah, that was it. Going off of what you said about intercompatibility and swapping parts, I feel like that would lend itself well with a Monster Hunter type theme. Like, build your own monster or some-such. I was thinking there could be a special part or something that had multiple connection points for different add-ons. Horns, claws, feathers, armor, scales. A way to really customize the creation. Either way, I agree. CCBS is really good for easy building, and I wish they marketed that more. I feel Hero Factory did it pretty well since it was literally a factory that made these Heroes, which I found creatively inviting for making characters.

Monster Hunter World. Not really my type of game, but could resist that wicked aesthetic. It takes some getting used to, and there's a lot to learn, but I'm enjoying it.
-
I've been playing Monster Hunter World recently, and I think it'd be incredible to have something like that in Constraction (I feel like someone mentioned this earlier in the thread). Constraction dinosaurs/dragons would be amazing and also provide us with loads of non-humanoid builds. Then there could also be minifigs and maybe some sort of armaments like the old Vikings sets to fight the creatures.

[RUMOR] Bionicle might be returning in 2019
Kalhiki replied to TwistLaw's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Heh. I'll believe it when I see it. But if it turned out to be true, I'd be more upset that it isn't a new Constraction theme but instead the third iteration of Bionicle. Why can't I have something new? Let Bionicle rest in peace. -
For System-based, do we even really need super-big sets? I mean, just look at Mixels. Small articulated figures for $5. Maybe make the sets into the $10 range for a bit more detail and articulation. Plus, not only is that cheaper, but the smaller size would provide more room for larger sets/characters/vehicles/etc. Part of the reason why I didn't much care for Bio G2 was the larger size for the Toa. Loved the direction the first few waves of HF took by having all the Heroes as small sets. And, said larger sets in this hypothetical line could have a greater reliance on CCBS or Technic. Best of both worlds. Something else I thought about was a Constraction Minifig. Like the Technic figures from back in the day, but smaller. If Friends can have Minidolls, is it out of the question to see some sort of Constraction-specific Minfig? Maybe something with added articulation?

Neat. I guess this makes Blue the first non-standard Brickhead, huh? Haven't gotten in to the Brickheadz, but I may pick up the two-pack just because of Blue. He's pretty cool.

Oh thank god, it's a new print. And it actually looks really good, I gotta say. The set isn't too bad either. Similar to the JW one, but less tank-y and more semi-truck-y. What are the T-Rex's colors, though? Kinda hard to tell. Reddish Brown, Dark Orange, and...? Brick Yellow maybe? Definite buy for me either way.

Hopefully the T-Rex is green or some other color. I'd like another T-Rex that isn't the same one from the Jurassic World Transporter/Fallen Kingdom Juniors set. On the new sets: I'm not sold on them yet. The Dilophosaurus looks much better than the JW one, but I don't know if I really need another Dilo. JP set is pretty cool, and I think they did a fairly good job of including so many locations in such a small build. But it is a small build with only one Raptor for $40, and I don't know if I can justify that... It's a good looking Raptor, though.

Posting this here since it seems like a more appropriate place than the SW thread. I'll be honest, it's sad to see the wave canned, though I'm not surprised to see it go. But right now, I'm more concerned with Constraction's future which is now... Uncertain, at best. So my mind wandered to what could "save" Constraction from an ultimate demise. And I gotta say, I still believe the Mixels joints are the best bet. While I have no sources to back this up, I feel System's strength is why Constraction is failing. Looking back to the start of Bionicle, wasn't the Lego market weak and/or failing? And with the innovation of Bio and Mindstorms, the brand got its strength back. And over time, System was able to build its strength as well. Either way, nowadays, the general consensus seems that kids are more interested in building with bricks than with bones. That being said, I really think introducing more bricks (if not just having an entire brick-based theme) into Constraction is the way to go. Maybe having smaller, brick-based sets and larger sets that are dominantly Constraction. I really don't want the Constraction community to phase out either. So I'd like to invite everyone to share some opinions, hopes, and dreams here. Let's just keep it civil. ;)

Star Wars Constraction 2018 Discussion & Rumors
Kalhiki replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Could it be possible that's a regional thing? I recall the last wave of Chima Ultrabuilds was only released in Europe or some such (either way, they weren't available in the States, iirc). Maybe we're looking at the same thing? -
Probably be getting all of those except for the Duplo sets (obviously) and Pteranadon Escape since I already have that version of the Dino. I'll get the Chase version since it's green. Also pretty excited about the Juniors set with the green raptor. Really like the Raptor's colors.

Bare minimum, Spino would only need two new molds. Three max. Use T-Rex body, legs, and tail and Indominus arms/hands. Then make a new head and sail piece. If you want to be closer to the JW video game, it'd also need a new neck piece (which would probably look better, honestly). Then, if we go by the video game, Baryonyx would be the same, minus the sail. Is there any possibility of a second wave? I don't know how far into the year things have been leaked.

Well, they've reused the molds for all the other dinosaurs. It'd be really unfortunate if that was the only one that became unusable. Also, considering the T-Rex and Pterodactyl come in Juniors sets, I figured colors wouldn't be as big of a problem considering the target audience. I doubt younger kids would really care. And honestly, I think it'd make the sets more desirable since it'd provide variants of the mold (except for the folks who didn't get the JW sets, I guess). Doesn't even need to be green per-say. Just something different.

I kinda wish the juniors sets had variants of the dinosaurs included. Like, have the T-Rex and Pterodactyl be the green versions from the 2012 Dino theme. As of now, I'm not sure if I'll get those since I don't know if I really need duplicate dinosaurs. Also still miffed to see there's still no confirmation of any large herbivores. Especially a triceratops since they already have a mold for that... (kicking myself for passing on the 2012 Dino line)

Dude... What? That's crazy cool. Really neat to see all those pistons in action. It looks like the mask was 3D printed as well. Was that just to keep the colors consistent?

Loved the Jurassic World sets, so I'm pretty stoked for the Fallen Kingdom ones as well. But I'm a little disappointed that there are apparently no herbivores. C'mon, I just want a Triceratops... And an Ankylosaurus. And not sure how I feel about the Indoraptor... Eh. Carnotaurus is cool to see, though. Looks like I'll be buying all these as well like I did for JW.
