LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

I don’t think anyone should expect a full interior for a set that big, especially considering the Falcon and the ISD. It needs structural integrity. -

Minifig scale is a range, not a set number. Hence why the enormous discrepancy in sizes in “minifig scale” UCS sets, the Slave 1 is way too small and the Razor Crest is way too big, for example, relative to the Falcon. It all depends on what element they use as the focal point for their scaling. -

I’d imagine minifig scale wouldn’t be too unreasonable, considering the ghost is similar in size to the Falcon -

I see Lego doing a UCS Ghost in a few years to replace the Razor Crest as the second Disney-era UCS set. -

All these clones and no sets to put them in. I suppose the plain whites can go inside the coruscant gunship like we see them alongside shock troopers in Mando S3. But clone turbo tank or UCS AT-TE would really hit the spot right now -

The bartering scene takes place at the palace, not the barge. Boba and Luke duke it out on the skiff, not on the barge. It sounds like the skiff and the sarlaac would have to carry this set as an MBS, which is strange considering the barge would be 90%+ of the set. It’s still a paltry number of scenes compared to what could be accomplished with an Ewok Village/Moon base, which is shame considering it’s from the same film. -

It’s not about the details, it’s about what scenes are captured in the set. Sure, the AT-AT has a full interior, but we never see anything beyond the cockpit in the film. MBS sets capture big movie set pieces, and the barge doesn’t offer nearly as many as the cantina, or cloud city, or Ewok village, etc. -

It could be, but every leak has called it a “UCS” set. It’s more of a ship than a “place” though, and as far as a playable scene goes, more memorable ones took place on the skiff than the barge itself, whereas the Cantina had a ton of callbacks to scenes from ANH. Just looking at the pedigree of MBS sets like Betrayal at Cloud city, there’s tons of little movie moments recreated in the set, I don’t see the Barge offering the same volume. -

A “remake” of a set released over two decades ago, the quality of which has been outdone by playsets since, is hardly disappointing imo. Excited to see the UCS interceptor. Glad I got the UCS Tie fighter on the aftermarket, it seems that won’t get another remake for a very long time, considering the other variants that have to get remade first. Only thing that disappoints me is that we’re getting two OT UCS sets next year, and no MBS to replace the Cantina when it retires, which is wacky considering how successful it is. -

Ironic you bring up the AAT, that was near universally criticized for looking nothing like the source material -

Never said it doesn’t have to be accurate, just that accuracy is secondary to play functionality and fun factor. Also price. But ultimately, if this were truly an issue that most kids cared about the sets wouldn’t be selling. And they are, which means most kids don’t care enough. Contrast that with atrociously inaccurate and poorly priced sets like the hulkbuster for adults, which received massive discounts and pushback due to inaccuracies, because the target demographic is far more likely to care about such things. -

Cool. Most don’t. Which is why Lego continues putting out sets like this and they still sell like hotcakes. I’ll trust the billion dollar corporation whose business depends on selling to kids to know what kids like. -

In response to someone saying it was actually an accurate looking set, which it absolutely is not. Still a fine toy though. Because Lego puts out collector-quality sets that are supposed to be highly accurate and detailed, and those sets deserve scrutiny on how well they achieve that accuracy. Kid’s sets on the other hand should be scrutinized for other reasons, like how fun, or functional a toy it is. I never said the sets shouldn’t be criticized, but the things people nitpick in a children’s set seems more in line with adult thinking rather than kid thinking. -

It’s a children’s set, point blank, end of discussion. An inaccurate-looking set is not “substandard”, because it’s a toy, meant to be played with, not displayed on an adult’s shelf. If that’s what you fancy, there’s an 18+ line. Does the set satisfy the requirements of being stable, fun to play with, and does it look cool? That’s all that matters. Trust me, ten year olds do not care about the proportions of the cockpit, or if the sliding door mechanism is accurate to the source material. -

Another set leak, another group of adults confused as to why the children’s toy is designed for children. The highly detailed, properly proportioned gunship is already on sale. -

Yoda’s starfighter should have a cockpit very similar to anakin’s Jedi interceptor, but Lego instead chose to use the tie cockpit and applied stickers on top to simulate the rest of the windows. Looks very wonky. -

I honestly wouldn’t mind if we dropped a UCS set every two years for an MBS. Star Wars is home to to many rich locations to be this ignored. -

Yavin is way too juniors-y for me, I need something more on par with the Cantina’s quality, and I wouldn’t mind Yavin getting a true MBS treatment in the future. Haven’t seen the interior yet of course, but the facade looks blander than the exterior of Vader’s Castle which was around the same piece count. A set to get just for the figs and spare parts, although I do think the mini y-wing is cute. 332nd battle pack will be a good army builder. The lack of printing on Vaughn’s visor is disappointing, the figure bears little resemblance to the source. Yoda’s starfighter looks about as good as it should, but not radically better than the last rendition. -

Adults getting upset that children’s toys don’t appeal to them, how confusing. Lego should go back to capping the ages on their boxes for anything under 16/18 but it’s better for marketing I suppose. 6-12, 9-14, would clear up a lot of confusion from the adults who are wondering why a set intended for kids is “inaccurate” or “not canon”. -

Looks like the boba in the mech has different printing than the UCS/Cloud City Bobas. But it looks just as good, if not better. Collectors still keep an exclusive figure and everyone now has access to a cheap and excellent looking boba, win/win -
