Pretty sure he meant the two swing-out bubble turrets, in exchange for doors that close -

Isn’t the next sequel sequel trilogy happening within the next 3 years? I may have bad news about the future of clone wars sets -

Personally I think the gunship is a top 5 UCS set, it looks gorgeous. But yeah, Lego is surely aware of army builders, but the fact they impose caps on Lego exclusive army builders (like last year’s phase 1 clone accessory pack) tells me they care more about the general audience than the people willing to buy dozens of a set. -

What I’m saying is that Lego doesn’t care about the minuscule audience who will make a fuss about the red gunship not being white. And if adults want a generic gunship they have the UCS gunship which they voted for, which is almost exactly what Lego said lol. -

I mean, other than it being oversized, it’s quite literally the same thing. But being that these are play sets, and thus appeal less to adult collectors than UCS sets, Lego cares less about checking every adult’s “iconic” box and more so making a cool-looking set for all audiences. Lego plays fast and loose with the cohesion and screen accuracy of play sets and I don’t expect that to change. -

To be very fair on the last point, we already have a giant AOTC UCS gunship in the classic scheme. They’ve covered that base technically -

This tbh. Not to sound like an armchair marketer, but given the choice between a massable vs unique ship, why on earth would you choose the latter? Kids will get one. Adults and kids with rich parents who would have gotten several generics will get one or two. -

Every sub-18 set is directed towards kids. And yet, there’s an ocean of difference between the quality of a set like the fighter tank and a set like, say, the playscale Batman Tumbler (which has a ridiculous attention to detail) while costing the same. “it’s just a kids set” is an empty hand wave that frees Lego of the responsibility of making decent sets -

That last point is absolutely valid, they were definitely working on a tighter budget for that set. I guess the last year has spoiled me, Lego stepped up their set designs across the board. -

Headscratcher. I’m also now reminded that the printed tie fighter hatch for current set 75300 is on backwards on all the marketing and the instructions. These are easy fixes so no harm done, but still, how does that happen? -

That’s good for you, for many of us who care about Star Wars vehicle sets looking like actual Star Wars vehicles, it looks awful. “Close enough” (in this case, hardly, it looks nothing like the source) doesn’t cut it when lego is capable of great accuracy (as seen in many of the sets releasing this year) and when they’ve literally done better in the past (2009 AAT) -

I’ll say it again: they love the clone wars, they don’t care as much for strictly prequel film sets. Nothing from TPM. Nothing non-clone on the market for the prequel era. -

The 2020 AAT? Dude it’s terrible lol, it looks nothing like the source material, from the comically oversized cannon and turret head, to the bulbous base. They nailed the design in 1999 and 2009. -

A little disappointed that the gunship is going to be all red. When have we even seen this on screen? 10 years since the last one and instead of giving us a versatile generic color scheme that works with multiple legions, we’ll be getting one that ONLY complements the Coruscant guard. Of course, this is assuming the disgruntled ex-employee who leaked this info on reddit is telling the truth. -

The tie bomber style doesn’t work for anything that doesn’t have a cylindrical cockpit. You can find MOCs of tie fighters done in this style and they look like yo-yos -

Not even close. And anything before ~2015 looks very outdated hence why we’re getting yet another X-wing. Also, not everyone has been collecting for a decade plus. -

The gunship having Fox and Shock Troopers is nice but feels like it was -this- close to greatness. In the scene this seems loosely based on, you’d expect plain white clones. What am I supposed to fill the gunship with? Considering Lego is treating Shock Troopers as pilots.
